 Re: Evil Amongst AlliesReona Abr Rauthr bellowed as the starry red flame ingulfed him, burning him. In retaliation, he spewed flame on the nonmoving form of Ebony. His eyes glinted evilly as the other black dragon roared. Continuing his flame, he leaped out of the line of fire onto the silvery form of Phalynx. He slammed onto what would have been her back and wings. Snarling, he lunged down to bite into the base of her neck where it met her shoulders. This time he was not met with resistance. He fangs sank deeply into her phantom flesh. He ripped savagely, then leaped back to his previous position, his upper lip curled in a snarl. Using the energy he had taking from the Ancients, he created a shield around himself that would protect him from the flame of the two dragons.
---------------------- Ebony bellowed as the flame engulfed his weak body. the withering heat left him, but he felt his darkness injure Phalynx. Snarling with the effort, he tried to stand on his legs. They trembled, but held. He was almost up when Reona landed beside him and forced him back down with a paw, sending jets of pain from his wounded belly. He roared as fangs embedded themselves in the hollow of his neck. He felt the vibrating growl as the void black dragon spoke. Move once and I'll cut his jugular. hissed the dragon holding him. Ebony tried to get to his feet again, but was yanked down by the fangs. Re: Evil Amongst Allies Fenirexes looked at the dragon in anger. These were some of the situations he really hated. He looked around, looking for anything that could help, but nothing stood out, and no ideas came to his head. He sent energy over to Ebony. I know you're severely wounded right now, but you have to try and fight him off, just this once. We'll take care of the rest, he said, sending vast amounts of energy over to Ebony. The effect made him feel tired, but he didn't really notice it, at least not for now.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal jerked back, but wasn't fast enough to avoid Reona's attack after sending the boost in energy to Ebony. She hissed in pain, and her image flickered for a few moments in Ebony's mind as she felt the pain in her physical body. She pushed herself past it though, and her light strengthened. The powers of my mind are greater than those of my body, she thought briefly, readying herself. She growled at Reona, who was standing ready to kill Ebony. Death here isn't like the physical world... if Reona "kills" Ebony, there could still be time left to bring him back, she thought, wondering how to move forward. She did have one thing she could do. Even here, she could manipulate magic. She stared inside Reona's protective shield, planning what to do. Finally, she made up her mind and began to examine the pattern of the shield. The magic that made it up had an ordered flow, one she could tug on. She slowly began to pool magic in a small space, and stretched out a thin, invisible line in between Reona's jaws. When she had built the small shield, she sent it almost instantaneously down the line, where it briefly blocked Reona's teeth from touching Ebony. At the same time, she lent more of her strength to the black dragon. Get away, Ebony! You have the strength to stand! she cried, holding the magic shield in place for as long as she could.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Ebony panted heavily between the jaws of Reona. He hurt all over. Both Fenirexes and Phalynx sent him energy to help him fight. he felt the barrier between Reona's fangs and his neck. Baring his own fangs savagely, he twisted around and bit into the black dragon's neck, nearer the head. Reona bellowed and released him. Snarling, he slowly got to his feet and limped toward the silver and red dragons. He felt the black prepare to spring on him. As the dragon launched toward him, he whirled around and grabbed the black from the air and threw him to the ground. He heard ribs crack.
Fire and smoke roiled in his mouth and nostrils. His eyes flashed ruby. The tip of his tail twitched. That was the only warning Reona or his friends had before he roared. Loudly and angrily. It resonated around his mind, making even himself wince. He snarled, backing up so he stood in between Phal and Fenirexes. Are you two all right? he growled, strength slowly returning to him. Reona made to spring on Phal again. His upper lip curled even higher. Hurt her again and I'll make sure I break every bone in your body with my spell. he snarled, smoke trailing from his nostrils. Re: Evil Amongst Allies Fenirexes looked as Ebony was able to free himself from Reona's grasp. Snarling, he quickly launched himself at Reona, who expected a head on attack. At the last moment, he moved up and flew above him, lashing his tail down as hard as he could against Reona's back, making sure to avoid the spikes on his back.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phalynx glared at Reona as Ebony got free and roared at the evil dragon. She stepped lightly to the side as her friend joined them, standing between her and Fenirexes. As she saw Reona gather his legs to attack, his gaze focused on her, she growled low. He won't get the chance to hurt me. I've no distractions to slow me at the moment, she said to Ebony with a glare at Reona. Only a few moments passed, and suddenly Fenirexes sprang at the evil dragon, flashing above him to swipe at him with his tail. Phal darted swiftly and smoothly to the side, letting out an even stream of starfire that came at Reona in an arch going from front to his right side. Her steps were fluid and quick, and her full attention was on the evil dragon. She was faster than him; easily able to avoid attack.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Ebony snorted. Snarling, he opened his maw and roared black flames. The whithering inferno engulfed the upper half of the evil dragon. Reona bellowed and backed away. Each step the black dragon took, he followed by stepping forward. His lip still curled in a snarl, he continued to flame on the black dragon. When he did stop, the evil dragon's chest, forelegs, neck, and head were badly burned. Despite his injuries, the black tried to spring on Phalynx again. Growling deep in his throat, he leaped in front of the attack and took it into his side. Quickly getting to his feet, he grabbed the evil dragon with his muscular forearms and threw him several feet away. As the dragon landed heavily on his side, four ribs cracked audibly. Two in Reona and two in Ebony. Both dragons bellowed with shared pain.
Ebony staggered at the pain in his side. He remembered Daidrea and his dark side, Aerdiad (sp?). Were he and Reona now linked? Peeking inside himself, he looked at his soul. One part was black and soft gold laced together in harmony. The other half was void black with no other colors or shades. He groaned as he came back to himself. Not bothering to hide his words from Reona, he spoke. Reona is a part of me now, like Daidrea and his darkness. If he is killed, even in my own mind, I will perish with him. he snorted. The black dragon grinned evilly as he struggled to his feet. Then all I have to do is threaten to kill myself and you will be at my mercy. he said. Ebony laughed, a harsh barking sound. Re: Evil Amongst Allies Fenirexes had not yet seen the dark form of Aerdiad, but he knew the whole situation because of the stories that Mesaraih had told him. Indeed, it was a dark and painful thing to be keeping inside yourself. He looked at the two dragons, unsure of what to do next. Then, very suddenly, he exited Ebony's mind and snapped back to reality. For a moment he felt lightheaded and unbalanced, but he righted and composed himself quickly. He looked around to see if anything had changed, but everything in the dark city still lay the same. Of course, that didn't exactly mean much. He sighed and wondered what could possibly happen now.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phalynx moved quickly to the side when Reona started to spring, and attacked his back with starfire as Ebony took the attack. She frowned, upset that he had done so. She could have gotten out of the way, there was no need for him to injure himself. She simply moved around again, her muscles tense and her flame ready to emerge should she require it. This creature is linked to you now? There is no way to expel it? Well, if there is not, you can at least subdue it, she said, her voice pained. She had seen the dark side to many of her friends. Was that the destiny of all dragons? To get an evil half? She certainly hoped not. But now Ebony would have to deal with one as well. Do you need help any more, Eb? It seems safe to withdraw, as you seem to have reached some sort of agreement not to kill each other, she said anxiously.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Keeping his eyes trained on Reona, he turned to Phalynx. I believe its alright. Just watch me carefully when you return. he growled, his muzzle wrinkled in a snarl. The black dragon attempted to jump Phal again, but the roiling of flames inside Ebony's jaws quickly ended that notion. As soon as the silver dragoness had left his mind, he locked Reona inside a cage in the corner of his conscienceness. The evil dragon paced the bars, snarling and growling.
Coming out from his mind, Ebony staggered. His entire body trembled. His body sagged to the ground and his wings drooped. Lifting his head wearily, he snorted. Are you two alright? he asked, then his eyes landed on the wound at the base of Phal's neck. Oh Phal. I'm so sorry. he said. He slammed his paw into the ground, shimmering silver talons extended, and raked at the earth. A tear escaped from his pure gold eyes. I can't believe I let him hurt you. He snapped his head to the side as he thought he heard a noise from one of the buildings, but nothing was there. He sighed and turned back to Ebony.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal nodded slowly and her form slowly faded out of the plane of Ebony's mind. She pulled back into her physical body and winced, her neck feeling quite awful and sore. Before she could start healing it, Ebony came back to the physical world as well. Yes, you sustained many wounds yourself. Perhaps we should go back to the grove of trees. Then your rider can assess you properly and we can all get healed, she suggested, eyeing the dark city with contempt. It stood out like a shadow on the ground; Galbatorix's stronghold was proving ever-dangerous to approach.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Ebony winced as he stepped forward. Let's go, then. I'll tend to your wounds and my own when we land. he murmured to silver-scale-Phal, spreading his aching wings high. Giving dark-citadel-Uru'baen one last, whithering look, he jumped forward, driving his wings down. He could feel his connection with partner-of-mind-Felecia strengthening with every wingbeat, and eagerly quickened his pace. Soon she came within view, along with Mesaraih. Backpedaling, he landed beside his Rider. Crooning anxiously, he curled his neck around her protectively.
He gently licked Felecia on the cheek. She moaned and stirred, placing a hand on her temple. He breathed his warm breath onto her cold body. She shivered,"Ebony," she whispered, the soft word barely audible, even to his enhanced hearing. Rumbling softly within his chest, he nuzzled her arm tenderly. Yes little one. I'm here. he murmured gently. She calmed with knowing he was so near, and fell back into a relaxed slumber. Extending his mind to touch Phal's, he murmured the healing words of power. He felt her neck wound close, and the relief that came with it. Satisfied, he then tended to his stomach, neck, and ribs. After only a few moments, he was completely healed, and only slightly fatigued from the large use of magic. But he was exhausted from the battle within him. Laying his head down wearily, he studied the form of Felecia-mate-Mesaraih. He seemed confused, unsure of where he was, or who he was; acting very unlike himself. He sleepily shuffled it away for him to examine later. His eyes drifted lower and lower, and his breathing gradually became slower. Re: Evil Amongst Allies Fenirexes spread his wings to take off from the dark city of Uru'baen, but neither he nor his companions noticed the black, slimy substance that jumped like a parasite and clung to one of his spikes, hitching a ride with Fenirexes to the grove where Mesaraih and Felecia lay. Fenirexes landed down wearily and looked at Mesaraih. He looked absent of much thought, as well as confused. Then, suddenly, the black slime jumped off Fenirexes and flew at Mesaraih's mouth.
Mesariah eyed it with an almost curious expression, then realized it must not be something very good, so he tried to get rid of it but it was too late. The parasite went inside his mouth and he felt it sticking to his body. Feeling sick, he felt like throwing up, but then, quite against his will, he muttered strange words that he did not recognize and his hand moved up to create a strange projection of light. Inside the projection was Galbatorix, smiling in a devilish way. "Hmph. After you thought this was over," he said, laughing. Suddenly, Mesaraih's memories flooded back and he looked at Galbatorix with disgust. "What the hell did you do to me?" he asked. Galbatorix only laughed. "Repeat after me. I will follow Galbatorix's order without question or resistance." The last part was said in the ancient language. Mesaraih refused to do so, but then the parasite inside him pushed at his mind with an intense force that he had never felt before. He yelled out in pain, then slowly, found himself wording out Galbatorix's oath. He slowly finished the sentence. And thus, he was bound to Galbatorix. "Now come to me in my citadel," he said. "I shall remove my wards for a short time so you can pass, and lend you the power to get here." Mesaraih felt a strange rush of dark magic, and trying to resist but failing, he used it to create a portal. He stepped into it and appeared in front of Galbatorix's throne. "I have a special task I need completed, and you're perfect for the job," Galbatorix said, smiling. Fenirexes saw with horror as the events unfolded before him, and he tried yelling into Mesaraih's head, but it was completely blocked off. As he tried to prevent Mesaraih from uttering Galbatorix's oath, he found himself immobilized in place. He growled in fury as he helplessly watched Mesaraih disappear. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal landed gracefully beside Ebony and Fenirexes, and quickly through her own energy into the black's healing spell. For future reference, I can heal myself. But thank you, she said with a smile as he went to lay down. She jerked herself around in alarm when she felt a sudden jump in dark magic. Something was happening to Mesaraih, and Phal saw the lump of dark slimy substance within his body, fighting for control.
She hissed when she heard Galbatorix's voice, and her hiss turned to a low growl when the substance forced Mesaraih to comply. She watched as the rider opened a portal and disappeared within it. Phal felt a shudder ripple down her length as she forced herself not to follow. Any attempt to chase after him would be suicide, for she could see where the portal led. Felecia! Mesaraih was attacked by Galbatorix's darkness! Re: Evil Amongst Allies Ebony was the first to respond. Snapping his angrily flashing eyes open, he leaped toward Mesaraih. But he was to late. By the time he landed, the red Rider had already disappeared. He bared his fangs in rage, and his black scales f-lickered scarlet. Turning back to his Rider, he saw she was up and really ticked off. He soothed her through their connection, and slowly her ruffled wings lowered until they were snuggly folded behind her.
---------------- Seething with her anger, Felecia was prepared to fly straight to Uru'baen and torture Galbatorix until he agreed to release her mate. Her companion entered her mind, and against her iron hard will, she reluctantly calmed,"I can see that. Fenirexes, can you sense that he is okay? If that leprous son of a jackal has laid one finger on Mesaraih, I'll skin him alive. Re: Evil Amongst Allies Fenirexes nodded. He's fine, for now... he trailed off, angry at Galbatorix beyond any rage he had felt in his life. Still, he managed to keep his head cold. Sometimes, he wondered why Mesaraih had a such a short temper and he was so calm. But when those thoughts started to bring back memories, he shut them away quickly. He had to focus on the task at hand.
Back in Galbatorix's citadel, Galbatorix was talking to Mesaraih. "Do you happen to remember that plan of mine that you and your annoying friends foiled, back in that small town? It was such a long time ago... and you thought you had rid yourself of my crystal. If only you had realized that it was indestructable," he said with a small laugh. Mesaraih only glared at him, then said, "Then where did it go. Seemed pretty disintegrated to me." Galbatorix laughed. "No, it just disappeared and reappered in a different location. My spies have finally located it. I need you to retrieve the crystal for me and return it. Sounds simple, eh? Not quite. The crystal can only be obtained by the last person who 'destroyed' it. You." "Still sounds simple," Mesaraih said. Galbatorix laughed once more. "Hehe... I wasn't quite finished. It didn't exactly reappear in a tree hollow, where you could easily find and return it to me. It's in a place inside the Spine. I'll give you a map that will lead to it. Be prepared for anything when you reach this place... ah, I almost forgot. Your dragon will be able to pick up your location when you exit here. I'll give you some speed to reach your destination... but it will only last for a while, for it will get weaker and weaker the farther you go away from this... place. Now go," Galbatorix said, gesturing with his hand towards the exit. Mesaraih quickly got away from the place as soon as he could, feeling a strange sensation go through him as he exited the walls of Galbatorix's city. As he walked away, he realized that the land next to him was passing by at an unnaturally fast pace. He was going at approximately half the speed a dragon could fly, just by walking. He tried running, and soon he could almost imagine he was on Fenirexes' back. He thought it would be best to get away from his dragon. He wasn't ready to confront his friends yet. _________________

