For the pass couple of weeks there has been a spam bot posting in here. You might not have seen it, because I would always remove what they did, but it looks like it was targeting the first topic "since this topic is f=1, meaning first forum", so I have changed some permissions.

Hey louis, How come you don't delete the closed forums? Some of them I can understand why you want them to be left on there, but what about the ones that have, like, 2 posts on them?

well, they are already closed, there are only 2 posts on them.
It just seems like it would be easier to look though stuff if they weren't there.

What I don't understand is why someone would want to put a spam bot on SF. What would that prove? that they can be annoying? Or is it just there way of giving out clues saying they want the boot.

no topics are ever deleted, we just move them to our "garbage bin" and there they harm no one. If I siff trough it the oldest topic was last posted to on the 30th of November 2004

Plus it means there's "evidence" for bannings and such

Thing is, Spam bots are the eastiest things to get. They are pure macros. The script for them is easy too. I mean even i have a "Spam bot". But i use it for macros.

i still dont get what macros are, but i agree that the short topic should be deleted.....

there r 3 ways
1. the person is a guest but has a name
2it does not sgow up in the sub forum but can be found in the unawnsered post, searches and using most recent post
3 it has a bunch of vidios based on the bots name

or its advertsinig something in almost ever forum...the most recent ones have been sexual...like "See me **** her!" or sumthing like that.

I think there may be another one... but I've reported the posts so hopefully the moderators'll take a look at them.

I've looked up the IPs- they have HUNDREDS! I'm guessing it's all coming from one computer which has an IP-changer or different computers. But I do come on at least once every day and sort out the spam that nobody else has got yet, so it's kind of under control between me, Annie and everyone on the team, along with people who report them lol.

i think there was one user called "humpert" who posted a link to a site with very inapropriate content, and it was in the eragon movie section of the site..........

humpert is number 2 its his 3rd guy

They are probably using dynamic IPs and Proxies. It may be harder to get to those who are.

spam bots are on all my forums, im on like 6 or 7.

Spam bots are MACROS. Its a loop. a program that pushes random letter keys identical to the original post. It loops. Creating a chain of around 100 posts in like 10 minutes. Since spam "bots" don't need to be microed by the user, they can stay on for hours if mods are not there.

thats why we need more mods!!!!!! i could be a mod! i dont see what rpm's got that i dont!!! lol.. jk. if the mods were on more often though............

our new tool is very helpfull scince us mods have acsess to the past spams we can use it to track down the spams and shut them down
also reporting is even more helpfull now just one report can eleminate many more to come

I need to say I resent this comment, Ayra. Firetongue and I have been taking care of this distasteful buisiness as fast and as best as we can. We have the advantage of being on different Time Zones, so when she's off, I'm on. AND at times we are both on. Besides that, we have had RPM, Princess Elyanna and Fronzz who have been tirelessly reporting the spams.

Now we have them as two new moderators, and one of them is home-schooled, therefore has access to the site pretty much all day on the Western Time Zone. Now with the protection Louis has added on, we can soon be going back to business; guessing what will happen in Book III!

I would also like to point out that Louis will 'promote', if you will, people as he sees fit... and it's not a matter of who's better than who... as Annie said.

Lol. What this forum is getting is Light Spam. On other forums, with less active moderators and admins, Spammers can use a macro to add up to 70 pages of posts in less than 2 hours.

well they would have to find a preety good method to go around this, because this system will just keep going has more boards install it. There's only about 70 boards that are using it and there's a nice effect already.

Also they are blocked from all the boards that use this system
