The Pursuit (Open)
OCC: Preferably a char with the empire would be welcome.
Two figures dashed across a grassy field into a woodline. A man almost as large as a bear and draped in torn dirty rags dropped to the ground and leaned his back against the trunk of a tree breathing heavily. "No, no... more. I need to rest" Atakai told Rothgar. Another prisoner he escaped with from the Varden prison camp of Osirus. The other man weak from malnutrition sat down next to Atakai also breathing heavily. "Ok pup" The man replyed. "But only for a minute. We cant stay still or rest until we reach a empire patrol. Were still in rebel country"
These two were the lucky ones. The mass break out and rioting left more dead then alive. The survivors scattering to the four winds. Rothgars reason for fleeing with Atakai was no secret. He already told the large man his intent to put in orders for Atakais transpher from the army regulars to the dragon slayer order. Atakais feat at the battle of Elru was no secret at the prison. In fact it got him beatings on a daily basis. Atakai had slain a Varden dragon. Some slayers trained there entire lives and never got such a honor. Yet here was a common soldier with a claim. Rothgar saw potential.
Atakai's breathing had returned to some normalcy and the burning in his chest no longer raged like a wild fire. Rothgar patted him on the chest. "Cmon lad. On your feet" Atakai did not respond right away until Rothgar forced him up with encouraging words. "We stay here we die. On your feet soldier"
The two ran some more until they stopped across dozens of burned human corpses that could not be recognized. Though they were probably escaped prisoners like them. Rothgar saw them first and held up a hand across Atakais chest to keep him from moving forward. The older man scanned the sky. "Dragons, ok lad this is the plan. We dont leave the cover of these woods and go in the open like those poor souls. We follow the woodline until we can cross open ground. When we do, move with a perpose" The man lowered his arm and motioned for Atakai to follow. "Dont let the dragon fear take hold of your heart boy. Focus on the task at hand"
Atakai was to tired to even respond. All he could think of was rest. All this running was taking its tall on him.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Salzarar ran through the Empire, his stamina never ending, and eventually reached the rebel country, close to the Varden. Galbatorix had sent Salzarar to retrieve a man. One who Salzarar regards with high respect, even though Salzarar had never met the man before. However, when news of a common soldier killing a dragon had reached Galbatorix's ears, Salzarar had practically begged to escort the man back into the Empire for curiosity of meeting this odd human. Galbatorix had accepted, knowing of Salzarar's interest in killing dragons, and trusted that Salzarar would keep the man safe. And keep him safe I will, Salzarar repeated in his mind again and again.
Salzarar sniffed the air, smelling the familiar scent of burnt corpses. Dragons, he growled. In the distance, Salzarar recognized two men. That must be them! he thought. There were dragons close, no doubt. Either way, Salzarar would revel in slaying them, should they appear.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Atakais companion held up his hand as the concealment and cover of vegetation ran out. Kneeling down next to the older veteran slayer Atakai attempted to catch his breath again. "I will go first" The man said. "Count to five and then follow. We need to keep space between us" The man ran out of the woodline into the open and Atakai started to count. When he was done Atakai took off in pursuit.
The slayer who's name would be forgotten by history had saved Atakai's life in his strategy. The two of them never saw the shadow until it was to late and Atakai just stared in horror as a stream of flame from above eveloped Rothgar leaving the veteran slayer a charred corpse on the ground. Atakai stood paralyzed in shock from seeing a man who he had spent almost a month in prison with die in the blink of an eye.
The silver dragon with the body paint of the Varden colors roared at Atakai and swung a claw. Reacting almost to late he rolled under the swiping claw and stood back up. With no weapons he did the only thing he could do. The giant of a man punched the dragon in the jaw with his right hand cuasing a couple of its teeth to fly out. Effective, but not really that intelligent as Atakai broke the bones in his hand on impact with a noise that sounded like breaking chicken bones.
