CHAPTER 1
THE EMPIRE OF SHADOWS

Lightning Sword walked toward the mountain. He had a sword that’s blade was as long as his body. The hilt was made of cobra leather and he held it with two hands. Though it was a two handed sword he swung it so fast it was a blur to his enemies. He has even surpassed his master at sword fighting. Even though elves are stronger then humans he can swing his sword faster than most elves. Everyone knew him by Lightning Sword know one knew his real name it was rumored that he didn’t even know his real name.
He sat on top of a black stallion it blended in perfectly with its surroundings and a large red horn was on its head. Its horn resembled a unicorn but it was no unicorn. It was a rare breed of horse the common ancestor of the unicorn and horse. Its coat was smooth and its eyes were brown. Even though it has been trotting for hours it was barely out of breath. It snorted as they approached the mountain.
“Do you since anything odd?” asked Lightning Sword.
We shouldn’t be here Lightning Sword do you even know what this place is, thought the horse.
Speaking to it through his mind he said. Yes I am scouting out the area they have to have some weak point.
I think some of them are out tonight not to many but at least ten.
He knew what the horse meant by them. Shades were the ruling race of the Empire of Shadows. There lives were longer than humans but only slightly. They had immense strength and dexterity. Their armies we matched by none and their warriors had never fell. Lightning Sword gripped his sword, Silostra’sean was as smart as any human and possessed a sixth since but even he couldn’t see through the darkness well. He had to do it though know one else would. He was traveling through the land claimed by the greatest empire on the planet, the Empire of Shadows. It was said it has been in control of almost all the continents of the planet for over ten thousand years. He was headed towards its capital. The closer to it he got the more empty it was of light. He wondered why the sun was shinning from above but hardly any light passed through the mists.
Lightning Sword was the one of the last humans in the world. He lived in the elven country of Salmadol where the last humans lived and it is also the last free nation. Only a few thousand humans lived there the majority of them were old though. His sword was elven made he gained it from his master after be bested him with the sword. He found Silostra’sean in another territory of the Empire of Shadows. At that time he was only four years old but soon he became a powerful force.
Silostra’sean ears went straight up and he lifted his head high. He pawed the ground with his hoof Something is coming.
From where asked Lightning Sword.
An arrow tore through the air and missed his head my inches he kicked Silostra’sean in the side and he didn’t need telling twice. He galloped away as fast as he could but something was running behind him. Lightning Sword locked back but didn’t see anything against the blackness of the ground. Another arrow flew right over his head but he didn’t stop. Whatever was behind them was gaining ground on them Silostra’sean jumped over a crevasse and landed on the edge of a cliff that was two hundred feet off the ground. They were trapped but it looked like what was following them couldn’t jump it.
“You stay here I’ll look for a way out of here.” said Lightning Sword.
No, it’s too dangerous out here, wait something’s is scaling the crevasse.
Then in that case we stay and fight.
Silostra’sean glared at Lightning Sword and looked back at the crevasse. They both knew what ever was following them was down there coming up. An explosion was sounded and it blasted both of them to the ground. A large steel net fell toward them but Lightning Sword was too quick he rolled out of the way and stood up. He heard a neigh and Silostra’sean was caught in the mesh. He kicked and stomped at it but it just entwined itself around his body and was cutting into his skin.
“It seams we caught your little friend.” said a cool voice.
Lightning Sword grabbed his sword and faced the direction the voice came from. He saw a long black cloak against the ground and a man’s face that was as pale as the moon. His eyes were blood red and he held a sword that was thin enough to go between a pair of ribs and its blade was pure white with what looked like black mist surrounding it. Lightning Sword knew who he was a shade the rulers of the Empire of Shadows. He wasn’t sure if this one was the leader but by the look of his swords he was high ranking.
“Ah yes the famed Lightning Sword how I always wished I could test by strength against you.” said the shade.
“Let us go, or do you really wish to fight me.”
“Yes we do.” replied the shade.
Lightning Sword looked over to where Silostra’sean was tangled in the steel mesh. Seven shades were around him each with swords like the other. There was one main difference though the shade Lightning Sword was facing sword was larger and the black radiated out of the white blade covering it in a shroud of darkness. One his pale hand was five rings made of gold.
“You seven take the horse back to the capital I’ll deal with Lightning Sword.” barked the Shade.
The seven shades bowed and picked up the mesh Silostra’sean was in. The last shade, who Lightning Sword thought was the leader of the Empire of Shadows stood staring at him. A cruel smile formed on the Shades face as he challenged Lightning Sword.
“This fight should be interesting,” he said “I thought all humans were weak because how easily I tore through their country three days it took me would have been less if it wasn’t so large. You the strongest and the one of the last of their army, now let me test my theory that all humans are weak.”
He sliced his Sword at Lightning Sword who blocked it he expected it to shatter the thin sword but the two blades just collided in mid air. The shade was pushing him toward the edge of the cliff. He sliced down at the shades legs but it was blocked he sliced three times at his head twice at hid middle then back at his head. The shade blocked each strike and continued to push Lightning Sword toward the cliffs edge.
“Cento!” barked the shade. Fire erupted from his palm and struck Lightning Sword in the chest. His amour that was fireproof burst into flames and he tore it off and threw it back at the shade who knocked it out of the air.
