 Sorry, I shall post now...IC: Solarae shook her narrow head. Feel free to cook Gus's, but I'd like mine raw for now. I like it all juicy and still with the blood inside. That way it doesn't lose its water, she said, ripping a large hunk off a flank. The meat tasted delicious, as the deer had been very big and in its prime. Solarae hadn't bothered kill a weaker one, for she was hungry for something less lean and dry. After the last scraps had disappeared down her throat, and the last dribbles of blood cleaned from her muzzle, Solarae bent her head down onto her foreclaws.  Paconio watched Augustus eat in excited interest. Augustus tore off a large chunk that was at least three quarters the size of him, and began to nibble on it. Paconio figured Augustus would not finish that piece of meat, but he was way wrong. The little dragon had it down within five minutes. Augustus then began to clean himself exactly as Solarae was. After Augustus was done cleaning himself, he walked up beside Paconio and curled up into a ball. He felt very warm against Paconio. The dragon then began to make what sounded like snoring noises. Re: Coming home Solarae watched as Gus curled up comfortably next to Paconio. She smiled at the hatchling, for once admiring something because it was cute. She finished her cleaning and laid her narrow head over her foreclaws. I suppose we should get a little sleep, she said with a wide yawn. Though she was usually a "late-nighter" kind of dragon, she hadn't gotten much sleep in the past couple of days. Solarae felt tired.
Her eyelids began to droop. Solarae took one more scent of the forest to make sure they were safe before sleeping. Her blue eyes disappeared from view and she gave a loud sigh of contentment. IC: Paconio awoke from his waking dreams very slowly. He immediately noticed one thing: the elves from the battle yesterday had found a campsite in the same clearing! Strange Paconio said to himself. The leader of them ran up to him. "Congratulations!" He said as he pointed to the little green dragon curled up on a blanket not too far from them. "Thank you" Paconio said in reply. "He hatched not even 12 hours ago". Re: Coming home Solarae woke just before dawn, when the shadows of the forest were gray and indistinct. She yawned widely, stretching her limbs, and stood. With another quick yawn she raced into the forest.
The fiery dragoness came back with a rabbit for breakfast, as well as an extra which she left next to Gus. She always had a small breakfast and a large dinner, which was more than most dragons, but she knew that the hatchling would need plenty of food. She clambered up into a tree to eat her small catch. After eating the rabbit, fur and all, Solarae licked her claws clean and stretched herself languidly out on the branch. She promptly fell asleep again, content to let the others wake without her. She finally woke permanently when Paconio came awake and spoke to the elves that had come to join them in the night. Solarae yawned once more and jumped lazily to the ground. Re: Coming home "I do believe we saw some animals around the perimeter" The elf replied. "Why do you ask?" He said with a quizzical expression. "Lets just say that they are my friends" Paconio said in reply. The elf nodded slowly.
"Good morning Solarae" Paconio said with a smile. In a reality, it was very visible to everyone that Paconio was more of a morning kind of person. It was mainly because bad things usually didn't happen to him in the mornings as they did at night. Paconio then began to tell the elf his and Solarae's story after a balanced breakfast of cereal, milk, and oranges. "I was just coming back home, when out of no where, our stealthy friend over here scares my socks off!" Re: Coming home Solarae laughed mischeviously when Paconio began the tale with a mention of her. Heh heh. And you know that any tale I enter is sure to end up with plenty of action, she said cheerfully, striding over.
Solarae glanced around. She hadn't bothered to count how many elves had joined them last night when she had woken up earlier, but now she could. There were quite a few. She wondered if they had had any more success in hunting down the last of the shade's minions in the forest. Re: Coming home Solarae listened cheerfully to Paconio's recanting. He spoke very enthusiastically, which she liked. The fiery dragon was widely known for her enthusiasm, as well as several other traits. She laughed when he mentioned stalking the urgals in the tall grass.
Ha! They never saw me coming! Dumb beasts. It was awesomely hilarious, just like Paconio here says, she said happily. With undying energy, she leaped into a slinking position and began creeping through the low shrubs in demonstration of her sneaking prowess. Ha! Re: Coming home Paconio laughed at Solarae's demonstration of 'stealth mode'. "That is an exact copy!" he said. He then continued on with the story by saying "So we arrive at the hole, and contact you again. And then, Solarae finds a large army of urgals on it's way" He said in a dark and frightening tone. "After Solarae leaves the hole, these urgals were dieing left and right!" Paconio was sure not to mention the whole 'body engulfed in fire' thing because he found it was not his place to say that.
"But I too, had a battle to fight" He said to the listening elf, who seemed extremely engulfed in listening to Paconio's story. "I was surrounded by really powerful and dark creatures, all ready to kill me" He said with so much drama that it seemed like a play. "Where, out of no where, a whole bunch of animals come in and help me kill them!" Re: Coming home Solarae leaped back next to Paconio after her demonstration. She sat back comfortably on her haunches, and listened further to her friend's retelling. Oh, yes. Those urgals didn't stand a chance with me in the field. My fire saw to that, she said smugly. She quietly laughed when Paconio said something about "out of nowhere a whole bunch of animals came to help." She didn't find such a thing believable, but the elves didn't seem to care. They were all listening with rapt attention held firmly on their storyteller. Solarae glanced over at Augustus, wondering how much he was listening to his rider's tale.

