i went 2 c eragon sat and the beginning waz great but instead of taking a couple of months 4 saphira 2 grow up it took a span of 5 min which waz kinda weird and after that them runnin from the ra'zac and everything waz pretty acurate until they got to daret and they meet angela and instead of being really old she looks 17 and she fortells only 2 things out of the 10 or so things she really does; on top of that eragon suddenly nos the ancient language and kills all of the urgals and after that he like uses magic wheneva he wants 2; they cut out the whole thing with jeod, brom is killed by durza at the prison where arya is kept, arya is with eragon when they bury brom instead of murtagh, brom doesnt tell eragon the secret words before he dies, they cut out the whole travelin through the hadarac desert, n the end the fight between eragon and durza is completely wrong: instead of arya and saphira bustin e diamond and savin him its just 1 big action fite and they make it seem like saphiras dead and eragon has 2 give all of his energy 2 her; most importantly eragon does not get the scar from durza n the end like hes supposed 2 changing everything; all in all good if you've never read the book but if you have it was a dissappointment

I know there was alot of things wrong with it. Like the twins were missing, Katrina wasnt even mentioned, Solobum isnt there, or Joed, or Orik, Saphira grew up in 5 seconds, and isnt Eragon supposed to drag Garrow into town because the house was destroyed?

There was a whole wack of screwed up things. But what they did get right was good.

The book was fantastic. Very few people would disagree. The moment a director takes a film down a different path, he or she can now not be guaranteed success.

Also, if you have a time limit of 1 hour 30 minutes, you’re never going to squeeze it all in. The Eastenders omnibus edition is on for longer than that!!!

yeah but for some that is just too long. from the time they had they did a good job and try fitting over 500 pages into 1h and a half if they had more time but not that long it may have been betta..if that makes any sence at all???

I went in with an open mind. In fact, I have been soooo excited about this movie for like a year now! I had countdowns and my friends and I were ready to see it after school the first day it came out! But the majority of us were soooo disappointed!

A ton of things were done of out order! Too many things were left out or glossed over. I agree, it should've been longer. A lot of the colors were wrong... Eragon's hair is supposed to be brown, Arya's is supposed to by black, I think Brom's is supposed to be white... Then, Saphira's wings looked like feathers; not webbing, not leather-like...but feathers?! Her growing in a few seconds was ridiculous too! And then Arya did not have pointed ears...she's an elf, for goodness' sake! And then, they weren't any dwarves. At least that I could tell, they must have been the height of man! I'm pretty sure the Urgals have horns... The Ra'zac have beaks. I don't even think you know that until the second book, or at least you don't really "see" them, because they were wearing hooded cloaks or something? And then, Arya told Eragon she was the princess of Ellesmera, which doesn't even get found out as a surprising element until the second book. And then, she left at the end...which she doesn't do... How are they going to start the second one, if they make a movie out of Eldest?

So, those were just some of things that made me the maddest. ^_^ Sorry, I had to have my little rant... It just really disappointed me, especially after I had waited so long and had gotten so excited about it!

Estelwen Anduril, you have every right to be frustrated. It should have been better and truer to the book. Films are never as good as the book because the imagination is so powerful, but films can still be a great representation ... but this one wasn't.

Hopefully the DVD will be unabridged.

Yes, unfortunately they cut out Arya's and Eragon's dual. It seems they cut out most things that were too difficult to picturise ... and for some strange reason, they added bits into it like Durza flies on the back of a big black rat spirit with giant teeth, at the end of the movie when he fights Eragon and Saphira.

They spend time, money and effort in areas of this film where they didn't have to, which obviously left their budget stretched in other more needed areas ... so they skimmed over them.

Well there was just one good figting part and it was Brom vs. razzak - I'm afraid that it isn't enough

If they increased the fights and therefore the violence, I wonder how many of the people who have seen it, wouldn't have been able to?

another thing that sucked waz that brom taught eragon 1 word n the ancient languae and then all of a sudden he waz speakin it fluently n all of the magical scenes wich is stupid cause it isnt that easy 2 master and n eldest he waz still learnin stuff about it

You should still see the film and make your own mind up ... maybe you'll see something in it that we didn't ... or maybe you'll just have more facts and figures to contribute to this discussion, or advice on how they could make Eldest a better film than Eragon.

That would be pretty funny . I hope they do even though it's unlikely. I hope they see how much they screwed up the best book ever made !!! I didn't think it was possible to mess up such a remarkable tale but I guess they found EVERY loop-hole , EVERY nook and cranny to screw it up!!! It's like they tried to ruin it....

I was laughing at the end when Eragon and Saphira almost died.

Let me just say i came out from seeing the movie right now and i have 3 words for it I LOVED IT. A few months ago i read a lot of negative remarks of peole saying how it was going to suck and stuff and i didn't even feel like seeing it. But you know what i went and i saw it and even though it was really messed up in some parts i kept and open mind and just watched the movie like i had never read thebook and it was awesome. So you go see it and make up your mind about. Maybe later you can come here and trash talk it or say how much you loved it.

even when people were moaning b4 it came out about how bad it would be i didnt care and couldnt wait!! i thought some things were bad but i got ova it and decided its just as good as any other film which is based on a book and remeber it was BASED on a book meaning it didnt have to totally follow the whole thing through and through.