Her wings carried her swiftly to the city, and in only a few minutes she was within view of its dark towers. A figure, moving at unnatural speeds for a two-leg, came out of the city. It was Mesaraih. Fenirexes, I see him! He is still far away, and moving as fast as a dragon's flight! Some magic is propelling him! she cried, watching the rider pick up speed to even more supernatural levels. She glanced back to the red dragon. I am fast enough to catch up to him, shall I go? she asked, already speeding up. If Mesaraih moved much faster, a dragon would not be able to lessen the distance between them by much. However, she knew she was fast; her large wings, very smooth scales, and extensive practice put her amongst the swiftest dragons.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Felecia didn't even wait to mount up on her dragon. Leaping into the air, she laboriously kept up with Phalynx. Hovering beside the silver dragon, she eyed the moving blur. He indeed was going fast. And also heading toward the Beor mountain's. Squinting, she flew higher to get a better view. Half closing her wings, she dove vertically to gain speed. Urgency behind her touch, she stretched her mind out to his. She could barely brush against his conscienceness, but she knew he could feel her. I'm here. she whispered, unsure if Mesaraih would be able hear her.
---------------- Ebony snarled and jumped forward, driving his wings down with a ferocity that surprised him. He followed close behind the silver dragoness, but his wing arms ached from trying to match her breakneck pace. Smoke roiled from his nostrils as he growled, his eyes flashing void black with his intense anger. He could feel Reona battering against the cage he had created, slowly weakening the bars. He knew the evil dragon would get out again sooner or later. He hoped it was later. Focusing his eyes, he saw Mesaraih speeding along easily at the pace of a dragon in full flight. Knowing that if he continued to increase his pace, Phalynx wouldn't be able to catch him, despite her great speed. Quickly touching the Ancient Dragons, he asked for help. They agreed to give him what he wanted. Catching up with the star dragoness, he touched her right flank. Light energy flowed from his muzzle onto her body, seeping across her scales and encasing her wings with power. The ancients agreed to help you fly faster. If Fenirexes says for you to go, they will allow you to catch up with Mesaraih. he said to her alone, backing off again to hover in the air. Re: Evil Amongst Allies Mesaraih ignored the fact that he was being closely followed. He turned back but once and knew that eventually, they would catch up to him. Growling, he turned around and drew his sword, flames igniting on it. He had little spirit, however. He doubted that he could do much against three dragons. He merely stood there, waiting for them to catch up to him.
Fenirexes nodded, but before that he saw Mesaraih stopping. Fenirexes quickly dived in towards him with everyone else. As he landed, Mesaraih started to speak. "Why are you guys trying to stop me? Galbatorix sent me on a mission, and he made me swear oaths. I can't break them now, so there's nothing you can do. Either leave me alone or help me, but if you try to stop me you'll only be hurting me," he said. Fenirexes stared at his Rider barely recognizing him. It was not like Mesaraih to be so resignated. Mesaraih looked back into the eyes of his dragon with a hard expression. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal was about to reply to Ebony, when Mesaraih turned and skidded to a stop, his sword drawn. She shook her head. I guess we don't need to catch him any more. What does he think he is doing? she said, her voice low. She circled once above Mesaraih and Fenirexes, who had just landed before him, and then stooped into a dive of her own. Phal arched her wings just before hitting the ground and beat them rapidly to alight, stirring up a cloud of dust. She had landed next to Mesaraih, at about the same distance as Fenirexes. She frowned as the rider spoke. We will help you Mesaraih, but not in the way you speak. Oaths can be rewritten, she said, her voice cold. Galbatorix had obviously forced Mesaraih to complete some unsavory task, and she was worried about what exactly that was.