Atakai yelled in pain. It was cut short as the dragon backhanded him in the chest with a foreclaw sending the human flying back several feet. Grunting from the impact and trying to reclaim the lost breath after having a broken rib puncture his lung. The giant of a man groaned on the ground while holding his chest with his good hand. The dragon closed in for the kill but turned its head after being blinded by a magical light that came from the knecklace around Atakai's kneck. Its guard was down. A possibly fatal error.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
The dragon surprised even Salzarar. It seemed to appear out of nowhere, and through a stream of fire, one of the men was burnt to a corpse. Salzarar cursed, That better not have been the Dragon Slayer...Galbatorix would kill me if I let him die, Salzarar said and charged quickly as the other man, who, now that Salzarar was up close, looked more like a bear than anything. Salzarar sighed in relief, So the man is alive. It's a shame I couldn't save his friend, but what matters right now is saving the human! The dragon struck the human several times, and he flew to the ground, landing harshly.
Salzarar was close to the dragon now, and he placed one hand around his sword, drawing it, but then squinted as a bright flash of light blinded him. However, the dragon was standing in the direction of most of the flash, so a most of it didn't reach Salzarar. Salzarar jumped up, impaling his blade into the dragon's back. The dragon reared back, and Salzarar pulled his sword free, jumping off of the dragon's back as it fell to the ground, taken by surprise from the flash of light and the blade that had been stabbed in it's back. Salzarar landed on the ground and rolled before pointing his palm at the dragon. After muttering several words from the Ancient Language, his palm glowed, and a black beam shot from his hand, hitting the dragon in the chest. It roared and fell on it's side, but Salzarar wasn't sure if it was dead or not. He cautiously walked around the dragon, stopping near the human. "Are you Atakai Crowe?" Salzarar asked.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
The blinding light faded as quickly as it came when the dragon fell dead to the ground. It ended so fast thinking briefly back to the first time he killed a dragon this guy made him look like the amatuer he was. Atakai was not a fan of none humans. Something this guy clearly was not, as demonstrated by the speed, agility, and power no human had. But the stranger saved his life and thus commanded respect. As the stranger did a walk around of the dragons body Atakai kept groaning at the pain of his broken hand and ribs.
The mans quiestion came as a needed distraction. "Yes" Atakai replyed with a pain racked voice. The breath came with difficulty at the punctured lung and internal hemoraging from the broken ribs. Standing up Atakai let the arm with the broken hand hang at his side. His left hand holding his chest. "I take it your with the empire. Where is everyone else?" Atakai looked around but saw none. "Dont tell me they just sent you? The empire really expects to rescue hundreds of POW's from the prison camp with just one man". The soldier clearly misunderstood the situation. Salzarar was apparently here for him, and only him.
Atakai gave a cough that rumbled deep in his chest and some blood ran out of the corner of his mouth. "My wound is mortal. Leave me. Help the others. The rebels are merciless and will kill us all" As far as Atakai was concerned. He was just one man. When compared to dozens of others, he was nothing. Sitting back down slowly in defeat he contemplated on the thoughts of never seeing his wife again.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
"You overestimate Galbatorix, human," Salzarar said with a chuckle. "Galbatorix sent me, and only me to bring you, and only you back to Uru'baen. Even if I did rescue the prisoners, how would we transport all of them to Uru'baen when they are undoubtedly injured by those rebels? I cannot afford to heal all of them," Salzarar said.
"No, we cannot rescue them. It's a miracle that I managed to find and bring you back." Salzarar glanced towards the corpse of the fallen human, "He was a brave man, and will be remembered well. However, I apologize, but we aren't going to be able to rescue the other prisoners. Don't ask why. When Galbatorix heard of you slaying that dragon, he immediately asked if one of his servants could retrieve you from the rebels. You wish to become a Dragon Slayer, do you not? Galbatorix considers you superior to an ordinary soldier, and would most likely grant you the position."
He glanced at the Atakai's injuries. He wouldn't be able to make it back to Uru'baen so wounded, and even if he managed it, it would only make things worse. "You need healing before you can travel again," Salzarar said, before his palm glowed a bright green and he placed it over the soldier's wounds.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Atakai listened to his rescuer and his heart sank at the news that the others could not be saved. Looking back up at the none human Atakai said with great difficulty said with great difficulty in reply to being a dragon slayer. "My wants are not my own. When I volunteered and joined the army I swore my sword and myself to king and country." He looked back down at the ground and gave a ragged cough sending more blood out. "I go where I would be of most use. It is not my place, a simple commoner, to question my king" There was a a pause before he added. "My lord" At least the human accepted his position as being lower then Salzarar's in society. The tone of the mans voice though sounded like he had no desire to be a dragon slayer. There were of course other options. Such as knighthood. It would not only raise his status in society. But provide a symbol. A hero that the common man could look up to. A hero and morale boost the kings army desperatly needed.
