Batman: The Animated Series
Does anybody remember this show? I do and I absolutely loved it. In fact, I loved it so much that I went and bought Volume 1,2 and 4 on DVD. I've never been able to find Volume 3 anywhere though.
Anyway, I liked this show because of the good animation, awesome music score, character depth, Mark Hamill is an awesome Joker, Harley Quinn, the voice acting, and the 1940s style Gotham City.
First, Mark Hamill's Joker is awesome. In fact, I consider him second only to Heath Ledger's Joker. I grew up watching this show so Mark Hamill's Joker is the one I'm most familiar with. I like how he can be funny and scary at the same time.
Harley Quinn as the Joker's sidekick was a plus too. She may be a dumb bimbo but she is every bit as cruel and insane as the Joker himself. In fact, she was so popular with the fans that DC put her in the comic books. I think she and the Joker actually make a cute (but insane) couple.
When I was a kid, I didn't actually understand what was going on most of the time. I just liked watching batman beat up bad guys. However, now that I'm old enough to understand it, I am amazed at the complexity of some of the episodes. First of all, I like how the villains are portrayed. Some of these guys actually have pretty tragic backstories. Take Mr. Freeze for example. I like what they did with his character in the series. For a 30 minute cartoon, they actually managed to tell some pretty good stories. I also liked the episode about the Gray Ghost, who was played by Adam West. I mean, the characters in this show seemed real to me even though they were just cartoons. Warner Bros did a great job with this show. What do you think?
