Post Re: Ranger's Apprentice
*Cackles* Thank you for asking that! *Bows* I shall now explain to you the AWESOMENESS that is Ranger's Apprentice! ^?^

What it's about:

As for that, it depends on which of the ten (So far) books you're reading. The first one and a half books are about this young boy (Fifteen year old) named Will. He's an orphan and he wants to be a knight, but he's really small for his age and therefore not strong enough for the training. So instead he has to become apprentice to a Ranger, Halt. It's the job of a ranger to report to the king on how each fief is doing with training soldiers, they've also got to potral the fief, that sort of thing. Sometimes they work as scouts as well. Anyways, Will trains under Halt and, at the end of the first book, has to prove that he's worthy, in a way.

In the SECOND book Will's feeling a bit down and whatnot, so Halt sends him on a mission with a ranger closer to his (Wills') own age, and a trainee knight called Horace from the first book. They're investigating odd goings-on in another kingdom. While there they find a young girl named Evanlyn. From there Will, Horace, and Evanlyn get seperated from the ranger. That turns out to be a good thing because they learn the Dark Lord Morgaraths' plot, which they have to stop before it can be completed. They try to, but Will and Evanlyn get captured and taken across seas to a place called Skandia.

The next two books are about Will and Evanlyn trying to stay alive/escape from Skandia whil Halt and Horace try to find/rescue them. In conclusion to that particular adventure, book four has an amazing battle in which Will has to make the choice to either refuse to help the Skandians, or forget their cruelty to him and give them aid in the war between them and another country.

Books five and six are set after Will graduates, as in, now he's a full-fledged ranger and lives in his own fief, Seaclif. He's hardly there any time at all when he has to go on a solo mission to a place called Macindaw, a fief in the north where there have been reports of sorcery.

While there he finds out that there's a plot to kill the king, and he suspects the lord of the fief to be responsible. But, when the lord of the fief is struck with a terrible illness, Will has to smuggle him out of the castle to the safety of the forest. In the forest he finds out that the "Sorcery" is really just a misunderstood old man who turns out to be a healer. That done, he has to find a way to defeat the real villain.

With the aid of his lady friend, Alyss Mainwaring, he does indeed find out what's going on. But Alyss gets captured by the dark lord in the process. The main focus of the sixth book is Will trying to rescue her.

The seventh book goes back in time to when Will is his last year of apprenticeship. The Skandian Ober Jarl, Erak, has been taken prisoner by a group of desert nomads who wish to kill him. The seventh book focuses on Will, Halt, and some others trying to rescue Erak.

Sorry I can't tell you much about the last books; I haven't read them yet XD

Is it worth reading:

YES! I've never, NEVER, read a book series as good as Ranger's Apprentice. It's truly amazing, with great characters and believable plots, as well as fantastic flow that makes all of the storylines blend seamlessly together, with plenty of humour along the way. Along with the many exciting twists and turns that the books take, it makes for a great read no matter how old you are!

How many books are there:

Ten, so far. Probably more to come (But SO worth it to read them all)

Other details:

You're almost certain to fall in love with it, so wear a helmet while reading lol

Was that too long? Need anymore information? (It's a GREAT series!) ^?^

YOU FORGOT BOOK TEN: THE EMPORER OF NEHON-JA! EEP! *Huggles the book*

You...you're going to...read The King's of Clomnel? O_O *Goes rabid fangirl and tackle glomps you to steal the precious*

Yeah, Ruben, that's a downer. Because when you read RA you'll inevitably either go insane with rabid-fangirl-mania, or you'll be forever traumatized by other rabid fangirls. *Gets a glock* and now, to raid Australian Bookstore dot com....^?^

Oh, oops, sorry XP I didn't realize O_O

No, it's not a girl book. It was actualy written for the author, John Flanagans', son. And my friends' fifteen-year-old brother loves it too. It's pretty much good for anyone. ^?^

I started screaming at my Kindle at that point! I couldn't believe he would actually kill Halt! Though, you do have to admit, Halt has lived a little long. The mentor always dies! *huggles Halt* But I's don't want you to die! *cackles* But! It would cause boatloads of angst for Willers!

Will: She's insane, have you noticed?

That's not hard to do. :) Just looking at the covers of the books, you can tell they're awesome.

I have to say though, what I thought was really cool about them was when I read that the Rangers are based off of the Texas Rangers (among others, of course.) :D

I's convinced Scotland to read them!

I really always thought they were more like the Lord of the Rings rangers mixed with secret agents.

Post Re: Ranger's Apprentice
Well it's been exactly three months since anybody replied and I thought since the tenth book just came out, I'd bring this back. The latest book, the Emperor of Nihon-Ja came out just yesterday! Well, since yesterday was thirteen minutes ago, I can't really say that. I finished it with two minutes to spare before midnight. I won't say anything about the book since I know only Alya has read it, but I do have to say, IT WAS EPIC! Absolute, pure epicness! I want to write a fic now!

