OK everybody, the book has been released for one day and I'm sure those who got it at midnight of the 21st have read the entire thing already. So here is a little forum for people to discuss your thoughts on the book: what you thought about Dumbledore, the Horcruxes, Rita Skeeter, or anything else that was in the book. TO ALL WHO HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK, THERE WILL BE MANY SPOILERS ON THIS TOPIC. IF YOU WISH TO ENJOY THE BOOK, TURN BACK NOW!!!!

this is my favorite book ever but i would like to know why did harry take off his cloak when he fought him? when he could have killed him with it on

The ending was lackbuster. For all the characters she has made in this universe, she goes and tells us only ten or so. That wasn't that good.

SPOILER ALERT FOR ANYONE WHO IS TRESPASSING!

but, she focused on all the main characters: Neville, Draco, the three we know and love, etc. remember, a bunch of characters that we came to like, like Dobby and Mad-Eye, died in the book. so in reality, there wasn't a whole lot to wrap up concerning the main characters.

I liked Dobby and Mad-Eye they some of my favorite characters along with Lupin.

Lupin was my favorite outside the main threesome. He seemed to be so... I don't know how to explain. He was a sad character, yet he always seemed so joyful whenever Harry was around.

He was so sad before he got married and then he was sad when Tonks was pregnant but when Teddy was born he was full of joy.

oh, please don't mention Hedwig. it reminds me too much of that opening scene. it was during that scene that I almost had one of my crying fits. when Hagrid jumped off his bike and seemingly died when they managed to escape. I hated that scene! And that scene when Harry was looking at his parent's graves at Godric's Hollow, I cried like a little baby the emotion was so high in that scene. I also cried when Hagrid was seemingly eaten by his own spiders.

there has to be more coming but cause there will be a huge let down after this... anyone agree that teddy is like sirus mixed with harry? because he goes over to the potters house all the time and he has no parents.
i thought for sure that Fawkes would be come harry's bird after the last book... darn the luck, i guess i don't get to see #4 privet drive burn down.

I'm with you on that one, but speakin' of Fawkes... Since phoenixes don't die, I wonder what happened to him? That I can remember, JK didn't even mention him, aside from when she was describing Harry's broke wand. (Remember that the cores of Harry and Voldemort's wands were tail feather's from Fawkes.) I think it's kind of obvious who Draco married, Pansy Parkinson. That would have to be one ugly kid...

What happened to Harry's Firebolt? Did he drop it when they were escaping from Privet Drive? He didn't explode it like he did... you know... when the sidecar fell did he? And she killed Fred!!! George will never be the same again!! WHY????!!!!! What purpose did that serve? I mean, Percy was already accepted back into the family, so him crying over his brother's dead body ain't gonna help him that much more. *simmering glare at JK* I did like Harry's son's name. Albus Severus Potter. Bit of a mouthful though.

about one of the only laughs I had out of the book was what Draco named his kid. good lord, that is dumbest name a parent could ever come up with. Just imagine how many people are going to make fun of him at Hogwarts.

Agreed, that was another crying moment for me. I was actually thinking about writing J.K. because in my opinion, you can't kill one without killing the other. Only killing Fred or only killing George is too cruel.

That is cruel. I can't help but wonder what will George call his shop now?

he'll probably just close it down, unfortunately. the pranks are worth nothing without Fred.

If anyone should have died right there, it should have been Percy. I am seriously considering buying a plane ticket so I can go kick JK's butt! Okay, maybe nothing that harsh. I would do it so I could go ask her reasonably (while screaming at the top of my voice) why she did the things she did. I mean, taking Teddy's parents (Tonks and Lupin) away from him while he was younger than Harry was, who is that cruel????

I don't think Hurst is that bad of a name. It was the Malfoy kid that had a bad name. I mean, who would seriously name their kid Scorpio? Perhaps a novice astronomer or astrophysicist. rofl, Scorpio.

Yeah, that was funny too. I thought that it was funny not because she was a girl, but because of the manner they found out. I mean, who would think that female Norwegian Ridgebacks are MORE vicious that their male counterparts.

I thought the names were Scorpius and Hugo???

I wonder what happened to the dragon Harry and company released from Gringotts... Maybe it flew over Privet Drive and "accidentally" set fire to one of the houses? *cough#4cough*

And what about the Dursley's? What happened to them? We never heard about them again after the 2nd and 3rd chapters. And what about what Dudley saw when the dementor's attacked? We never found out what that was. I just had an idea. What if what he saw was what his father would say and do if Dudley had turned out to be a wizard?

I loved it! I couldn't belive the ending! It was my favorite one! I think she should make one about Lupin and Tonks child! That would be so awsome!!!!

The epilogue is 19 years later

so then Tonk's kid is 19...nah. a book about a 19 yr old wouldn't be as interesting. I'd rather hear about Harry as 19.

well the whole fred and George thing kinda sucks, percy shouold have been the one that got the axe. the end was kinda hoky. Dobby should not have died and what the HE## is Harry doing with his life????

