Tobias and Avalon

Skills: Tobias really doesn't have any skills. He uses a bow when he hunts for food, but he's an average shot. He knows how to fight with his fists, but any kid who grows up on the streets needs to be able to fight. Tobias has a dagger that he uses when he's really in a mess, but generally he tries to avoid causing permanent damage. Since he bonded with Avalon he's discovered the wonderful world of magic (and all the mischief he can get up to with it), but his strength is severely limited by his mediocre vocabulary in the Ancient Language. (And all of Alagaesia rejoiced that they were spared.)

Physical Description: Tobias is tall for his age, 5'3". He has longish red hair and big, baby blue eyes. His eyes have an ever present mischievous twinkle to them. He wears a green tunic with a brown shirt underneath and black pants. He prefers to go barefoot, but he keeps a pair of brown, soft leather boots in his knapsack. He also carries a long, brown cape with him wherever he goes. (It comes in handy when he's trying to hide from the city guards when he's on the run with a sack of apples.) Like any Rider, his physical strength was enhanced beyond that of a normal boy his age, but his body is lean. This is due to his growing up on the streets where square meals are rare. He has a small scar right by his left eye that he's had ever since he can remember. When Tobias bonded with Avalon, the newly hatched dragon touched him on his right hand, so his Gedwey Ignasia is on his right palm.

Character Personality: Tobias has no last name, but if he did, his middle name would certainly be "Trouble". He can't help it, he's a born mischief maker. Like any eleven year old boy he has a lot of energy, but that coupled with an ability to use magic, means that wherever he goes, he will find someway to make someone's day miserable. It's not that he's malicious, far from it, he's just overly fond of practical jokes. Aside from being a little heathen, Tobias also has a gentle, caring side. Whenever he sees a fellow street urchin in trouble, he has to help, he can't stop himself. Actually, if he sees anybody, rich or poor, being treated unfairly, he'll help them, no matter if it causes trouble for him. A rather strange thing about Tobias is that he always keeps his promises. That might not seem like such a big deal, but he is only 10 years old. He feels that as a Dragon Rider (even one who's still a child) he should keep his word, no matter what. Tobias also has a strong will, he knows what he wants and he'll figure out a way to get it. Either that or he'll pester Avalon into coming up with a plan of action. Overall Tobias is a great kid, but without a parental figure to keep him in line, the wild side of his personality dominates his good nature.

Character History: Tobias doesn't know who his mother and father are. He was abandoned on the doorstep of an orphanage when he was just a few weeks old. Unfortunately, the particular orphanage he was left at was run by a cruel, miserly old man. When he wasn't renting the orphans out to do hard labor in return for money and good beer, he was starving and beating them. And he particularly disliked Tobias for his mischievous ways. Whenever anyone came with a job that required the bigger boys, he always sent Tobias along with them, no matter that he couldn't keep up or do as much work as they could. Tobias vowed that he would get away from the orphanage, even if it killed him.
One day a man came to hire a group of boys to bust up some large boulders and move them away from his farm. The man in charge of the orphanage sent Tobias along, as usual. Tobias knew this was his chance, for the farm they were going to was ten miles from Therinsford. He quickly hid a small knife, a flint, and some tinder inside his tunic. When the wagon transporting them was a good ways from the town, Tobias slipped over the side and disappeared into the forest. The man who had paid the man at the orphanage did not notice he was gone until he was at his farm, but he didn't bother to go look for him. What would one puny boy be able to do on a man's job anyway?
Meanwhile, Tobias had stumbled upon something incredible. While he had been walking through the forest, the sun had reflected off of something. He walked over to it and couldn't believe his eyes when he saw what it was. He had found a silver dragon egg! As soon as he touched it, he knew he had to keep it. Using his knife, he cut some branches and his tunic, then built a pack for himself. Putting the egg in the pack, Tobias set off to leave Therinsford and the awful orphanage behind him.
He had been on the road for a few days when he felt the egg start to move. He quickly took the pack of and moved off the road into the shade of the trees. A few hours passed, filled with the sounds of the dragon inside scratching and pecking at the eggshell. Then all of a sudden the egg broke open and a small, silver dragon hatchling fell out into Tobias's lap. He reached out to touch it and the hatchling stretched out it's neck and nuzzled him on the palm with it's snout. Tobias cried out as pain wracked his body and he watched as the place the dragon touched him turned silver. Even as he looked from the silver mark to the hatchling, his pair bond, Tobias knew the dragon's name. Avalon.

Weakness/Fears: Tobias is scared of deep water because he almost drowned when he was five. He can swim, but he prefers not to.

Weapons: Tobias has a plain dagger with a black leather grip and a steel ball on the pommel. He also has a small bow that he uses for hunting. He makes his arrows himself.

