Post Coming home
OOC: all may join

IC: As Paconio returned home for the first time in months, he realized that there was something different about the huge forest. He could not quite out his finger on it, but something was different. For precaution, he put up several wards around himself, and half way drew leafblade, his green rider sword.

Post Re: Coming home
OOC: Could you please make your starting posts a little longer? Like two paragraphs?

I'll join anyway, but try to make them longer.

IC: A small, flame-colored shape suddenly appeared behind the human, having crept up from the forest. Do not move, she whispered warningly, A Ra'zac has managed to get past the wards. It is hiding twenty feet in front of you.

The tiny dragoness disappeared as swiftly as she had appeared. She had backed away quickly, getting out of sight. Once she was in the clearing she had first dropped down into, she took off into the air with a few quick flaps of her pointed wings. She shot directly up into the sky, and then plummeted back down.

In one swift movement, she landed on the Ra'zac's shoulders and tore him apart with her deadly teeth and talons. She let herself fall back to earth and landed in front of the boy. She smiled, her long fangs gleaming. You may want to be careful. A small hole has been created in Du Weldenvarden's wards, and a few dark creatures have been getting inside. I'm here tracking them down. My name is Solarae, by the way, she said in a friendly voice. Solarae was no taller than the boy in front of her, though she was several hundred years older.

Post Re: Coming home
OOC: Sorry, I suppose I need t work in that area.

Suddenly, A red dragon appeared behind him and told him of a deadly creature right ahead. It flew off as quickly as it came, and came back after it had killed the creature.

"Well Solarae," He addressed the dragon "my name is Paconio, elf of Duweldenvarden. Although I have not been home in a long time, I would like to help you on your mission" Paconio said. "I believe I can hold my own with these dark creatures" Paconio explained. He pointed to his head band of super energy packed jewels, it explained everything perfectly.

"How has there been a hole created in the wards?" Paconio inquired. "In all of my time here, I have never heard of any hole in the wards ever happening" he explained.

Paconio wondered how old Solarae was. He thought that she was probably born only a few months ago, but something about her mind gave it the appearence that she has lived for several hundred years.

Post Re: Coming home
OOC: That's alright, you'll get better with time.

IC: Solarae dismissed the question with a huff. I really don't have the slightest idea. Magic was never really my thing. I'm just here to deal with the problem, she said, grinning. She suddenly raised her flame-colored scales and turned around.

Hmm. I can smell more of 'em. Well, if you're coming, then we'd better be off, young Paconio, she said cheerfully, That's a pretty nice bandanna you got there, friend. I'd ask where you got it, but everyone in Alagaesia's so secretive that I probably shouldn't expect any different from you. Things were so much simpler in the East. Find an evil creature, kill it, get a reward, and leave to find another evil creature. Pleh, Galbatorix is so not my type of enemy.

The fiery dragoness laughed at her own words. Not that she was too dim to understand all of the intrigue and drama here, it was just that she preferred things the simple way.

"I actualy got this from my father when I was but a young elf boy" Paconio said, hand still on the jewels. Paconio had an almost unhealty devotion to the jewels on te headband. He knew he would have lost most of the fights he had won if he didn't have them.

Paconio was ready to kill some evil creature! He had never felt such a wave of determinatin wash over him. "I would love to explain more, but I sense a creature nearby that has the potential to kill us both if we are off guard" Pacoio said quietly enough for only Solarae to hear.

"May I climb on?" Paconio asked suddenly. He got the impression that Solarae had wanted him to, but he had to ask to be sure. He lightly touched the dragons scales.

OOC: lol, just so you know, Solarae's too small to be ridden. She's only about six feet tall including her neck. (She's one-fourth fanghur) :)

IC: Solarae reached out with her mind, and sensed the evil presence. In fact, she could start to smell it. Those things sure reek. I'd much rather smell their blood on my claws, Solarae said ferociously. She recognized the smell.

Aha, so the Ra'zac had its lethrblaka with it. Excellent, the small dragoness hissed. She stalked throught the undergrowth, crouching low to the ground. Paconio would probably join her, but she wanted to draw first blood.

Solarae stopped ten feet from the huge flying beast, waiting. Finally, it caught her scent and screeched, turning around angrily. Once it was turned towards Solarae she leapt out of the bushes and landed on its face. She slashed and clawed at its eyes with almost no concern for her own well-being, ripping at the foul creature's flesh determined only to kill.

Post Re: Coming home
OOC: oh, sorry, I have been failing alot this week.

Paconio saw the battle raging on, and he figured Solarae could win unscathed without his help, so he looked to find a match of his own. This was relatively easy, because there all ready was a dark creature stalking him. He whirled around to face some de formed looking thing. He did not care to know what it was, so he slashed at it wildly. He killed the thing in minutes, and figured out that it was a bear. Lucky me... Paconio thought.

Paconio heard a scream in the distance. He rushed toward where Solarae's battle was going. It did not look very good, so he took a minute to put a few wards around Solarae. After taking any other precautions, he jumped into the battle. He slashed wildly at every part of the creature visible.

OOC: That's okay. :) I wouldn't expect you to know that without reading Solarae's bio anyway.

IC: As Solarae slashed at the hideous lethrblaka, she felt Paconio attempt to place a ward around her. However, she blocked it with her mind. Sorry, Paconio, but I want to keep this fight fair, she thought, deciding not to mention that she had removed it.

After efficiently destroying the beast's face, Solarae leapt off and backed away in the air, taking a deep breath. Suddenly a gigantic blast of extremely hot, extremely poweful fire streamed out and completely engulfed the lethrblaka. It rolled over the creature for three minutes, baking its flesh, before she finally stopped. When the fire disappeared all that was left of the lethrblaka was a charred, smoking body.

I decided not to ash that thing. Gotta save my strength for later, you know, Solarae laughed. Her name was not ill-chosen. Despite her size, she had one of the most powerful flames of all dragonkind. The color of her scales also matched this fiery trait.

Well, that was fun. I have a feeling that this is going to get very repetitive very quickly unless we find out what caused the hole in the ward. I'm gonna go check it out after the next three kills or so, the orange dragoness said happily.

Paconio watched in amazement as the beast burned. Never before had he seen such large flame from such a small dragon. He started to drift off into thoughts of how glorious it would be to be a dragon. He quickly shook off the thought because of the vitality of their mission.

"I believe there is a high concentration of them over there," Paconio pointed over to the west. "Either that, or just one realy powerful one," Paconio added. Paconio put some excess strength into his headband and sword jewels. He was confident he could find another energy source.

Paconio started to head to the concentration of energy. It took him but a few minutes to get there, but he was thinking so hard about what the creature was. Was it a shade? Was it a group of shades? Oh my God, what if it's an enemy dragon? Paconio scared for his life, but he would not stop.

Post Re: Coming home
Solarae simply raced towards the place her instincts were warning her to go away from. She didn't care what the creature was. She had defeated shades, dragons, and very powerful, very strange beasts besides. She was eager to fight whatever this thing was.

When Solarae reached the clearing she saw a pair of elf-like beings, but they were much darker. They looked exactly alike, down to the daggers on their belts. She knew immediately that they were shades, and twin shades at that. Well, that's kind of odd. I bet they fight very closely together, probably use magic that way too. I'm gonna go fight 'em, the small dragoness said to her new friend, grinning toothily.

Solarae blasted fire at the shades, catching them off guard. They had enough time to block most of her fire with magic, but not before sustaining a few nasty burns. Hah! Go ahead, shades! Try your power against me! she shouted challengingly, fully absorbed in the thrills of combat now. She circled around the clearing, small enough to fit in between trees. She was trying to confuse the shades and deciding on a good point of attack.

Post Re: Coming home
Paconio watched with great intrest as Solarae combated them. He knew he had to play his part, but he was waiting for the right moment. As Paconio saw the shades become confused, he charged into battle, leafblade in hand. He managed to harm both of the shades easily, but he forgot one great detail of killing them, you had to hit them with a sword in the heart.

Paconio played every dirty trick in the swordsman book, but nothing worked. His blocking became slower than usual, his throwing of jabs was slower, everything was heavier and slower than before for Paconio. Paconio blocked a jab from one of the shades, but as he turned to fight the other, it stabed him in his side. It was a sort of diagonal stab, landing only inches from his heart. I have failed you, Solarae...

OOC: Sorry about this too, I like drama in the rps!!!

OOC: That's fine. It's Solarae who isn't into drama; I, for one, love rps with a lot of it.

IC: Solarae roared. No, Paconio, you have not! she cried, for as the Shade stabbed her friend, she leapt forward, her fiery body looking like a streak of flame. She somersaulted through the air and landed with her tail pointing towards the striking shade. Like a scorpion, she struck forward with her tail, and the leaf-shaped blade at the end sliced right through the shade's chest and out the other side. It shrieked in agony and fell, writhing, to the ground.