Lightning Sword charged the shade and slashed at his chest five times up to his head down to his legs then back to his head then his arms but all were blocked. Lightning Sword stared at him in amazement he was gasping for air when the shade wasn’t even out of breath. He charged the shade at parried a blow to his side.
“Tired are you, would you like me to kill you now, to end all you’re suffering to end your meager life.” laughed the shade.
Lightning Sword couldn’t believe it the shade was toying with him while he was fighting his hardest. He wondered how long Salmadol would last if the shades attacked it. It was the super power of the world besides the Empire of Shadows. He himself was trained by elves and saw their full strength but could they stand against the shades in battle and win. Even their magic seamed far less superior then the shades. He also thought of the dragons whose country was taken over ten years ago when he was just a boy. Had any of them fled before they were enslaved by the empire? Had any of them made out of that country alive? A few dwarves lived with the elves after their country was taken over centuries ago even some werewolves in Salmadol.
“Lightning Sword it appears to be I was right about how all humans are weak, I at least expected something better out of you.” The shade laughed “Do you see these rings each from a country that I or my master has conquered. One from my own, one from the dwarves, one from the humans, one from the dragons, and one from the werewolves and now all I need is the one for the elves. Though they posses no power they are a reminder of the countries that have conquered. Each of these rings was made from the bones of the countries leader and I made them gold by magic. Once my master take over the elves the whole world will be mine.”
“You will not defeat them.” said Lightning Blade.
“I will but first I must kill you or if you’re lucky I will just in prison you.”
The shade charged at him and Lightning Sword swung his sword and the shade. Both blades met in mid air and Lightning Sword’s sword cracked through the middle. The great elven made sword fell onto the ground half of it still attached to the hilt the other half lying on the ground to rust. He stared at it in shock; it was centuries old and said to have been forged by magic. So how could it be broken by a normal sword?
“Adnecto” said the shade. Chains flew around Lightning Swords body and tied his arms to his sides and locked his legs. He fell backwards and crashed. He glared up at the shade knowing that he had been defeated. He tried to move his body but he couldn’t move at all. The chains were so tight it breathing was raspy it felt as if his lungs were being crushed.
The shade picked up the remains of the elven made sword and stared at them. He laughed they were nothing compared to his own sword forged by shades before his master’s rise to power ten thousand years ago. It was made by an unknown material and was infused by a dark energy. Although he would live the average life of a shade his master was immortal by age because a dark spirit had taken over his body but not by force he wanted it to.
Normally a shade is made when a body is taken over by a shade but how have they managed to produce a nation of such strength? It is said that when the elves were nomads and much more barbarous then they are now they created the first shade by magic. If the first shade was an elf then it was know wonder they have such great strength because elves were once the dominant race.
The shade look down at the two halves of the sword and said “You have no more need for this anymore.” He said and tossed both halves of the sword into the crevasse below.
“Lacerta,” said the shade “take him to the Opacusde’nelozar and toss him in the dudgeon.”
A large lizard like creature climbed out of the crevasse it was what was chasing Silostra’sean. Its body was deep gray and its tong that was going in and out of its mouth was deep red. Its eyes were black and its claws were deep white. It went over to Lightning Sword and dragged him to the edge of the cliff and climbed down.
The shade smirked he had accomplished is mission for his master. He took off each of the five rings and crushed them into dust. They were meaningless to him and his master who ordered him to destroy them as well though he keep one which was on his other hand and moved it to his sword hand. It contained the bones of all of the leaders of the countries that he conquered.
A large cloaked figure came up to the shade who instinctively bowed down. The other shade that approached him was not showing his face or his hands. A sword hung by his hip and its hilt was dragon scale.
“Master I have done what you ordered.” said the bowing shade.
“Nalizar you have done well I expected it to take much longer than that. Now for your reward the girl, as I promised you life will be spared.” said the tall shade even in a cooler voice than Nalizar.
“Thank you master, thank you and what about my family.” said Nalizar almost pleading.
“They too will be spared but if you make any mistakes I will start killing them one by one.”
“Yes master I will make know more mistakes I promise.”
“Good now rise and take your sword I have important plans I need to discus with you and my seven generals.”
“Yes master.” replied Nalizar who got to his feet and grabbed his sword.
They jumped over the crevasse and walked around it though it would take them a while it was the fastest way of getting to the capital. They walked across the landscape that was once dominated by a vast forest but now only had small shrubs and the occasional lizard.
“Master if I may ask, what are your plans?” asked Nalizar.
“You will here at the council but I will tell you one thing. It involves some captured dragons.” said the tall shade.
Nalizar was about to say something but the tall shade broke in
“Don’t you trust?” he challenged.
“Yes master.” replied Nalizar.
“Then you have nothing to fear fool.”
After a few hours of walking they approached a large mountain. At its peak dark clouds shrouded a city from view but the two shades saw it perfectly. It was sitting in the peak of a dormant volcano; even if it did erupt the city would remain. The shades placed an ancient magic on the volcano that any lava of ash that came out of it would come out its bottom. Nalizar stared up at the volcano and a cruel smile formed on his face. He couldn’t wait to get there soon he hoped he would be able to spill elf blood.

There are a few spelling and punctuation mistakes also when he speaks to his horse its hard to tell when.Great work though!!
