IC:
The beor mountains stood tall, Majestic, and mysterious. A untamed land and one of the last free places in this world. It was a harsh and dangerous land pocketed with ruins from various ages. Great watchtowers of the once powerful dragon rider empire in the times of kings past. And things far older but lost to memory in the endless sea of time. All crumbling and weathered.... abandoned.
A lone figure braved these snowstorm swept mountains. A dangerous task this time of year. But this youth was on a mission. To find a rumored monestary where elementilists once lived. The information he recieved came from a reliable source. But the last time the said person he got it from visited the place was centurys ago.
Ba'al slowly limbed up a rocky draw on the tallest of the mountains. His furs caked in a mixture of snow and ice. He stopped his climb to steady his labored breathing. The air was thin up here and he was not accustomed to it. He tugged on a life line rope tied to his waist until his tired pet wingless drake also covered in animal furs came panting next to him. "Almost there Solomon" He said weakly and took hold of one of the pet wyrms horns and shook the head playfully.
It seemed as if the mountain was testing him. Since he started the climb days ago the entire mountain was beset by a unending blizzard. Much of the climb Ba'al had to stop and break camp for fear of him or his pet being overcome with a touch of frost. Lost fingers or limbs was not something he wanted.
Ba'al took in one more labored breath and let it out. The hot air of his lungs misting in he air. The moisture from it causing crystals to form around the protective furs around his face. The climb resumed despite he could not see past a few feet in front of him but at last he reached the summit. Or at least what Ba'al thought was the summit. The monestary as he was told was there. But no welcoming light shone from the dark windows of the structure. It too, like everything else in this wretched part of the land seemed abandoned and forgotten. Depressing as it was Druak saw the light in every situation. "At least we have proper shelter now" He thought and trudged through the heavy snow that was up to his knees. It to, like climbing the mountain. Was a tiring task and drained the energy from his stiff muscles like the biting cold wind that seemingly cut right through him.
Reaching a giant ancient looking oak door Ba'al pushed on it with both of his gloved hands to no evail. Stopping to regain his breath he summoned on the earth to give him extra strength. With some grunts and groans the giant oak door creaked open. Entering the pitch black structure a bit to get out of the wind Ba'al took a knee and dropped his backpack laden with supplys and primitive mountaineering gear. Ba'al produced a torch and waved a hand wordlessly to set it aflame. Standing up now the youth held the torch slightly over his head to cast more light around and he was horrified at the sight he found.
"This is no monestary....It is a tomb" He wispered to his wimpering pet beside him. Countless human bones litered the entrance hall of the old monestary of the elementilists. Many of the bones still had there armor and Ba'al was able to figure out that the empire beat him here. Decades if not centurys ago. They killed every living thing within its walls. As much as spending the night in a place where the empires ethnic cleansing forces came bothered him. The young mountaineer had little choice. It was that or freeze to death in the ever worsening blizzard outside. "Come Solomon" Ba'al commanded his pet and tugged on the leather life line around his waist.
"Tread Softly brother" He continued to speak to the dog sized serpent. "The spirits here are old, and angry. Ouroboros guide us. With that the two moved deeper into the entrance hall doing there best not to step on the bones of those long dead that once lived here. Ba'al did his best anyway. He had to smack his pets muzzle once in awhile when it decided to chew on a human leg bone or rib.

Re: Shadows of the past (Open)
Equinox soared over the ruins of the Lightning Dragon Empire. The visions still haunted him for what lead to what could have been his birth right's downfall. Genocide, slaughter, betrayal, but most of all the pain of conquest for the shattered remnants. So much strength the empire had been but now, it collapsed, shattered on the ground and in pieces. I will avenge what has been lost. At least he said so, but he doubted he ever could. He didn't only have Crimson to deal with, but Demondred and others. The remains of a large tomb passed him by, from what he remember from his last trip here it was one of the mass graves from the war that brought the empire to its knees. He could almost feel the sorrow of that tragic day. The fall of Mt. Thunderbolt, the decisive battle that led to destruction, where the last emperor's most trusted general betrayed him. And from what the alfin and his spirit said, betrayal is in my future. True, he didn't know of the alfin when his ancestor spoke of him, but their warning would wring through his head. "Beware Equinox, for the night of the double eclipse, one of those you love will cause your downfall and the collapse of hope as we know it.." It wouldn't be for years, but the words still etched into his mind. He shook his head and lied down outside of the tomb, it wasn't the time for such thoughts.