Solarae leaped again, this time positioning herself in front of Paconio, in between him and the remaining shade. She hissed, raising her wings and rearing up on her hind legs. The shade took a step back, a little fearful now that its companion was dead. The two faced each other, preparing for battle.

Post Re: Coming home
Paconio's mind was a blur of his entire life, infact, he was at the part where he first turned seventeen. In his mind, he knew the shade would deliver the final blow in but a few seconds. Something broke his line of memories, it was Solarae. Hearing her voice sent a wave of determination to live through his system. It was NOT his time yet.

Paconio watched in painful amazment as Solarae killed one of the shades with ease. As Solarae placed herself in between the himself and the remaining shade, he took advantage of the moment draw upon the forces of wildlife to heal his injury to the point of witch he could garuntee himself that he would not die from the injury.

Paconio jabbed at the shade's mind with a strength he didn't know he ever had. He was not about to stop, though. He was going to distract Mr(S).Shade long enough for Solarae to kill the shade. He planned on drawing more strength out of the wildlife after this battle was over, he would need it to go on.

Post Re: Coming home
Solarae watched as the shade suddenly stumbled back, holding its head. She knew that Paconio had not given up, and was trying to help. That'll work, she thought with satisfaction. She leapt forward and kicked the shade backwards, raking its chest with her claws. It deflected most of the attack with magic, but Solarae could tell that it was heavily distracted. It tried to cast another spell, but faltered, shouting.

Solarae blasted it with fire, and her fire paired with Paconio's mental attack distracted it enough. She ran right through her own still-remaining blaze and jumped up again. This time, she flipped over backwards and kicked the shade so that it fell over. She landed near it and somersaulted to its side. Before it got up, she slashed her tail down and killed it with her tail-blade.

The small orange dragoness turned around and ran immediately to Paconio's side. Here, take a little of my energy, she said, providing him with a flood of it. It left her feeling a little more worn-out, but she didn't mind. She knew she'd recover quickly. Bravery is an honorable thing, my friend, but perhaps a little less of it could do you some good, she joked with a laugh, waiting for Paconio to recover.

Paconio's plan was successful! He paired with Solarae defeated the shade easily. With the shade dead, he felt energy flow into him. The energy flowing into him made him feel better than ever! Thank you Solarae. This is more energy than I had to start! he thanked her greatfully.

What Paconio did after that was a little unexpected. He immediatly jumped up, and ran into the forest. After what seemed about twenty minutes, he came running back. He had in his arms a large book. "This is the book were I write all of my spells down," He explained. "The healing spell I used I had never tried before, and I need to write it down." He knew it was not the right time and place, but he might have forgotten in the future. When he was done, he handed it to a wild deer and instructed it in the anceient language to bring it back to his house. The deer scurried off after he was done.

"Now, where we?" Paconio asked. He knew he would have to contact the queen of elves soon, but he wanted to see wht Solarae would like to do first. Paconio eagerly awaited for reply.

Solarae waited patiently for Paconio to come back. Interesting, she said, eyeing the book. Paconio seemed quite creative with spells. She raised her eye-ridges when the deer obediently carried away the heavy tome. She sighed longingly, thinking of delicious food, but shook her head. There was business to attend to first!

Well, my young friend, I think we should alert the elves to this break in their wards. They will probably know best how to repair it, Solarae said, Once it's repaired we can probably hunt down the last of the evil creatures that made it through.

"That is probably what we should do." Paconio agreed. "I will contact them right now." Paconio uttered a spell of scrying that would allow him to speak with one of the elf consul. It took him a few times to do it because he usualy didn't use the spell.

He finaly got it to work about five minutes after he planned. He never was very skilled at skrying people. The water in the basin he prepared grew dark, and then what seemed like a court room came into view. Paconio waited to see who would answer.

Solarae watched as Paconio started up a scrying spell. While he worked, she busied herself by standing guard. She walked over to the edge of the clearing, scenting the forest beyond. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, at least for now. She turned and began to pace around the border, stopping occasionally to sniff the dark reaches of the trees.

Solarae noticed that Paconio seemed to have the spell working, so she walked back to the center of the clearing and crouched by the side of the basin. She watched as the water grew dark, and the elf's court came into view. An elf came into their field of vision.

Paconio watchd as an elf came into view of the scrying pool. After doing the traditional elven greeting, Paconio got down to buisness. "There appears to be a hole in the wards of the forest, my friend. Solarae," He pointed to the dragon, "and I have been killing the evil creatures that have been getting in, but we can not do this forever. The wards need fixed as soon as possible." He said.

OOC: Who should cotrol the elf that Paconio is speaking to?
OOC: terribly short post, sorry.

OOC: I'll control him now, and you can finish our conversation with him in your next post.

IC: Solarae inclined her head in greeting when Paconio motioned to her. He listened to them with apparent interest and concern. "I am astounded that this could have gone unnoticed for so long. You have our gratitude for dealing with the evil beings that took advantage of our weakness, Paconio and Solarae. I would ask one more thing of you both. Can you locate the break in our wards while you're out there? Once you do, we can send our soldiers to repair it," he said.

Sure we'll do that, Solarae replied for both her and Paconio, And if you don't mind, I, and probably Paconio too, would like to stay after the ward's repair and track down the rest of the intruders. The elf nodded. "Certainly," he said, "I shall alert Queen Islanzadi. Is there anything else?"

Paconio quickly ended the spell and began looking for the hole.

Solarae gave the basin a quick sniff before departing. She could still scent the magic on it. She began trotting away in the direction of the wards, intent upon getting to the edge of the forest. Too bad I'm not bigger, or I could carry us both to the wards in a few seconds. Oh well, walking's nice too, and maybe we'll come across some more enemies while we're out here, she said, grinning fiercely at the thought of another fight. She looked around, and realized that the trees had begun to thin. We'll be there in no time. Once we're there, we can probably follow the trails of the evil creatures to the hole itself, Paconio, she suggested.

"That is probably a good idea," Paconio replied to the suggestion. "Anything to get them dead more quickly," he added. As they walked, he wondered about many things, like how big the hole in the wards was, and how many creatures were already inside.

To pass the time, Paconio talked about how he had made himself good friends with the animals of the forest. He also explained why animals would do things for him. "It has to be animals I have met and have taken care of for a number of hours, days, weeks, or months." He explained.

Solarae laughed lightly. Is there anything that sets them apart from other animals? 'Cause I would try not to eat them if that's the case, she said with a toothy dragon grin. She suddenly caught a familiar scent. Ah, urgals. They'll provide the perfect, extra-smelly trail to follow, she said with satisfaction.

Solarae began to follow the scent of urgal towards the wards. It gradually grew stronger where other urgals were still walking together. The had probably split up. Not long now, and we'll have that hole in our sights, she said fiercely.

"Yes, something does separate these animals from the rest. It is that they have yellow tag on some part of their body," Paconio replied happily. He continued to go on about the animals untill Solarae said something that caught him off guard.

"Urgals?" He said with a worried expression. "Do you know about how many?" He knew he would not have to face them for now, and that he could take them on, but he was worried they might find his second most prized possesion.

As they continued on toward the wards, he could tell they were getting close. Even he could now smell te urgals and see their tracks.

Post Re: Coming home
Well, there were about seven or eight earlier, but by now they've all split up into ones and twos. Should be a piece of cake to finish them off. Heh, I'm glad we found their trail and not one of something bigger. I wouldn't want to deal with something like that just yet, not when we have a mission to complete first, Solarae said, her voice unusually cheerful.

Ah, look. The trees are getting really thin. The ward, and the hole, are getting much closer. We'll soon find out where our little friends keep getting in, she remarked. She soon began to scent many, many other dark creatures as well. Evil monsters, Ra'zac, lethrblaka, and some unrecognizable things as well as the urgals. More and more tracks began appearing. It was obvious how close they were. Alright, stealth mode, Solarae hissed happily, sinking into the fern-covered undergrowth and disappearing entirely from view. It appeared as if she had suddenly vanished, though she was letting Paconio know where she was with her mind.

Paconio watched as Solarae disappeared from view. He followed where she was going by running. He managed to keep up with her at a steady pace being a little bit behind.

Paconio managed to notice that there were many strange beings that traveled this path. He just then realized how important their mission was. He was definatly going to have to ask the elf he talked with to send in many more elves than he planned. Not even his own kind could take on these beasts without a large number of force.

Paconio wondered exactly what opened the hole in the first place. He figured it was probably more than one creature. He figured it was probably the conbined force of the twin shades they had fought earlier, and some other large and powerful creature he had never met.

Post Re: Coming home
Uh oh! Paconio, stop! Solarae cried into her companion's mind. Sneak quietly up to those trees, and you'll be able to see a group of four Kull in that clearing, sort of standing around talking, she warned. She went to the edge of the clearing herself, surveying the situation.