As she neared the earth, she backpedaled rapidly until she alighted gently in front of Mesaraih, maybe four feet in away from him. She was wary of the sword that he held beside him. What oath had Galbatorix made him take? Stepping forward, she held her hands out in entreaty,"I will help. Either with your forced mission or with some other method, tell me how I can assist you and I will. The faster you get this damn trip done and over with, the faster I can get you away from that son of a jackal." she said, sapphire eyes narrowed to savage slits.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Mesaraih turned to look at Phalynx. "Yeah, maybe, maybe not. But now's not the time. He wants me to get some crystal for him, full of power from people he drained. I'm not sure what he wants to do with it, but it can't be good. I just want to get it, then maybe try to figure a way out of this.... I just want to get to that crystal... the crystal..." he said, trailing off. That crystal... why was he thinking about it so much? It almost felt as if the crystal was calling to him...

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal listened to Mesaraih, glad that at least he wasn't acting evil or brainwashed. He still could be, but she wanted to think that her friend was still there. However, that raised an uncomfortable issue: if Mesaraih was really himself, then why wasn't he working harder to find another way out of this? As he finished his explanation, Phal snorted. A solution had already formed in her mind. If this crystal was what Galbatorix wanted, and what bound Mesaraih to his word, then obviously it was a threat. They could destroy it, and then Mesaraih would not have to return it to the mad king. If he didn't return, he would not have to succumb to any more vows or oaths, if that was the only one.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Mesaraih looked up at Phalynx. "Look, I just want to go get the crystal, but he never said I had to return it right after I got it. I wasn't planning on returning it to him just yet," he said, smiling slightly and hoping that the silver dragoness would agree to help him. He looked over his shoulder, almost as if he could see the crystal from this distance.
Fenirexes looked at Mesaraih, wondering what was going through his mind. The best thing to do seemed to just help him out, at least in this part. But if he tried to betray them, they would have to stop him there. _________________

Was this the only oath Galbatorix made you swear, to get this crystal? she replied, adding a question of her own. Mesaraih could lie, but she hoped he would not. He still seemed like her friend, despite the vow he was under. She motioned with her wing to the rider after his reply, signalling it was time to move. As she did, she very briefly brushed her mind to Fenirexes, Ebony, and Felecia. If Galbatorix wants this crystal so much, it is a threat. When we find it, I will try to destroy it, she said to them, keeping her plan a secret from Mesaraih. Though he was a friend, if he knew what she was planning he might be forced to try to stop her from coming. It was a hindrance she could do without.

You may, Fenirexes said, extending his wings. Mesaraih climbed on his dragon's back, then took off as they flew away. I'll tell you where to go, Mesaraih said, as they flew on and towards the Spine. It wouldn't take them too long to get there. Alright, I'm just gonna warn you guys to be prepared for anything when we get there, he said. Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal nodded at Mesaraih's reply, and picked her wings up slightly, ready to fly. When everyone was ready, she bolted off into the air. Be careful with Reona, Ebony, and stay safe. We may not meet again for a long time, she said to the dragon as he voiced his desire to stay. Reona would cause no end of problems, no doubt. She watched as Fenirexes allowed Mesaraih to ride and took off as well. She snorted at Mesaraih's warning, thinking over the countless dangerous places she had been in her life. As dangerous as this place was, it probably wouldn't be nearly as much so for her as a few places she remembered quite vividly.

Be careful, little one. he murmured to Felecia. He wondered if she even heard him. -------------- Felecia zoomed into the air and flew easily beside Fenirexes, keeping a close eye on Mesaraih. She took no heed of his warning, but kept a steady pace beside the red dragon, never wavering for a moment. Within her mind, she called out to Zana,"I have need of you, my friend." she murmured into the dark. The ancient Shade appeared in front of her,"What is it, Felecia? I sensed most of what happened, but did not understand it." said Zana, shoulder length brown hair slightly mussed up. Felecia quickly explained, ending with,"If it comes to it, I want you to take over and protect Raih, Fen, and Phal." she said, sapphire eyes pleading for help. Zana smiled, light brown eyes dancing,"My precious friend, you know you have but to ask, and I would give my life to anyone you told me to. Of course I will do as you request. Now go; I can sense your losing height." she said, suddenly disappearing. Felecia came back to reality and beat her wings, again rising to fly beside Fenirexes. She felt better now that she had asked for Zana's help; the ancient Shade could wield magic that would kill the best elf magicians. IC .::. Fenirexes beat his wings at a steady place, carrying them towards their destination. He looked up at Mesaraih every few minutes, wondering what was going through his head. Mesaraih seemed to be blocking off his thoughts right now, and it bothered him. Mesaraih looked up ahead with a thoughtful expression on his face. Yet again, he thought that something did not feel right. He felt as if once again, he was heading into a trap, but this time it was different. It was a strange mixture of knowing the answer and solution was ahead, but it was hidden beneath a trap that he might not survive. The whole way, these troubling thoughts ran through his head, until finally the Spine was in view. Then he took out the map and slowly told Fenirexes in which direction they were to go. They were going to the northeast corner of Alagaesia, close to the border of the northern icelands. He frowned. He had actually never been in that exact area before, so he was not sure what he would find. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phalynx trailed Fenirexes, flying slightly above and behind him and Mesaraih. She watched over her friends and the space ahead, thinking about what could wait for them. As Mesaraih took out his map, she listened to where they were supposed to go. She grinned as she realized she had been in the area before. Not the exact place, but in a general enough region to know where it was. I know where that is; I've been in the region, if that helps, she called down, her wings beating a little faster in anticipation. The mountain range was already before them, laid out like the jagged teeth of a great predator.

IC .::. Mesaraih slowly tensed his muscles in anticipation as they neared their destination. Even here, the chilling wind from the North came in to deliver a deathly cold. He shivered slightly as the air bit into his face. Finally, it seemed they had arrived. He got off Fenirexes' back and looked around. Well, this is it... he said uncertainly. There was nothing here except the natural ladscape of the mountains. No pine tree or pile of snow seemed suspicious. What the hell...? he thought. Then, Mesaraih felt a chill run over throughout his whole body that had nothing to do with the cold. Then, also against his will, a great fear started to seep inside him. What is this place? he thought, looking around and trying to see what could be going on. Nothing. Dead silence. Then the landscape around them seemed to start to blur and fade. He squinted and thought for a moment that it might be an illusion, and when he sensed the magic he thought it must be, but something else was not right. Then, all of a sudden, the forest disappeared and they were thrown into a dark and strange place that he felt was slightly familiar. The surroundings were bathed in a low, purplish light from two red moons overcast with dark clouds veined with purple. There were ruins around them, but he didn't recognize any of them. The ground was covered in a fog similar to the clouds, rippling with a strange purple energy that gave off an eerie light. He didn't think this was Alagaesia anymore. Somehow they must have transported... but then again if they hadn't, they would probably not be able to get the crystal. Before he could have another thought, however, several dark figures rose from the ground, each one of them a clone of themselves but with strange red markings all over their bodies. Mesaraih quickly rushed out to meet his, and found that it was not very strong. It had his his same speed and powers, but in strength it was only about half. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phalynx flew after the rest, keeping her eyes on their surroundings. This area was vaguely familiar. She had passed by much of the land of the Spine, so it was likely she had come near here in a pass. When they approached the location, she noticed a strange disturbance in the magic of the area. They landed, and Phal stared around, trying to pinpoint the disturbance. Suddenly, the oddity grew and formed into a portal. It was a strange portal, though. It's components were more faded and misty, and less like a tear or rip. Nevertheless, they were swallowed into it. Phal had just enough time to notice that the portal was laced with a strange dark magic.
She blinked as they entered the strange world, immediately curious and on edge. This place was dark, and the purplish energy reminded her of the purple-blue lightning-like energy rippling through the Shadow Realms. Re: Evil Amongst Allies Felecia landed beside Fenirexes, and stood easily as they were somehow transported to the dark world. A dark firgure approached her, dark wings extended behind it. Hmm. That's something I never thought I'd see with another being beside myself. she thought to herself as she settled into a crouch. The figure stepped forward and slashed at her chest, almost touching the scar. She leaped back, surprised she hadn't been able to move sooner. She drew her black Rider's sword and blocked a death stroke. The dark wings heaved forward, driving her back. She brought her own up, blocking the powerful thrust of air. She opened the light brown canopy, only to have to drive them down so she could leap over the figure. As she flew over, she twisted her sword to the side, cleaving the head from the body. The decapitated trunk thudded to the ground mere seconds before the head.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Mesaraih sidestepped to the side and slashed down against his dark clone with as much power as he could muster. The sword flew out of his opponent's hands and he finally struck in to stab him in the inside. He looked around. It seemed everyone else had disposed of all the enemies. He was about to ask if everyone was okay when suddenly another dark figure rose from the shadows.
Rezekiel looked around at the group, slightly surprised to see such a gathering. "Well, you guys do seem to be in a bad situation. Hopefully you find a way to get out soon, because if you don't..." he trailed off, laughing softly. A reddish glow came from the interior of his black robes. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal continued staring around, trying to see every part of this world that she could. It was very strange and dark, and she wondered if it had been influenced by the Shadow Realm. It wouldn't surprise her, at least. The energy looked to be of the same nature. She looked at her friends as Mesaraih and Felecia disposed of a few dark forms. Before long, another figure appeared from the shadows. He was vaguely familiar, and Phal wondered who he was for a moment. She tilted her head, perplexed, when he spoke. He was obviously giving out some kind of threat, but she wasn't sure if it was just a warning about the place, or a threat of something he would do.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Felecia growled, deep and threatening. The sound was unnatural for an elf to make, but she was getting angry. Most of her friends (especially her dragon), knew what she was like when angered. She took a step forward toward the man in black,"If you have come only to taunt us, I doubt you will get anywhere. I'm about as pissed as I'll ever be, and not getting any better." she snapped, not in the mood to play word games.