Atakai did not raise his head as the strangers hand was placed on his chest. Atakai was struck with trepidation at first. He was suspitious of magic as most common soldiers of his caste. But the doubts fled as he felt the broken ribs reposition and mend along with the punctured lung with them. The weight and pain in his chest gone, Atakai stood back up filled with new life and energy. "You have my thanks my lord" Atakai looked at the corpse of his friend Rothgar and regretted in the man not being laid to rest proper. But the area was still to dangerous to linger. "The battle plan sir?" Atakai questioned.
It was to early to truly tell what the large mans fate would be. But it would be intresting indeed.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
IC: "That's an answer I expected from a true soldier," Salzarar said. Normally, he wouldn't act so casual around someone, but Salzarar had always respected fellow dragon slayers, being one himself. "You need not address me in such a manner. I am of a high rank, but you are a fellow dragon slayer, at least, that's what probably will happen, so that alone demands respect, so formalities are not desired. By me at least," Salzarar added. Well, hopefully the man would develop into a dragon slayer. While he has slain a dragon, Salzarar couldn't guarantee that he would become apart of the dragon slayers, although he most likely would.
"As for a battle plan, that depends on how you feel. I healed your injuries, but you may be lacking in energy. If so, I will transfer some to you, and we will continue. If not, then we shall continue anyways. It is a short journey to Uru'baen from here, but we haven't left the rebel's area yet, so it is best to be cautious," Salzarar advised, before surveying the area around him.
"I think we are out of reach from any other dragons of the varden, but just in case," Salzarar bent over, slitting the previously alive dragon's neck, and blood quickly poured from the wound. "This will serve as a reminder to any followers. If only human soldiers are after us, then seeing the merciless death of another one of their dragons alone will probably strike fear into their minds. Now, do you have enough energy for the rest of the journey?" Salzarar asked.
OOC: When we reach Uru'baen, do you want to be the one to control Galbatorix when we speak with him?

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Atakai listened as he opened and closed his formerly broken hand in wonderment after noticing it was also healed. Speaking without looking up Atakai said. "Your humility honors me sir. I shall address you as a equal then. At least until we reach the capital and in the company of others. Such behavior is socially unacceptable. Status and holding you must understand. Is important among my people"
The large man walked up to Salzarar and gave what he thought a normal pat on the shoulder. But the mans strength, like his size, was unusual for a human. "No need kind sir. The grace of your magic has filled me with life and perpose. Where energy fails, the constitution of my spirit will prevail.
The man was not pleased with the cutting of the dragons throat surprisingly enough. The furrowing of his eyebrows indicated as much. But his voice remained the same when he spoke. "Was that really nessesary master dragon slayer? The opponent was defeated and unlikely to battle again for some time. The rules of war set down by the kings of old state" The man cut himself off from there only adding sadly. "Right, such honor does not exist anymore save in fairytales." The man took and knee before the dead dragon in a moment of rarely seen respect and spoke.
Creator, when the soul of this departed reaches the gate of paradise I would ask you kindly, to let him in.
The dragon slayers methods were not his way. But it was not his place to the none human otherwise. Standing back up the large man cleared his throat. "Right then. Lead on master slayer. I have your back. Though a weapon would bring my heart more comfort"OCC: I have only read the first book a long time ago and have no idea how the kings personality would be. Could you take control so I can take notes and get a idea for future reference when the need arise I should take the kings point of view.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
OOC: Alright, I'll do him, but it's probably not going to be the most accurate representation of Galbatorix. However, I will try my best at it. Gah, I thought I posted in this a few days ago, but I accidentally saved it as a draft instead. >__<
Salzarar was surprised at the man's strength as he patted him on the back. While it didn't match his own, it was certainly impressive for a human. He indeed would make a fine dragon slayer with his monstrous strength.