Heh heh. Alright, Paconio. It's time to show you what "stealth mode" can do. Just stay there a moment, I'll be right back, she said, grinning evilly. She knew that if Paconio were to try to fight, the kull would raise the alarm, but if she moved in in "stealth mode," she would be able to keep their mission covert.

Solarae soon disappeared even from Paconio's mind. She was unnervingly stealthy. As she slinked into the clearing, she hummed a little tune to herself. She was soon directly beneath one of the kull. She laughed again.

An outsider would have seen the kull suddenly disappear into the long grass, throwing up its arms and vanishing without a sound. The other kull didn't notice, for that one had been a guard. Suddenly, one of the remaining three gave a small shout of surprise and fell into the grass. The last two's eyes widened in surprise, and they held their weapons high, prepared to strike. One of them toppled over backwards with no warning, and his companion jumped away in shock. The grass began to rustle in front of the remaining kull. His eyes widened even more and he began backing up slowly. The rustling moved closer, and he scrambled backwards, throwing everything he possessed at the grass. When he had nothing else he turned clumsily and began running away comicly. All of a sudden, a tiny orange dragoness sprang out of the grass and landed on the kull's shoulders, clamping her jaws around his throat and stabbing his back with her tail blade at the same time.

Solarae reappeared by Paconio's side, laughing hysterically. I love long grass! It's so awesome to fight in! she cried, still laughing.

Paconio lughed at how easily the kull were taken down. "That is some good 'stealth mode' you got there" He said to Solarae. "If I could do that," He laughed "I would sneak up on everybody!"

"Now that we've bumped into kull, the hole can't be very far away!" He said with pleasure. They walked for a little while, only stopping if they thought they saw something.

They came to the hole after about five minutes. There were two things that made it obvious. One was that there was just a giant gaping hole out of no where and it looked as if it was breathing. Another thing was that there was a small urgal attempting to climb through it. When the urgal saw him, it ran towards him, about to slice Paconio. It was about to sound alarm t the other urgals in Duweldenvarden, when Paconio but leafblade to it's throat and said quietly "Get out of Duweldenvarden before I have to kill you..." The urgal ran to the other side of the hole before Paconio was completely done with his sentence.

Solarae shook her head in disappointment. Hmph. Coward, she said, only wishing that she had gotten the chance to fight the urgal. She examined the strange, throbbing hole. She had not expected it to be visible, but here it was in front of her. Something very strange was going on.

Alright, I s'pose it's time to contact the elves and tell 'em where the hole is, she remarked, sniffing the ground on their side of the tear. She could smell all of the evil creatures that had gotten through. Blech, disgusting, she said to herself, pulling her head sharply away.

Paconio had started te scrying spell before Solarae finished talking. The pool turned dark, and the familiar court room and elf appeared. "We have found the hole" Paconio said. He spent a few minutes giving the elf directons. After he was finished with that, he told the elf, "We probably are going to need more reinforcements than you thought, I have a feeling that a lot more than a few urgals have gotten into our haven"

Solarae watched with interest as Paconio conjured the scrying window once again. She suddenly caught a disgusting scent; one that could only mean one thing.

She ran over to the hole and looked through the trees to the plains beyond. A huge army of urgals and kull was approaching from them. Umm... You might wanna tell them to hurry up and get here.... We've got company, Solarae said, watching the army draw nearer.

"Send reinforcements as fast as possible!" Paconio yelled into the basin. "We have a large army of kull on our trail! We can't hold them off very long, but we shall delay their arrivial to the hole as much as possible." Paconio said. Paconio ended the scrying spell as quickly as he had started it.

Paconio ran over to the hole to get a view of their company. It was a massive group, and he knew that if the elves didn't arrive in time he, and probably Solarae too, would be killed.

Fear welling up inside of him, Paconio killed most of the front line of urgals with magic. The urgals and kull behind them shrieked and stopped for a few moments to see if their friends were still alive. When they learned that they were dead, they continued marching.

Solarae walked outside of the hole, knowing that she was exposing herself to the urgal's weapons and magic. She stood absolutely still, concentrating. I'll destroy as many of them as I can, Paconio. Keep them from getting inside that hole at all costs, she said, for once with a serious tone.

The air around her body suddenly began to heat up dramatically. Her scales began glowing with the heat, and would have burned anything that touched her. Embers and sparks leapt out of her mouth with every breath. Finally, after her entire body was glowing white-hot, the air around her burst into flame, and Solarae looked like she was on fire.

With her transformation complete, Solarae leapt into the air and began to attack the urgal and kull forces ruthlessly, blasting huge torrents of superheated flame and using her body to burn them just by passing them at close range. These armies will fall in fire and blood, she thought ferociously.

Now I know I shouldn't mess with her Paconio thought silently, He was amazed at her transformation. She looked as if her entire body were on fire!

Remembering Solarae's words, Paconio constructed a wooden circle about the size of the hole on it's larger fase. He stuck it inside the hole, and it stayed. He knew it would not hold off an entire urgal army, but he figured it would buy the elves some time.

Suddenly, Paconio remembered the dark creatures still inside the forest. They were all gathered around him, teeth bared and swords drawn. They were not as large as the urgal army, being about 20 to 30 of them, but they were all extremely well trained magic users. He could tell this because they all recoiled from his probing of their minds.

Paconio knew he would not win this battle without his second to last resort. He called all of his animal friends with his mind. All most instantly, animals with yellow tags flooded in from every direction. There was some things about these animals he had yet to tell Solarae.

Solarae knew there was nothing she could do to help her new friend in his battle, for she could smell the enemies nearing him, but she could keep this army from getting to the ward.

Solarae flashed around the battlefield like a meteor. At the moment, all weapons that tried to touch her burned or melted away before even getting close. Urgals and kull burned to death, their skin charred away. Solarae knew she was causing immense pain, but it was the most effective way to deal with this army.

The flaming dragoness leapt into the air directly at the leader of the kull. As she landed on him, she set his body on fire. Even the strongest magic users among them could not get rid of her flame, and it was so powerful that it was burning through their wards. Little by little, Solarae razed the army to the ground.

Pacnio's animal forces then flashed their greatest weapons at their enemy. All of them had some type of metalic weapon, such as battle claws. Some of the animals could even use magic!

The forces fighting aginst them were shocked. Never before had they seen an entire fighting force comprised of animals, and never before had they ever heard of magic using animals!

As Paconio's animals prepared to engage into battle, he took a peek at Solarae's progress. She was doing good so far. Paconio went back to the animals. They were waiting for him to give them the signal to go. He comprised a spell that would wrap his body in a wooden battle suit. This proved to distract the enemy for a second, so he gave the signal. He and his animal forces charged into battle. And now I just have to hope... He thought.

Post Re: Coming home
She knew her greatest weapon was finally wearing off when an arrow actually managed to hit her scales lightly before being burned away. Okay, this is it. My last big show, she thought, knowing that soon she would lose her firepower, and even more crucial, a huge amount of energy that had been required to make the fire last this long.

Solarae raced around the battlefield as fast as she could, burning urgals and kull left and right. By now, she was only going for the most powerful of them; the spellcasters and army leaders. One by one they fell, but little by little her fire was cooling.

Finally, her scales were only glowing white-hot again. Though she still burned what she touched directly, things could hit her now. She had to be careful to watch for arrows and spears headed her way. She twisted into the air to the right to avoid one deadly spear, and as she landed, the last of her heat wore off. She could feel the energy begin to drain. Solarae knew that she had to keep going though. She dodged around legs, tackled her enemy, and darted around weapons with the movements of a snake.

It wouldn't last much longer, though. She could feel her energy fading. She knew she didn't have much longer before she wouldn't be able to hold off the army anymore.

OOC: Don't bring the elves in quite yet, Ben. I'm planning something... :)

OOC: Lol, ok.

Paconio and his animals where in the middle of battle. Animals were dieing like flies, and they had only managed to kill 5 spellcasters. Things did not look good for Paconio and his animals, so Paconio ordered them to retreat. I'm sure I can handle them myself now that they're weak. He thought.

He charged after them and sliced in every direction, killing 2 and injuring about half of the group. I can do this! He thought. He kept slashing in every direction. Nothing was about to stop him, atleast he thought.

He looked for Solarae, but she was no where in the sky. The urgals got her!!!!! Paconio thought. He was going to destroy them all. Every last one. Anger welling up, he took all of the energy from one of the jewels on his headband. He looked about four feet taller. Using the energy, he sliced faster than ever before at the enemy. They were too slow to react, so they all fell to the ground in suprise with their new mortal wounds. Te wounds that would kill them...

He was determined to atleast look for Solarae even though chances were she was dead. He burst through the hole and screamed to the army with his voice and mind "Which one of you can defeat me? You foul beasts, you messed with my friends, and for that you will die!!!!!" With that, he ran at them.

