I agree. Let's go with it, get Solarae out of there, and stop that dang armada from coming any closer. We don't need any more trouble. I'll edit if you really don't want to yet. IC: Solarae faced the magician, teeth bared and flames whipping around her. She was about to leap forward when the man suddenly reeled back, and then stretched out a hand toward the surface. "They're trying to pass the wards, are they? Well, by the time they do, it'll be too late," he mumbled to himself. As he was steadying himself, Solarae jumped forward. He caught her movement, though, and a pulse of magic struck towards her. The orange dragon sent out a wave of magic fire to shield herself, and both attacks countered the other. A group of yellow-blue lines appeared around the magician and flashed down toward him. He dodged around some and blocked others with magic. Solarae, meanwhile, had extinguished her magic fire and was jumping at the man. She tackled him to the ground, only to get flung off again by magic. A long gash down her side showed that the magician had attacked in return. Sensing a magical barrier directly ahead of him, the hulking chunk of meat (OOC:lol xD) raised his forearms. Blue sparks of magic flew outwards and yellow sheets of electricity bruised the epicenter of his attack. Something was trying to connect to her mind. It was enough to distract her, and she was too late to stop the magi. She felt the massive pouring of energy into his being, the catastrophic build-up. Just before it exploded outward, Solarae lit her scales on fire to burn debris that might hit her. It was all she could do. With a massive explosive sound, the magical power ripped out from the magi, tearing apart the ship underwater, and sending Solarae spinning into the darkness. She spun over and over in the water, not able to breathe, not able to think. As she slowed, she noticed the magician was gone, the ship debri floating in the water in a large sphere around where it had been. As she looked up, she could not see the surface. It was too far down. A faint haze began closing over her vision, and she felt her consciousness dim away. Just before the blackness swallowed her, she heard a tiny voice in her head. The words might have been imagined. The barely audible voice whispered, Rae... OOC: Ah!!!! IC: Gryfendel snarled as he crashed downwards again. This time, he heard a loud explosion, then, as if the barrier was taken out of existence, he started falling at his initial, pre-contact speed through the water. Solarae! The fiery dragonness' name rushed out of his maws bearing all the speed and volume of a thunderstorm. Rushing downwards, the ancient dragon folded his wings further than he had done in centuries and tucked his forearms into his side, stretching his neck as far as they would go to minimize water resistance. But he was too slow, and Solarae was slipping from his sight too quickly. Letting out a distraught roar, the dragon's eyes turned red. Opening up the massive cavities of his fire lung to the rushing water, he breathed a cone of all consuming fire at the falling dragonness, hoping to somehow wake her up with a sudden rise in temperature. _________________ Roleplaying Characters :: Eriel & Emrhyst Gryfendel Alcioraell

It's much cooler than that. Right, Astral? IC: Solarae felt something, a tiny connection. It was a mental presence she had not felt in... in... she didn't even know how long. Though it was familiar, she couldn't identify it, only feel the connection to it. It was all she could feel, until a voice entered her mind. The voice was familiar too, but she didn't know who it was. Rae... Rae, you need to wake up... swim, swim... Wake up! She felt a sudden burst of heat around her, and her blue eyes snapped open. She found herself looking up, and there was a faint glimmer above her, like dragon scales. Why was it getting further? Solarae shook her head as she came awake, seeing that she was sinking, drifting down into darkness. Her lungs screamed for air, but she couldn't go up yet. She felt the connection, still, and its source was nearby. She turned smoothly in the water, and saw a tiny glow of warm, orange-gold light. It looked like a small fire, encased in amber. She frowned and swam toward it, wondering what it was. She felt the connection to it, she knew she had felt it before. As she approached it, she realized it was an Eldunari, and she reached out to grip it in one claw. A shock rippled through it as she made physical contact, and suddenly she was no longer under its spell. She became aware of her need for air, her need to breathe. Solarae started to swim up frantically, but she wouldn't make it. She was too far down. She swam toward what she now knew to be her friend Gryfendel, but her movements were slowing, her vision growing dark. her lungs were burning. Finally, she could hold it no longer, and she pulled in a lungful of water. However, as Syl tried to catch up, someting was begining to happen. She could seense it, another presence...but she wasn't sure how she knew...it wasn't traceable, nor was it threatening. IC: Gryfendel breathed a small sigh of relief when Solarae opened her eyes. That would've been bad. He laughed, then noticed that Syll's gaze was being drawn by something else. Peering into the dark murkiness, his eyes,still red, picked up a faint orange glimmer. Eldunari! Gryfendel exclaimed