Could roran be the next rider? I think so

*moved to book 3 section, because this topic was just floating randomly undetected in the "inheritance trilogy" sub-forum.*

I agree with IMNOTCRAZY. Arya is going to be the next Dragon Rider.

I say he is the next rider, it is very clear to me that it is possible for Roran to be Rider. I don't think it could be anybody else, the name most suits Roran. I have many reasons for him being Rider.

I doubt it is Roran cause like I'MNOTCRAZY says he is from the wrong side of the Gene pool although that wont make much of a thing tho cause all the riders werent related either so i rekon its Arya because it would clear up all the problems about Eragon and Arya.

That's a crappy reason though. And all Arya has to do is just to show some feeling for Eragon and that's all. 1 reason for Roran is that he is related to Eragon and so is Murtagh and then they'll be all related by family.

I bet more than 1/2 of the old riders hsd 0 relations with riders. That is THE worst reason you could come up with! and he is still from the Non-rider side of the family.

on the other hand, Arya beoming the next rider can be a catalist for their the development of her relationship with Eragon. the development of certain aspects of the book matter.

That's like the only reason why you say she is the next rider, because you want them two to get together.

Seeing this is CP's last book, I don't think he'll want Roran or the reader to go through another Rider training. There's not enough time for that. BUT, Paolini will take the storyline whereever he has decided, and this WE DO NOT KNOW!

OK, I am quoting from the Chapter Preview Excerpt, since the pages are not numbered I cannot reference it properly:

"A huge twisted shape hurtled out of the lancet passageway. Eyes black, bulging, rimless. A beak sevenfeet long. Batlike wings. The torso naked, hairless, rippling with muscle. A beak seven feet long. Claws like iron spikes."
"Saphira lurched as she tried to evade the Lethrblaka, but to no avail. The creature crashed into her right side with what felt to Eragon like the strength and fury of an avalanche."

At my hasty first read I was under the impression that it had been a trap. (Today I was able to read at my ease after I was rested, breakfasted and open-minded) But it seems not. The lethrblakas were not in Helgrind at the time of the arrival of Eragon, Roran and Saphira. Eragon had sensed the presence "one of the slaves and of two people whom he had discovered imprisioned within Helgrind the previous day..."
SO I am assuming these two prisoners would be Sloan and Katrina. As the identity of "one of the slaves", I do not know. But why would Eragon know it as a slave and two prisoners?

Anyway, something for you guys to ponder. I just arrived from the University night class and I am busted. I need to go to bed. Tomorrow is another day!

same here, i dnt think there will be any effect on Saphira's ability to mate, i think having Arya as the next rider and her having the 3rd dragon Saphira will want to mate with the 3rd dragon ( if that makes sense??)

I'd want to mate with the only good dragon also!!! it doesn't really matter who it's rider is for Saphira, though she MAY be happy that her mating MAY help Eragon out.

of course she wants to help him out she loves him!!! she wants him to be happy plus she like Arya alot nywayz!!! she let her rider her!! i dnt thin she would let ny1 else apart from her and ERagon (Orik excepted nd mayb Roran)

i KNOW! but neither we, nor probably Saphira and Eragon know how her mating will affect them all emotionally. We have NO CLUE!!! My GUESS is that it will afect them, but not drastically and it will not be the presiding factor.

I don't question that she would want to help him, but through those means and conciously doing so for that reason? no. but what is wrong with positive side-effects?

I say Roran and Eragon were about to enter Helgrind when the Letherblaka attacked them from out of nowhere. When did the DLE come out? Is that that is too it?

it came out tuesday. it is 6 pages long, but Annie posted a relevant exerpt.

Eldest DE was released this past Tuesday. The excerpt was of the third chapter of Book III, but only 5 pages were published. We still have no publishing date for the book!

evidence supporting Arya being the next Rider.
1. she is female, and since the Rider and dragon are intimatly linked, Eragon would have feelings for the green dragon like Saphira. But, since he can not love the dragon, his feelings would shift towards the dragons Rider, and if the Rider was, you know,um, a male, yeah.
2. She has green magic, and the color of the magic reflects a Riders dragons color, even though she is not a Rider.
3. She is an elf. she is a creature of magic, and she would not need the extensive training that Eragon had to go through. She would just have to wait for the dragon to mature.

I am very much aware of the 99.99% probability of Ayra becoming the next Rider. And if you had read some of my posts on the topic, you'd see I believe she, more than any one else deserves to have that egg hatch for her. So you need not to convince me, I convinced myself! i was cringing everytime Eragon made a move on Arya in Eldest, so I will welcome a few good moves in the next book. I'm cringing just thinking about it!!! lol.

Ok. No they could teach each other all that they know and they will be linked mentally to tell each other things that have happened while they are fighting.

Eragon can do that w/o Roran being able to. when they meet at the battle of the burning plains, they were able to communicate. what is keeping them from doing that now? NOTHING!!! and it would still be boring. come on. come up w/ something that would be interesting!

not really. there isn't fault in my reasoning. i hcae searched a hundred times for any faults and weak points and i haven't found much. the few times i have, i have found other pieces of evidence to strengthen them. the difference between me and Scarecrow is that I have a strong argument and he has like nothing.

Still I don't believe that Arya is the next rider. Roran is worthy enough for me, Arya hasn't really done enough for me to recognize her.

It could be anyone at the moment, based on facts, yes Arya is probably most likely, but why would CP want people to guess the whole book? He wants people to be suprised, so he just might not make Arya the rider because thats what the basic thoughts would be, also he might not make it Roran. Did you ever guess that Murtagh would be the next rider? i didnt think so, he caught you by suprise and that made it a good book, he will do the same thing in book 3. Either Eragon has a sister of some sort (account of the Inheritance triliogy, keyword there Inheritance ) All 3 riders must be related some how right?

Yeah that was what I was saying, Murtagh, Eragon, and Roran are all related, they would all make since if Roran became rider, then they would all be related. It would be cool if all three of them went against Galbatorix and attacked him with their dragons.

See theres one problem there. Roran is a cousin. Murtagh and Eragon are brothers, thats why i have the thought of another sibling (possibly a sister) being the rider. Makeing them all brothers and sisters. But who knows maybe they dont have another sister, if they dont have another sibling then Roran would be the next best thing.

How would he have a sister? Unless Salena had another child with Brom or Morzan which I highly doubt. I think it's roran that is that other sibling.

as to the family thing, it has no credit because Brom's parents weren't riders and neither were Morzan's. it makes no difference.

"INHERITANCE" why do you think he would choose a name like that for the trilogy???? it makes no sense other than the 3 riders are related by brother and sister. Tho it doesnt have to be Eragons and Murtaghs family. They both inherited from their fathers, maybe there is one more son of a dragon rider down the line. Arya will not be the 3rd rider, it would take away all points the the INHERITANCE (please look up that definition it might help you a bit).