The False Mirror: This is a sword he found in a tomb in some cave-like dwellings he explored in the rp Safe Haven. It is not made of brightsteel, but it was a Rider's weapon. No one is sure what kind of steel it's made from, for like Toby, the last person to own it, found it. The blade is short and broad, with a rounded tip. The guard is very short, extending out from the hilt only far enough to protect Toby's fingers from being smashed or cut by an enemy's weapon. The hilt itself is made of wood and is thin, with ridges to give his fingers a firm grip. The pommel and guard are gold and the hilt is stark white. There is a rather large diamond set in the pommel. Like elven swords, it never rusts, dulls, or chips. The unusual metal of the blade is smooth and always perfectly polished. It gets it's name from the fact that it's blade is so polished, you can see your reflection in it. False Mirror has many strange abilities. One of these allows Tobias to channel energy into the blade and create an image of Avalon or another of his allies sneaking up on any enemy he is fighting with. Also, if the blade is touching a person's bare skin, it alerts Toby to any lies told to him by a smoke-like haze crossing the blade. Toby doesn't know it, but the weapon can also alter itself to perfectly match it's owner. This will show itself as Toby grows and False Mirror changes with him.

Companions: His dragon, Avalon

Dreams for the future: To travel and have fun with Avalon, and to someday become the kind of Rider that people can look up to.

Reasons for dreams: He's a eleven year old who was recently granted immortality, of course he wants to have fun! Despite only being eleven, he knows how important his position as a Rider is and the impact he could have on the future. He takes this very seriously, but in the meantime, he's going to enjoy himself.

Appearance: Avalon, or Val for short, is a scintillating shade of silver. He likes to keep his scales clean (not out of vanity), but so he can use them to reflect light into his enemies faces. The cleaner his scales are, the brighter the light is when reflected. His eyes are silver as well, but they're so pale they look white. He's also a rather handsome dragon for one so young. His body is light and extremely aerodynamic. Val is obviously built for speed and accuracy (which complements his Rider's hyperactive temperament perfectly.) Avalon is only a few months old, so he's not very big yet. Like most male dragons, Val is heavier in the neck and chest than female dragons, but not as much as other males. He's only about 50 ft in length and about 12ft tall at the shoulder. His wingspan is around 100ft and his wing membranes aren't as long as they would be on a heavier dragon, which allows him to move with pinpoint accuracy. His tail is thin, like the rest of his body, with a cluster of spikes on the tip of his tail. The spikes on his body and tail are whiter than snow, as are his teeth and claws.

Personality: Avalon has been greatly influenced by Tobias, so don't blame him if he sets the tail of your cloak on fire. Besides being as much of a practical joker as his Rider, Val is also a thinker. Where Tobias is always eager to go, Val makes him sit and think before acting. If Tobias is in a city or town and he can't go with him, Val always flies overhead. Just like Tobias, Avalon can't stand to see someone being treated unfairly. On more than one occasion Tobias was barely able to stop him from entering a city to slaughter slave traders.

History: Avalon is only a few months old, so he really doesn't have much history. Tobias found his egg in the middle of the forest in Palancar Valley, but no other dragons or eggs were nearby. Val didn't hatch for Tobias until a few days after the boy found his egg, but he knew as soon as Tobias first touched his egg that this boy was destined to be his Rider. In the five and a half months since Avalon hatched, he's traveled a small part of Alagaesia with his Rider. The first time Tobias tried to ride him though, they had to stop because his scales were hurting Tobias. Soon afterward they (meaning Tobias) stole a couple of large blankets from a farmhouse, with which Tobias fashioned a very rough saddle.

During their travels, Toby and Val eventually stumbled upon new friends. Among these were the Rider Felecia, her dragon Ebony, his alter-ego Reona, and the dragon Equinox. They were briefly trained by Equinox, and in that time Toby managed to acquire a proper saddle for Avalon, so that now he's not in danger of falling off whenever Val does a complicated mid-air maneuver.

Skills: Val is probably the fastest dragon in Alagaesia. He instinctively knows how to move in the air in a way that will get the best results quickly.

Weapons: Recently Avalon learned how to breathe fire. His firebreath is a blinding shade of silver. If someone were to look at it for more than a few seconds, they would be completely blinded. (Only Tobias can look at it without being harmed, they think it's because of their bond.) Like any dragon, Val fights with his teeth and claws. He also uses his tail like a mace. It's generally a good idea to avoid his tail when he's mad, due to the spikes on the end.

Weakness/Fears: Avalon only has one great fear: losing Tobias.

Likes: Tobias, the sky, and the wilderness

Dislikes: Anyone that would hurt Toby

Dreams for the future: To always be with Tobias and to train and become a strong, mighty protector of his race.

Reasons for dreams: Tobias is his pair bond. Dragons were nearly wiped out by Galbatorix. Now that the evil king is dead, Avalon is determined to become strong so that if another should ever threaten his kind in such a way again he can fight the threat.