"This dragon holds information on both you and me, Atakai, which would prove useful to the rebels. They could use that information against us. While we could mess with the dragon's mind and remove it's memory, a skilled magician would be able to realize that it's mind has been tampered with. I know that death isn't always necessary, but sometimes, war can be like that. Sometimes, death is for the best," Salzarar said, but truthfully, he was reveling at the dragon's death. He could never forget the feud between his race and dragons.
At the human's comment about a weapon, Salzarar thought about letting Atakai borrow his whip for the duration of the trip, but a whip was an unusual weapon, and if the human didn't know how to use it, he would end up hitting himself. Salzarar wielded his greatsword, and offered it to Atakai. "It is a heavy weapon, but with your strength, you should be able to wield it well with both of your hands," Salzarar said, holding the blade out. "However, I will need it back when we reach Uru'baen. There, I'm sure Galbatorix with smith you a weapon upon becoming an official Dragon Slayer," Salzarar said.
Soon, the large, black city could be made out in the distance, probably some few miles away still. However, their journey was close to being over, and they would reach Uru'baen shortly.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Atakai smiled when his new ally offered the double edged sword. "Ah" He said in his kind deep voice. "A fine weapon indeed." The man took the weapon by the hilt and gripped it with both hands to test its weight. "Impressive indeed, Tis it made from the rare ore of a fallen star?" He had heard of such weapons. But they were almost as illusive as the dragons themselves. He was use to using such weapons. Though he prefered to use a claymore and shield.
"Have no worry master slayer. When we reach Uru'baen I shall return it. If my new dutys is to be a dragon slayer I expect to recieve a fine blade and armor. I have come to understand the order of dragon slayers is provided the best the empires smiths can fashion. He was done talking now and his thoughts drifted to his future. Slayers were suppose to be the finest of mankinds warriors. To join there ranks a honor without equal. But to hunt such mighty creatures as dragons braught a chill to his spine. Atakai assumed it a normal feeling for new recruits before they ship off to the dragon slayer acadamy for training. The slaying of a dragon was one of the final tests that many waited years for before earning the title and rank of 'dragon slayer'. "Well, I guess I knocked out the hard part" He thought. It is a thought he would come to change in the next coming weeks when the training started.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Salzarar raised his eyebrows at the human's knowledge. "You must know the ore well if you can recognize it so easily," Salzarar said, slightly amused. "You can expect to get a weapon of equal value when you join the Order," Salzarar said.
He sensed the human's distress, and chuckled, "Killing a dragon is the hardest part about being a Dragon Slayer, and you have slain one and helped in the slaying of another. Furthermore, this is before you have even went through any training, which shows promise. Do not worry about what lies ahead, as with great practice, the art of slaying a dragon can only get easier and flow better." Salzarar remembered when he had slain his first dragon. It was before he had met Galbatorix, so it was when he was in his Skeletoid form. The fight had been very intense, and it had involved plenty of injuries on both sides, but in the end, Salzarar came out on top. He could remember the dragon's deformed figure clearly even now.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Atakai gave a nervous chuckle at Salzarar's words. "I dont see how it can get any easier. But as long as I dont end up being a dragon chew toy I can deal with it. As for the weapon" The large man shrugged. "I am not that familiar with it. I just made a guess. All us foot soldiers have heard of dragon slayers armor and blades being forged from the rare ores of fallen stars. Crysm I think it is called. You are a slayer so I just assumed." The man let out a barking laugh of amusement.
His face turned serious though after a thought came to mind. "Are slayers allowed pets? I have an Ostroja I saved and raised as a hatchling. Not very smart, but loyal and good companions. I just hope my friend back at the barracks did not sell her to nobility." Before marching to battle that ended in his capture Atakai had left his pet behind.
The dark city grew closer. And Atakai only hoped a archer with the city guard did not decide to put a arrow in him.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
"I don't see why not. I have seen a Dragon Slayer with a pet dragon before. He was greatly saddened when he was forced to murder it himself," Salzarar said, a smirk on his face. He remembered that day, but only because a dragon had died. "Don't worry about that. Galbatorix may be strict, but as of right now, you are an honored arrival. He will not be unreasonable, I assure you," Salzarar said. While he wasn't very close to Galbatorix, he respected the man.