But if you don't get out of this place soon, those clones will keep coming, and every time they do, they'll get stronger little by little, until they surpass you," he said.
Mesaraih looked at Rezekiel. Busy with something else, eh? "And what exactly are you busy with?" he asked. Rezekiel reached inside his cloak and took out a red crystal. "This," he said softly. Mesaraih stared at it, shocked. "But that's... hey, you've got to give me that, it's what we were looking for," he said. Rezekiel laughed once more. "Really? How inconvenient. I hope you don't need it too badly, because I'm very interested in it at the moment," he said, and started to walk away. "Come back here!" Mesaraih shouted at him, running towards him. Rezekiel moved his arm up next to him and a dark wave of black energy blasted Mesaraih back. "Don't even try," he said, more coldly now. "You can't defeat me here." _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phalynx gave a low growl of warning as Mesaraih was flung backwards and hit the ground. Even if he alone can't defeat you, do you really think you can escape all of us? she whispered threateningly, gesturing with one long silver wing to her companions. To illustrate her point, the light around her scales suddenly flared up, and the purple-black energy crackled and deflected to the sides as if blown by a powerful gust of wind. She let the glow darken slightly, and the dark mist curled back in. I can follow you anywhere; the darkness will not stop me. And Mesaraih will get the crystal, as a result, she warned. If the man teleported away, she could follow him through the portal. Darkness could not hide him, either. This was too important, and she could not let him escape her sight. She was still planning on destroying the crystal to help her friend, and she wouldn't allow a small threat to stand in her way.

Her wings unfurled as golden flames licked at her irises,"And I will rip you to unrecognizable shreds if you hurt Mesaraih again." she snarled, flapping her wings to float over to her mate. She made sure he was alright, then helped him stand. She smiled, then her figure blurred. When she came into focus, light brown eyes peered at the smoky landscape, and dark brown shoulder length hair swirled as a light breeze touched it.
Zana crossed her arms,"You are not the only one that can control the dark magics, Rezekiel. I am a Shade. Rezekiel turned back as everyone seemed determined to stop him. He looked at the silver dragoness first. "I'm not sure if I could kill you all just like that in an all out battle... you three do seem to be pretty powerful. But I can escape, and it doesn't matter how far you follow me... this crystal will remain in my possession," he said. Then he turned to the newly appeared Shade. "It doesn't really matter. Your magic and mine are distinct. I am not a Shade, and there is a difference between dark magic and black magic." _________________

She turned back to Rezekiel, eyeing him and the crystal very carefully. She snorted at his words. You really think to escape a dragon? And one who can follow you anywhere? The crystal will not remain in your possession for long. Why do you need it, even? she replied, her eyes narrowing at her question. What was so special about this crystal, that Rezekiel was willing to put himself at risk to keep it, and Galbatorix was willing to go to such great lengths to get it? The more information she got, the more she decided that it was a threat and had to be destroyed or disposed of.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Mesaraih looked back a little as his two friends announced threats of their own. He merely readied himself to fight and see what Rezekiel would do next.
Rezekiel gave a small smile. "I don't need it, but it seems to be interesting enough to experiment... I won't let you ruin the possibility of a good... discovery," he said, talking very slowly. He turned back to Zana, rolling his eyes. This Shade was starting to get on his nerves. "How bothersome... am I really going to have to fight?" he asked. He turned away from them once more and continued walking forwards. "If you want the crystal... then you'll have to pry it away from me," he said. Mesaraih growled lowly and dashed towards Rezekiel, feinting to slash him straight from behind, but at the last moment jumped up and brought his flaming sword down with incredible speed. The blade was less than a centimeter from touching Reik when suddenly, his image vanished, only to reappear behind Mesaraih and punch him in the stomach with incredible force, sending him flying about ten feet away. Mesaraih quickly rolled upright again, coughing out blood. Rezekiel did seem to be more powerful in whatever this place was... but he doubted that even like that he would be able to withstand their combined resistance. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal glanced briefly at Zana when the shade added more threats, and then returned to her glare at Rezekiel. What connection did this man have to the dark magic, that this place made him more powerful? And what exactly was this place? How had it been overtaken by the shadows? When the man spoke again, Phal couldn't help but growl a little. The way he said "discovery" made it obvious that whatever would be discovered would not be beneficial to anyone except him. Mesaraih suddenly sprang after him, only to be knocked away when Rezekiel teleported. Phal was there in an instant, having jumped forward. She let out a thick stream of glowing starfire, which seared away the shadowy fog that had been closing in on Rezekiel. That crystal is too dangerous for anyone's experimentation. How do you know it will not kill you if you meddle with its power? Phal demanded of Rezekiel when the light of her flames dissipated.

