Yes, I dug this topic up, but with good reason!

Their newest album was recently released: Awake. We had pre-ordered it online and it arrived in the mail a few days ago, along with an awesome black-and-white T-shirt (that was given to me since it was too big for Toph). :) We listened to each song aloud, but I haven't gotten the songs for myself on my laptop, so I haven't gotten the chance to hear them clearly. When I first heard all of them though, I definitely knew my favorite: a song called Awake and Alive. Follow that link to listen to it in HD on Youtube. I think the part that really struck me was the chorus, because it's just as powerful as Rebirthing, if not, even more. Listen to this immediately; believe me, you won't be disappointed!

It's alright. I discovered something about Skillet now that my music taste has become more varying. They repeat.... a LOT. It's rather irritating actually. Instead of repeating a chorus twice maybe 3 times like a lot of bands they repeat it up to 5 times, or repeat the same lines twice.
I still like Comatose as an album better.

I didnt like the raspy warbly way the male vocals sounded in "Awake & Alive". Its something I have seen carried on throughout the album as well. Its not his natural voice unless he suddenly turned into a 50 year old smoking addict so you know that their voices were altered by the computer a lot.
The songs that have impressed me the most are "Lucy", "Never Surrender" and I rather enjoyed the beat of "Hero".

Hm, they kind of do repeat a bit, but not as much as other bands that I know of. I didn't see many repeats in the songs I've heard so far (I haven't clearly listened to the entire album yet), but they only repeated the chorus in Awake and Alive 3 times. That could be annoying, but to me it just adds emphasis to the dramatic feel of the chorus. *shrugs*

You think John sounds like a 50-year-old smoking addict? Haha, could be, I personally hear no difference in his voice. That's how he's always sounded, you know, rough.

I'll give those two a listen as well as the rest of the album. Yeah, Hero's a great one, I wonder if they'll make a music video for it.

I love their new CD, I had bought a card to redeem it at Sonshine (in July) and I "got" the CD the day it came out. I am fully enthralled with everything they have done. Awake and Alive, Hero, Lucy and Monster are freaking amazing.

Oh, and here's the music vid for Monster:

Well, I guess that's your opinion on it. I thought it was much better than their past albums, which were good, though this was much better. Skillet's been around for a long time, and I can see they've improved so much since their first albums.

The music video was so cool! I liked the effects and the overall fast pace. The song was incredible too, though I'd rather have them do a music video for Awake and Alive or Hero also. Do you guys think they'll do another?

I'm guessing they'll do one for Hero, since most bands do music vids for their singles. (Hero and Monster being the 2 singles from Awake)

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm assuming they're going to take a while for Hero. The music video released just as quickly as the album, so those guys work fast. Though they might be taking a break as of now. I'm not sure, I'm no Skillet mind reader, lol.

I'm glad to hear that! I think they're taking over as my favorite band as well, and I really admire John Cooper (their singer). :D

I don't know whether or not you guys are updated, but they released music videos for "Monster" and "Hero" (follow the links to watch!). I thought they would make one for Awake and Alive, but as of now, we've seen nothing of the sort. You never know, they could have something up their sleeve at any moment. Like I said before, I'm no Skillet-mind-reader.

A kid at my school saw I was wearing a Skillet shirt the other day, and I soon discovered he liked the band, too. I told him about the new album, Awake, and he asked me to burn him a copy of it. So I did and I'll give it to him tomorrow. But that's beside the point, lol. The point is I had no idea there was another person in our school who was a Skillet fan! It's nice to find things like that out.

@Aang: The music videos for Monster and Hero are both really cool. I like Hero better though, both as a song and video. I never really liked the song Monster... *shrug*.

@Invizable: Cool, that's awesome. I'll be sitting at home and being a loser and turning 17 that day.

Comatose is so much better as an album than Awake, in my insignificant opinion. But that's probably only based off of personal reasons.

@Toph: I thought Monster was really cool, but I haven't exactly watched the video entirely. I guess I better do that now.

