Yeah, his name's Jarsha. They don't necessarily have to be new, just unexpected and unusual. Somebody like Angela or Jarsha. (Though I suspect Angela used to be a Rider and lost her dragon...)

Angela's old and Jarsha is too weak. That's why Arya and only Arya works: strength, training, the fact she's a female, and she'd stand a chance against both Galby and Murtagh.

Elva won't be the next Rider, because she is way to young. Would you want it on your conscience that you sent a 1yr old girl to fight a man 3x her size? It would be slaughter. Not to mention what would happen if she had to fight Urgals or Kull.

As for Jarsha, he's not to weak because the dragon would amplify his strength like Saphira did to Eragon's. Arya is from a younger generation than elves. She's probably just a little older than Vanir and there are ppl on here who say he'll be the next Rider. So really at this point in the game, it could be anybody, and I do mean ANYBODY.

I dunno about her dragon. That might not be very good for it's health, I mean, we don't even know if Elva harmed her own health by forcing herself to do that.

it is probably not good for both of them. that's why i think it will probably not be elva, considering her curse. that is, unless eragon releases her and then she becomes rider.

Even that won't work, because she'll still be to small. In the future, when there are more dragon eggs (thanks to Saphira and the green dragon. ) it might be true, but for now, it won't happen.

I don't know why do you keep thinking that ordinary slimy peasant with huge hammer can possibly become dragon rider. There is nothing special about Roran except he's strory-breaker (i seriously didn't like what he had done in Eldest). HE SHOULD HAVE DIED!

I don't think Katrina will die, and I don't think she'll be the next Rider. I don't think it will be Roran either. I don't want it to be Arya, but she's the one who makes the most sense. I personally want it to be someone unexpected, like Jarsha.

That brings memories. Like I used to claim that Eragon is going to end up with Angela because it was making same sence as Eragon + Arya. So we have powerfull alechemist. With all this chemical stuff in skies she should be able to kill whole army on her own (yay chemical weapons) and Eragon just take care of the tough ones (murtagh, galby + slimy peasants).

I'm sorry, but the Varden doesn't have 1-2 years. Maybe they have 6 months, but that's IT. Eragon took a LOT of time to train. They can't just take 1-2 years off! they are moving in NOW!!!

eragon didnt take that long to train. besides its not like roran has had absolutly no combat expierience at all. eragon had no combat expirience what so ever when he became a rider so he was a complete beginner in all forms of combat, at least roran has fought a little giving him some experience.

uh, it was a LONG time with Brom plus the time with Murtagh when Eragon trained himself. That was a bit less than 1/2 a year, THEN his training at Ellesmera took a while, so it was, in all, near a year.

very true, time is short, not for the book, but for the varden, cus galby doesnt take vacations at beach resorts while his enemies are training powerful dragon riders. at least i dont' think he does.

and bashing someone in the head doesn't contribute much to sword combat, i mean, i can do that,

well first of all murtagh didnt train him so that doesnt count, and brom ghad to teach eragon how to fight from the begining, and roran has had fighting expierience so its a different story.

he has experience with a HAMMER, which doesn't count. And yes, self training in spells counts.

well self training isnt nearly as efective though. and at least he has fought before.

we don't even know if Roran can use a BOW. All he has under his belt is an adrenaline-induced-killing spree in which he killed a bunch of people.

im gusseing that arya will be the new dragon rider kus shes stronger than eragon and she probally has more experixance than galby. plus she is one of the strongest elves because it even stated in the first book that shes not normal even among the elve

well not really, galby is much stronger than arya and older and nothing says shes stronger than ost elves.

i dont' remember if it says she was stronger or special, but it might have, i haven't read them in a while

roran can use a bow, but he's not as good as eragon, by far(early on in eldest, when he sees the soldiers while hunting)

Quite frankly I think most evidence points to Arya.

1. Arya's magic is green. Though I do not recall Paolini ever stating that a Rider's magic MUST match his/her dragon, I think it's safe to assume it does.
2. If Arya IS the next Rider, being royalty will not stop her. It is known that the elves are very capable of finding a willing replacement. And, I have a feeling Arya will think is best that a rider never be in permanent rule, as this would be as bad as that of Galbatorix.
3. Also, since it is safe to additionally assume that Arya is the figure of Eragon's "epic romance", it makes sense that her dragon (a male, correct?) and Saphira could mate successfully, seeing as Eragon along with Saphira would become... bonded;along with Arya. But there are many things that could go very wrong with this. Though Arya is scared of a relationship with Eragon, as it would interfere with the work of the Varden ect., we never really learn Arya's the whole true feelings about Eragon, unless you add in the maturity factor.

I think that Arya's gonna be the new rider as well, because she has that special skill of magic and swordsmanship but CP may suprise us so well just have to wait for the 3rd and 4th books, I dont think Roran will be it because hes having his own little adventure and vanir baseically disappears from the story after hes beaten.