Slanted eyebrows curved in a dangerous V, she marched right up to him,"Hurt him again and I'll make good my hosts threat." she hissed, her usually soft brown eyes flashing a cold black, and staying that hard, dark shade,"I will not let you continue to experiment with the crystal, either. You have no idea of the power you hold in your hand. If you delv too deep within its depths...there's no telling if you'll even make it back alive." she growled, though softer.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies "If you guys are trying to scare me from using the crystal, it's not working. And if you're concerned for my safety... then I am truly touched, but you don't need to worry. I know what I'm doing," he said, moving to walk away once more. "Oh, look. More clones. You'll find those a little more challenging than the last ones," he said.
Mesaraih looked at the ground, from which another identical figure to his was rising. It dashed towards him and Mesaraih parried its blow, realizing that it was much closer to his strength this time. "He's right," Mesaraih said. "We have to get to the crystal as soon as possible, because soon these things are gonna be stronger than us." He exchanged several blows with the clone, advancing little by little until he was finally able to make it lose balance and give him enough of an advantage to cleave its head off. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal snorted at Rezekiel's response. He was being very exasperating, and she wondered why nothing was every simple for her. Of course he had to make things difficult. She looked into the shadows and saw a dark draconic figure, sleek and wide of wing; it was her shadowy clone. She narrowed her eyes, which began to glow with a warm golden light, and opened her jaws. A powerful blast of starfire poured out and towards the dark clone, eradicating it in a cloud of dissipating mist. She knew they would get stronger, though, so they had to get the crystal as soon as possible. She looked back at Rezekiel and sent a stream of starfire at him as well, mostly out of annoyance.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Zana hissed as her shadow clone rose from the earth. Scooting forward, she deftly swiped her sword at its feet. As it tumbled to the ground, she made to cleave its head off. It ducked even lower as it fell, rolled, then popped back up. She lunged forward, catching it unawares with her suddeness. The torso fell to the ground a second before the legs. Beating her wings, she leaped over Rezekiel, flipped once, and landed facing him. She snarled, eyes flashing,"My clone will only get as strong as my host, so I'm pretty safe from it overpowering me. In the mean time, I'd like to try my luck with you, if you don't mind." she hissed, crouching low in preperation to spring in any direction.
----------------------- Reona hissed as he followed the troup, eager to catch up. His other side snapped at him harshly. Behave. The only reason I let you out is because your somewhat stronger than me in battle. Don't screw this up, or you can look forward to a long life behind bars in my mind. snarled Ebony, jabbing at his mind. The black dragon growled under his breath. Don't worry, I won't hurt your girl friend. Or the other red male. he replied, snickering. His other side hissed dangerously soft. Phalynx is not my mate, or girl friend as you put it. Don't mention it again. snarled the other black dragon. Reona quiled slightly from the anger he felt in Ebony. Very well, he said, looking below him. He could feel dark magic close, and sensed a spike in its activity. The black dragon flew lower, and was in time to see the star dragoness, red male, and winged elf disappear in a portal. He folded his wings and managed to slip inside before it closed. He zipped along, close to the ground. Soon the trio he had been following came into view, along with another man. He landed beside the silver, slanting her a glance as he settled his wings onto his back. Hello, miss me? Don't get your tail in a knot, I'm here to help. For now, he growled, turning away when a shadowy figure rose before him. He lifted an eyeridge, but quickly had to jump out of the way as it lunged forward, fangs bared. Flapping his wings, he leaped forward and onto its back. Baring his fangs, he latched onto the neck of the dragon beneath him. It squealed, then fell still as his serrated teeth cut its jugular. Re: Evil Amongst Allies Rezekiel looked over to Zana. "Are you deaf or something? It will get stronger every time, eventually surpassing your host, so it'll surpass you too. You may have a bit more time before your friends, but it'll all be the same," he said. He turned around and drew his sword, then jumped in the air, sending a flurry of quick slashes of black flames down on her.
Mesaraih jumped off from the ground towards Rezekiel, sword raised. Rezekiel turned over to block his attack and reataliated with a extreme speed. Mesaraih was just able to block the flurry of blows that Rezekiel was unleashing as they slowly descended from the air, steel ringing. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal watched suspiciously as Reona joined the group in the shadowed world, wondering what he was doing. She nodded slowly when he spoke, though her eyes were narrowed. If Ebony and Reona were forced together, then it made sense that the evil counterpart would not try to kill anyone anymore. It reminded her of how Aeraldi used to be, but she knew it was very far from the same; Aeraldi had not been good and evil, more of violent and peaceful; one dragons split in two. It was also similar to how Faefnir used to be, but his dark side was a part of his personality until it was split forcefully from him. She did not like the fact that so many of her friends seemed to be getting dark sides, and wondered if this was a side effect of their environments.
As Rezekiel attacked Zana and Mesaraih attacked him, Phal growled. She swatted at the man when his attention was focused on Mesaraih, sending him flying a short distance. She was glaring at him in annoyance. Re: Evil Amongst Allies Zana leaped out of the way as Rezekiel's fire balls flew down at her, but was to slow to dodge the last one. It slammed into her side, scorching through her light wieght leather armor with ease and nearly melting her sensitive skin. She rolled several feet to the side from the force of the impact, then slowly got up on her feet. Her right side burned and smoldered, but she paid it no heed.
-------------------- Reona growled and lowered his head as Rezekiel harmed the winged one. He could feel his other half cringe in shared pain, and he himself winced slightly. Hurt her again and I'll rip your guts out, he said softly, stepping over to nudge Zana tenderly on her uninjured side. She assured him she was fine, and he turned back to eye Rezekiel. His upper lip quivered gently as he snarled. I would also intend to agree with Phalynx. Three powerful dragons and two just as powerful Rider's? Re: Evil Amongst Allies Rezekiel eyed them all each in turn, then slowly nodded. "Indeed," he said, with a soft laugh. "Then I guess none of you can complain if... I make it a little more fair?" he asked. He bent down and put his hand on the ground, closing his eyes. Dark energy rushed up towards him in great waves, then, as suddenly as it had started, the flow stopped. A black ball of bloody black energy was revolving in his hand. The power in it could be sensed, but the ball was small, as if extremely compressed. He flicked it into the air and it expanded, starting to take the shape of a large beast. It was completely black and in the rough shape of a lizard, with long, sharp claws on its hand and feet. Then, just like that, they multiplied into four, each of them charging into a respective person. All right, they'll keep you busy for a while... and by then I'm pretty sure the added clones will bring you even more fun, he said into each of their minds. I hope that with this you realize... that in here you can't beat me. Even if it has to be with help, he said.
Mesaraih readied his sword as the creature charged at him. He was very wary of it, for it was sprinting towards him at an incredibly fast speed, much faster than even an elf. He quickly put his sword up as the creature swiped at him with the same speed. He was knocked back by the force of the blow. He jumped back a little to regain his footing and looked at the creature, who was not giving him any time to prepare. What the hell, this is going to be practically impossible to beat, he thought to himself. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phalynx snorted as the creatures took shape. Though they were powerful and contained great fighting-power, she was very unimpressed. Nice magic, but not good enough. And even if we can't defeat you here, we can still get the crystal through other means. And it won't even come to that; because you're wrong, she said very matter-of-factly. As one of the lizards started charging at her, Phal shook her head and gave several mightly flaps with her powerful wings. Her scales lit up at the same time, and the strong wingbeats stirred up her light magic, sending the shadowy fog twisting and gusting away. She lifted into the air and simply hovered over the lizard, far out of reach. Phal opened her jaws and a stream of starfire poured out and hit the lizard, who could do nothing about it. At the same time, she kept her senses alert should any more dark clones try to surprise her in the air.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Zana winced as several more shadow beings came into view, along with the clones. She glanced at the void black dragon, asking Reona permission to mount on his bare neck. He dipped his head quickly before snarling at a clone that got too close. Moving faster than the eye could see, she bounded over and leaped as high as she could to the juncture between his neck and shoulders. She landed squarely, but a little harder than she would have liked. She winced, but shook the pain away as she gripped with her knees. The powerful dragon beneath her reared up like a gigantic horse, then sprang up into the air.
---------------------- Reona hissed savagely as a clone threw a spear at the Rider on his back. He twisted, moving his body in an amazing manuver that allowed him to dodge the oncoming missile. The black dragon overlooked the battle from above; their side was hurting, but not as much as the darker parts. All of a sudden he was pushed aggressively down, rushing toward the ground with fatal speed. He turned his head up to gaze into the eyes that looked exactly like his. He snarled and roared black flames at the clone. He sensed Zana casting a powerful spell, and was momentarily caught off gaurd as his darker self flew off of him. Taking advantage of the shadow clones confusment, he rushed in and grasped it by the shoulders. He latched his jaws into the hollow of the dragons throat and shook viciously, cutting the jugular and breaking its spinal cord. He threw the carcass away even as it dissapated into smoke. He felt his Rider stroke him tenderly in praise, and prummed softly. IC .::. Fenirexes quickly burned out the creatures attacking him and Mesaraih and turned to Rezekiel again, nodding at Phalynx's words. Rezekiel turned around and felt a tinge of exasperation, particularly at the silver dragoness. Giving a long sigh, he conjured up a portal behind him. "I hope you're fast enough to get this crystal," he said, shaking it around in his hand before starting to slowly step inside the portal. Then, at the last moment, he only threw the crystal and kept himself with the others. He blocked off the portal while it closed off. "Do you know where it is?" he asked, laughing slightly. "As long as I can buy enough time, you're all going to fall to yourselves eventually," he said. "It's quite sad, but there's nothing I can do for you... unless you're interested in little deal?" he asked. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal finished off the lizard with ease. She was able to keep her attention on her surroundings, but no second clone of herself made an appearance. At least not yet. Her gaze snapped to Rezekiel when he spun the crystal around, a portal opened threateningly behind him. As he closed it, Phal snagged a thread of its magic and kept the connection alive. It wasn't enough for anything to get through, but it was just enough to keep a tab on the new location of the crystal. Hmph. I have not yet lost its location, and once you tell us this deal, I will simply go and get it myself. But first, I'm a little interested in what you have to say, Phal retorted, her voice containing only a hint of annoyance.