Re: Coming home Paconio looked over at Augustus to make sure he was safe, to see him wide awake and looking around at all of the people. The cute little green dragon then slowly walked up to Paconio and Solarae and sat down beside them. From the on looking elf crowd, several 'awwws' were heard.
Paconio marveled at how attentively the elves were listening. They appeared as if they were hypnotized! "So then Solarae gets captured, and you guys show up about five minutes later. So we're fighting the urgals blah blah blah, fast forward" Paconio said, barely holding back a laugh. "And then, I arrive at this prison" He said in a very serious tone. Re: Coming home Hey now! I was not "just captured." I used the last of my energy blasting the entire urgal army into oblivion, and while I was unconscious that no-good excuse for a shade teleported me to a cave, she said, standing. Solarae would in no way imaginable let her reputation be marred. She thought far too much of herself to let her feat be bypassed in such a manner.
And then, I'll have you know, the shade came into the cave and tried to get me to join him, but I refused, knowing full well that the cave would eventually run out of air and I would die. Re: Coming home "Oh Solarae, what would we do about you?" Paconio said with a nervous laugh. He then listened when she gave details of where she was trapped and what happened. He then continued on with his part of the story by saying "After I was put in my cell, this shade comes in and knocks me out, and placed me in a new cell. I wake up, to find a human standing there, preparing to kill me. I kill him with his own weapon, and start to look for Solarae"
Paconio shifted his positition, cleared his throat, and then said "Luckily, she had already escaped, and was only one door down. So we step out into the hall, and magical alarms and things of that nature begin to go off. Re: Coming home Solarae laughed. I killed the man who had been strapping me down, and then I encountered Paconio and we started to fight our way out, she said enthusiastically. Those guards had no chance, none at all. But then that blasted shade came back, and things got a bit difficult, she continued, grinning. Solarae very happily demonstrated some of her fight moves to the group, tumbling through the air in complex flips and twirls. Her tail-blade flashed through the air like a flame, spots of sunlight glinting off it.

Re: Coming home "Nice moves!" Paconio said to Solarae. The rest of the elves seemed very pleased to watch Solarae as well. It was a pretty impressive show. To finish the story, Paconio said "So we fight the shade, we eventually defeat him, but not kill him. He teleported away at the last second. So then, Solarae melts through the wall with her awesome power of firey awesomeness. Then, we run back to Du Weldenvarden, and Augustus hatched about half way here"
Paconio the placed his hand on then little green dragon's head, and began to rub it. The little dragon seemed to like it. Re: Coming home Solarae laughed once more, thoroughly amused by the story. I like it, Paconio. My awesome power of fiery awesomeness, she said with a wide toothy grin. For emphasis, she let out a very small jet of flame, just enough to light up the clearing with an orange glow.
Well, I suppose our story has to continue now. Have any of you word of this shade we speak of? Re: Coming home "I have not heard anything about this shade yet other than in this story" The elf said. The crowd of elves in the back seemed to shiver, as if now realizing that the story was actually true. Paconio simply nodded at them as if to confirm their thoughts.
Out of nowhere, Augustus jumped up on Paconio's shoulders, and sat there like a parrot on a pirate. Paconio really didn't mind it at all, but rather he liked it. Re: Coming home Solarae laughed when Gus hopped up on Paconio's shoulder. She turned back to the elves. Well, it is very important that you all keep an eye out for this shade. No doubt he'll be trying to find another way into the forest again. And also, how many evil creatures do you think are left in Du Weldenvarden? she asked. Once Gus was safe, and they had all taken a rest, Solarae had decided to venture back out to find any remaining dark creatures. She wasn't sure if Paconio would accompany her, but she would go with or without him. Of course, she wouldn't leave until they had Augustus at a safe place.

Re: Coming home "Well..." The elf said. "By a show of the number we encountered, and yet they got away, I'd say at least fifty" Paconio gasped. Fifty?! That is the same number as elves gathered around them. The elf put on a twisted smile, as if to confirm Paconio suspicions.
The elf, or what looked like an elf snapped his fingers. At that moment, the 50 elves turned into dark creatures. They pulled off what looked to be real skin, revealing their true bodies. They growled and glared at the trio. "You monsters!" Re: Coming home Solarae was startled by the sudden transformation, but wasted no time. She was used to surprise attacks. Paconio! Get Gus to safety! I'll hold them off! she shouted into his mind, and immediately flamed the group of dark creatures before them. She lit her fire to epic proportions, burning down twelve of them into piles of ash. She leaped through the fire and tackled two of them, ripping out their throats as they fell. She then whipped herself around in a circle, slicing away a few more with her tailblade. She continued leaping into the air, kicking and knocking her enemies back in a circle around her. She blasted fire as often as she could, moving her head from side to side to burn away her enemies. They continued to surround her, the circle growing tighter and tighter. Solarae knew she couldn't let it get too small, or they would all fall upon her. She hadn't the strength to reignite into her fiery form, but she still had her fire. She sacrificed some of her energy to burn the circle wider, giving her enough room to fight efficiently.

Re: Coming home Paconio ran behind a tree, and put Gus there. Before leaving him, he covered Gus in a blanket and covered it in dried leaves. Paconio then ran back to where Solarae was. By now, there was a tight circle. Paconio roared and brought his fist down upon one of the enemies back. It screamed, alerting the others of his presence. Most of them gathered around him, preparing to strike. "Stay back" Paconio growled, pointing his sword at them.