Post Re: Coming home
The small, fiery dragoness killed another kull with a slash of her tailblade, and jumped into the sky. She flew higher up than the urgals could aim accurately for, and surveyed their army. The sight made her nervous. Despite the huge numbers she had destroyed, another blackened mass of urgals and kull were waiting farther out on the plains, awaiting the chance to strike.

There are so many... she thought. She began to get scared, not because she was afraid to fight the mass of monstrous warriors, but because she knew that she didn't have enough energy to kill them all before they got into the ward's tear.

Solarae turned and saw Paconio rushing onto the battlefield. She could see urgals and kull already starting towards the gateway he had left open. Paconio! Get back near the hole and guard it until the elves get here! I can hold out until then, don't worry! she cried, hoping he would listen. If this army broke through, it would sweep through a great deal of Du Weldenvarden, burning and killing, before the elves finally stopped it.

Solarae dove several feet, hovering directly above the army. She took a deep breath, filling her lungs to the absolute limit. She didn't really need the air to breathe fire, but she did need it to breathe flames for a long time. The small dragoness felt her scales begin to burn again, sending sparks cascading from her body and onto the warriors below. Her sky blue eyes seemed to burn with the fire inside of her, and she finally let it out in a massive blast of flame.

The orange and white-hot fire leapt out of her small jaws and bathed the entire section of the army. Urgals and kull screamed in pain. The secondary army, and the much larger one, on the plains beyond started to ease towards the battlefield, hoping to help. It was too late for this part of the army, though. When Solarae ceased her fire, five minutes later, there was nothing left but a few smoldering, unrecognizable remains.

The small dragoness had spent the last of her energy on the fire, and slowly floated to earth. She staggered a few steps forward before collapsing onto the burnt ground. The last thing she saw was a shade, one of the army's commanders, appear before her.

OOC: Just so you know, the shade captured Solarae and teleported away. And there is still the larger part of the urgal army to deal with, mwahaha!

OOC: Wow lol, you realy know how to make an rp realy interesting

Paconio heard Solarae's words. She was alive! This made his thoughts much clearer. He quickly went back to the hole, he didn't even need to worry about urgals getting there first, because he was so much faster with all the excess energy and extra hieght obtained from it.

He made it back to the hole in time to see a giant torrent of fire descend upon the army. It was a magnificent display, but Paconio knew that would be the last time he would see a sign of Solarae for a long while. He saw her descend upon the ground right in front of a strange figure. A shade! he cursed. He hated shades with every ounce of his being. It was shades that killed his mother. It was shades that almost killed him multiple times. And now it was shades that captured his friend.

A rustling noise from inside the hole made Paconio turn his head. The elves had arrived! "You are Paconio I assume?" The elf spoke. He looked suprised at Paconio's transformation since he last scryed him. Having huge muscles, teary eyes, and being 10 feet tall sure did make him seem frieghtening.

"Yes, I am" Paconio replied in a voice that seemed very alien to him. "We, well Solarae, has taken care of most of the army, but there is still a huge bulk out there" He said.

"Where is Solarae at anyway?" The elf asked. "I would like to see this hero of ours so I may prepare a feast for her when we succeed." His questioning eyes demanded an answer, so Paconio gave it too him.

"There was a shade out there, and it got her. I don't think she is dead though," he said. "I WILL, no matter what the costs, go and find her after we destroy those beasts. I may have only known her for like an hour, but she is my friend." He pointed to the urgals.

"Then make formation soldiers!!!" He shouted to the large elven force behind him. Suddenly, many elves charged out of the hole and made formation. Each and every one of them stared at Paconio as if he were an alien.

It took Paconio several minutes of humiliation to realize what they were doing. They want me to give the order He realized. Paconio shouted "Charge!" and began to run at the urgals with his own kind supporting him.

Post Re: Coming home
OOC: lol I try. :D

IC: Solarae opened her blue eyes tentatively, knowing immediately that she was a captive, and hating it. More than almost anything else, she hated being controlled by someone else, most of all as a prisoner. Once, long ago, she had been the captive of the most terrifying thing she had ever seen, but had escaped. Never before that time, and never since, had she run from a fight, and she certainly wouldn't start now.

The fiery dragoness stood shakily on her small limbs, still weak from the energy she had expended. She looked around, but could not see. A small, bright stream of flame fixed that. The cave lit up, and Solarae realized with disappointment that it was completely sealed off. The only way in or out was teleportation. She hissed in fury, causing her fire to go out.

Solarae lit it again and looked for something to burn for a little light. If she even had the slightest amount, she would be able to see fine, but when there was absolutely none she was as blind as anyone else. She finally spotted some cave moss and lit it gently with fire. She had to be careful, or it would all burn up. She let the fire from her jaws cease, and began to explore the small cave for a way out.

Solarae found something that looked like it had once been a tunnel, but was now obviously closed up with solid stone. It looked as if it had been melted and poured down into a mold so that it would harden to perfectly fill the cracks. She realized that if she could not get out in a few hours, she would run out of air. Solarae began to search for weaknesses in the stone, worried.

Post Re: Coming home
Battle against the army was a blur. When ever one urgal died, another took it's place. Paconio was not about to stop. It was not just the jewel's energy that was giving him this determination. It was also rage. Paconio felt strange during the battle. He felt rage and joy all at the same time. Paconio never realy participated in battles, so this was a new feeling for him. While he was working, to alieviate his sorrow over his new friends that was captured, he sang a poem.

"Another mission,
The powers have called me away. Another time, To carry the colors again. My motivation, An oath I've sworn to defend. To win the honor, Of coming back home again. No explanation, Will matter after we begin. Another dark destroyer that's buried within, My true vocation. And now my unfortunate friend, You will discover, A war you're unable to win.

I'll have you know,
That I've become...
Indestructible. Determination that is incorruptible. From the other side. A terror to behold. Annihilation will be unavoidable. Every broken enemy will know, That their opponent had to be invincible. Take a last look around while you're alive, I'm an indestructible master of war."

He sang it with all of his heart. He noticed that it realy showed a different side of him. He decided that if he and Solarae got out of their messes, he would recite the poem for her.

Post Re: Coming home
The small dragoness had exhausted every option. She had sniffed, closely scrutinized, felt, and listened at every section of the walls. She had even tasted it for anything of interest. But there was still nothing; no way out. She felt the rage build inside her, and she was struggling to control it. She knew that that was what the shade wanted. He wanted her to snap; lose control, and therefore exhaust herself.

Once she was even more fatigued than she already was, beyond the strength to fight, the shade could do many unpleasant things. He could torture her, kill her, or possibly even try to manipulate her into serving him. Solarae was cleverer than the shade could expect. She knew, though, that she had already learned this lesson the hard way. She had snapped, in that prison a long time ago, and it had cost her.

Now, she simply sat and waited. She was far from a patient personality, but she knew that she had to wait. She allowed the anger and fury to build up inside of her, but she kept a cap on it. She had to wait for the right time to let it out.

Finally, she heard a voice. Well, Solarae. You're more patient than I'd expected. Perhaps I've underestimated you, the foreboding voice said, obviously that of the shades. Why don't you come here and say that to my face?! Solarae taunted angrily.

You and I both know that if I do, you will attack, and we can't have that now can we? I am more content to let you sit in your prison until you come to your senses and realize that my cause is the true one, the shade said. Solarae knew that he would try to suffocate her to get her to join him. You really think I'm that stupid?! If you're not going to let me out without making a deal with you, then fine. I'll just go lay over there until the oxygen runs out, she stated coolly. She could almost feel the shade's frustration. Do so at the cost of your life, fanghur-blooded worm! he shouted, and his presence disappeared. Solarae was left to wait in darkness.

Post Re: Coming home
Paconio and company were just finishing killing the last of the urgals and kull about five hours later. It was a long and bloody battle, and many elves were lost. Paconio's strength barely diminished! I think I may have taken out a tad bit too much energy he thought.

"I know this was a long battle, but you and your men need to pratol the forest untill I come back" Paconio said to the comander. The comander nodded and walked off, obviously consumed in his own thoughts.

Paconio set off for Solarae at a fast jog, but then as anexiety set in, he began to run very fast. He didn't care for his own safety anymore, just for his friend's well being.

Paconio was just about to start running as fast as he could, but he came upon a stone building. It was a very large building, big enough to hold a large dragon. He was about to walk up to the building when an invisible force restrained him...

Post Re: Coming home
Solarae's breaths came in ragged pants. The air was quickly running thin; it had been several hours since the shade had contacted her. She had been forced to give up scouring the walls for a weakness. The smoke from the fires she breathed to give her light was hanging in a thin cloud at the top of the room. Too much fire would lessen her oxygen even more.

The orange dragon gave a low growl. She knew exactly what the shade was going to do. He was going to wait until she collapsed, unconscious, from lack of air, and then he was probably going to take her somewhere else to be tortured or something like that. Solarae had decided to beat him at his own game.