You know though, after I finished the book I just sat and thought about it for a minute. Then it finally hit me. It was all over. Ranger's Apprentice had ended. I had just finished the very last Ranger's Apprentice book. Then the tears started to roll. Now, fifteen minutes later, I'm starting to cry again because I'm being reminded all over again that it's over. The end of the epic tale of one ranger's apprentice who was a hero to all of Araluen.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

Ranger's Apprentice is really over? :(
I haven't really been keeping up with the series for quite a long time now ><"
I think the last one I read was Halt's Peril? Or maybe the one before that....:O

Did Emperor of Nihon-Ja have a good ending?

Pretty much. I mean, the next book is just short stories that fill in the gaps and the last one takes place 20 years later.

It sort of has the..... happily ever after ending.

Yer, but.... it just didn't seem right for this one. It's just that it felt like Will's adventures should go on forever and just a simple happy ending wasn't enough. For some stories it is, Harry Potter for example. But not Ranger's Apprentice.

Why is it that the drumbeats in "Too late to apologize" have made me tear up as I read the bit about the tenth being the last? :(

I'm getting the book as early as June 7....I can't believe it's over now! Next is just...just short stories and a time skip...

Oy, E&A and Alya, shall we torture Will as a way of mourning the loss of a great series?

Ooh! I'd love to hear about Gil! I've always loved Gil's character..... not sure why though...... That's probably why I stabbed him in DMTPH.

And Will had better get hurt in the short stories. 'Cause if he doesn't I will be extremely unhappy. Come on! Ten books of waiting and still nothing!

Well, when characters get hurt it makes them sort of react to things differently, puts them on a new level, different playing field. It's mostly just fun to see how they do in the different resulting situations. Like, it makes things just a bit harder, that way when they make it through a situation (At long last) It's a bit more of a victory than it would have been otherwise. And you get to see the other characters' reactions, get in their heads a bit more. It provides an all around "Let's get to know everyone just a bit better" type of thing. Except when it's a character we don't like anyway, in which case we don't really care to read about their pain and how sorry everyone feels for them. We're only really interested when it's someone we like XD

That and E&A's just a sadist lol ^;^

Fair judgement, that, E&A? XP

And if I may add to what Curfew says, the injury of that character often results in fluff which I am personally quite addicted to. For some reason it gives off a very interesting sense of pleasure to read about, or write about in the case of fanfiction, your favorite character being tortured or injured. *shrugs* I have no idea why whatsoever. And considering that I've liked that for a scarily long time (no really, ten years ago I liked it) it is quite odd.

And why thank you, Curfew! *grins* And..... I probably shouldn't be taking being called a sadist as a compliment, should I?

I can agree to a certain point but I believe that Will has been pulled down many times....personal opinion though....but I guess an injury or two couldn't hurt....

Trust me, I noticed. How many stories with female rangers are there now! Remember when that fandom was the cleanest one around? No Sues and no slash? Heck, remember when there was only eight pages of fics?

I should probably update Didn't Mean To Play Hero as well....

In Friendly Foe? No blood? Hm...could've sworn there was a bit....*Shudders* Some of those descriptions were rather icky...hope Will gets sorted soon, but I haven't seen the Bard in quite a bit now. Oh, have you read her "Blood Eagle"? That one is rather queasy-making, but still pretty good ^;^

Ew...entirely too many...And almost all of them wind up romantically involved with one of the mains. It's so annoying. Although, come to think of it, it used to be an idea of mine to have a girl attempt to become a ranger (Failing miserably from the time of the request) but never like that....ew..

Although it would be funny to see a guy become a courier, for way of reverse y'know? XD

Naw...I don't believe I's read that one yet because of the spoilers...*Wince* but doesn't Will get himself shot in that one? *Cheers*

They typically end up with Gilan, i've noticed. Probably because he doesn't exactly have a girl in the books even though he definitely seems to like Jenny.

Why yes, he does! *grins evilly at Will* With a poisoned arrow too!

*Wails* HOW COULD IT END???? Oh gosh...that last book...So good...but I missed Tug, I found the profounnd lack of Tug nothing less than PROFOUND! WHY wasn't Tug there? I mean, I know that logically he couldn't have been there...but still...I missed him...and Will needs his pony and his puppy...they make him who he is...*Sniffle*

But, other than that, I loved the ending! It left so much room for speculation...couldn't have gotten much better than that....

Well, now I'm thinking about writing something that's shortly after the ending...but then I also thought of like two others; What if it's Will who gets attacked by the snow tiger? And what if Will got...well...*Sniggers*