Re: Coming home Solarae used Paconio's distraction to break through the surrounding circle and run between her enemies. She slashed left and right with her tail-blade and blasted fire left and right. The attack brought down countless dark creatures, and also drew the army apart. Twenty-two were now surrounding Solarae, and seventeen were facing Paconio.
Solarae ran into the trees, leading her group in behind her. She leaped into the boughs above her and then backtracked. As she drew in above them, she dropped onto the heads of a few of them. Two of them had their necks broken on impact, and her tail-blade sliced neatly down two others, killing them. She then spun in a circle, killing three more, before darting away again. She kept coming back, killing them in twos and threes at a time. They were not as agile as she, and so could not move so quickly in the forest. Before long, she only had a huddled group of eight left. Solarae flapped above their heads and loosed her flame upon them, burning them to ashes. Re: Coming home As Solarae ran into the forest to fight her group, Paconio lunged his sword at several of them. He jumped into the air, slicing and kicking all the way, successfully killing his chosen targets. The screamed and writhed around on the ground as they slowly died. It disgusted Paconio, but it had to be done, it was him or them.
The circle suddenly formed around Paconio got tighter. To make it wider, he twisted around in a circle, sword stretched out to hit anyone that got too close. That move had killed the bulk of them, and only left 5 more to defeat. Re: Coming home Solarae raced through the forest, intent on reaching Paconio. As she was drawing nearer to the clearing, however, she noticed the scent of urgal. A small group of three were huddled at a tree near the edge of the clearing, trying to wrestle something to the ground. With horror, Solarae realized which tree it was.
Paconio! It's a destraction! They're trying to kidnap Augustus! she cried, her voice overwhelmingly enraged. Her whole body, and the air stretching two feet in either direction burst into powerful flames. The plants she ran straight through didn't have time to even burn; they simply melted. The fiery dragon left a clear path charred behind her in the forest growth. She leapt at the nearest of the urgals, but was surprised to find her fire had no effect. The shade had put a spell around them to shield them, obviously. Solarae instead landed on its chest and tore savagely at its throat until there was nothing left of the neck and upper torso but a bloody mess. She leaped through the air at another one, but was caught by the flat of a long, bow-shaped blade. It slammed her roughly backwards, but she backflipped and landed upright. Re: Coming home Paconio grew enraged as he heard this news. He jabbed his sword through one of the five remaining enemies chest, leaving only four to defeat. He jumped and twisted through the air, kicking or jabbing his sword where ever he could. Pretty soon, only one was left. He quickly sliced at it and ran to Augustus.
When he found the scene of madness, Paconio couldn't seem to control himself. He kicked one urgal in the stomach, while stomping on the other urgal's face after he pushed it down. Even now that the urgals were incapacitated, or in other words defeated but not actually dead, Paconio still wanted more. He grabbed them by their throats and dragged them into the clearing, and then he slammed their bodies one by one off of the hard ground. He did it over and over, not even realizing how crazy it was. The urgals pleaded for mercy, saying they would do anything for him if he would just stop it. Re: Coming home Solarae dragged the final urgal to the ground on the edge of the clearing. She brutally began ripping it apart, tearing off huge chunks of flesh in her razor sharp teeth and clawing it apart. She jerked her head back and forth, ripping and renting with enraged animalistic fury. She tore open the rib cage in one wrench and began ripping apart everything. Soon the urgal was a pile of gore upon the ground, and blood was literally covering Solarae. The appearance, especially combined with her wicked canine teeth, made her look savage and bloodthirsty.
She looked over at Paconio, who seemed to have things well in hand as he was beating the last two urgals to death. Instead, she walked over to Augustus, who was huddled near the tree. Are you alright little one? Re: Coming home After Paconio was finished with the two urgals, he immediately ran to Augustus. Solarae had gotten there first, securing the area faster than he would have. Augustus looked really scared, because he was shivering and looking around the world with his huge blue eyes, much bigger than before.
Paconio slowly walked over to the two dragons, until Augustus let out a whimper that kind of sounded like "I'm hungry" in the ancient language. Paconio then entered the little dragons mind. Augustus had pulled out of Paconio's when all of the fighting broke out. Paconio was too distracted to know, though. Paconio then said clearly Are you hungry, friend?. To Paconio's surprise, Augustus answered with words. Re: Coming home Solarae began laughing hysterically when she overheard Augustus' words. Well, don't you recover quickly? she laughed, amused at the little dragon's switch from fear to hunger. Hold on a moment, hopefully our fight hasn't wrecked it... she mumbled, holding her tail towards the hatchling to tell him to wait.
She sniffed around the edge of the clearing until she had caught the scent. She quickly snuffled over to the base of a tree, near where Augustus had been sleeping earlier, and picked up the rabbit she had caught for his breakfast hours ago. It's a little cold now, but that can be dealt with. It should tide you over until lunchtime, she said with a smile as she trotted back. Solarae placed the rabbit on the ground and let out a small stream of fire above it, heating it nicely. Though she had powerful fire, she also had great control over it. She was able to neatly cook the entire rabbit without burning it. Re: Coming home Paconio watched as Solarae cooked the rabbit meat. It became cooked enough in no time, and Augustus attacked the rabbit as soon as Solarae was done cooking. "Thank you chef Solarae" Paconio said with a big grin.
Augustus seemed to really play with his food more than he ate it. He wrestled around with it in the grass, only taking a nibble here and there. He kicked the rabbit meat into the air, and took a nibble off of the belly area. He then raked his claws against the belly area, now taking large chunks out of any area not being demolished by him. Finally, as what would be the mortal blow, Augustus ripped out the rabbits insides. He then finished eating the rabbit and began to walk around, looking for a place to curl up again. Paconio found all that had just happened very hilarious. Cooked meat tastes much better than raw, unless of course you're in the mood for some blood, she said rather wistfully. Solarae did enjoy a good bloody meal. She laughed when the little dragon wrestled with his meal before he consumed it. Quite ferocious, isn't he? It's enough to make anyone proud, she said happily, and truthfully. She was proud of the hatchling's obvious enthusiasm. I suppose when he wakes up we should start moving again. The elves, the real elves, will want to know of everything that's transpired, she said to Paconio.

Re: Coming home Paconio nodded to the explanation about meat. Among his elven brethren, meat was rarely, or never seen, but Paconio had been to many places. In most cases, people did eat cooked meat. He had only seen Solarae and Augustus eat meat raw, though. (OOC: To explain the Augustus part, it was when he first hatched, and Paconio fed him the 'blessed meat'.)