Re: Shadows of the past (Open)
"Do you even know where we are?" A youth said loudly so he could be heard over the blizzard winds. "Its been awhile since we saw a flag marker" The older empire soldiers stopped there march to gather in a huddle and talk privatly leaving the young conscript out of the circle. At last the group huddle ended and they waved there young comrade in arms over. "We cant be to far off the patrol route. You see that old tomb. I know exactly where we are. The temple of the elementals is further down this path." The youth crossed his arms. Despite all the furs they wore the armor underneath did no justice in helping them stay warm. "Why are we even stationed there!?" The young soldier yelled over the wind. "The elementals are all dead"
"Orders are Orders!" The older soldier yelled as well. His voice faint as it was carried away by the wind. "Lets just go! The gods willing, they will have fires at the occupied fort overlooking the monestary." The youth seemed to brighten at that idea. "And Warm Food!" He chimed in. "OK Kid! You are pulling trail guard!"
With the talking over the soldiers reenforcing the fort higher up resumed there marching line. The youth slowed his walking so he was in the rear of the formation. "Hold up guys!" the young soldier called as he broke formation. "I got to drain the lizard!" Unfortunatly for him they did not hear and therefor did not slow down. Trudging through the snow the young conscript that was not yet a man went behind a large jutting rock that shielded him from the wind so he could use the bathroom without the wind causing any accidents.
"Stupid mountains" He grumbled and started to trudge through the snow again at a slightly different angle then he came in. "Stupid snow. I am so sick and tired of this already. As he walked the youth saw the open door of the tomb as the blizzard broke for a minute only to quickly resume blanketing his vission in white. Going in that direction to investigate the conscript did not notice the dragon half covered in snow and tripped over the tail to land face first in the snow. Cursing colorfully he got up and ran a hand over what he thought a rock. The young soldiers gloved hand ran gently up the tail until he walked beside the dragon. "Wow,So warm" The strange youth said to himself again. He seemed to have the habit of it. Leaning in close to get a better look at the warm stone formation he was touching. Though the human youths head was completely covered in a fur headwrap his eyes widened and he stuttered. "D-D-D-DRAGON!" With wimpers of fear the young soldier took off as fast as he could manage to get away only to stop barely at a cliff drop off he did not see. The youths balance was not quite good though as he spun around to avoid going off. The human pups arms flailed then started to grabb at open air for some purchase that was not there. With that he went falling off the cliff backwards with a scream.
Further up the lead soldier in the formation stopped at the faint scream carried by the blizzard winds. "What in gods name was that?" There was a silance before the veteran warrior gave the order. "Get a headcount".
The youth who fell earlier clung for dear life to the side of the mountain face. His life saved by the leather straps of his equipment harnas. A gift from his alagasian hosts. Mountains were nothing new to this foreign human from across the sea. Just the biting cold winds that hit him relentless sapping the warmth and strength from his body. Right at the moment as he slowly climbed back up the cliff overhang he was wondering why he fled on the trader ships in search of adventure. The desolate rocky mountains and rolling sands of his desert motherland seemed far more appealing.
The disguised young prince'ling prayed to his gods for the hope the dragon above was gone. In his country they were things of myth. Wiped out long ago by the very slaves that once suffered in the shadow of tyrany there wings cast on them. Dragons were things of horror storys told around fires. Storys that mothers told there children. Mothers took delight in telling there disobediant children that if they did not behave dragons would steal them away in the night to feast on there flesh.
Inside the tomb Ba'al was finishing up his brief exploration and heading back to the entrace. This place was not his destination and somehow he did not feel safe or welcomed there. Nearing the entrance tugging on his pets rope lifeline Ba'al stopped dead in his tracks seeing the outline of a dragon in the snow swept land outside. His first instinct was to drop to a knee in reverance to one of his living gods. But since coming to alagasia he learned that there were not only good dragons, but also evil serpants. Ones that according to his faith. Turned there tails to the elder gods and thus fell from there graces unlike the good dragons that were the elder gods messengers among the world of mortal men.
The entire tomb was built as if for a dragon to enter so there was no where to run if this one was one of the betrayers of there perpose. Solomon, his pet, bared its chest down low to the cobblestones crafted not by dragon claws. But the nimble clever fingers of man and let out a deep growl. Its horse like ears flared back to display its displeasure. Holding up his torch to cast the light around more Ba'al just said simply. "Tis cold outside my lord. Would you not prefer to come inside?"
He was not sure what outcome would come from his actions of boldly addressing the wyrm. It could treat him kindly as others have, or with indifference as some viewed the weak two legged mortals of this world as lesser races not even worth talking to. Perhaps the dragon might even act with full on hostility. The smell of human flesh has been known to stir there appetites and this dragon might be cold and very hungry.
"I am Ba'al" The fur and mountaineer gear covered human called out. "I am on a pilgrimage to see the elementals in a monestary. But I fear I have lost my way in this storm swept mountain. Oh great dragon lord would you be so humble as to help guide me back onto the right path?"

Re: Shadows of the past (Open)
Equinox cocked his head up as several humans interrupted his nap. He yawned and glanced at them. It was odd to see humans this far into the mountains, since the empire was conquered he doubted them, they didn't look like Varden soldiers, and if they were Crimson or Demondred's menions they would have attacked him already. He took time to observe them, maybe he just wasn't used to be being called lord, but it didn't matter, they needed help and he'd try to aid them if he could. Elementals? I'm not quit sure what you mean, but if your looking for the remains of thte lighting empire you here. This is one of our largest cities, at least before their betrayol and conquest years before I was born. What brings you this far into the mountains? Not many humans or even dwarves or elves remember the empire.

Re: Shadows of the past (Open)
The human heavily wrapped in winter furs let his head hang low for a moment after hearing a bit about the place he was in. "Yes few remember the dragon lords of old. I had at one point just thought they vanished until I came to this country and learned otherwise." It was a sad topic so he just avoided it for now to just enlighten this dragon about why he braved these mountains. Having petted Solomon into a more agreeable and less aggresive state the human took a knee and held his arms to his sides. There palms upright. With a flash one palm held a burning ball of fire. The other crackling electricity. "I am an elementalist my lord. Unlike an elemental I can control many if not all the elements. I had hoped to find a monestary up here so I can train. I am but a hatchling that has yet to shed its skin in the final molt" It was another way of saying he was weak and still had not yet learned much of anything.
Closing his palms the display of magic disapeared. Still the human knelt though before the dragon. "I feel duty bound my lord to tell you this. Inside I have found remains. The empire has desecrated the place. If they have reached here surly they must have found the place that I seek. Are you certain you do not know anything about it? I do not want to go walking into a trap.
He did not want to sound to doubtful to the dragons words. But caution was best not to be thrown to the wind. Elementals like him were hunted like many other magical creatures. Or so Ba'al had heard. He generally avoided making public displays of his power.