Hi all,

OK so I've got a few theories about who the final Rider will be:

1. Arya
This seems to be the most likely for a few reasons. Being an elf, Arya would know a great deal about magic, and also dragons, considering she has spent most of her life ferrying Saphira's egg between the Ellesmera and the Varden. She's also a skilled fighter, witnessed in Book 3 when she managed to defeat the Shade. Also, her magic is green - the same colour as the unhatched dragon.

2. Roran
While this may be quite likely, I don't think it will be Roran. His relationship with Katrina means too much to him and I don't think he would be able to stand the thought of her growing older while he remains virtually unchanged. It wouldn't be fair to Katrina OR their unborn child. However, the few things that have made me think this could happen are: Roran has grown stronger and stronger throughout the last 2 Books, thus making him a worthy candidate to become a Rider. Next (although not necessarily relevant) he is Eragon's blood, and considering Eragon's half brother has become a Rider, it's possible that member's of Eragon's family show more of the attributes necessary to become Riders. Roran has also shown an interest in learning magic, which Eragon tries to teach him some of the basics - this could play an important part in the 4th Book. Lastly, (and again, not entirely relevant) the green Riders sword Tamerlin is stated to have been designed for someone who favours more of a slash and bash fighting technique. While this is indeed Roran's fighting style, the sword itself might not be suitable for Roran. I personally would LOVE to see Rhunon try and forge a Rider's Hammer out of the remaining Brightsteel - it would certainly be interesting to see (and she wouldn't be breaking her oath of forging swords).

3. Nasuada
While not as likely as the above two theories, I have my reasons for considering Nasuada. She has shown great courage and determination while with the Varden (e.g. fighting during the Battle of Farthen Dur while the women and children were evacuated, her test of the Long Knives etc) which makes her a good candidate to become a Rider. Also, her mother has been mentioned numerous times throughout the novels, but her identity still remains a mystery. Surely this couldn't just be a coincidence? I think her mother COULD be (but not necessarily) Selena, thus making her Eragon's half-sister, and also confirming my point above about Eragon's family member's showing the right traits to become Riders. My only problem with this theory is that if this were the case, Eragon's mother would have given birth to 3 children - all to different men. Plus with Eragon and Nasuada being almost the same age, it seems quite improbable that she would have found the time to develop a relationship with Ajihad so soon before/after Brom.

4. Orik
OK this one is HIGHLY improbable, however I think it should be considered. Although the dwarves were never part of the spell that the Dragons and Elves created for the Riders, it's quite possible that the dragon could hatch for Orik of it's own accord. This could be a case of the Dragons using their magic to somehow allow dwarves into the mix. If a new era of Riders are being ushered in, this would certainly be a good way to do it! Also, Orik has ridden on Saphira before and mentioned that he quite enjoyed the experience (although he does prefer his feet on the ground - although Eragon felt this way at first too).

Personally, I'm in favour of Arya becoming the next Rider as she seems the most skilled for the job. However I'd still love to see ANY of the above people become a Rider!

its ARYA!!!!!!!! (like i even needed to say that, im a HUGE arya next rider fan)

thats because Eragon is Saphira's rider. When saphira was in her egg she was waiting for eragon to be present so she could hatch. the green dragon is waiting for its rider.

I think the next rider is going to be arya because shes not close to anyone. the green dragon will complete her.

It will probably be Arya... But really I'm open to others but I can’t really see them being as probable as Arya, this is of course with the exclusion of Vanir though! Mainly because CP says that he hints at the next rider in the third book and Vanir is not mentioned once. Also Vanir is a snobby prick and shows next to no redeeming qualities in the second book... not exactly the person you would want your next dragon rider to be hey? I’m sorry if you think it’s him and this upsets you but please realise that I would welcome any intelligent reason for it to be him, but up to this point I have not seen any reasonable reason for it to be so and have only being aggravated by the inane and backless claims of him being the next rider.

PS: I’m not presuming that I’ve read all of the forums and that there is no possible reason for him to be next in there, I’m just asking for articulated reasons and not the usual random guesses of people with nothing beyond blind hope, I would be happy to be corrected on this Issue.

I think Arya will be the 3rd Dragon Rider. I thought about this for a while, and now I am convinced. She already has the basic skills, like excellent fighting and magic, to be the next rider and I think CP will choose a character that won't be completely lost in their new position.

I said this somewhere else but I will say this again:

Arya - emerald eyes, green magic, GREEN dragon, already has training.

On top of this Paolini may play off her and Eragon's helping each other (Arya helped Eragon kill Durza, Eragon helped Arya kill the other shade in Feinstar). This is just how literature works.

I also believe that Arya will use Talheim as her rider's sword (the EMERALD one)