Re: Coming home Solarae smiled. Yeah, he looks thoroughly out. Let's go, she said, hopping to her feet. She began moving out of the clearing and into the thick greenery. She brushed past plants, enjoying the feel of some of the fuzzy ones brushing her face. The thick undergrowth made it hard to see very far, but her sense of smell would pick up anything nearby, so the dragoness was not worried.
Before stepping completely out of the clearing, Solarae turned to glance back at Paconio and Augustus. They seemed to be keeping up, so she turned back and walked in amongst the trees. Rays of sunlight glittered in through the close-growing leaves, sparkling off of her fiery scales. Re: Coming home Paconio followed Solarae into the forest. He kept track of where she was by the sparkles reflecting off of her scales, and sometimes by mind if no sun was out in that part of the forest.
To pass the time, Paconio did a little Q&A with Augustus. Augustus usually asked questions about what certain plants and animals are. Re: Coming home Solarae walked until she could no longer guide them. Alright, Paconio. I don't know where we're going from here. You lead the way, she said as she appeared out of the undergrowth and next to the rider and small dragon. She trotted to a new position behind them, inicating that they should start off. As she walked behind them, she constantly scented their surroundings and listened for danger. There was no telling what could attack them through the thick greenery.

If he is allowed to roam freely, he will cause a great deal of trouble for the elves. He has already made his malicious intentions clear, she said, pacing along behind her friends. She wondered just how long "not too long" would be, but didn't worry about it. She was up for any journey.

She paused every so often to scent the air, making sure they weren't being followed, but each time the air smelled clean.

Re: Coming home How would you like to go on an adventure? Paconio asked Augustus. The little green dragon gave Paconio a definite 'yes', and then began pestering Paconio for details. The only thing Paconio would tell him was that it is "action packed".
After confirmation from Augustus, Paconio said "He says he would love to" to Solarae. The Q&A with Augustus was getting boring, and everything the could play 'eye spy' on was either Augustus himself, the plants, the tree bark, Solarae's scales, and the sky. After hearing of Kirtan being near, Paconio grew excited. He did what looked to be an awkward jig. Augustus, now on the ground, began yelling Shield your eyes! It's the attack of the horrible dancer!. Paconio stopped dancing almost immediately, saying "Say, have you seen Solarae?". She crept backwards along the tree branch and then dropped her tail down, tapping Paconio on the shoulder and then quickly raising back up as he turned around. With an amused grin she jumped down behind him and gave a small, dangerous roar.

Re: Coming home Paconio felt a slight tap on his shoulder. What is that? he wondered, turning. He saw nothing, and figured it was just a figment of his imagination. He then heard a roar behind him. He slowly turned around, sweat starting to cover his back. He finally faced the thing growling at him, and it turned out to be Solarae! "You gave me quite the scare!" Paconio said in a slightly still scared voice.
Paconio then trudged forward towards Kirtan, now hearing the voices of his elven brethren. Re: Coming home PPaconio looked to Augustus, and asked "So that's how it is?" There was a long and dramatic pause of scariness. "I like it! Gives me some excitement". He then showed Augustus all of the memories where he did that to people. "Interesting huh?" He asked.
Soon enough, elves were visible. After Paconio did the elven greeting with them, he began telling them that they needed to see the leader of the city immediately. With that, they began an assault of questions about Paconio, Solarae, and Augustus. They mainly asked about all of them at once. A few people asked him if he was one of those shape shifting dragons and that Solarae and Augustus was his family. She relished such moments, and answered every question with a practiced confidence and an air of smugness that the elves didn't notice. She held her head proudly and surveyed her "admirers," pausing to answer almost every statement and question directed at her as if she were the most noble creature in existence.
They slowly made their way to the leader of the city, where the guards shooed away the gathering crowd and beckoned them eagerly inside. Re: Coming home Paconio followed Solarae into town, Augustus in his arms and covered in a blanket, to let him sleep during the day. The city had not changed appearance at all after all the years Paconio had been gone. It kind of made Paconio think that time stopped when he had left.
When they reached the rather large house where the leader was staying, they were greeted by a man in a rather fancy elven suit. "I shall alert him of your presence now" he said. "Please hang on for a second" Paconio said. "I really need to change my clothes" With out waiting for a reply, he ran off and came back five minutes later, with a very expensive suit on. He had bought it about fifty years ago, and it has never failed to make him look great. Re: Coming home Solarae muffled her laughter when she saw Paconio return dressed so finely. You look- she snorted -gentlemanly, and promptely began to laugh hysterically. The sight was too good to resist, and she couldn't stop the growling dragon laughs from erupting. The elf guard looked at her with some disapproval, and she attempted to hide her laughter to no avail. Even as they walked in she continued to snort quietly under her breath.
She finally quenched her laughter when they approached the elf mayor. Well, make it good, Paconio. Re: Coming home Paconio didn't bother replying to the laughter. He felt that it was what any dragon would do. Besides, he didn't really look like the type to wear a suit. When they finally reached the mayor, Paconio did the elven greeting. The elf did the same in return, and then said "May I ask why you come to me so urgently?"
"We come here to tell you about the hole in the wards" Paconio said in return, preferring to think more about beautiful birds than the conversation they were having. Re: Coming home Paconio and the elf began to confer with each other, and Solarae sat nearby, interested. The elf immediately looked worried when Paconio began about the hole. "Ah, yes, you were the one who told us about this before. What has happened since then?" the mayor asked in a professional tone, though Solarae caught the hint of concern.
She sniffed the air, suddenly catching the scent of more elves. It seemed there were onlookers beyond the room. Re: Coming home Paconio looked at the little eyes in the walls. A few of the people he knew, most he did not. He smiled and got back to the conversation. "Well, I am not exactly sure if it is" Paconio explained. He then recounted the tale of the brutal monsters they encountered in the clearing. One by one, the elves watching walked away, disgusted by the tale.
After the tale, the mayor looked as if he could cry. Re: Coming home Solarae bowed her head sadly when Paconio told the elves about the evil beasts that had killed fifty of them. She had nearly forgotten the tragic discovery, and was suddenly ashamed of her cheerful behavior earlier. This was no occasion to be in a light mood.
The mayor managed to hold back whatever emotions threatened to spill over, and spoke. "This is- this is indeed tragic news. And the shade is the one who caused it. We must hunt him down," he said in a low voice. Solarae immediately perked up. Sir, Paconio, Augustus, and I are interested in that very task. Re: Coming home Paconio nodded, as if to assure the mayor that Solarae intended it. The mayor said, "Well, knowing how much you have been through, I'd guess you guys would be the best for the job. You do know what he is after, correct?"
Paconio shifted in his seat and said "Well, he is after something that is no more. He believes it is still in it's original form, though. He is after Augustus, my little green dragon here. Though he believes Augustus is still and egg" The elf mayor looked at Augustus, as if just noticing he was there. "I didn't even notice" He under his breath said. "My apologies, I didn't even notice he was there!" Re: Coming home Solarae laughed a little when the mayor exclaimed his surprise at not noticing Augustus. She glanced back. The hatchling did seem a shy type, sort of hanging around inconspicuously in the background. Hmm, he could be a stealthy little bugger, she thought with amusement.
Maybe we could create a false egg for Paconio to carry around, to attrack the shade's attention. And when he takes the "egg," we can surprise attack him! Re: Coming home The mayor remained quiet for a moment, considering Solarae's suggestion. After a moment or two he said "That does sound like a good plan, but do you know exactly what you're up against? Are you sure this shade won't just send out some of his soldiers to retrieve the egg?"
The questions seemed to repeat themselves in Paconio's head, and he began to zone out. Paconio then began to notice the elves returning, hope burning in their eyes. Apparently they heard the plan, and they all wanted to be in on it. One of them slowly walked into the room and asked the mayor "What do we have to do to be involved in this plan of yours? We are all willing to help. Especially since it has to do with Paconio, my childhood friend" That is when Paconio recognized who it was. It was Joe, his old buddy. Re: Coming home Solarae raised an eye-ridge, wondering why Augustus would want to commit the elves' scents to memory. And why are you memorizing their scents? she questioned, glancing from him to the door. It never occurred to her that some more cautious dragons might want to make sure they remembered certain people by their scents. Solarae had never really bothered to care what things smelled like unless they were important in some way.

