Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Druisk wiped his blade clean in the long grass.
These much-traversed roads were becoming increasingly more dangerous with each passing week. The highway bandits were growing restless, and seemed to be attacking anyone who crossed their paths. Young and old, rich and poor, lone travellers and large groups - no one was safe.
The musicians and bards travelling with Druisk walked quickly along the road, heads turning at the slightest sound. This was not the first attack they had been through, and it would not be the last. This was part of the reason they kept Druisk in their company - his swordsmanship and magic skills had never failed to protect them on their travels, and his wolf companion, Nighteyes, was a welcome addition to the group, alerting them of dangers ahead.
Druisk touched minds with his wolf.
Nighteyes, my Brother. Stop being difficult. Come here and allow me to heal your wounds. If you keep rolling around in the dirt, they'll just get infected!
Nighteyes rolled his eyes and trotted lazily to Druisk's side.
You KNOW how much I hate you doing that. It itches like mad when you do!
Druisk chuckled and proceeded to heal Nighteyes' more serious injuries. Nighteyes began to fidget as the itching sensation began. Suddenly Nighteyes jumped up and stared out into the distance, a low growl escaping his throat.
"What is it? Friend of foe?"
I cannot tell. It's not a scent I recognize - it smells..... different.
Brandishing his katana, Druisk called out into the distance, "Who goes there?"

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Brujole lifted his massive head up at the question. His black scales carrying that wan sheen, his blind eye staring hazily while his good one blinked. He was in no certain mood for a quarrel, but he would stand up for his reputation if he needed to. He'd made an oath long ago to do so, and that he would. No matter who they were, his goal of becoming the most strong-willed dragon alive would be achieved so soon. He could smell a humans. One in particular. The next, a wolf. The black dragon snorted in slight amusement. I am All-Might Brujole, the Embers of the Bloodthirsty... explain to me you yourself.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Nighteyes recoiled from the touch of the creature's mind against his own. He had never felt anything so powerful - so... alien.
Druisk too, felt uneasy as this new prescence brushed against his mind, but he remained firm in his position. He reached out with his own mind.
I am Druisk Rohansson. My companions and I have no desire to fight, but we can and will defend ourselves, should it come to that.
Druisk withdrew from the creature known as Brujole's mind. He remained vigilant, in case Brujole decided to attack. He was confident enough in his skills to believe that he could defend himself - but could he protect the others as well?

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Retribution walked down the road, consumed by his own thoughts. He reached up and touched the pouch at the end of his necklace, which was covered flimsily by his shirt. The pouch hung by his heart, which only made his regret even more. Ease your troubles, now is not the time. Mor'ranr said. Ret looked up and saw the caravan coming towards him, he didn't care for it nor the dragon they looked at. The black scales of the dragon reminded Ret of Mor'ranr's orange scales and once again he found himself thinking of what was lost. I'm sorry Mor'ranr, it's all too difficult. Ret said stopping in his place an arrow's shot away from the caravan. Ease yourself and find out what is happening. Ret sighed and continued walking, if nothing else he could find some rest, even if it was going back the way he came. Ret cared not for where he went, but if it lead somewhere where he could die then he would go. Thus, Ret approached the caravan. "Strange that a group of minstrels should look upon a dragon and not immediately start making songs about it."

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Nighteyes jumped turned and faced the newcomer, his mouth curled into a vicious snarl, baring his teeth for all to see.
Easy Brother, we don't want to be too hasty. You keep an eye on the - wait did he just say DRAGON???
Druisk's head snapped towards the creature.
So that's a dragon huh? I've only heard of them in stories, but never have I seen one with my own eyes, nor dreamed I would see one this close!
Suddenly Druisk wasn't so confident in his ability to protect himself, let alone the caravan.
Tell the new one he had better be careful with what he says, else I'll rip his head off with my own teeth!
Druisk nodded in acknowledgement.
You just keep an eye on the dragon. I'll deal with this one.
"It appears Nighteyes here has taken a bit of a disliking to you. What is your business here?"