The gates to the dark city were now around a hundred yards away, and patrols of guards littered the grounds, passing back and forth, their dull at their simple, boring job. When they reached the gates of the city, Salzarar pulled out his whip and stretched it out fully, it's make evident to the guards at the gates. "I am Salzarar, and I have arrived with the potential Dragon Slayer," he said in the Ancient Language.
The guards moved to the side soundlessly, and the gates opened as if by verbal command. "Now we approach the castle," Salzarar murmured.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Atakai chuckled. "Well I would not call it a dragon per say. They are more akin to wyverns and dont grow bigger then cats. Just as effectionate to, with the loyalty of a dog" He paused before adding. "Its no wonder they are popular pets with noble familys. The silly little things live as long as dragons and be passed down from generation to generation.
"I just really hope the king is in a merciful mood. Not only to let me keep it despite the fact I am not a noble."Having an Ostroja for a pet was limited to those of noble blood. The penalty of possesing such a pet was generally punishable by death. "But also because I like my head where it is.... on my shoulders. I do not want to be a scapegoat for the massacre at Elru." As one of his majestys soldiers he was well aware of people assuming blame for the failures of there leaderships judgement. Anyone so long as the people had someone to blame. Atakai hoped his fate would be different. But with the rumors of the king being mad with age. He was not so sure.
"I have heard rumors of my great king" Atakai spoke again before they neared the gates. This was a difficult subject and had to be tackled carefully. Ill words against the king were marks of treason. "Is there any advice you have for me? Advice on how not to upset his majesty? I know the basics of addressing royalty. But there are rumors I hope are not true" He referred to the madness. "I pray these wispers are only propaganda spread by the rebels that seek to throw our great empire into chaos."
As they stood before the gates and they opened Atakai was filled with trepidation. "If I survive this my wife is going to kill me..... to the castle then. I hope they have somwhere for me to clean up and get more courtly attire befitting of being in our great leaders presence" Atakai raised an arm and smelled at himself before wrinkling up his face and turning it away. "I smell like human waste and death"

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
"If a soldier presents bad news to the King, make sure that you are not there," Salzarar advised grimly. "I was there when Galbatorix heard that the Ra'zac were killed, and I was also there when Murtagh and Thorn reported their failures in capturing Eragon and Saphira. The King was especially not happy when Murtagh had lost to Oromis. Well, that would have been what happened had Galbatorix not interfered.
"Our King has the best plans for the future, but he just isn't the best of accomplishing them without anger, which is what his servants are for. Also, you must remember that when Galbatorix lost his dragon, the Riders did nothing to calm him down. Rather, they just brought their deaths on themselves," Salzarar said, venom at their mistakes evident in his voice. "Anyways, yes, you might want to clean up before we visit the King. Proper manners and etiquette also help to make a good first impression. As for your pet, I wouldn't worry about it. If you work for Galbatorix in a good position, you can pretty much consider yourself a noble."
The castle was soon in sight. A group of guards stood at the gates to the large, brick castle. "Don't speak until we reach Galbatorix. The guards will hardly listen to you unless you work in a well-known position under him. They are ignorant," Salzarar murmured.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Atakai listened to his companion and took in his wise words of advice. "I will strive then not to be the one to deliver bad news. I want to say I understand the kings anger in the loss of his dragon. But that would be a lie. And I dont lie. I have heard that one with such a bond never recovers. But I have no doubts, especially now, that the king only has the best of intentions." Atakai shivered a bit in thought of what would happen should the rebels win. "If the Varden win this conflict it will be civil war without end..... I will not let that happen. Not as long as I have strength to fight. All that our great nation has become will be undone with those lunatics. They want freedom and liberty. But to what end? The rebels sing a sour tune. The form of govern over the people will not change other then the one that rules. And there are far to many that will want that should the king come to pass. Countless nobles with there own legion of followers and knights loyal to there house. The loss of life unfathonable"
When they came to the guards Atakai kept his mouth shut as he was led off to a room by himself. There an elderly gentemen, a servant of sorts, layed out lavish cloths along with a sword and prepared a bath with buckets of hot water and cold to make it lukewarm. After cleaning up and shaving away the facial hair with a knife Atakai dressed in the courtly, bright colored cloths he was provided. Fixing the belt with the sheathed ceromonial blade that was blunt and usless outside of ceromony he found himself led into the kings hall where there, the king himself, sat upon a throne.