in the dragon tongue and, transfixed by it, began descending down to it slowly as well. All of a sudden, Solarae started to sputter and cough, she started to swim frantically towards him. The sight of the orange dragonness thrashing wildly shook Gryfendel out of his reverie. This was taking far too long. If any of them were ranked best swimmer, it would be Syl. After all, she was an ice dragon and could endure such conditions. However, Syl had never made it that far before in the depths of the water like that. It was going to be tricky. Watch out! Syl cried out, racing past Gryfendel as she used her wings to propel herself with the currents of the water. I can reach her! I can handle water! Though she had doubts, Syl presumed herself as being confident in herself. Solarae! she hollered to the feiry dragoness in her mind. Don’t you dare quit on me now! I’m almost there! But she had a lungful of water and the energy didn't help when she had no oxygen. It only made her able to watch as her death drew closer. She tried frantically to swim forward as she saw the silvery-white form of Syllwin dive toward her, but her muscles weren't responding properly. She finally stopped herself, and gathered up the energy. She could feel her vision going dark again, but she needed to propel herself forward. Her body suddenly burst into flame, and the heated water behind her turned to steam and pushed her rapidly upwards. It only lasted for a few seconds though, for her vision went red and then black, her chest burning as she lost consciousness. She had nearly passed Sol but quckly grabbed her with two claws as she used her wings to pull both Solarae and herself up towards the surface wht unbreakable speed. Meanwhile, Syl looked down and noticed something shhining in the dragoness's claw... Hang on, she murmrued to Solarae. When they made it to the surface, she did not recover; her lungs were waterlogged, and she was unable to cough the water up. However, a surge of energy rippled through her, generated from the glowing gem in her grasp. Rae... Wake up, my little spark... keep your fire burning, the voice said into her mind, now more familiar than ever. But who was it? He looked at both of them and sighed, then spread his massive wings and launched into the air. The dragon craned his neck, frantically scanning the horizon for a place where they could make land. It was only then that he noticed that the moon was now high in the sky, shining brightly. Turning his gaze from the moon, he made out a blurry spot on the horizon due east of their location. Descending again, nudged Syll and Sol with his snout gently. We should head for land soon. IC: Syllwin agreed with Gry as she kept Solarae's head above the water. The feiry dragoness had been past out and would not be able to swim by herself. I'll swim with Sol on my back. I can see the strip of land in the distance, I'll be able to swim faster than flying. I should be able to get her there in no time. She was still very confused about what the voice was in her mind, and why it was so familiar. Finally, her eyes opened, and the coldness of the water startled her awake the rest of the way. She felt cold... very cold... and tired. S..Syllwin? You got me out? Thanks, man... she said weakly, starting to shiver. Solarae was not a dragon of the cold. Usually she just found it annoying, but in her weakened state, it was dangerous. The presence brushed against her once more. Don't worry, Rae. You'll be alright, it said soothingly, and she felt a sudden warmth enter her body. She lifted her head weakly from Syl's back and glanced toward the shore. Hopefully they would arrive soon so that she could warm up. Cold and wet were not exactly her favorite things to be. However, she couldn't focus on her condition, or even on Syllwin. The Eldunari grasped firmly in her claws was taking most of her attention. How do you... know my name? My old nickname? No one's called me that since... since... a long time ago, she murmurred into the dragon's soul, almost fearing the answer. When the consciousness brushed against hers again, the contact was more firm, and she felt waves of affection and love from it. Sudden realization and recognition flooded through her like a tsunami. That's sweet dude! Okay I think I can get going on this. IC: Syl nodded. No problem, just get some rest, we'll be there in a jiffy, she told Solarae, as they were almost at the shore of the island anyway. When Sol began to murmur something, Syl was about to tell her to save her strength and don't talk when she realized she was holding something close. Syl looked out of the corner of her eye and saw that whatever Sol was holding was glowing and speaking to her. Then, the next word she spoke startled Syl. Dad? She didn't know what to say, nor did she think she should have said anything at the time. Syl just kept swimming, knowing how much Sol disliked the cold and how weak she was becoming from it. Once the reached shore, Syl immediately bounded towards the trees, finding a spot that was secluded yet clear of everything except grass. She immediately went to work drying off Sol as quickly as she could, wishing with all her might she could start a fire. You'll have to get a spark going Sol, Syl told her as she gathered dry wood. That's why I was so anxious to start this up again. IC: Solarae was too stunned to focus on anything