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
OOC: Mind if I join? Phal hasn't met either of the new charries here yet. IC: Phalynx watched the landscape pass below her in long, rolling waves of green and brown, and other, more indistinct colors. Colors that could not be described save by seeing them. She noticed the heat signatures of several below her; it seemed as if a large group of musicians and bards were on the move. She knew bandits frequented these roads, so she decided to check in on them and offer them help.
As she neared them, she noticed another being. One of her own kind, and more than that: someone she had met before. She cut off the silver glow from her scales, and the star that appeared to be trailing across the sky disappeared. Her silver scales were still almost starlike, even without the actual glow. She pulled into a steady, placid dive, and unfurled her wings relaxedly. As she got closer and could see the dragon clearer with her normal vision, she finally remembered who he was: Brujole. She had not seen him in at least two years.
She slowed in her descent until she was merely gliding on her overly large wings, and finally let herself land gracefully on the path ahead of everyone.
Hello, Brujole. I haven't seen you in two years, I believe. How have you been? she said privately into the dragon's mind. To the two-legs and the wolf, she said something different. Greetings, everyone. I am Phalynx, dragoness of the stars. I noticed your group down here, and since I know these roads to be frequented by bandits, I wanted to check on your safety. I would also like to offer my assistance in protecting you until you leave this region, if you would like, she said with a friendly smile. Her green eyes glittered in the sunlight.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
OOC: Always happy to have people join! Welcome!
IC: Nighteyes began howling to the sky.
Now there are two of them??? Brother, I like this not!
Easy Nighteyes, I do not believe they mean us harm. Besides, these dragons, they intrigue me.
Druisk marvelled at the arrival of this new dragon. Never had he seen a creature so dazzling, yet so deadly.
"Greetings Phalynx, Warrior of the Skies. I am Druisk, the minstrel. This is my wolf, Nighteyes, and our caravan of companions. The roads are indeed being plagued by bandits - we met some just a league ago. Your offer is most welcome - my companions have grown very weary of having to remain constantly on guard. And I'm sure you would provide some wonderful inspiration for the minstrels' songs - myself included."
Druisk couldn't believe his luck! Of all the things that could happen to him, this had never entered his mind.
Can you believe it Nighteyes? Travelling with a dragon! Perhaps she knows something of the Shade?
Nighteyes continued to growl.
I don't care. We should never have even joined these other humans, and now you want to travel with THAT? I don't like this.
Relax Nighteyes. This could be the break we've been after.

OOC:: Aeraldi:: Just call me Silv/Silver, it's all good
Sorry, short.Brujole lifted himself to his feet, muscles rippling along his thick legs and stomach, ribs bulging and his whip-ike tail thrashing once. Ah, Phal, silver one. he dipped his head slightly, his face not leaving its normal brutal expression. Too long. I've been ... fine ... He strained on the word, snorting in frustration. But you should tell me of yourself. Bru eyed the other newcomer and then the wolf dangerously for the howling was irritating.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
"Well then, I shall keep an eye on your... pet. But it will die, just like the rest. Probably of old age in some damp cave somewhere and nobody will remember it, even you will forget." Ret shook his head and changed his tone, "But as for my business, well... That I keep to myself for you wouldn't understand. None of you would understand!" Ret sighed and then continued, "And as for those dragons, unless they can speak through someone I won't hear them. My mind opens to nothing." He turned to the dragons and spoke to them directly, "Understand that? Or haven't you been tamed by the world of two legs yet?"

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Nighteyes snarled viciously at the comment.
Pet? PET?!?!?! I am no one's PET! Come closer. I'll show you how tame this pet is!
"Nighteyes is no pet. He has been my loyal companion for many-a-year now, and has saved my hide, more times than I care to remember. I would watch your tongue, sir, lest he bite it off!"
The newcomer was starting to irritate Druisk. He turned and began to walk back to the caravan.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
I am happy to meet you, Druisk and Nighteyes. It would be my pleasure to keep your group safe as it travels through these dangerous parts, she said with a friendly smile, her green eyes glittering. She glanced over at Brujole.
Indeed. I have been, well, I suppose the best word for it is "active." I've been travelling a lot, getting into a lot of action. I don't really get to rest much, she said with a small mental laugh, But where is Aviva? Has something happened? Phal's voice took a worried tone, concerned for the welfare of the rider she had only met briefly. Where was she?
Phal turned back when the man, who did not seem to be part of the travelling group, spoke. Her expression darkened, and the golden stripe in her right eye glowed a ferocious shade of gold. She growled low under her breath, outraged at his comments. Tamed by the world of two-legs?! What is that supposed to mean? she thought in outrage. Instead, she paced over to him and stared down at him, her eyes glaring. Could someone please ask this man what he means by that last statement? What does he mean by "tamed by the world of two-legs"? she said to the bards, her voice low and threatening.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
The entire caravan was shocked at being addressed directly by Phalynx. They glanced nervously at each other, wondering who would step forward and speak.
"OI! Show some respect would ja?!?! That dragon could tear you ta pieces, it could!", came a young cry from the group. A young girl, barely 6, broke free of her guardian and stepped forward from the crowd. A shocked silence filled the air.
"Easy little one," said Druisk, calmly placing his hand on her shoulder. "But you're absolutely right."
Turning back to the stranger, Druisk glared at him, venom in his eyes. "What gives YOU the right to speak to a dragon in such a manner? Have you no concern for your own well-being?"

