I do know that he trained in the Dark arts with a Shade, and I have considered that possibility. I mean how else can his power be growing?

In some ways yes, but I still dought it. I meanthere is the possiblity that he was an inexperienced shade and needed help from a tougher one, but that is very VERY unlikly.

Like brom said, a dragon would never bear to carry a Ra'zac and I am thinking that a shade would be the same. Also, didn't it say somewhere that to be a rider you must be human or elf because only elfs dragons and humans are joined and that is y there has never been a dwarf rider? this points in the direction that even if skrewkiun was twisted by dark magic that he would never have chosen Galby as his rider because he couldn't have. because of the joining.

Ppl, let's take a moment to reflect on who we're talking about. Aside from what we already know, that he's frickin' evil, what do we suspect. Other than that he's a Shade. I think, repeat I THINK, that maybe he became a Shade after he used Dark magic on Shruikan. Then maybe the dragon didn't have a choice but to carry him.

Well, I read a few of the Book 3 spoilers (that somebody who claimed to work for CP posted), and it mentioned Galby being a shade.

I've only read suspicions that galby is a Shade, so if he turns out to be I'm blaming Firetongue for ruining it. (Just joking).

I hope he isn't a shade. I think that would ruin the whole story. I really don't know y I think that, but i think that.

I'm sorry I don't have eragon book with me now-- can anyone give description about spesific appearance of a shade? i mean-- was a shade will ALWAYS have a pale face and red hair like durza ?

Now that I think about it, it only ever gave a description of Durza. But Eragon just looked at Durza in Gilead and knew he was a Shade. So I guess that all Shades look the same... But I've just thought of a way to bypass that. When Murtagh told Eragon his story in Farthen Dur, he never described what galby looked like, but he certainly described the way he talks. I can't remember exactly what it was that he said though.

Yea. i think so because as saphirarox said, Eragon knew it was a shade. He said it had red hair, a pale face that was nearly transparent, and other such thinks about him.

now that you mention it in both books it never once said whet galby looked like so it is possible that he might be a shade.

Yea, but I can invision him. I saw who was playing the part of Galby in the movie, I think it is the same guy who played COunt Duku. I think they hit the perfect guy to play galby in the movie.

not even a twisted dragon would carry a shade. because shades are worse then ra'zac, and dragons will not carry ra'zac. therefore, galby not shade. and i doubt that CP would let them post it, if he found out he may change it just so that guy would be shamed (i would) or, he fires him so theres not more spoilers.

Shades can prbably trick a dragon if they are powerful enough. I mean part of the spirit possesing them, could also posses the dragon, right?

Getting back on track, the only way for a shade to become a rider is for it to do the same thing that Galbatorix did, which is highly unlikely.

Everyone seems to forget the fact that Shruikan didn't hatch for Galby. Soon after Gably met Morzan they found a rider, killed him, then kept the dragon alive using magic and named it Shruikan. So since Shruikan never hatched for Galby, and saying that Galby is a shade, it is possible that Galby is forcing Shurikan to obey him. However I think Galby is getting his power from the Vault of Souls.

look, its just obvious a shade cant be a rider.(okay, i know its not obvious but..it just is)lol. yes galby did steal shruikan(sp?) but in the book it certainly said galby was human and if a shade could b one, how come durza didnt come riding on a dragon when he met eragon?

Because he's not a rider... Oh, I see what your saying he could have force a dragon to carry him. But there arn't any live dragons left that do't have a rider and he can't force Greenie to hatch. idk if any1 played the eragon game but,at the final battle,it shows durza riding a shadow dragon spirit thingy....and even tho hes no rider,he conjured up that weird spirit thing and rode it like as dragon

a dragon would never choose a shade to be their rider! and i believe only 3 shades have been killed: 1. killed by dragon rider
2. killed by elf

i don't seem to recall there being another shade killed, but back on the topic: no, i do not think shades could become riders. dragons are supposed to be good (the only reason shruikan serves galby is because he is under a spell) and they would/should only be choosing good people for riders. and shades are sorcerors possesed by evil spirits!