else that was happening around her. Even the fact that she was very cold and drenched with water wasn't affecting her at the moment. It's good to see you, again, Rae. Well, in a manner of speaking, her father's Eldunari joked, and the orange grinned. I... I haven't... I had been gone for so long! And then when I came back, I just saw bones! Was it really the Empire? Did they get both of your Eldunari? When did it happen? I'm so sorry! she exclaimed, all the words spilling out at once. Her father's consciousness grew more solemn. But... your mother was stronger than I. She did not give in and give them her Eldunari. She is gone forever... I am only here because I was weak, Rutilidon explained, his voice filled with grief and guilt. Solarae was at a loss for words. Abruptly, she realized that Syllwin had taken her to shore, and had asked her to start the fire. She also realized she was shivering more intensely now, and needed to get a fire going to warm herself. No worries, I... I can still start a fire just fine, she remarked with a laugh, though her laugh was rather hollow. She spat some flame on a gathered pile of logs, pleased that she could still accomplish that much. Still bewildered, and as yet unsure of what to make of Rutilidon's news, she turned to her icy friend. Well, Syllwin, I guess I'd better tell you something. The Eldunari I rescued--the one the Shade had--it's my father's, she said, opening her claw and letting the warm coppery gem slide out onto the soft earth. Greetings, young one. My name is Rutilidon, and I am Solarae's father, as she says. I am excited about this as well. IC: Syllwin helped her by edging the wood close so she wouldn't have to move much. Sol was already so drained, and something must have sent her into a state of shock. Sol you have to try and relax you've lost a lot of energy, Syl whispered soothingly as she seemed distressed towards the strange gem in her claws. She spoke to it, and at first Syl thought she was losing it that maybe Sol had hypothermia, when the gem itself began to speak. Syl took a step back, staring at it the thing that was called an Eldunari. What is it exactly? And how the...heck did your dad end up in a gem? Syl exclaimed, wondering if water seeped into her brain. This is crazy! I mean, how is it possible? She added in a sheepish mumble, Eh, it was nothing. She probably woulda done the same to me. The dragoness's next words surprised her. Has no one taught you of the Eldunari, yet? I suppose it's up to me, then, she spoke to the young dragoness, And yes I would've done the same, although carrying you might have been a little more difficult. Solarae laughed with a little more energy that time. Anyway, the Eldunari is something all dragons have inside. You do too. If a dragon is afraid of imminent death or wants to be with someone who is far away, or for any reason really, they may transfer their consciousness into their Eldunari and disgorge it. Then they can place it wherever they wish. If the dragon's body dies, they will continue to live on within their Eldunari. My father's body is dead, but his soul is not. It is here, Solarae explained, gesturing gently to the glowing gem. It was mainly a warm copper color with a brighter, fiery glow at the center, which flashed as Rutilidon spoke again. The Eldunari is not to be taken lightly, however. Disgorging it is a very important decision that requires the utmost care. Unfortunately, in my case it was not my decision. Galbatorix's men tortured it out of me and then killed my body, he spoke, his tone overwhelmingly sad. She wasn't sure how to tell Sol's father how sorry she was for what had happened to him but Syl was not the type of dragon that was gentle or sincere. Most of the time she was sarcastic and rude so she kept her mouth shut. That is very unfortunate, she murmured. Syl turned to Solarae, hoping the fire had warmed her from the icy dip in the ocean. She glanced at her father's Heart, observing the beautiful glow within. Eldunari were quite amazing to look at. She wondered if hers looked like that... she couldn't remember. The icy dragoness asked what she would do now, and Solarae's blue eyes took on a hard glint. That puppet of Galbatorix still has the treasure I was trying to get. I'm going to fly south until I find the ship he is on. I am getting that treasure back, and I am killing him, she stated, her voice determined and cold. She would not rest until she had vengeance and took whatever treasure this was. The magic-user, by using the Eldunari of Rutilidon, had just made this personal. Solarae sighed. She was too weak to head off immediately. I need to rest now, though. A night of rest and some food later and I'll be good to head out. What will you do, Syl? You can come with me if you want, she replied, wondering if her new friend would continue this journey with her. You don't have to, though. It wasn't in Syl to get into situations such as these, but living the life of a loner hasn't exactly lived up to her expectations either. After all, living day to day in the ice caves of the north had only allowed her mind to wonder and calculate. While she pondered, Syl threw on a couple more logs onto the fire before she answered. Your going to need someone who watches from afar, plans ahead before jumping in. Though action is better than sitting around thinking, it's better to be