He, since he had been created with dark magic, could see a tiny line streaming from where the portal had been, to where the silver dragoness hovered. His eyes widened. He did not let this throw him, however. He growled menacingly. How I would love the feel of your flesh being ripped to shreds between my talons. But I, too, am willing to listen. he hissed.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Rezekiel looked around him, closing his eyes, laughing softly, and shaking his head all at the same time. "I'm telling you, don't provoke me here. You have no chance of defeating me, even with all of you, no matter how hard you try."
He looked curiously at the silver dragoness, who had somehow managed to keep the location of the crystal within her knowledge. Hm, this is interesting, he thought. "Anyways, it doesn't matter if you know where the crystal is or not. The point of this deal is for you to retrieve it. If you can, then you get to keep it. That's all there is to it. If you manage to do this, you can keep the crystal and I will be rid of a bothersome enemy," he said, eyes sparkling. "Are you willing to do it?" he asked. "Or will you just..." he trailed off, seemingly waiting for something. Then, quite unexpectedly and in the distance, a giant, monstrous roar shook the air, sounding like cries of the damned screaming along it. And in that distance, a gargantuan silhouette of a terrible creature loomed, and its red, furious eyes could be seen more clearly than anything else. "Give up?" Rezekiel finished finally, looking at them all once again with a soft smile. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phalynx snorted and shook her head at Rezekiel. She turned with narrowed eyes at the monstrosity behind them. When her head tilted back to face their opponent, a flash of magic swelled to life behind him. The thread of magic Phal had been gripping suddenly ballooned outwards to reform the portal. That won't be too difficult. We can simply go straight to wear you dropped it, she replied, her voice calm and filled with confidence. They didn't have to stay or fight anything, save what they met directly around the crystal. Phal dove about a dragonlength to get even with her recreated portal, preparing to fly into it.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Reona snarled as a new challenge came forward. His wingbeats faltered slightly when he saw its size. His eyes widened. Impossible, he murmured, true fear spiking his hide like needles. He turned to Fenirexes and Mesaraih and roared. Don't fight this thing! Go inside the portal with Phal! he bellowed. He saw Fenirexes's wariness to listen to him. Either listen to me and face what horrors are behind that portal, or die without question fighting that thing. I know its powers. Go! he howled, twisting out of the way as the monster took a swipe at him. He dove to follow Phalynx, beating his wigs to increase his falling speed.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Mesaraih looked up as the portal was recreated by Phalynx. "All right, we'll go through there," he said, motioning for everyone to follow after Phalynx as she started flying through it, slightly disconcerted at Reona's worriment.
Rezekiel gave a final laugh of amusement at the group. Apparently none of them had understood his true meaning. "Very well, then, go ahead. It seems that there's... nothing I can do to stop you." And with that, he disappeared into a portal of his own, reappearing at a tall mountain close to the giant creature where he could see its figure and all the beasts surrounding it. The gigantic creature itself was shaped roughly in a humanoid form, but with several differences. For one, it had four arms instead of two, and all of them had long, serrated claws. Its feet were also clawed, and on its back lay black, unfurled wings that stretched out to block out most of the view behind it. Its body did not seem to be made up of skin, but more of something similar to dripping black tar, and inside the waterfalls of it that cascaded around its body, blood red energy was veined evenly throughout, including the wings. The monstrous beasts that lay at its feet reached the bottom of the shin at most, and he predicted that even the dragons would not reach the knees of this creature in size. Large and winged creatures flew like crows around the beast, screeching out their rage and trying to instill fear. Rezekiel smiled, looking at the glinting red crystal that lay on top of one of the huge spikes that jutted out of the beat's head. Fenirexes flew in after Phalynx with Mesaraih on his back into the portal, wondering where it would take them and if they would have to fight to get the crystal back. As they exited the portal and into the army of creatures that lay in front of him, he did not worry too much. They seemed strong, but probably wouldn't pose much of a threat in the end. There was something strange in the scene, however. Two black waterfalls seemed to be falling in midair from nowhere. The winged creatures above screeched, sending a shudder through him and making him look up. As he did so, he realized what the waterfalls truly were, and the two red eyes that looked down with contempt at him seemed to be the laughing face of death. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phalynx had seen where the portal led just before she dove through, and only let out a small hiss, not deterred in the least. As soon as she emerged her wings snapped in and she executed a tight spiral up and to the right, shooting through a few tarry falls from one of the beast's arms. She pulled up and flew away, angling herself along the beast's back. Dozens of smaller flying beasts suddenly dove at her, swarming around her to stop her advance. She had seen the crystal, and knew where it was. Phal roared and arched her spine into a back-flip, swatting at the beasts with her tail and slashing at them briefly with her claws. She dove a few feet and then turned sharply up and to the left, letting out a blast of silver fire at the swarming creatures.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Reona howled in pain and fear as he entered the portal. The tar creature looked menacing enough from the air. He felt like a little hatchling again. He felt the other stir within him. What is that creature? asked Ebony, looking through the black dragon's right eye which had turned a bright gold. He shuddered. Galbatorix is tame compared to this thing. That's all I can say and the best way to describe it in my opinion. growled the black, his one black eye flashing with dark light. He barrel-rolled to the right and down to avoid a flying creature. He yowled as its talons slashed his back. Zana arched her back in shared pain before she healed the wound. He sighed in relief, then looked up. The jewel gleamed like a ruby, wedged beneath the horn of the tar beast. He snarled and beat his wings hard to gain height. The direction he was heading was suddenly changed when a beast slammed into him from underneath. He bared his fangs and snapped viciously at its neck. He grappled with it while still trying to maintain altitude, beating his wings savagely to stay aloft.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Mesaraih quickly jumped off Fenirexes' back and said, I'll try my best to weaken it from down here. You just try and snatch that crystal. Fenirexes nodded and quickly flew up, nearly vertically, looking around for any signs of danger. Suddenly, one of the flying creatures zoomed in from his left. Fenirexes quickly veered to the side and watched as the creatures impacted itself in the large beast's stomach.
Meanwhile, Mesaraih quickly fought his way through the beasts on the ground to reach the large one's feet. He shot several fireballs at the legs, watching as chunks of tar burned off and were almost instantly regenerated. The large beast gave a low rumble of amusement. In a growling, terrible voice, it said, "I am Korxx, one of the great powers of the Black Island. Your efforts are futile. There is nothing you can do to defeat me. If you're persistent enough, however, I may find it more fun to toy with you, which might give you a chance to escape..." _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phalynx gained more height, seeking to distance herself from the beast enough to get her bearings and get a small plan of action going. The flying creatures made it challening, but not enough to prevent her. A few tight rolls and direction-changes solved the problem. She paused for a moment, hovering, as the creature spoke. She frowned at its words, wondering at the meaning behind them. Surely escape would be easy; they could fly after all. Did this Korxx have some hidden power? There was something else that bothered her as well; it had identified itself as one of the Black Island's great powers. Were there more powerful entities in this land?
Phal quickly formed a flight path for getting closer to the crystal. It was lodged in a horn that was just solid enough to keep it from sinking. Phal didn't like the thought of touching the beast; it looked as if the substance would get on her or she'd get stuck in it. These images alone were unpleasant enough to keep her sudden dive cautious. She pulled out of the swoop a little sooner than usual to make sure she didn't come into contact with the beast, and let out a powerful blast of starfire. The light magic of the fire actually permanently burned away some of the tarry substance, but the huge size of the creature made her attack nothing more than a distraction. A few of the flying beasts had been incinerated, though, so Phal had a few seconds of clear space to think. How could they get that crystal without getting stuck on the creature? Re: Evil Amongst Allies Reona howled with triumph as he managed to best his foe, kicking the carcass of the beast away visciously before flapping up. He noticed Phalynx was diving at Korxx. He bellowed and came up to guard her flank. It was dangerous to fight alone with so many flying creatures about. Some were so small you wouldn't even know they were above/behind you until it was to late. He snatched a small bat-like creature from the air, crushing it between his serrated fangs. He spat the beast out in disgust, his muzzle wrinkled in dislike.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Mesaraih listened to the words of the creature, and for some reason, he found himself getting more confused than ever. What was this place? It seemed very similar to the Shadow Realm, but apparently it was not. And then, in a quite creepy manner, Korxx answered his question as if he had been listening to his thoughts. "This place and the Shadow Realms exist on the same plane, just like Alagaesia and lands beyond it exist on your own plane. We have our own world just as you do your own. We've been thus far the only other plane to be able to enter your world, and out world has been the only one disturbed by other planes as well, but only because we've broken into other planes."
Mesaraih had to pick each part of the sentence apart so that he could understand what the monster was talking about, but when he did, all he could do was hope that a beast of this magnitude never entered Alagaesia. Then, suddenly, he was disrupted from his train of thought as a whip of the beast's tarry substance lashed out at him, extending forward to try and stab into his heart. Mesaraih sidestepped it then cut it off, but it seemed to not be worth much, for soon, hundreds more were shooting out. He was hard pressed to fight against them all. "I'm growing bored," Korxx rumbled out, as he sent the same whips towards his other companions. Fenirexes, come pick me up. I can't do anything down here. Fenirexes heard and quickly swooped down low onto the ground, and Mesaraih jumped onto his back. Fenirexes spiraled around the beast's leg, shooting flames at it while Mesaraih fought off the whips of tar. The beast was so large, however, that more quickly covered up the wound within seconds, as if nothing had happened. They quickly gained height and were hovering next to Phalynx and Reona once more. "We need to find a way to lay some damage on this guy, at least enough to distract him. Any ideas?" Mesaraih asked everyone. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal angled her wings to fly alongside Reona, knowing that staying together would be safer amidst all these flying enemies. She let out another blast of starfire to singe away the edges of the creatures' flock, and a few dozen fell from the sky. She drew gradually closer to the location of the crystal, but the sheer numbers of creatures and thickness of the giant monster Korxx's spikes prevented her from continuing. Fenirexes and Mesaraih flapped up beside them, anxious about damaging the beast. This beast has to have some sort of weakness. My starfire can burn away some of it, but not nearly enough to have the kind of effect we want. Does it have any vulnerable spots? Perhaps a distraction would allow us to get the crystal. Once we have that we won't need to fight the creature any more, she said as she flew, still hurling silvery missiles at the flying beasts that swooped down upon them.

