No, I don't think that Galbatorix has anything to do with the Vault of Souls. I think it has to do with the fact that he lives in Vroengard. This is the place where the first riders lived and maybe there is some magic tied to the place. If you recall, somewhere in the book it says that Galbatorix does not leave his palace except for short periods. Could it be that out of Vroengard he is not that powerful with magic?

Yeah, I think you're onto something there. Maybe (as you said) that's where he gets his power from, or maybe he is secretly really weak, so he is scared of being attacked outside his palace!

It surely remains a mystery as to where he is drawing his power. Whatever or from where ever it may be, it has to be a huge power source to have created and held the illusion as to the amount of soldiers that he had gathered to fight against the Varden , Surda and the dwarves.

i just read something in Eldest that i didnt remimber about until now Murtagh said gaty should him secrets that the elves dare not otter so that has to mean he found a way to get energy from fire and other elaments. page 647 near the bottom of the page.

..but the elves respect magic and their rules. they know the possibilities of a spell back-fireing.

..but u said oromis said if they new how to draw on elemental powers they would have deffeated galby already.

Here we have some answers to the doubts that have arisen:
"I'm stronger than Morzan ever was." We need to keep in mind that Galbatorix also has learned a lot more throughout the years so it is only logical to believe that Murtagh is more powerfull than his father.

The contempt we hear from Murtagh in this particular statement is just an echo of Galbatorix. We need to remember that when he and Eragon rescued Ayra, Murtagh was in total awe of her. Murtagh came to the conclusion that Ayra was captured by chance; he even mentioned that Galbatorix did not know where the elven city was located because he would have marched over to conquer them.

"Words in the ancient language that were lost until Galbatorix discovered them. " I do not believe for an instant that these words were lost to Oromis. I cannot remember the exact wording but he did talk to Eragon about these words that should remain secret. So it's not lack of knowledge of the elves but respect towards the consequences on using them AND of course Galbatorix does not know the meaning or definition of the word.
"Ways to manipulate energy..." So yes, we can conclude that Murtagh was taught how to manipulate energy.

So yes, "free4ever", you are totally correct. At the time Murtagh knew things that Eragon did not know yet because he is the decent guy on the decent side. BUT, we cannot forget that he has NOT completed his training.

Actually, as I see it, I don't think it is Shruikan doing everything for him. He had Durza, the Twins and other foul minions. Now he has Murtagh to do his dirty work. But this is going to change...eventually!

im going back a couple of pages here when someone was saying why galby never leaves his castle...

well has anyone ever read the book Wintersmith? in it, their is a witch that creates awful, untrue stories about herself to keep people believing that she is very powerful ,even though she isnt. I think this may be the case with galby. he spreads crazy rumours about himself to instill a sense of fear in the people, while in real life he isnt extremely strong at all, thats why he rarely leaves his caslt, he doesnt want people to see that he is really weaking in power...

I don't think he leaves his castle because he is afraid that somebody will raid his castle, but don't you remember when in Eragon Brom had told eragon that Galby is coming to some city in like two weeks so they had to hurry out of that city. Don't you remember that? So he doesn't always never leave his castle, he goes off sometimes.

We've yet to see Galbatorix. There have been a million times people said he should appear during battle, but didn't. The hole underlying truth of the matter is...

GALBATORIX DOES NOT EXSIST!!!

It's all some heavily complex plan the elves have. They want Eragon to rule the contenent, so they tricked him, the Varden, everyone. THINK ABOUT IT LIKE THIS,

It's actually just some really stupid human in control. The elves blame him for the trouble in the land, so they don't trust anyone but an elf could rule the land anymore. So when they find out about Eragon being the rider, they get Brom out of the way, and replace him with Murtagh. Murtagh being no more then a hired blade. They have Arya contact him in his dreams, and seduce him. Therefor giving him a reason to get to the Vadren. The Varden being clueless to this, let's him in. The events in the Varden are all due to the lies creaated by the elves, that the humans and dwarves believe. The elves tell the king the location of the Varden, so he can send an army. All part of their plan to make sure Eragon thinks he's being a hero. He's tooken to Ellesmera where they brainwash most of his ideas. They made him question his religion, become a vegetarien and actually become an elf. They make him think like an elf, so when he overthroughs the king, he can take the throne and rule with the beliefs of the elves.

They've tricked Eragon, Saphira, Brom, Nasuada, Roran, Ajihad, the Varden, the dwarves, I'm not sure what Angela's place in this is, but I think we might know why Solembum lives so far away from Maud, even though she's his mother.

That's a load of bull right there. And how is Maud Solebum's mother? That don't make sense either, seeing as they probably haven't met yet. Galby does exist. When have they said he is coming and he doesn't show up? I'm sure he's real and he's down right evil.