safe than sorry. You may have only one shot at it, maybe two, to retrieve your treasure. I'm sure it's going to get harder from here, the security is sure to go up every attempt at stealing it. She grinned a lop-sided grin at Sol and replied, Count me in. A life with friends is better than no friends and solitude. Finally, she answered, and the orange grinned in return. That sounds perfect. Polar opposites make a good fighting team, you know. Also, you are probably right about the planning thing. I usually improvise, but in this case some strategy could be helpful, and I'm not that great at ahead-of-time plans, she responded with a chuckle. She was good at figuring things out on the fly, but early strategizing was not one of her skills. Syl seemed more cautious, definitely the planning-ahead type, which would help. If I may add some input, I think you two will be a good team. Solarae could use someone who is good at planning. It will increase her chances of success, Rutilidon put in, his Eldunari glowing brighter as he spoke. The small dragoness chuckled. So you have no qualms with me hunting down one of Galbatorix's ships and magic-users in order to steal back some treasure? she asked her father. I know you are capable, Rae. Especially with a friend to help. You were always too independent for me to expect to be able to control you, her father replied, his Eldunari dimming and his mind going quiet again. Solarae laughed and turned back to Syllwin. So you've lived alone for most of your life, you said? I've spent a lot of time on my own, but I wouldn't really consider myself a loner. That's always good to have, to be able to plan while under pressure last second. I know it would be challenging for me. Rae was definately a go-getter, knowing what she wanted as she went ahead into something dangerous. It alluded Syl's skills by a long shot. She said to Rae's father, Thank you, it's good to know that things are going on the right path, especially from another point of view, with a light laugh in an attempt to joke. Syl became more solem when Rae asked her about her solitude. Life hasn't been kind to me. I wasn' always like this, sarcastic and antisocial. I was more carefree, however when Qaeos captured me things became more formidible and dark for me. He ruined my aspect on life and I can't change who I am. I decided I couldn't trust anyone after that and so I remained alone in my ice cave. She shruggd. She had faced many hard times herself, but they had been more spread out over her six hundred years of life. Syl was still quite young to already have experienced so much. I have been a captive, myself. It does terrible things to a dragon... but you will be alright in the end. You are free now, and even if you are a loner, you are not alone. You have me for a friend now, that's for sure, she replied with a grin, hoping to lighten Syl's spirits. If the icy dragoness ever needed her help in the future, Solarae would do her best to be there and lend her support. So is there anything you can tell me about Qaeos? Is he still alive and looking for you? I'm sorry to hear that. That it does, but at times I feel like...nothing will recover. I won't recover. There are too many things, but I guess since it was recent it'll take longer should I ever find peace. That is, if I do, she mumbled, almost feeling defeated. When Rae stated that she had a new friendship with her, Syl's sadness lifted. She smled. Thanks, I feel the same way. Yes, he's still after me, and always will be, she growled. He tortures dragons for the fun of it, and I was a...special case. Since I used my illusion ability to get away, and I've never broken, he's been trying to get me back in his grip ever since. He wants to use me for dominating the world, what else. But I don't know where is at this point. Syl said this as she stared out across the ocean. Don't worry, Syl. You will recover. The memories will never leave you, but there will come a time when they won't matter anymore, because you'll have enough good memories that the bad ones will be overwhelmed, she relayed, hoping that this would prove true for the icy dragoness. And even if it wasn't exactly true (Solarae wasn't sure if her good memories really outnumbered the bad), the good ones were certainly more potent. As for Qaeos, like I said, I'll help you with him whenever I can. If he's one step behind you, I'll wait for you to get ahead of me and surprise him. I'm pretty good at that, she added with a chuckle, determined to help Syl out. She glanced away for a moment, out towards the ocean. She didn't have many good memories, true, but they were the ones she remembered and clung to. The time Aaron and her travelled to the mountains in search of treasure, and the time when she hung out with Phalynx as she started to get out of her antisocial rut. They were things worth remembering, as Rae had pointed out, and the bad memories...well, they were harsh lessons Syl learned that she will keep with her forever. She bowed her head to Rae. Thank you, I appreciate it. Yes, you do have that quality about you, she added with a small laugh. She noted Rae's lust and anger in her eyes, and Syl murmured, I'll help you too, getting back whatever it was you needed. That magician was nasty, and heck, if we make a plan to go after him we'll be twice as ready with twice the butt-kicking. She smiled at Rae.