About half an hour ago, she had started to make it look like she was really running out of oxygen. She had begun breathing much harder and more raspingly than she needed. She was making herself lightheaded from the effort, but it was worth it. She staggered around a little, coughing and gasping, pretending there was not enough air left, and then collapsed to the floor. She had to make this convincing though. She held her breath, waiting to pass out. Though she would be unconscious, she would have gotten enough air to wake up at full strength later.

Solarae's vision got fuzzy and dark-edged. She felt her world slip from her grasp, and finally disappear altogether.

Post Re: Coming home
Paconio gasped in surprise as his legs stopped moving. "Well well well, what do we have here?" A clear voice sounded. Out from a shadow walked a shade. Paconio knew it was the same shade that had captured Solarae, because it looked the same. Paconio glared at the shade, and with some effort, over powered it's spell and began slowly toward the shade. "I must have underestimated you, elf," The shade said with a laugh. "But I will not let that happen again..."

The shade put more power into his spell and froze Paconio in place once more. Paconio snarled and attempted to break his spell again, but it did no good. The shade then forced him into the stone building.

"Have him put in a high security area, I don't want him breaking anything," The shade said to the guard. A group of guards then took him to his cell. They had to go through a multitude of tunnels to reach it. After what seemed like hours to Paconio, they reached his cell and shoved him in. "You behave in here," one of them said. And they door closed with a soft 'clunk'.

Post Re: Coming home
The shade teleported into the cavern as soon as Solarae was unconscious. He laughed, having succeeded in capturing both of the threats. Now his plan would be carried out without their interference.

The shade used a spell to pick up the fiery dragon's body, and he transported it and himself into a dark cell. The bars and walls were completely heat-resistant. In the middle of the cell was a cold metal table. Solarae was strapped onto the table with magically heat-resistant leather straps, and left to wait. The shade teleported away.

Solarae awoke with a start, coughing a little. Great. How's this gonna work? she wondered, and began struggling against the straps. They were too tough for even her to break, and the heat she radiated off her scales did nothing. Luckily, the hours of rest had brought her back to full strength, so when the time came she would be able to fight.

Paconio's strength had not warn off, but it did the opposite. Rage built up inside of him and made his energy increase. He knew he would be ready for the guards when they came to give him his so called 'lunch'.

Paconio searched every part of the area for another escape route, but gave up when he blindly hit his head against the wall. He lied there on the floor for the longest of times, thinking...

"Given up have we?" He heard a sinister voice say as it passed by. The door was completely stone except for a slot at the top to look inside. "No I have not given up!" Paconio yelled back. "I will get out of here no matter what!" and then everything went black as a guard came in and knocked him unconscious.

Post Re: Coming home
"How's our other prisoner?" came a questioning voice from behind the cell walls. "I have just visited him. So far everything is going according to plan," the shade answered with confidence. He then opened the door to Solarae's cell and stepped inside.

"Alright, little dragon. First I will deal with you. Once you are finished, it'll be a very simple matter to deal with your friend," he said. Friend? Oh no... the other prisoner must be Paconio! she thought anxiously. The heat began to pour out of her scales, filling the air with an acrid scent as it caught fire. Her anger was overflowing. It was one thing to capture her and expect to get away with it, but quite another to try to capture her friends!

Solarae hissed, long and low, warning the shade. He drew closer anyway. "What an interesting affinity you have to flame, Solarae. One of the oldest ancestors of dragonkind shares this gift, and passed it down to a select few of her descendents, you know. You are one of those lucky few," he said. Was there a point to all that, or what? Solarae replied haughtily.

"Yes. It means you are special. You have the same powers of fire as one of the mothers of the dragon race had. She lived when your kind was splitting off from Fanghurs. Though that's another strange thing. Your grandparents re-bridged that gap, and the result is you," the shade continued, "You have the wild spirit, and size, of a Fanghur, but the abilities, intelligence, and appearance of a dragon. And, you have something more to go along with that. I merely find it interesting."

So, what, you're gonna study me or something? Well, I've gotta tell you, I really don't have time for that right now. Very busy schedule, you see. So if we could just cut to the chase, then I think it'll work out better for everyone, Solarae said with an arrogant smile. Her long canines gleamed in the light produced by her own fiery scales.

"It is a shame you are so insolent, Solarae. Maybe we can work some better behaviour into you with time, but for now your fanghur blood pervades your attitude towards others. That is most unfortunate, for it means either you will submit to my wishes, or I will kill your friend, and then you, myself," the shade said calmly. Solarae growled in response. The air flared up around her in a pyre of flame, licking the ceiling of the cell it was so high. It died down again almost immediately, but the heat still shimmered around her.

"Ah, touched a nerve I see. Well, perhaps if I allow you to watch what I'm going to do to your friend, you will decide to forget your insolence," the shade said, and stepped from the room. One of the walls of the cell suddenly became transparent, and Solarae could see the cell in which they were keeping Paconio. She called his name, but realized it was futile. The window was only one way; Paconio wouldn't see her, or hear her because of the magic-proofing. She hissed in frustration and rage as the shade walked into her friend's cell.

OOC: Yea, lol...

Paconio awoke in a different cell then the one he was in last. That would normally be a 'woah how much mead did I drink last night?' moment, but he knew where he had been, and he knew why he was here. He was being held prisoner in a prison unsure if his dragon friend he came to rescue is still in. He knew the order of operations, he gets an offer to join them, he declines, he dies. He had heard this same pattern in many of the story he was told as an elven child, but he never believed he would become one of them!

Paconio looked as if he were asleep, but he was actually preparing for the hardest fight of his life. They had taken his sword, but he figured he wouldn't need it. Paconio's goal was no longer to get out alive, but there was a new force driving him. His new goal was just to do as much damage as possible before they killed him.

"Don't think you are fooling me, elf," said a voice. Paconio opened his eyes a crack, and their stood a very tall and muscular human. "It is my pleasure to be you executioner today," he said with a smile.

"Well then, human," Paconio retorted. "Lets get it over with before I barf all over your ugly, scum filled face!" Paconio was NOT about to show him his elven kindness.

At this the human seemed disgusted. "For that I will make sure your death is much more painful than planned..." the human shot back. This was not about to stop Paconio though. He was going to agitate this human to the point of attacking. He was taking advantage of this time to slowly pick the lock on his cuffs.

"How about you come say that to my face, fatty" Paconio insulted. The humans face grew red hot as he approached Paconio...

Post Re: Coming home
Solarae hissed and struggled violently as a muscular man walked up to Paconio, obviously intent upon causing him as much pain as possible and then killing him. She was desperate to escape, to fight! However, her mind was in turmoil. Should she really allow Paconio to die just to stay out of this shade's clutches? She growled in frustration and pulled the straps until they were cutting off her circulation. The air around her was burning and shimmering in the intense heat just created by her anger.

Solarae decided to try something else. She needed to outsmart this shade, or outmatch him. There was always the old trick of pretending to be compliant, and then turning around on her captor, but that was too obvious. She could take the noble, yet brainless way out and simply allow Paconio and herself to be killed. She wanted to find a middle ground, however.

The fiery dragoness suddenly relaxed in her straps. She examined the attachment points. There is no cage that can hold me in! she thought. She began to gnaw at the bases of the straps, stretching them and burning them at the same time. A guard, realizing what she was trying to do, stepped into the room and shocked her with some sort of magical device. He reached down with his hand to tighten the straps by Solarae's face. She grinned evilly. All of that had been a distraction while she worked her flexible tail free of the straps.

She raised her tail and quickly slashed the man's hand off with the tail-blade once it was holding onto the strap. At the same time she reached out with her jaws to snatch the hand and cut open the guard's throat with her tail-blade. He fell to the ground, dead, but his fingers were still holding open the crucial loosening/tightening instruments. Solarae managed to snake one claw over to grab the hand. She used it to pry up the metal shaft holding the straps tight. The shaft was magical, and could only be operated by one of the shade's guards, or his hand.

The straps loosened only a little, but it was plenty. Solarae leapt from the metal table in a flash of fire and prepared to begin her rampage.

As the executioner got into Paconio's face, Paconio lept out of his already unlocked cuffs, and punched and kicked at the human. The human managed to pull out a knife, but it was no use. Paconio pulled the knife from the human's hands and shoved it into the human's heart. The dead body slumped to the bottom of the floor silently.

Paconio rooted around for some keys in the human's clothing. When he found it, he took the human's clothes and wore them him self. He then started strolling down the hall looking for Solarae's room. He found it very easily, due to it being right next to his.

"Solarae you're alive!" Paconio said loud enough for her to hear. Paconio was both excited and scared, because Solarae looked as if she was on the brink of using magic.