Following proper etiquette Atakai approached the throne on a long rug of red while ignoring the archers on the second floor railings watching him. Stopping several paces away Atakai took a knee and unsheathed the ceromonial blade. Placing the point of the blade on the ground and his forehead to the hilt. Atakai said aloud. "My king"

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
OOC: Please excuse any typos, I'm on my iPod.
IC: Salzarar considered Atakai's words for a moment, "Nothing can be defined in concept by simply white and black, Atakai. There are many things about the king that I don't particularly like, but I still work with him because he isn't generally a bad guy. Even the rebels have their good points. If someone tells you that someone is good or evil, don't listen to them. Humanity's status isn't supposed to be judged by someone." Salzarar sounded like a hypocrite with his extreme dislike towards dragons, but his relationship with them was far too complex to be compared with his previous explanation to Atakai.
Salzarar accompanied Atakai to Galbatorix's throne room and kneeled down on one knee in a bow. "My king, I am recovered Atakai Crowe at your request," Salzarar said.
Galbatorix sat on his throne, an impassive look on his face as he examined Salzarar and Atakai. "You ran into trouble." It wasn't a question.
"Yes, my king. A dragon intercepted Atakai on his way here, but we dealt with it," Salzarar replied quickly.
Galbatorix nodded, his hand resting under his chin as he pondered the situation. "Explain your past journeys to me, Atakai Crowe, starting with your imprisonment and ending with when you met Salzarar," Galbatorix said quietly.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
"My king...." Atakai said as he kept his eyes looking down at the floor and his forehead to hilt of the ceromial blade. His companions sword safely locked in the room he was given upon arriving at the castle. "After our loss at the fields of Elru I, along with many others were taken to a Varden prison camp built into the side of the rocky ironshore cliffs of the coast. There we were subject to torture, interogation, and fiendish experiments. Mostly involving magic and dragons. Something to do with a 'reborn project' I faught back and was beaten for it by the guards. I was put into solitary confinement in the high security wing. A room no wider then my arms fully extended and so small in height I had to crouch if I stood up. When rumors came of the third shock army heading towards us. Our captors started to burn reseach documents and began a purge of the prison."
Atakai sighed. "Those of us strong enough faught back and a massive prison riot broke out. A friend and dragon slayer named Rothgar freed me and we fled the prison in the chaos. He, did not make it though. Burned alive by a dragon of the rebels that pursuied us. I to would have perished by the devil lizard had not Salzarar appeared. I wounded the beast, as it wounded me. It was Salzarar though that dealt the finishing blow. Under his protection I was braught here where I now reside in your protective shadow your majesty"
The mans voice was filled with regret in the memory of Rothgar. "Forgive me my weakness your majesty. If I was just a bit more stronger I could have saved sir Rothgar. He was more of a man to me" Atakai had come to understand that Rothgar was a famous slayer. A champion of there order. Him. Well Atakai was a decent soldier as far as he was concerned. And very talented with a violin. But that was about it.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Galbatorix listened to Atakai's story attentatively, surprised by all of the events an insignificant human could go through and still live. Well, he wouldn't be a simple human for long as far as he was concerned. Nodding his head slightly, Galbatorix said, "Yes, that is what I expected of those rebels. As for Rothgar, he will be sorely missed. He was a great Dragon Slayer indeed, one of the finest of the Order. I understand your sorrow for his loss, but do not dwell on it for long. Don't think about what you could have done to make a difference," Galbatorix said, his voice cracking at an indirect mention of his previous dragon. "Regret will only...make you weak, and cloud your better sense of judgment," the king said tentatively.
"Well, your arrival here isn't just for show, as I am sure you know. While you were getting ready, Salzarar explained your exploits and skills to me, and I think that you are ready to join the Order. Not yet, of course. We will have a feast at your return, and then you will start as an initiate in the Academy. Also, weapons and armor will be smithed for you in the meantime. You are to rest here for a few days and then depart for the Order," Galbatorix ordered sternly, but not unkindly.