Re: Coming home Well, I figured that if some of the shade's goons came in disguise as them, I could tell Augustus answered. He had memorized the scents very quickly, but he had wanted to make sure it was the right scent.
Paconio wasn't really paying attention to Augustus or Solarae, but rather, he was in the middle of studying the mayor's body language. Re: Coming home See ya later, Solarae said offhandedly to the mayor, turning around to follow the others. She pranced along at the back of the group, her feet feeling very light. She was more jittery than usual, stemming from the nervous energy that Paconio and Augustus were giving off.
She trotted out the door behind them, bringing up the rear of the group to keep an eye on everyone. There was no telling when an attack by the shade could come, so Solarae kept her wings tense and her leg muscles springy, and really, really hoped that no one would jump at her and surprise her. Re: Coming home Paconio made his way to the door. Before knocking, he looked at the rest of the group. They were all as nervous as he was, but each in their own special way. Augustus was being assertive and moody, Solarae was really, really jittery, and Joe was off in his own little world.
Paconio then lightly knocked on the door. From within the shack you could here a female voice shout "Coming!". Minutes later, the door opened and the woman appeared. It's a better spot for protection, and I'd just get in the way in there, she said, pushing past the elf and sitting down in the hallway for emphasis. She didn't really trust anyone in this village. The sooner they had the egg and got out of the place, the better, in her opinion. She wanted to stay near the door in case anyone tried to get in, or out, and so she could keep an eye on her friends at the same time.

Re: Coming home Paconio nodded in agreement after Solarae said she shouldn't go inside. The reasons couldn't be any more clear. Paconio wished he had an excuse like Solarae, he was suspicious of everyone he had met since the attack at their camp.
Paconio and Joe reluctantly stepped into the doorway, leaving Augustus to stay with Solarae. The shack was cluttered with note books and and strange objects. This made Paconio wondered what exactly those books held and what those objects did, but he dare not say a word. "Please, sit" The elf woman said, motioning toward the couch. Paconio and Joe walked over to the couch slowly, talking to each other via mind. This is obviously a bad idea Paconio had said to start the conversation. What makes you think that? I suppose being through what happened to you guys must really make a person suspicious of everything. Then again, this place is pretty strange... Re: Coming home Solarae grinned encouragingly at Paconio and Joe as they walked deeper into the house. She lingered around the door itself, and then moved a little further inside, into the shadows. She placed herself in such a way that she was almost unnoticable, despite her brightly colored scales and the fact that she was a dragon. She was completely inconspicuous. Do not wander too far away from me, Augustus. And definately stay in this room, here, she said, meeting the hatchling's eyes with her own. She was taking it as her own responsibility to look after him at the moment, while his rider was away. The protection of young ones was one of the few duties she took very seriously.