Solarae raised her scales, flared her wings, and growled low as she heard footsteps in the hall. The door to her cell swung open and... revealed Paconio! She immediately relaxed and bounded cheerfully up to him. Paconio! I was so busy escaping that I must not have noticed you escaping! she cried happily. She motioned with her head to the metal table with the dead man, minus one hand, and the one-way window into Paconio's cell. Solarae laughed when she saw the man in his cell lying in almost the same spot on the floor. Nice, simultaneous escapes, she said with a grin.

Alright, my friend, now that we've relocated each other, we can get out of here! she said, and trotted out of the cell and into the hallway. Already magical alarms were sounding and she could hear the footsteps of approaching guards.

As Paconio heard the people running toward them, he quickly began to place himself in his hand-to-hand combat position. He placed his left foot in front of him and his right behind him. He then place one flat hand in front of himself.

Paconio waited for the guards to reach him, and then he attacked. He started to sing the same poem as he did when he fought the kull as he shoved his hand under one person's chin and his knee into another person's chest. Paconio then stole one of their swords and started using it to battle them.

Battle after that seemed like a blur for Paconio. The clang of metal against metal filled the air every half-second, and every minute a roar or scared shriek rang out.

Solarae leaped completely over the heads of the group of guards that attacked them and twisted around in midair. She landed behind the guards, facing them, and began attacking them from the back while Paconio took the front. She leaped and slashed with her claws, all the time constantly flipping and somersaulting and turning to slice into someone with her tailblade. The mixture of fear and anger in the eyes of her enemies, and their blood spattering over her scales fueled her will to fight.

Solarae was spurred on with even more energy when she saw Paconio through the mass of guards. That meant that the group was thinning, and soon they would have this one taken care of. Suddenly she heard an enraged roar of anger and turned to see the shade racing towards them with another group of guards on his heels. Watch your back, Paconio, the shade's coming. And he looks a lot tougher than the ones we took out before, she said, hissing at the approaching shade and preparing to dodge out of the way of a spell.

"Oh animal droppings!" Paconio said as Solarae informed him of the approaching shade and more guards. Paconio stopped worrying about the guards trying to kill him and faced the shade. "Solarae, you take care of these guys," He said, motioning to the guards she was already fighting. "I will take care of the shade"

"You could never hope to put a scratch on me, elf," said the shade's sinister voice. "I will assure you that you will never see the light of day again when I'm finished with you," the shade added.

Paconio could not reply to the shade. He actually believed he wouldn't get out of this scrap alive, but he knew it would be worth it. He then put the stolen sword on his belt. "Come on, shade. You and me, 1 on 1, no magic, no swords. How about it? Or are you too scared?"

Post Re: Coming home
Solarae tackled one of the guards that was behind her and then gaped at Paconio. She had never viewed hominids, even elves, as especially strong, or able to withstand powerful physical attacks. Fighting with hand-to-hand combat for such a delicate creature seemed unwise. Paconio, you can't- ah!- trust this shade not to use magic! she shouted, crying out in surprise as a guard tripped clumsily over her. She turned to finish him off and then ran in a wide circle around the shade and Paconio.

She decided not to question her friend for now. The sooner she finished these guards, the sooner she could help him against the shade. She decided to protect him as he fought the shade so that none of the normal humans could attack. She slashed and sliced, raking her claws and tailblade across thin armor and soft human flesh.

This is madness! Ugh! I have to destroy these humans before Paconio does something stupid! Solarae thought frantically. Was the elf being brave or foolish? Probably both, she decided.

Post Re: Coming home
I've got this totally covered Solarae. I already have erected several wards against magic upon myself Paconio explained. "Well? How about it shade?" Paconio said tauntingly.

"I accept your challenge, but know this: you will not win. There is so little chance of you winning, that it would be more likely to find a grain of sand that could destroy the world!" The shade then threw it's sword to the ground and ran at Paconio.

The shade attempted a punch at Paconio, but Paconio quickly dodged and brought his fist upon the shade's back. The shade fell to the ground with a yelp, but got back up and put much more effort into defeating Paconio. Dodging these punches was not as easy as the first punch the shade threw. The shade had actually hit Paconio several times in the chest. Paconio then kneed the shade in the chest a grabbed him by his neck.

"Given up have we?" Paconio repeated the same words the shade had said to him when he was first in his cell. The shade then squirmed out of Paconio's grip and hit Paconio in the face. Paconio stumbled back against a wall...

Post Re: Coming home
Solarae was desperately trying to fight off a small army of guards and watch Paconio's fight at the same time. Luckily, her excellent fighting skills gave her plenty of good long looks at the battle. She winced every time Paconio took a blow, knowing his skin was much more vulnerable to that kind of thing than her tough scales.

Solarae blasted an entire group of soldiers with her fire, completely eliminating them. That gave her a few more moments to watch the fists fly. Paconio seemed to gain the upper hand for the moment, but the shade suddenly slipped away and punched him hard enough to stumble back into a wall. He rushed forward, intent on killing Paconio.

Thinking fast, the orange dragoness jumped around a guard who had been rushing at her. She slammed into him hard with her full weight and watched as he fell right into the shade, knocking them both over. The shade quickly screamed in rage and ended the soldier's life, but he was too late. Paconio had had enough time to escape. He glanced over at Solarae in anger before he advanced on the elf again. Sorry, she said with a shrug and a grin.

Post Re: Coming home
I suppose I owe Solarae one there Paconio thought to himself. He had narrowly escaped being defeated when Solarae pushed a guard into the shade and knocked him down. This gave Paconio just enough time to escape and prepare to go on the offensive.

The shade charged at Paconio in a such a blind fury that Paconio could sneak around to the shade's back. Paconio grabbed the shade by the neck another time, but this time it was inescapable. Paconio had his hands firmly wrapped around the shade's neck, not like the last time when it wasn't really planned.

Every few minutes or so, the shade would try to escape again. When this happened, Paconio tightened his grip on the shade's neck.

Post Re: Coming home
Solarae finished with the last of the original guards, slicing open his throat. She then ran to deal with the remainder of the guard that the shade had brought with him. Not much longer now, Solarae thought with determination. She leapt onto one's face and tore it apart before jumping off and onto another guard. She kept fighting like this for a while, leaping onto a guard's front and then leaping off onto another's when she had finished with that one. It was while she was doing this that a knife hit her side.

Solarae hissed in pain but ignored the wound. She had suffered worse. She began fighting on the ground now, tripping up guards and dodging around their weapons. She blasted away two of them with fire and then cut open another's gut with her tailblade. The floor was coated in blood and dead bodies, but the small dragoness didn't mind in the least. She turned to watch Paconio's fight for an instant, and was pleased to see he had finally gained the upper hand. As she was turning away, a small glint flashed in the corner of her eye. She turned back just in time to see the shade drawing a hidden dagger and aiming it towards Paconio's ribs.

Paconio! Look out! Push the shade away! Solarae cried, leaping towards them. A guard blocked her way, but she blasted him into a cloud of ash.

Post Re: Coming home
Paconio heard Solarae's warning, but it was too late. The shade quickly jabbed with his dagger at Paconio's ribs, but Paconio had grabbed his hand. The dagger was obviously tainted with some type of poison, due to it being purple and dripping. He could not hold the shade off for long.

The dagger was inching toward him slowly, and yet steadily. The dagger's poison made Paconio think. What was the poison comprised of? What could the poison do to him? Finally, out of frightfulness, Paconio lifted up his leg and kicked the shade across the room. The shade flew across the room and hit the wall very hard.

"Cheaters never win," Paconio said smugly.

Post Re: Coming home
Solarae blasted the final two guards into oblivion just as Paconio kicked the shade away. She raced to his side and hissed in anger at the foul creature. It's time you learned some respect for your betters, shade! she spat, glaring angrily at him, Go ahead, try that again with me here! The shade stared daggers at the pair, and then with an angry yell he threw the poisoned dagger as hard as he could at Solarae and then teleported out of the hallway.

Solarae leaped into the air, her lower body missing the dagger by a hair's breadth. She landed with her wings flared as the dagger plunged into the wall behind her. She turned and inspected the blade, with the dark-colored venom dripping down the cold stone. Whatever that stuff is, it's nasty, she remarked, sniffing it. She turned to look down the hall. We should probably leave. The elves and Du Weldenvarden still need our help, and I doubt the shade will leave the hole closed for long, she said, starting off at a brisk walk.

OOC: The funny thing is, this thread is turning out waaaaay different than I exapected

As the shade teleported out of the area, Paconio began to follow Solarae. They traveled down dark halls, only illuminated by some light source far away from them. It's soft yellow light provided only enough light to see the shape of the hall way.

The hallway seemed endless, but most prisons were supposed to be like that. There was always a hidden door. Paconio felt around on one side of the wall for some area that a door may be. None yet. He felt the other side. He was most of the way done when he felt something. What was that? Paconio asked himself. He inspected that general area. It had all of the characteristics of a door. "I think I may have found our ticket out of here" He said very softly to Solarae.

