Have you even read Eldest? It says specifically in there: oromis to eragon: The elves are getting ready for war, we are marching out and will attack the northern section of the Empire soon.

yea, i think the elves will come out and fight, because, islanzadi told eragon, in eldest, that when the time came, that the elves will forsake their hiding, and come and help in the war.

they certainly will, but why is it taking them so long to prepare 4 battle. in the varden( when they were still in the beors) it only took them a few days to prepare.

yeah it would pretty much be a disaster...
oh and...