LoL. There is no way i could lower my standard to a movie like that and say it was good. There was no character development, and if you say there was then you must of left and got popcorn and or drifted asleep or had a time lapse because there was none that carried any feeling. There was only like 2 scenes that fit with the book, other then that all was wrong and the only impressive thing was Saphira thats about it. The music to a movie also makes or breaks a movie and in this case along with the pursuit of happiness it broke the movie. Lensiy Alen claim should have done the music and they should have had the approach that lord of the rings took because the books had the opportunity to compete with the Lord of The Rings series and the movies, but now its completely out of the running.

I have seen if four times just so i wasn't being biest to saying i hated it, but it has so much wrong with it not even comparing it to the book that there is no way i could recommend anyone to see the movie anymore.

It will be cool I'm sure in 25 years when some director that knows what hes doing picks up the book and decided to make a better series of movies, as I am 100% sure it will happen.

I had VERY high expectations for the film and was VERY disappointed with it. I think if I hadn’t of seen the film on the first night it was out, and I had read so many harsh reviews before viewing it, maybe my expectations would have been slightly lower, and maybe I wouldn’t be quite so critical of it myself … maybe I’d of half enjoyed it.

I wanted so desperately to love the film, but I just couldn’t …

the sounds and the effects were GREAT! and the new actors too, but was soo diferent from the book!

Yo, badbunny, I hated movie , too. t was such a disappointment. I got to the cinema and was so excited to see Eragon's and Brom's travelling and stuff you mentioned, and then buf: nothing, nothing and only nothing. I still can't believe that they turned the whole story over: it's not that story in fact!
And people call it a great movie, lot of effects... Yeah maybe, if you haven't read the book!

I did not enjoy the movie at all, it was nothing compared to the book and that they took out major characters from the book.

I don't know where you heard that Christopher Paolini wrote the script. I am 100% sure I read on Shur'tugal that Paolini signed a contract with FOX stating that they basically could do whatever the heck they wanted (which they definitely took advantage of) without Christopher Paolini's interference.

actually i read it in his book, translated in croatian...they translated it about the time they decided to make eragon a movie
it says(in translation) :
blablabla...he lives in montana where he is working on eldest...blablabla...in the meantime he has FINISHED the script for the movie eragon, which is filmed by 20th century fox....blablabla...
i mean i would be very very glad if the people who wrote that in the book were wrong cause i curently so hate paolini for masacaring (did i write that ok?) the book... he is briliant, but why did he have to write such a lousy script? WHY? i sooooo hope he didn't write it!!!

The movie was alright. They should have given Angela a bigger part though. She told him a lot of , um, important stuff, if that's the right word for it. And they didn't put in, the werecat, {I'm not going to try and spell his name.} He was like, one of my favorite characters in the book! And it really irritated me that Saphira grew up so fast. She learned to fly then she grew up. {Sarcasm}That's the way its always been though, the dragon learns to fly and grows up before you can blink. I feel bad for their parents. If i grew up that fast I would probably die. Thinking about it makes my stomach turn.
The baby saphira was really cute though!!
one more thing, the urgals didn't look much like i pictured them, niether did Durza. I didn't think Durza would look old. Oh well, that's just the way i think.

I really didn't like it. They killed the Ra'zac right there in the first movie, Arya didn't look anyhting like Arya in the books, Saphira was messed up, her spiked were missing, Eragon had the wrong hair color, the gedwey ignasia was different, Brom was revealed B4 he died, Ajihad wasn't bald, Garrow wasn't dragged to town by Eragon and Saphira, Gedric wasn't mentioned, nothing about Teirm was mentioned, Eragon didn't get captured in Gil'ead, the movie makes you think Galbatorix was ruling from Gil'ead not Uru'baen, there were hardly any dwarves, they showed Hrothgar but he didn't look like a dwarf. That is all I can think of right now, but I'm sure there's more.

the urgals didn't have horns, there were no soldiers in the battle of farthen dur in the book , but there was in the movie, they left solembum out completely, murtagh was mentioned in yazuac, brom didn't kill the razack in the book, they killed him, arya was BLONDE! eragon was blonde with blue eyes not brown, saphira and eragon just suddenly knew a lot about the AL and how to fight, saphira suddenly grew up, in the clouds, the only dwarf in the movie was hrothgar, eragon didn't almost drown under the waterfall near the varden, angela, didn't have brown hair in the movie, and this list that we have conformed isnt even half-way done!!!!!!!!!

Well, by Teirm I meant everything that occured in Teirm and Teirm in general. Solembum, Jeod..... Things like that. And Arya was a redhead I think. Angela was in Daret not Teirm, I mentioned Hrothgar. And in the movie Durza killed Brom, not the Ra'zac. I know you didn't say that, it's just a staetment. believe you with the half-way thing. I think there is so much.

I think I'll make a topic where we can list the things we didn't like in it one-by-one and see how long it gets. At first I liked the movie, but that was because i hadn't read the books. CP should be happy, the movie is the reason I bought the books.

I thought the Eragon movie was ok but the book was so much better and in the movie they missed out heaps of things that made the book really cool. What do you think?

I think it was rated PG or PG-13 I'm not for sure.