OOC: lol I know what you mean. I've just been kinda making stuff up as we've gone along. lol :)

IC: Solarae grinned at Paconio's words. Nice. Now, stand back, she said happily. She backed up away from the wall and then ran forward at the hidden, door-shaped place. She leaped into the air and backflipped straight up, kicking the wall as hard as she could as she turned and slamming it with her tail at the same time. The stone, a bit softer than the rest and heated up by Solarae's scales, flew apart in rocky chunks and a cloud of dust.

Heh heh. That's always fun, she said with a toothy grin, Nice job findin' that, Paconio. Let's get out of this dank, smelly place! Solarae ran forward into the side tunnel, not pausing to wonder if it there was something inside of it. She had long ago decided something about just that situation: if there was anything in it, she could probably deal with it.

Fortunately, there wasn't anything in the tunnel after all, and Solarae raced down it, hurrying to escape.

Paconio started down the dark hallway with Solarae. His foot steps echoed out along the long and dark hallway, making it seem much larger than it was. Paconio's thoughts now filled with hope to escape. He believed he could do it.

About half way through the hallway, Paconio started thinking about his sword. I'll come back for it he told himself. Untill I get it back I'll use the one I stole from that guard.

Suddenly, cold and almost lifeless hands reached over his mouth. He tried to escape, but he could not. He also tried alerting Solarae, but his muffled yells could not reach her ears.

Solarae continued walking for about fifty feet before realizing that she could no longer hear or scent Paconio. Oh no... I should've kept him in front of me! she thought angrily and then immediately began racing back down the tunnel.

Solarae reached the end and looked around anxiously for any sign of her friend. She caught his scent and began trailing him, hoping desperately that the shade had not killed him.

Post Re: Coming home
Paconio was dragged down the hallway, and behind a rather large garbage can. Apparently it was just another prisoner trying to get out, because he would have woken up in a cell if it was one of the guards or the shade himself.

Paconio reached out with his mind to see where he was. He was not far from the exit. He desperately hoped it was no sealed up again, but he also could not leave. He was going to scout out Solarae's mind and then leave, because he needed to know exactly where to go.

Paconio finally built up the courage to start moving when he lightly brushed Solarae's mind. He started to run down the hall...

Solarae ran down the hall. The scent of Paconio was growing stronger, and as she turned a corner it suddenly filled her nostrils as she crashed right into him. Ah! Paconio! Where were you? Solarae cried out, happy at the unexpected discovery. She clambered back upright from where she had fallen and pushed Paconio up with her nose. Heh heh, sorry 'bout that, she said, apologising from having knocked him down.

Paconio crashed into Solarae while rounding the corner. "Come on, lets get out of here" He said as he neared the escape route again.

Paconio stopped at the opening of the area. He entered it once again, first walking slowly, but later almost running... He ran as fast as he could when he heard a familiar scuttling on the floor.

Solarae followed Paconio back to the exit, this time making sure he was always in sight. She ran at a swift pace, surprised at the elf's speed. He was obviously in a hurry to escape.

The dragoness suddenly heard a strange skittering near them. She glanced around, curious. What is that? she wondered aloud, trying to catch a scent.

I'm not sure exactly what it is, but I heard it a minute before I was taken away again. Paconio replied to Solarae. Whatever the thing was, it couldn't do much good for them.

The scuttling was especially loud when the reached the end of the hallway. There was no visible door, just as the last time. Paconio began feeling along the wall for a hidden door, but he couldn't seem to find any.....

It's a trap! Solarae cried angrily, hissing. There was no door out of here, and something was coming closer to them. Whatever it was, it wouldn't be good. She looked around furiously for a way to escape without retracing their steps. Seeing none, she growled.

Alright, screw this. I'm melting our way out of here! she shouted, enraged. Her scales suddenly blasted heat, and the air around her was lit with fire. She began raking and clawing at the wall, melting and destroying stone. It'll cool behind me, just follow me in backwards and keep your sword raised! she cried, already past her entire length into the hole she was melting. Molten rock dripped along the floor, though she knew Paconio could probably cool it with a spell.

Paconio did as Solarae said, but before he came in, he put a ward on him that would make anything hot around him that touched him feel cool. He continued in backwards, still making sure to keep his sword raised.

Out of nowhere, something slided across the floor. Paconio picked it up, and unsheathed it. It was his sword! He never knew that when the person gave that it to him said 'It will always try to be by your side' he really meant it!

Paconio threw the junky sword out into the open cave, and put his real sword on. It's green edges shone against the moonlight leaking in through a small window.

Solarae glanced back and saw Paconio with his sword returned. Where did that come from? You know, that might've counted for at least some of the noise we heard behind us, if it was moving on its own, she laughed, turning her face back around. She dove forward, melting the stone away in pools of glowing orange.

Solarae at last sensed that the wall between them and the outside was growing thinner. A tiny bit of wall melted away and revealed a dark sky beyond. Wow, night already? We've been in there a while, she said, and continued melting the last bit of wall. When there was a hole big enough for her and Paconio to fit through, she leaped out all at once and spun around in the air, crouching and turning her head rapidly in case there were any enemies. Seeing none, Solarae relaxed and waited for Paconio to emerge.

Paconio emerged out of the small hole and began looking around. It was a lot darker than when he had come here. "What way is north?" Paconio asked. He then laughed at his own stupidity. The forest was visible from the prison!

Paconio started a steady pace toward his home. As time passed by, he seemed to be walking faster, until it became clear that he was when he started sprinting towards the giant green forest he called home.

Solarae laughed at Paconio. Nice, she said lightheartedly. With one last glance at the dark fortress and the surrounding area, she took off after him, trotting at a brisk pace. The trees in the distance seemed peaceful and quiet, but she knew that was certainly not the case. Many evil and dark creatures had gotten into the forest, and she and Paconio would have to track them down. But maybe after a good meal and a long rest, first, she thought.

She raced alongside the elf, feeling the eagerness radiate off him. She smiled happily and ran faster and faster, though she kept her senses wide open for threats. She could scent nothing dangerous within a good hundred foot radius of them, and she was determined to keep it that way. She was getting pretty sick of surprise attacks.

"I should run like this more often" Paconio laughed. "It is not very often that I come out of the forest, but when I do, it is usually for quite a long time" He added.

Paconio called out to one of his bird friends. Instead of a small bird like usual, a large bird came. Paconio whispered something into it's ear, and it flew off. "The bird is going to go get the item that the evil creatures are after" Paconio explained.

The bird came back about a half an hour later. This time it was escorted by a squad of very powerful looking birds. The bird dropped a sack into Paconio's hand.

Solarae laughed. Running is almost as fun as flying! Too bad I'm not bigger, or I could carry you myself! she said happily, grinning her toothy grin. Her blue eyes sparkled. For now nothing was going wrong. Though the fiery dragoness enjoyed fighting, she enjoyed having playful fun even more.

She watched Paconio speak with the bird with curiousity, and decided to wait until it came back to ask questions. In almost no time at all, the bird had returned, with several companions. They were carrying a large sack of something. Solarae gave Paconio a quizzical look. What's in there? What are the evil creatures after? she asked curiously.

Paconio's expression grew serious as he unwrapped the item inside of the cloth. It was wrapped very tightly in cloth, to keep it protected from the cold.

Paconio took a quick scan of the area around them before unwrapping the last peice of cloth. The area seemed clear enough, so he unwrapped it. What was inside the cloth was a green dragon egg. It was a lighter green, and white veins coursed through the egg's shell. The egg wobbled, and Paconio's heart skipped a beat...

Solarae's jaw dropped in surprise when a dragon egg was revealed. Paconio, where did you- her words were broken off as the egg wobbled. Hey, maybe it's about to hatch! she cried in excitement, her energy rising in happiness at seeing the little egg move around.

"Let's just say I know a guy." Paconio said slyly. He always liked pulling that one out! Paconio placed the dragon egg on the ground. It cotinued to wabble and shake, and at some times, let out a squeal.

Paconio grew frantic. This had never happened to one of his family members. His family had kept it amoungst themselves for many years, and nothing like this had ever happened.

The egg now wobbled violently and squealed extrememly loudly...

Post Re: Coming home
Solarae was held by every movement of the egg. She could see nothing else, only the movement and the smooth green surface. She was wholly entranced, for she had never seen the hatching of one of her own kind before. Maybe I've been so preoccupied with fighting and exploring... I've missed out on all the smaller things like this... but this seems so much more special, even though it's small, she thought, a small tear glistening in the corner of one eye. It was the most emotional Solarae had ever been for years.

The egg jerked and squeaked with all its force, and Solarae could tell it was about to hatch. Paconio! You're going to be a rider! she said happily, though kept her voice low. She didn't want to startle the hatchling when he or she emerged.

Paconio got over being scared and happiness welled up inside of him. He was going to be the next dragon rider of the land! Paconio walked up to the egg, and crouched beside it.