Salzarar watched the entire conversation with interest, especially Galbatorix's words. In all of the Skeletoid's time working for the King, he had never once seen him think back on his dragon, Jarnunvosk. He hoped that Atakai wouldn't push the subject. He was sure that Galbatorix would be particularly defensive around this area.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Atakai kept his eyes to the ground as he listened to the kings strong confident voice. Though at one moment the strength in the kings words faltered. Remembering what Salzarar had told him about the king once being a dragon rider. Atakai assumed his noble kings thoughts dwelled on that past. The humble large man would not say words on the matter. If he learned anything from his first meeting with the king it was this. The rumors about him being mad were just that, rumors. Propanda no doubt started by rebel spys. Atakai silently vowed never to doubt the king again. Waiting for the king to finish speaking Atakai finally spoke with a tired voice.
"Your words are full of wisdom my king. And I will remember them. I am honored by your hospitality sire and can only hope that I am worthy of your confidence. That I bring not only glory and honor to myself.... but to the empire and my king." Though Atakai did not lay eyes upon the king. The large man could feel the kings eyes upon him. He was unerved and felt unworthy to be in the kings presence. Much less breath the same air as the mythical man. With a voice full of respect Atakai added.
"I respectfully ask for your blessings for me to leave my king. I do not want to take any more of your valuable time and I am battle and journy weary." The man was lacking in status. But he had the heart and soul of a noble of the empire. The same boring social etiquet. As he had just shown in almost perfect courtly manners. Atakai like many others before him showed potential. But like them also he lacked in personality.

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Salzarar nodded his head as Atakai made sure to not keep eye contact. That was probably was started most rumors about the king; his black, seemingly evil eyes. They looked like a pit that went on perpetually and only contained coldness and cruelty. However, judging him as evil because of that is mere ignorance.
Galbatorix nodded, stroking his plain beard casually. "Of course, I only have one more question for you, and then you will be dismissed. What type of weapon do you wish to wield?" Galbatorix turned to a soldier that stood to the right of his throne: Baxby, one of his most powerful soldiers. Baxby probably even exceeded Salzarar himself, even in his Skeletal form. "Baxby! You are to smith this faithful man armor and weapons out of a fallen star based on his choice of weapon."
Baxby bowed, his hands clasped loyally and replied, "Of course, your highness."

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Atakai attempted to answer the king on what he wanted but held his tounge as the king addressed the soldier beside him. The generosity of the king pleased Atakai and he spoke as much. "Your generosity is boundless your highness. It would be my wish to have a greatsword like lord Salzarar's. But also a shield bearing the royal crest so that it would be the last thing your enemys shall see." It was not just flattery. The sword and shield were his forte. Though most would call the fighting style unimaginative. In skilled hands the sword and shield created the perfect balance of defence and offense. If the dead could speak many would attest to it.
With the formality over Atakai stood back up and gave a final bow before turning around and following the giant carpet out of the kings hall. "The king.... was not what I expected" Atakai said to Salzarar. "Today my faith in the king has been built on a fondation that will not shake. If ever I hear words of ill with his name I shall cut down the currs where they stand. Remembering his promise the giant of a man added. "I believe I something of yours that longs to return to its masters hands. Come to my quarters and I shall return your greatsword."

Re: The Pursuit (Open)
Salzarar raised his eyebrows, curious to Atakai's choice of weaponry. However, he did not question it. It fit the man's size, and a large sword and shield was a great combination against a dragon. Galbatorix nodded slowly, stroking his chin in a pondering manner as he did so. "A greatsword and shield? Well, I have no doubt that you can wield it well. That's the first time I've heard such a combination," Galbatorix said. With that, Baxby went off to smith Atakai's respective weapons. Atakai have one final bow and turned before walking out of the throne room.
Salzarar asked Galbatorix if he too could return to his quarters, and the king nodded his permission. Salzarar gave a quick bow before following Atakai out of the throne room. "Many think of the King differently upon meeting him. Whether it's positive or not depends on the King's mood and the person's perspective." Salzarar followed Atakai to retrieve his greatsword.