The dark magic that was used to create me will protect me from too much harm. he said, snapping his tail like a whip. He turned his gaze to Phalynx; one eye black as a void and the other bright as shimmering gold. Can you carry Zana on your back? The dark magic in Korxx would destroy her, despite her Shade qualities. he said, his heart beginning to race in antisipation.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Fenirexes looked over at Reona, then back at the crystal. For a few moments, he stayed silent. Alright, he said. I have an idea. Reona, you and me are gonna distract this thing. We don't have to harm it, we just have to distract it enough to get the crystal. We're gonna be in its face the entire time, breathing fire or something to block its view. Meanwhile, Phalynx will try and grab the crystal. He looked around at each of them in turn. You guys think you can do it? he asked.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal listened to Reona and nodded, thinking it would work. I can carry Zana. But would she rather go with me or be part of the distraction? she asked. She nodded at Fenirexes, thinking his addition to the plan helpful. Yeah I can get the crystal. Zana, where do you want to go? she asked, this being the last thing to decide before setting off. If Zana wanted to help distract, she could ride with Fenirexes. If she wanted to help Phal, that could work too. The silver dragoness was already picking a pathway through the tangle of spikes on the beast's back, looking for the best way to get to the crystal without getting caught on the tarry protuberances.

I will stay with Phalynx." she said, and with a single beat of her wings had lifted herself from his back. She floated over to the star dragoness and settled on the females neck where the saddle would normally sit. The black male snorted, then turned to Fenirexes. Okay, let's go. he growled, sweeping his wings back to shoot him forward.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Fenirexes nodded and took a deep breath before launching himself towards Korxx's face. Mesaraih was still on his back, but through his connection he already knew what he had in mind. Knowing that Mesaraih could fare without him, he let him jump off his back. He didn't know how he was going to survive the fall, but something in the confidence in Mesaraih's mind told him not to worry. Determined to get the crystal, he finally reached the glowing red eyes of Korxx. They were almost as big as he himself. He quickly reared his head up and then pulled it forward, letting out as large a torrent of flames as he could so Korxx would not be able to see.
Meanwhile, Mesaraih was freefalling to the ground with increasing speed. The exhiliration of the fall was tremendous, but he did not forget what he was doing. With a slight scowl on his face, he spread his arms out and readied them for his following action. He had already spotted the clowns of each of them, and although he did not know how, they were all being crushed under a talon of the giant Korxx. He lit his sword up in flames and intensified them to as much heat as he could muster. Then, when he was about to reach the ground, he slashed it down against the talon and felt it go deep into the claw. At first, it seemed it wouldn't go all the way down, but it reatarded his fall and was just able to slice off the talon, releasing the clone of himself but not of the others. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal nodded and briefly extended her wings, cupping them against the air so that she could soar. It would be much easier for Zana to get on that way. When the shade was on her back near the base of her neck, Phal beat her wings and pulled higher, getting above the giant beast. She flew so that her back was to the beast, so that none of the smaller creatures could surprise her. While her friends began the distraction, the silver waited. The smaller beasts were headed toward Fenirexes and Reona, ignoring Phal in her little gap between Korxx's spikes. Keep your grip tight, Zana. There are going to be some very tricky turns, even for me. Once most of the little creatures are away, I'll start heading for the crystal, she warned, eyes flashing forward to where the crystal was, tucked in almost a webwork of tarry spines. Getting stuck in them, or crashing into them with too much force, could mean death for Phal. Even her flight skills would be challenged in there.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Reona corkscrewed around Fenirexes to end up in front of Korxx's other eye. He instantly began to flame into it, and his dark magic energy code made the fire burn all the hotter for the gigantic creature.

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Mesaraih quickly ran up the side of a steep, rocky mountainside that was practically barren. His clone was following, and from what he could tell he was already equal in speed and strength. Mesaraih continued running until he reached the point he had reached the peak. There, he waited for his clone to catch up to him and dueled briefly with him, impressed by the staggering equality of his opponent on all aspects. Then, he jumped in the air and sent a concentrated beam of red fire against his clone, who responded to it by doing the same. The collision caused an explosion that blew them both backwards and shook the peak of the mountain. Once the battle grew more intense, he could execute his plan. Hopefully by then, Phalynx had already obtained the crystal.
Meanwhile, Korxx put a hand up to block their attacks from hitting his eye too much and tried to slap them out of the air, but Fenirexes flew to the side to avoid it and continued to rain fire down on Korxx's face, despite the projectiles of sludge that his enemy was now sending at them. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phalynx waited, watching her friends battle the giant monster and pour fire down on its face. When it raised a hand to block their attacks, she began her part. She was flying swiftly toward Korxx's back with steady, powerful flaps of her wings. She wanted to build up speed before she came to the area thickly covered in spikes, so that if she tightened her wingspan she would not lose too much lift. If she went in too fast, though, she would not be able to turn quickly enough to avoid hitting the spikes. Luckily, Phal had an instinct for such matters, and knew when to keep her speed steady. A swift blast of starfire cleared the way before she dove into the spiky area. The smaller flying beasts were driven off for now, and she could deal with the tight turns and angles of her flightpath.
Phal twisted her body sharply to avoid deadly collisions with the creature's almost tangled spines. Her powerful tail was in constant motion, directing her path with rapid movements to the side. She pressed her wings much closer to her body so that they formed almost a triangular shape; she could not widen them more or she would risk getting them caught or broken on a spine. The crystal was nestled in the most tangled area, so Phal could not have flown down toward it. She had to fly along Korxx's back to reach it. ------------------- Reona hovered back and forth, spewing black flames into Korxx's eye. He was not looking out for tendrils of tar. The gooey substance latched onto his lowerbelly and oozed around his body like glue. He snapped at it savagely, blew flames on it, until it finally broke away. The goo still clung to him, but he could manage. He flew back up and continued to belch whithering fire out. He was unaware that the tar was slowl inching its way up his body to cover him in a sticky wrap. OOC: Ever seen Spider-Man 3? IC .::. Fenirexes continued to dodge around Korxx's attacks, which were becoming relentless, faster, and stronger. It seemed that when the beast started to gain momentum it became a lot tougher. If he could find a way to upset it, but there were no attacks on their arsenal powerful enough to do that kind of damage to it. Gaining inspiration, he flew as close as he dared in Korxx's face and blew fire relentlessly on it. He waited until Korxx brought his hand around to try and smack him away before flying to the side to avoid the onslaught of tar. He did not escape unscathed, since some of it got stuck on his wing, but he was able to shake it all off. When he turned around, he saw that Korxx's fist had crashed into itself, upsetting its momentum and even its balance a little. He only hoped that Phalynx would not be upset by the slight movement of Korxx's body. Mesaraih continued to fight his equally matched clone, looking over at Phalynx every now and then to see how far she had gotten to the crystal. The rocks around them started to shake harder as he ducked under his clone's heavy slash. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phal continued her rapid flight, feeling her tail start to ache with all the effort she was putting into directing it. All of the exertion in steering would make her extremely sore tomorrow, that was for sure. She hissed in surprise as Korxx shifted. She gave tiny flaps of her pulled-in wings, desperately correcting her flight so as not to crash into his tarry spikes. Luckily, she was able to stay on course, though she had lost more height than she liked. They were only just past halfway, and she was worried that she would lose too much height to get the crystal safely. She bared her teeth, unwilling to allow that to happen. Her friends couldn't distract the monstrous beast forever; she had to get the crystal. Phal allowed herself to give a few more small flaps to gain more height. Though it made steering more difficult for a few moments, she needed to get clear of Korxx's back. The scales on the back of her neck suddenly prickled. Something's on our tail, Zana, Phal warned, not able to look back and see what it was.