Re: Coming home Listening to Solarae's command, Augustus curled his green body right up next to her, trying to seem cute and cuddly. He opened his big blue eyes as wide as they could go, trying to make as much eye contact as possible. He was trying to act like Paconio as a child. Cute and cuddly boys, cute and cuddly He would always say to his animal friends.
Paconio and Joe followed the woman with her eyes as she disappeared into a room, probably the room with the fake egg. A while later, both the man and the woman appeared in the room, a sack in the woman's hands. "Here is your 'egg'" they both said simultaneously. The woman handed Paconio the sack as he was about to leave. As Paconio left the doorway, he felt a sharp pain in his back. He fell over, feeling the blood oozing out of the wound. He was then flipped over, to see the twisted faces worn by the spell weavers. There was a knife in the woman's hand, dripping the same purple substance as the knife in the shade's lair. Re: Coming home Solarae laughed at Augustus. Even she thought the little dragonling was rather adorable, as he was trying his hardest to be at the moment. She suddenly flared her nostrils wide, having caught a scent, a very bad one. The warning flared her senses. She could smell poison.
Solarae leapt to her feet with a snarl and reached the door in one leap. But it was too late; the scent of blood reached her as she drew a deep breath. She blasted the door apart in a single explosion of fire, and followed her flame into the dark room beyond. The elves were gone, and Paconio was on the floor. A pool of red was spreading beneath him. Paconio! Solarae yelled, dashing to his side. She roared in fury and a massive jet of fire escaped her jaws, completely bathing one of the wooden walls in red. The wall exploded outwards, revealing part of another room and the trees on the outside of the house. Re: Coming home Augustus and Joe struggled to comprehend what had just happened. Paconio, however, shunned himself for not thinking they would do that. Augustus simply didn't understand as it was his first day living, and Paconio so far hadn't gotten hurt in front of him, aside from a bump on the head.
Joe didn't bother trying to understand what just happened, he just got down beside Paconio and talked him through everything. "Everything is going to be fine, don't you worry" Joe had said. He may have ruined his clothes in the process, but it was worth it. Augustus just watched with horror as the puddle grew larger by the second. It terrified him that one of the people that had known him since birth had a chance of dying right now. Seeing the horror in Paconio's and Augustus's eyes, Joe made it his goal to stop this bleeding. He gently flipped Paconio onto his stomach. The wound was very visible, because you could just see the blood rolling out of it. Although Joe wasn't very skilled in the magical arts, he was attempting to heal the wound. Apparently the poison was pretty strong, because Joe couldn't do anything to heal it. If only he had trained himself in the magical arts, then he might of had the strength to overpower the poison.... As for Paconio, he had learned a lesson over this matter: Never make a deal with strange elves without a little protection. Other than that, he was completely horrified. His mind raced through memories and old friends, until the poison took affect. Re: Coming home Solarae continued to rampage through the rest of the house, needing to vent some of her anger. A whole room was completely demolished just by her physical body, and then incinerated with her flame. The elves on the outside of the house stood gaping in shock, until she blasted flame at them. They fled as quickly as possible after that.
Solarae was going to run immediately to the mayor and demand answers out of him, in a very unpleasant fashion, before killing him. But something stopped her. As she was passing by the room, she saw Augustus, alone and afraid, and all by himself while his rider lay, possibly dying. For once, Solarae's rage was extinguished, and she could only think to comfort the little dragon. She paced over to his side and wrapped herself in a motherly way around the hatchling. Don't worry, Augustus. Paconio will be fine. When he gets better, we'll go find the people that did this and make them pay. Just think about that, Paconio will get better and we'll make everything right, okay? she murmured. It was an odd thing for Solarae, for her voice to be filled with such compassion. Usually her voice betrayed no hint of kindness. Friendliness, determination, bravery, ferocity, anger... but not like this. Her blue eyes turned to Paconio and Joe. Take some of my strength, little one, she whispered into Paconio's mind. That was an odd thing for her too; to reveal her true age of hundreds of years. But her tone revealed it all too well. Re: Coming home Augustus accepted Solarae's embrace, feeling that it was what a mother dragon would do. His worries seemed to melt away, as if nothing mattered anymore. Paconio would be fine, Solarae said so. Everything was going to be set right.
Paconio smiled as the energy poured into his system. With that much energy in his system, he could try out the spell he had made a few years ago. He had never cast it before though, so he didn't know how much energy it would use, and oppurtunities like this one didn't come around too often. He struggled to his feet, acting as if he didn't have the energy coursing through his veins. He whispered the words needed for the spell, and almost immediatly, blue sparks flew off of his fingers. The sparks formed a coocoon around him, some sinking into any ingured area, obviously most of them went into his back. After every wound on his body was sealed, the remaining blue sparks returned into his finger tips. For a few minutes after the spell, Paconio's body seemed to steam. The spell surprisingly used very little energy, considering all the wounds it fixed. Joe just stared at Paconio in astonishment, and who could blame him? Augustus didn't see everything with the blue sparks, He just saw Paconio was better. Augustus then cheerfully ran up to Paconio yelling: Solarae was right! You're okay, but if you ever put your self in that much danger again, I am sooo not going to let you sleep on me when I'm fully grown. Paconio laughed, and hugged the little green dragon tightly. Re: Coming home Solarae kept herself wrapped around Gus while she was waiting, watching Paconio. Thankfully, he was able to use the energy she gave him to heal himself. In a very odd manner, as well. She grinned and stepped away from Augustus as he rushed over to his rider.
I'm glad you're okay, Paconio. You gave us all quite a scare. Ugh, I don't like being in this serious mood. Let's go hunt down some shade, that'll make me feel better, she said with a laugh, standing and walking over to the giant hole in wall that she had made earlier. Re: Coming home Paconio and the rest of the group followed Solarae to the gaping hole in the wall. I wasn't going to tell anybody anyway Paconio said with a laugh. "Let's go kill us up some shade!" He said aloud, raising his sword in the air. The sun shone upon it, making the sword look like it was made of light.
Now they were at the crossroads of the journey. They could do only one of three things: They could go to the mayor and demand answers, they could just leave the village and continue on with their journey, or they could split up into two groups and do both of the first options. Paconio decided to help out Joe by saying "I think he may have a point. He could have nothing to do with that... happening. If that is the case, we will be hunted down by BOTH the shade AND the elves. But if he is, then we'll be much happier knowing we've taken the time to interro- I mean, ask him some questions, she said, catching herself. She didn't want to come onto this too ferociously. There was a chance that the mayor was innocent. Then again, he could be behind the whole drama here, and the thought of that made her seeth with fury.