@Australianrockstar: Yeah, Those Nights is a terrific song, same with Monster. I thought Awake was much better than their past work. I'm not saying their past albums were bad, just that I think they've improved greatly throughout their musical careers. :)

@Everyone: Call me Alex. (:

@Toph: For one, you are so NOT a loser. Really? That's you're b-day...hmm gonna have to get on to wish you a happy birthday (: And...Comatose is pretty awesome. Yours to Hold is also one of my favorite songs.

@Aang: Haha..it's called Ticketmaster. (: It's in Cleveland if you know where that is. Hawk Nelson and Decyfer Down are accompanying them. I'm physched.

@Aussierockstar: Well... *shrug* I don't know. Thanks though.

Yeah, I mean they both have their own good songs but as a whole, I just liked Comatose more than Awake. Maybe because I could relate to it more? I'm not sure.

@Alex: Heh, thanks. Yes, that song has always meant a lot to me. And basically the rest of the album is amazing too.

@Alex: Ticketmaster? I've never heard of it. And yes, I know where Cleveland is. I've never listened to much music by Decyfer Down or Hawk Nelson... is their music similar to Skillet's?

Decyfer Down is kind of heavy-ish, but not really all that much. Idk what to call their type of music haha. Hawk Nelson is rock/punk type music.

Toph: Yea...I get it. Great song.

Aang: You just buy the tickets online then lol. Yea Im driving up to Cleveland for the concert. I live like a hour away.

Hawk Nelson, Im not a big fan of...too not heavy for me. Decyfer Down is pretty good but not near as good Skillet.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they formed the band in 1996. Korey's mainly the keyboardist, but she does backup vocals too. Not in Awake, though. I'm pretty sure she plays guitar sometimes too.

I'm not sure of all the music videos they have, but of the ones I've seen, I'd say Monster is my favorite. I take a liking to music videos with a story and acting, but Hero didn't have too much of that. I'll go check to see what other music videos they have....

Found something!!

They have a good amount of music videos, but I'll only post their more recent ones.
Savior
Rebirthing
Looking For Angels

I think my favorite of those was Savior, it had a good story and cool effects. I thought the Rebirthing one was kind of a disappointment though.

Yeah, I agree, those are all some of their best songs. Though it would be unrealistic for them to have so many music videos for so many songs. What I mean by that is, for example, they only have like 2 singles on Awake, Hero and Monster. They can't make a music video for every song, that would just be tedious work and wouldn't keep the fans as eager. A third music video from Awake I would be fine with, but any more wouldn't be pleasing.

So I've been listening to Skillet since I came home from school today because my grandpa died earlier this morning. Whenever I'm sad Skillet music almost always makes me feel better.I think they truly are amazing.
And does anyone know what the song "The Older I Get" is about? I looked it up and I think John said it's about forgiving his Dad. I may not be right.

Yeah, their music can be applied to a lot of different personal issues and such. I'm really sorry about your grandfather. :( I hope you can come over your sadness, especially with the help of Skillet's music.

Hm, The Older I Get? I always thought it was about a relationship and breakup, but there's no way of being sure. Where'd you read about if being towards his dad?

No problem. :)

Oh okay, sounds good. I like when musical artists put their feelings in their songs and mention things in their pasts that they either regret or enjoyed. It's like they're putting their heart in the song, you know? It gives the whole song so much more meaning and purpose.

Yes! It really does. I'm so happy that John writes about things like that, not like some artists out there today. And another thing, John writes all the songs that Skillet plays. I used to like Miley Cyrus alot and I thought she wrote all her songs. But when I found out she doesn't, I was so disappointed. I hate when artists don't write there own music. It makes me feel like there just taking credit from someone else.

Yeah, tell me about it! A lot of pop singers have other people write their music, which is so disappointing. Luckily, the majority of rock bands out there have someone in the band write their songs, or they write it together. And usually I find it applies to their lives and others can relate to it to feel better. I mean, take Miley Cyrus's "Party in the USA" for example. How can that mean anything to anyone? It's just about a bunch of people having a party. There's no emotional significance in that song whatsoever! I feel like the lyrics of songs are one of the most crucial aspects that give the song its value, and artists like Kanye West or Lady Gaga hardly put anything into the song's meaning.