Phalynx started losing height, and instantly she boosted the silver forward with a burst of magic. The elder Shade chanced a look back at the dragoness's warning. You just concentrate on flying; I'll take care of this. she said, spinning in place so she faced Phalynx's tail. She gripped with her legs as she released the spike in front of her to raise her hands. The creature following them was big, muscular, and fast. She shot balls of flame at it; out of five, only one hit.
------------------ Reona grit his teeth. Korxx had sliced him with a talon all the way from his shoulder to nearly the very tip of his tail. The wound ached horribly, an seeped crimson blood down his side and in a near waterfall down to the ground. He would not last much lunger. His one golden eye flashed with power. It will not end here. That I promise you. growled Ebony. The void black warrior bared his fangs and arched his neck as the long gash along his body was slowly closed. His counter-part was healing him! Soon all that remained of the horrific wound was a gnarled scar running his length. He rumbled in his chest in gratitude, then returned his attention to Korxx. Fire wasn't doing much to distract him. IC .::. Fenirexes looked at Korxx uncertainly. He seemed to have a different demeanor all of a sudden. He had relaxed a little and was letting them advance towards the crystal much faster and easier. He looked at his right arm and saw that it was slowly being raised to the sky. Fenirexes watched as his finger pointed to the sky and it suddenly opened up. Waves of lava started to come down, not enough to engulf them, but they would have to constantly be looking up to maneuver out of their way. With his left hand, Korxx started to send spearlike pieces of his tar towards them, and these he now just started to noticed. Phal... he's bringing out his final tricks. I think we should just rush in and try to get the crystal once and for all. The longer we have to try to dodge all this the more danger we'll be in, he said to her. Mesaraih looked over to everyone else trying to get to the crystal. They were near enough so that he could do what he intended to. Ducking under another slash from his clone, he kicked him so he would fly back a few feet. He knew he would recover quickly and rush at him once more, but it was all the time he needed. He concentrated all his power onto his sword, and it glowed red before deadly-looking pure red flames started to lick the blade. He had closed his eyes during this process, and as he heard his clone approaching he opened them and saw that he had done the same. He smiled and prepared to clash once again. Every time their swords met, flames would erupt all over, making the rocks around them shake harder. Slowly, the top of the rocky mountain would not stop trembling. He quickly did a backflip and came down upon his clone with all the force he could muster, charging his sword with as much power as he could. His clone dodged to the side to avoid the blow. Smart decision for him, Mesaraih thought. But unfortunately for Korxx, it won't make a difference, he thought smugly. The blade came down upon the rocks and made a large explosion on it. Several large boulders flew in all directions, then the mountainside trembled more violently than ever. All of a sudden, everything gave way and started to tumble down. Gigantic rocks rolled down in heaps, and Mesaraih and his clones were caught up in the ride. They couldn't really fight anymore, as all their efforts were focused on getting to the topmost rocks so they wouldn't be crushed. Korxx was not paying attention to the mountainside that would fall on him from behind soon. _________________

 IC: Phalynx was relieved when Zana bolstered her with magic, giving her more height. She now had plenty of time to get to the crystal. She forced herself to ignore the shade's fight with whatever was chasing them and continue on, darting through the tangle of spikes. At Mesaraih's words, she made a decision. I'm almost there! I didn't want to use a ton of energy doing this, but I think it's time. I'll have the crystal in a few moments, she called back. Her light magic could protect her from the tarry stuff as long as she didn't get too immersed in it, but she knew one form of radiation that would ensure her protection. Zana, can you create some sort of mirror-like ward that will surround you completely? It's time we got the crystal, and there's only one move I have left, she asked the shade. Phal would easily be able to manipulate her ward into mirroring her own gamma radiation, which she would soon be using. She had used this move once before, bolstering the gamma rays from her body in order to blast through something. It didn't take as much energy as her two gamma ray attacks, but it would leave her weakened. But they needed the crystal now. Yay!lol IC: Zana glanced back as Phalynx asked, still sending blasts of magic to whatever was tailing them. Yes I can. Hold on a sec... she murmured, turning back to focus on the beast following them. She sent a wave of magic out to it, knocking it back and off balance so it crashed into one of Korxx's spines. She closed her eyes and muttered an incantation, concentrating hard. The ward erected itself around her, shimmering and nearly invisible to the human eye. She swayed from the drain of the complex shield, but quickly recovered. She spun in place so she faced forward again. Alright, the ward is up. she informed the silver calmly, holding on tightly to the spike in front of her. - - - - - - - - - - Reona snarled and expertly dodged most of Korxx's attacks. A few slipped past him and hit, sending jagged stabs of pain to wherever they landed. He hissed and beat his wings, barrel-rolling to the side and down. A spear of tar hit him in the side, sending him spinning off course and crashing into the ground. IC .::. Fenirexes weaved around the oncoming spikes from Korxx's hand, avoiding the swipes he was making with his two lower arms as well. He managed to get some of the spikes that Korxx was launching embedded onto his own arm, and watched with satisfaction as he seemed to be deterred a little, but did not linger too long, for he knew he would continue his relentless attacks soon. Mesaraih continued jumping from boulder to boulder, feeling almost the same exhiliration as when he had been freefalling. He knew that once they reached the ground, the boulders were going to roll right into Korxx's feet, and being large enough to reach the middle of his shins he knew they would knock him over. Phalynx, be careful, he said. When these rocks hit, Korxx is going to lose his balance and probably fall. Mesaraih chanced a look at his clone, then quickly muttered a spell. The boulder he had jumped on cracked a bit on the surface, and the small pebbles flew into the clone's eyes. The clone stumbled, lost his balance, and before Mesaraih even saw how, had been swallowed by all the rocks. He finally reached the topmost of the falling rocks, and the lowermost were about to strike Korxx from behind. He closed his eyes, drew on the last of his energy, and suddenly, the rocks that were hitting Korxx were on fire. Korxx gave a loud roar of pain and started to topple forward. OOC .::. Phal, take the crystal whenever you want, you can do it before he falls, after he falls, or while he's falling. _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phalynx waited until Zana had completed her spell, and quickly took command of the magic. She reworked it slightly so that it would mirror gamma rays (normal mirrors could not, of course), and emitted a small amount of radiation to be sure it worked. It did. The silver then let out gamma rays from her entire body, with enough intensity to burn away all of the black, tarry substance before it could get within feet of her. She felt the energy drain immediately, and knew it was time to act. Her wings completely unfurled and snapped into starry magnificence, and as she began flapping she immediately shot forward. The spikes before and around her were burned away before she reached them, and the creatures that tried to approach her were turned away by a wave of dizziness and pain. Mesaraih's warning came, and in a few seconds, the beast lurched forward, beginning its fall. The silver dragoness blasted forward through the maze of spikes, clearing a path as she shot towards the crystal. She reached out with her jaws, lowering her head and readying herself. Abruptly, her head snaked forward, snatching the crystal between her teeth, and she rose away, flapping above the falling beast. As her gamma rays ceased, she felt elation from having retrieved the crystal despite her new exhaustion.

- - - - - - - - - - Reona hissed and somersaulted forward toward one of the flying creatures, tail and claws flashing brutally. Pain erupted on his side, crossing the fresh scar that his counter-part had healed only a few minutes ago. Ebony, he gasped, I need some help. It took a few moments, but eventually he felt a small stream of steady energy flowing into him. I won't give you a pool of energy right off; with how exhausted you are, your system would go into shock. I'll give you a steady flow for now, gradually increasing it. informed the midnight blue. Re: Evil Amongst Allies Rezekiel merely watched as the events unfolded before him. He was, to say the least, impressed by their intelligence and teamwork... although, admittedly, he knew very little about working with a team. He quickly gathered up as much strength as he could, then drew his sword and jumped down where Korxx had fallen to the ground. He would finish him off once and for all. He could already see the figures of the others flickering.
Fenirexes quickly dived to where Mesaraih was still scrambling on rocks, and Mesaraih jumped on his back as soon as he was within the distance. Fenirexes turned away from the falling rocks to see that Phalynx had successfully gotten ahold of the crystal. Even as he saw this, the land around them started to fade and waver, then if flickered out of sight and they were back in the small clearing of the Spine. Mesaraih immediately turned to Phalynx. "Let me see the crystal." _________________

Re: Evil Amongst Allies Phalynx continued flying upwards, making absolutely certain she was clear of the massive, falling beast and all of its flying helpers. Obtaining the crystal had taken much out of her, and she wasn't about to lose it now. She eventually twisted back around to view the unfolding events. The world around her began to waver and fade into darkness, the wild clearing now in her sight. She watched the last traces of magic from the strange, dark world fade away before she at last flapped down to the ground, landing a little heavily because of her tiredness. Her breaths came in audible huffs, but other than some exhaustion she felt fine. Elated, in fact. She bent down to allow Zana an easy exit.
Mesaraih stepped forward and asked to examine the crystal. Phal nodded and gently lowered her head, peeling back her lips to reveal the sparkling stone wedged between her jaws. She let it fall into the rider's waiting hands, watching him and the crystal carefully. The midnight black yawned an agreement. He felt like he could sleep for a fortnight. He banked his wings, following the star silver with his eyes, his gaze glued to Zana. She didn't seem hurt, and he didn't feel anything across their connection. Once Phalynx had landed he alighted as well, crooning anxiously for Zana. The Shade dismounted and padded to him, rubbing his snout with the palm of her hand. While she soothed him that she was fine, he watched as the shoulder length dark brown hair lengthened and darkened to black-streaked-midnight-blue, and the light brown eyes cooled into a bright transfixing sapphire blue. He sighed, supposing it was time that he too relinquished control of his body to the host. Thank you for trusting me. I think. he rumbled to the midnight blue male. He heard a throaty chuckle. Don't worry about it. And you can stay in control for a while longer. Just don't do anything stupid. growled Ebony in reply. Reona grinned. Yes, sir. he said, his black (right) eye shining brightly for a moment, though his gold (left) eye continued to glow softly. He inspected the jewel, wondering at why his previous master had wanted it.