Re: Coming home "Okay, let's be on our way" Paconio said, walking toward the mayor's house. When they reached the door, Paconio softly knocked on the door. He was greeted by a butler elf, and immediately escorted them to where the mayor was.

Re: Coming home Solarae waited patiently while Paconio explained what had occurred. Her smile was altogether too innocent, revealing that she was far from peaceful. In reality, she was aching to tackle the mayor to the ground right then and there and demand answers out of him. But that could wait until she had seen his reaction. The reaction could betray him, or keep him innocent.
Solarae stepped around Paconio, still with the fakely pleasant smile on her face. And we were wondering perhaps, if you had anything to do with this terrible betrayal, she said, her voice low. Re: Coming home "I would never!" Said the mayor in a shocked tone. "I know you guys have been through a lot of things together, but I never had thought you would suspect me of such a crime!" The mayor seemed quite appalled to have it even thought that he was involved in the crime.
Paconio didn't know whether or not to trust the mayor. He did seem pretty surprised by the happening, but looks weren't everything. Augustus didn't really listen to what was going on, he just perched himself on Paconio's shoulder, trying the adorable act on Paconio. It didn't really work at the moment, but little Gus was sure it would work some day. Joe, on the other hand, uncomfortably listened to the accusations. Re: Coming home Solarae cocked her head, her smile disappearing. She strode forward a few paces, ruffling her wings. A little defensive, aren't we? she growled, her eyes flashing dangerously. How can we know you are telling the truth? So far you have not proven yourself innocent, she said, her voice still ringing with threat. She wasn't one to be nice when there was a possibility someone had hurt her friends. Even that possibility, though it could not yet be proven, set her on edge.

He simply listened to what she had to say, and then said "I may not have proven myself innocent, but you three haven't proven that you aren't hostiles with their minds set on destroying every last elf in this entire forest. You're just lucky I decided to help you on this 'quest' of yours, so do not, I repeat do not go throwing wild accusations at me like that"
Even under those circumstances, Paconio noticed that the mayor held his ground with Solarae. Even so, Paconio stepped back a little. Re: Coming home The mayor completely ignored Solarae's questions, just replying to her by yelling "Security! Come quickly please!" Seconds later, twenty muscular elves appeared in the room. "Throw these three out of the city" The mayor said, pointing to Paconio, Augustus, and Solarae.
They already had a hold on Paconio, but Augustus managed to escape their clutches and run to Solarae. Re: Coming home Just as I suspected, he can't be trusted, Solarae thought angrily. In a single instant, the mayor's desk erupted into flame as Solarae's scales caught fire. The air around her was so hot, that everything flammable within two feet of her burst into flames. She turned, and with a fearful roar, incinerated the chains holding Augustus. Several of the elves rushed towards her, only to fall back from the heat of her fire. Their magic was incapable of extinguishing her flame, and Solarae's glare was enough to keep the elves from making themselves fireproof and attacking her then. She didn't want to kill elves, but wouldn't hesitate if the need arose.
Release my friend, she hissed at the elves holding down Paconio, and slowly advanced. Re: Coming home One of the guards said to Solarae in a fear-filled voice "Now, O' dragon, let's not do anything hasty. If you burn us, you burn your friend" Hearing this, Joe finally decided to get off of his booty and help Paconio. He ran over to where Paconio was and just stood in front of the guards. In a flash, Joe jabbed light punches at key pressure points on each of the guards. Most of the guards didn't fall over, but a few of the smaller ones did. One of the guards that didn't fall simply back-handed Joe, sending him flying across the room. "Now like we were saying" One of the guards said, obviously showing they were more confident in their position, "If we go, so does your friend"

Re: Coming home Solarae laughed malevolently, advancing further. You underestimate me... My strength of flame not only lies in its power, but also in its accuracy, she said, taking another step. As soon as Joe was knocked away from them, she sprang into action. Solarae let out a very thin, but very hot stream of fire, hitting one of Paconio's captors in the chest and flinging him backwards with his shirt aflame. As the others were watching the elf flail about trying to put out the fire, Solarae leapt into the air. The fire around her suddenly disappeared and she tackled another of the elves to the ground. In another instant, she had flared up again. Bring it. I can do this all day, she challenged.

Re: Coming home While Solarae went to work wrestling with the guards, Augustus sprung into action with a plan he thought was bound to fail but worth trying. He easily got behind the guards, and just as easily made himself visible to Paconio. He told Paconio his plan, and then set it into action. He crawled his way up one of the guards shirts, hearing screams along the way. "Get it off of me!" The guard screamed, setting off a chain reaction of surprised gasps. Maybe, just maybe, it would be enough for Solarae to get Paconio out.