The egg cracked, and a small claw poked out. The claw jerked down, and made it easier for the egg to split apart.

Solarae saw the crack appear in the smooth surface of the egg. She drew a sharp intake of breath when she saw the tiny claw appear. The crack grew wider and wider, and little cracks split out from the first. Chunks of shell were being split and broken off by the struggling baby.

She got as close as she could to the action, facing Paconio directly across from him of the egg. She could hear the squeaking growing more frantic, and she bobbed her head up and down in anticipation and wonder.

Post Re: Coming home
Paconio almost fell over dead as a little emerald green snout peeked out of the large hole that the claw had bade. The whimpering was now slightly more clear sounding than before. The baby dragon's egg was now had cracks spreading all over it. Eventually, the network of cracks was so large, that the egg just burst into pieces!

Out of the small egg shards emerged a totally emerald green dragon. It looked so fragile, yet strong. The baby dragon's mind touched Paconio's mind, but he let it remain. Paconio sang with joy as they dragon started to walk towards him. It's snout touched Paconio's left palm...

Solarae barely held back a cry of joy when the tiny creature emerged from its safe haven, coming for the first time into a brand new, huge world. She stayed silent, knowing that this moment belonged only to the dragon and rider. The baby waddled forward and held its snout to Paconio's hand.

Solarae knew that there would be a flash of silver light, possibly rendering Paconio unconscious. But when he awoke, he and the little dragon would be bonded forever. The hatchling's emerald scales glittered like quaking aspen leaves in the sun as it approached the elf.

Post Re: Coming home
As the dragon touched it's snout with Paconio's palm, an icy pain ran up his arm. He rolled around on the ground in pain, holding his palm, and at the same time, trying to remain as quiet as possible. Paconio passed out, but still rolled around and made noises. The baby dragon felt that it had hurt it's new rider, so it curled up into a ball on his chest, thus, stopping his writhing around on the ground.

Paconio awoke a few minutes later. All he remembered about it was just a giant flash of light on his palm that caused him enough pain to pass out. The pain was now not as painful as before, but it was still throbbing. He placed his hand on the dragon's head.

Paconio pulled a piece of raw meat out of his pack. "I bet you're hungry" He said as he placed the meat in front of the dragon. The dragon immediately grabbed the meat and started taking large chunks out of it. When the dragon was finished, it appeared like it wanted some more. "I'm sorry my friend, but that was all I had..." Paconio said. "That was the blessed meat that was passed down for generations in my family, it was meant for this little dragon's first meal" Paconio explained to Solarae.

"Can you identify this dragon's gender for me?" He asked. He was not completely sure how that was done...

Solarae watched the little one, entranced. She rarely saw dragons smaller than herself, usually only if they were quite young. This hatchling was the smallest dragon she had seen in a long time. She felt protective over it. Being there at its hatching made her feel almost like its caretaker. She was glad it had Paconio for a rider; he would do a fine job with it.

She finally turned her eyes to Paconio when he awoke. I'm sure you can do that for yourself, Paconio. Just connect your minds. An elf versed in magic should have no trouble with this, you will probably get a distinctly male or female sense from the hatchling's mind, she said, I wouldn't want to interfere with your bonding. You should each discover things about each other. She smiled. Paconio had to get used to connecting his mind with the dragon's, in order to know more about it. This could be a start.

Paconio did as she said, and here words became true. A very distinct male sense. "OK, now I know he is a male" Paconio said. He now addressed the dragon with his mind. Hello, new companion, I am your rider, and you are my dragon Paconio said to him in the ancient language. The dragon seemed to understand, so he went on. How would you like the name Bob? The baby dragon seemed amused by this, and rolled around on the ground making laughing noises.

How about Augustus? Paconio asked. The dragon seemed to accept it. "Well Augustus," He now said out loud and with his mind "I am Paconio Benson, and I believe that we are going to have a great time living together. I just have one rule: you must not kill me!" he laughed at his own words. He already knew that Augustus would never do that, but Paconio wanted to show him his humorous side.

Solarae laughed along with Paconio, her heart lightened so that it felt as if she was floating in happiness and cheerfulness. Well, I think you and little "Gus" here'll be great buddies. We should get into Du Weldenvarden now, though. That shade'll probably still have a few of his minions looking for us, and the sooner we're at a safe place, the better, she said. She hated to be the one to break up the "party," but she knew that until they were in the forest at a safer location, they and the hatchling would be vulnerable.

"I suppose you are right there" Paconio said. Before he left, he picked up the egg shards and put them in his pack. He then picked up Gus and carried him in his arms under a blanket. Gus did not like it, but it had to be done.

While they were approaching the forest, Paconio kept his mind in contact with Gus. The dragon seemed eager to learn about Paconio, due to his constant looking through of Paconio's memories. Gus seemed mainly interested in Paconio's childhood for some reason.

The forest was closer than Paconio thought. He knew they were close, but he didn't realize they had just arrived untill he hit his face against a tree. "I suppose I deserve that for not paying attention" He said with a laugh.

Solarae stood up and trotted along with Paconio, taking light, happy steps. The forest soon loomed large before them, and scattered groves of trees dotted the hillsides. The edge of the forest was soon within their reach.

Solarae burst out laughing when Paconio, so preoccupied with his dragon, crashed right into a tree. Nice. I can't wait to see you in the thick undergrowth we'll have to cross later, she said with laughter still in her voice. She brushed her mind occasionally with Gus's as they travelled, just to let him know she was there to guard him. She wanted the little dragon to feel protected.

The trees grew thicker, and Solarae knew they were almost at a safe spot to rest. It wouldn't be too much longer now. She still couldn't scent any danger within a one hundred foot radius, so for now they were safe.

"Oh, when we get to wherever we are going to camp, I am going to contact the elf general that brought the elves into battle with the urgals. I need to tell him everything" Paconio said.

Paconio stuck his hand under the blanket and felt the dragon. It sure enough was asleep. I suppose blessed meat just does that to people he said to himself.

Just for Gus's safety, Paconio ordered several of his most powerful animals to guard them, at a distance. "Destroy any dark careture that comes near the border" He said to the leader of the group. The group obeyed his order, and ran into the woods

Solarae nodded. Of course. The information could be of use to the elves when they fight this shade. I'll help you tell them, with parts you don't know, she said. She wondered where he would decide to strike next, fearing that he may know about the hatching. If the shade knew, the dragon would probably be of less use for him, unless he could kill Paconio and capture Gus. Solarae growled under her breath, her blue eyes flashing. The shade would get to Paconio and Gus over her dead body!

She could barely conceal a rumble of her stomach. Hm. I hope the shade doesn't attack us too soon. I would really appreciate a good meal, she said, suddenly noticing all of the enticing scents of prey in the forest. She was always up for a hunt, but knew it would be a while before she could.

"OK, that's fine. Go hunt for a little bit, I have an entire animal army ready to die for us." He said with a mesmeric tone in his voice. "I'll probably set up camp at the clearing not too far in front of us" He added.

Paconio set Gus on the ground. "But before we get there, I'm sure some little dragon has to go potty" He said to the baby dragon. Gus reluctantly unfurled himself and walked behind a tree. Paconio had to keep track of him, so he stood right on the other side of the tree. The baby dragon went to the bathroom, and then came strolling back to Paconio. Paconio had to cover up Augustus's waste, they didn't need any followers.

Solarae nodded. Alrighty. I'm not going to eat any of the animals helping us, but I'll go catch a good-sized deer for me and Gus, she said, glancing warmly at the little dragon for moment before she left.

Solarae darted into the forest, skirting around the marked animals. The scents of the forest and of prey filled her nostrils. Her scales heated up with the thought of a hunt so close. She finally caught a nearby deer scent.

Solarae leaped into the trees and hissed, nearly right above the deer. It immediately ran, startled into flight. The orange dragoness ran above it, leaping from tree branch to tree branch, flying when necessary. The thrill of the chase drove her faster and faster. She made sheer turns only a split second behind her prey, and wasn't any slower. Finally the moment came. She leaped out of the trees and onto the deer's back, killing it swiftly with a bite to the neck. She could have easily killed it several minutes ago, but chasing it down thrilled her.

Solarae returned to the camp with her prize, and began eating. She tore off a hind limb, one of the best parts, and gave it to Augustus. There you are, little one. My name is Solarae, and I'm going to catch us food when we need it, alright? she said with a toothy grin.

Paconio and Augustus found a clearing not too far in front of them. There, Paconio set up camp for the three. He then started a fire from dead tree limbs he found on the ground, so he could cook some of the meat to see how dragons liked it.

When Solarae returned, Paconio took a look at the large deer. "Wow!" He said. "I have never seen a deer that big!" He exclaimed. Paconio took a bite out of the apple he was holding. When he finished chewing, he said "Would you like me to cook some of that meat for you guys?"