Loved the book thought it was absolutly amazing!! Never cried so much in one book though!! Seriously i cried about 10 times through out it. I can't belive lupin and tonks died though but its like the sirius thing all over again when he practically lived round james parents house but its with teddy. Loved fred he was totally amazing!! The epilogue is so funny! Ron is great and love the names Harry and Ginny gave there kids!!
Im gonna re-rea the book again because i read it quite quick lol and i only got it yesterday!!

Yea i read it for nine hours straight and finished it, and im now reading it again slowly. It was awsome. I cried so much. It must be the best book in the entire series.

I don't actually understand... why was the previous "owner" of the Elder Wand is Draco Malfoy?? Why did the wand chose him over Dumbledore? Was it because Draco planned to murder him or... any other reason? I don't get it..

it was amazing, but confusing, cause i'd forgotten stuff from other books, and stuff, but still was amazing, and i'll read it after i read the first 6 again. so many people died

He was there to see his girlfriend off, it says in the epilogue.
Overall, I'm rather...ambivalent about the epilogue. At first it seems like fanfiction, with James and Lily and Rose, etc. being very common fanon names. But, I don't know...It's been pointed out that having a family and a normal life would be just what Harry wants, so showing him having that I can kind of understand. I don't care what anyone else says, I like Scorpius, and Hugo seems like exactly the sort of name Hermione would name her kid.
And also, I kind of think it would have better to focus more on the aftermaths of the war rather than years later, and leave the future to speculation; even so, I do have some fun ideas for 2nd generation.

Well, obviously the book doesn't say what Ted does for a living. Which means that unless Rowling answers that question in an interview, we're left to speculate and come to our own conclusions. As to more books, I don't think Rowling's going to write second generation. There's gotta be something for the fans to write.
I hear she's thinking about writing an 'encyclopedia' type book about Harry Potter, and after that, she may write something else in the Potter-verse or she might do something entirely different. It's difficult to say.

that would be amazing! also i hate not knowing what harry is doing with himself! i is just like he sits heome on the couch or something! i don't beleive that for a secound also where is teddy living? there is SO much that she could go into, or she could burst all of our bubbles and just sit on her millions!

i think she will tell us in the upcoming years but for now she wants us to spectulate

good. she deserves a break to enjoy the massive fortune she has attained from the series. she has basically written a children's classic and, trust me on this, that is quite an accomplishment. i actually saw on the Internet, can't remember where, that after the first book was released in 1997, international literacy levels, both in adults and children, gradually rose. so Harry Potter is responsible for inspiring readers in at least two generations. that's pretty cool.

well being a harry potter fan, i just had to love the book as well... but it wasnt exactly what i expected. the book sort of didnt match the excitement i had waiting for it. i think the ending was too abrupt. i would have liked a lengthier harry-voldie battle... not just something that would end with a disarming spell from harry and an avada from voldie. for some reason i had the feeling that the book was rushed. i still prefer the earlier books - 1-4 - they were very well written.

and the epilogue! it was so cheesy...

o btw shes writing a crime novel lol thank god for news on the wii

i never had any particular attachment to him, but he was kinda always there, lookin out for harry... that was the saddest part for me...

the saddest part was Lupin dying. he has truly been the one who has watched out for Harry despite his... handicap. Lupin was very much a father figure to Harry, probably the second best one behind Dumbledore.

no no, Lupin was. He was there longer than Sirius and Sirius wasn't exactly available to help Harry all the time. Lupin was.

yes but lupin was around harry much more than sirius... i mean sirius had to stay hidden while lupin didnt..

you're forgetting year six and seven. so Lupin was around a full two years longer than Sirius.

yea i was gunna put that in my last post as well but i didnt lol ... so i would deffinatly say lupin was more of a father to harry

i enjoyed h.p. and the deathly hollows. the only thing i would have changed about it was the very end of it. i would have liked to hear more about what the others were doing 19 years later. we know that neville went on to be the herbology teacher at hogwarts. but did he get married and if yes to who. and what about the rest of the weasley family and luna lovegood. it even would have been nice to hear what has gone on with dudley, vernon and patunia.

anyway..... has anyone read any of jean m auel's books? does anyone know when her next book in the clan of the cave bear comes out? if you know of a site that allows you to send questions to her. that would be cool. any way talk to you all later.

I can't believe fred dies!!!!! I lovwd fred he was amazing!! though when tonks and lupin died it was horrible!!! i didnt like any of them dying lol i almost cried like each time they died and i think i did on some anyways lol
I wished she did more of an extensive epilogue too because i want to know about there lives more after. The way voldemot died was funny because everyone was just silent and then all started cheering lol

ya probaly ur right, anyways im rereading it right now because it was awsome!! but i think a lot of paragraphs in the book were sorta pervertish and for suure ginny would have done more then just make out with harry if they could make the movi e a rated R movie but i think ron came in because she didnt want that to happen what are your thoughts?