Re: Coming home There were only a few more elves holding on to Paconio, and Solarae intended to deal with them as quickly and efficiently as possible. Suddenly, one of them jumped away shrieking, a conspicuous lump visible under his shirt. Solarae laughed, and made a mental note to commend Gus later.
She turned and spat a small but powerful fireball at another of the elves, knocking him into a wall. The others were frantically trying to drag Paconio away, but the elf with Augustus under his shirt and Solarae were preventing their escape. She dashed past the group, careful to get just close enough to set a couple of the elves' clothing on fire, but not close enough to Paconio to do the same. They released their captive as they tried to get rid of the flames. You guys are pushovers. It's a wonder you all haven't been eaten by forest creatures, Solarae said with a roll of her eyes. She ran at the group again, and this time she tackled all of them to the ground. Paconio went down with them, but she was careful to land on his captors and not him. Solarae reached down and with her powerful fangs ripped away the bindings holding Paconio. As she removed the last of them, a powerful blast of magic sent her crashing into the wall behind them. Re: Coming home Paconio jumped up as soon as his bindings were undone, and it seemed that Solarae was pushed away by magic just as quickly. A few guards tried to approach Paconio, but at this point he was too seething with rage to allow himself to be captured again. He grabbed one of them, and even to his own surprise, picked him up and threw him at the other guards. They all fell over, making a giant heap on the floor.
Augustus, go make sure Solarae is okay, I'll take care of the rest of these guys The little dragon scurried off, flying as fast as his little wings would permit. Paconio then turned around to face the mayor. Re: Coming home Solarae staggered to her feet in a daze. She winced when she tried to put weight on her front right leg; her shoulder was throbbing in pain. She shook her head to clear it, and in a few moments she felt fine except for her shoulder and right wing. Her wing was hurting too, though not as badly. I'm gonna kill him! she screeched in rage.
As she turned back to the building, she saw Augustus rush out towards her. I'm alright little one. You need to keep yourself safe, stay on the edges of the fighting but don't hide. If they find you first they could capture you, Solarae spoke to the little dragon, concerned for his safety. She left the "they" part a little vague, as she wasn't sure herself exactly who it was they were supposed to be worried about. Evil elves, urgals, ra'zac, the shade... it could be anyone. Solarae limped back to the room with the others. Her scales once again caught fire, burning and singeing everything nearby. Alright. Re: Coming home Paconio drew his sword, and waited to see what the mayor would do. The mayor simply laughed and started tugging at his face. The skin peeled off to reveal......... the shade! "Oh not again..." Paconio said under his breath. All this skin peeling was making him sick.

Re: Coming home Solarae swore loudly when she saw that the mayor was really the shade. What is everyone's problem here?! Seriously! I am getting sick of you, shade! she yelled in a frustrated voice. She strode to Paconio's side and in front of Augustus, any injury to her shoulder forgotten. She wasn't one to coddle herself over dumb injuries that could wait until later.
Well, whatever. I s'pose we can just kill you now and be done with it, she hissed, her blue gaze frighteningly intense. Solarae growled low in her throat, a menacing sound that would make most enemies flinch. Re: Coming home The shade merely laughed at Solarae, it wasn't your everyday laughter either, it was demented, crazy laughter. "For a second there, I thought you said YOU were going to kill ME"
Paconio glared at the shade. Paconio imagined that if his glares were heat vision there would be several holes in the shade's body right about now. Before Paconio said anything to the shade, Paconio whispered out of the corner of his mouth, "If we get out of here alive, I'll heal you later" Paconio ran at the shade with unnatural speed. He didn't really know what he was going to do when he reached the shade, but he had to do something, that much was sure. When he reached the shade, he tried to simply land a punch on the shade's face to make him fall back, but when Paconio attempted it, he got entire arm twisted almost to the point of breaking and then kicked back against the wall. _________________ The sacrifice is never knowing Why I never walked away, Why I played myself this way, Now I see your testing me pushes me away. Re: Coming home Solarae raced forward the moment she saw Paconio's legs tense to do the same. She ran behind the shade, and blasted fire at him. She leaped forward through her own flames, though she knew the trick wouldn't work on him. Instead of trying to tackle him as she usually did in that move, she flapped her wings and overshot him, which resulted in his turning around. She let out another burst of fire, which he mostly countered, only getting his clothes a little singed. He yelled angrily and blasted magic at her. Solare knew she couldn't avoid magic, so braced herself for the inevitable impact. She was knocked off her feet and sent backwards. The landing made her grit her teeth in pain as her shoulder was jolted. She stood though, and didn't show any more pain than that. This would be a fight to the finish, until either she or the shade was dead, or if the shade decided to flee as he usually did.

Re: Coming home Paconio jumped back to his feet as soon as Solarae was hit by magic. He ran at the shade, letting out a loud roar as his fist connected with the shade's stomach. He twisted his fist as he punched the shade, making it a lot more painful than it would have been other wise. The blow threw the shade back up against the wall.
Using this as a distraction, Paconio ran to Solarae, and called upon the blue spark healing magic. He let about twenty sparks out, and said "That's all I can do right now, but I will finish up later" _________________ The sacrifice is never knowing Why I never walked away, Why I played myself this way, Now I see your testing me pushes me away. You can wait 'til the end of the fight if I get injured again, she said with a laugh, and then leaped forward again. The shade had picked himself up and was preparing to use magic again. Solarae's scales burst into flame and she opened her wings. With a roar, she jumped up and burned her way through the roof of the building.
Without warning, she plunged back into it behind the shade, catching him by surprise and knocking him to the ground, this time his skin a little burnt. Re: Coming home Paconio noticed how easily Solarae caught the shade by surprise. His bark is worse than his bite Paconio thought with a laugh. Using the distraction provided, Paconio tackled the shade to the ground. The shade tried to throw him off, but Paconio was too strong.
After minutes of struggle, the shade appeared to give up. Paconio put his sword to the shade's neck. "Now, tell me what you want with us, or die" Paconio said, his voice seeming evil and sinister.