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Retribution laughed loudly at the statement, he couldn't contain himself. When he calmed down slightly he began talking again, "First off, my right to talk is the same right as any living being. I talk how I want and nobody has the right to tell me otherwise. As for my well being, I doubt this dragon could even touch me." Easy, that's my kind you're talking about. Mor'ranr said. Not anymore though. Ret said before realizing what he had said. Ret had trouble breathing as his own regret amplified by Mor'ranr's went coursing through his body. He shut his eyes and held back tears, his hands moving towards his heart as well as Mor'ranr's Eldunari. Mor'ranr... I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that... I know... The pain never quite goes away entirely. But watch your tongue in future to avoid bringing it up again. Mor'ranr said, hiding his emotions from Ret. Ret lowered his arm and regained his posture. "I have earned my right to do as I please. If what I said gave you the impression of not respecting then I do apologize as it was not my intent. Some dragons of the world are truly wild and have no consideration of others while other wild dragons have been 'tamed' so to speak and actually care what happens in the world of mortals."

Druisk looked at the man. It looked as though he was in... pain?
Let us leave this place, Brother. The day draws to an end, and I do not like being so exposed like this.
Druisk nodded, agreeing.
"Might I ask your name, traveller?" Druisk inquired.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Phalynx wanted to speak directly to the man, to tell him that she understood what she meant, but using the word "tamed" was somewhat offensive, as it suggested it was the two-legs' doing that some dragons were compassionate. She saw him suddenly clutch his chest, and immediately turned on her magical vision. She noticed an abnormally strong flow of magic throughout him, but was startled to see the familiar shape of an eldunari near his heart.
Could you please tell Ret that I understand what he means? And can you ask him about the thing he's carrying near his heart? she said politely to Druisk. To the man himself, she gave a polite bow of the head, no longer holding any ill feelings towards him. She hoped he understood. I don't see why he can't open his mind just enough for conversation. It's not like I'd try to probe his deepest secrets, she thought in exasperation.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Druisk nodded to the dragon.
"Phalynx would like me to express to you that she understands what you mean. She also would like me to ask you about the thing you are carrying close to your heart?"
Druisk turned to his companions. "This may take a while. I suggest you keep moving. I will meet up with you in Belatona. Nighteyes will accompany you to keep you safe."
The caravan of people nodded in agreement, and started on their way.
Brother! I do not wish to leave you alone with this lot!
Relax Nighteyes. I will be fine. Go. Keep the others safe. I will stay linked with you the entire way.
The wolf hung is head in submission, before running to catch up with the group.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Ret was gratified by the fact that he didn't have to combat a dragon, but the question about what he was holding that made him cautious. "What I hold is the last of what I hold dear, if you want more of an explanation I suggest you ask her." Ret said indicating to Phalynx. "Although, I can say that it belonged to someone close to my heart which is why it hangs there." Ret didn't want to add much more in case the traveler guessed. But if he did, then he would either force him to bind himself to secrecy or kill him. Either way, he didn't like the outcome of this conversation and his feelings were reflected within his face.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Druisk noticed a change in Retribution's expression. He looked wary. Worried even. Druisk felt it would be best to try and smooth the situation over.
"Forgive my prying. I only asked on behalf of Phalynx, who requested me to relay her question to you. Perhaps she cannot communicate with you directly?"
Turning to the dragon, Druisk reached out with his mind. The dragon's mind still felt so strange, but he was growing ever more intrigued with her.
Would I be correct in assuming this is the case?

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
For some strange and outlandish reason, I have no reason to engage much converse in whom has given me the direct impression of being an idiot. Brujole gestured towards Druisk. If you would kindly relay my message, I'd be most greatful. Bru then felt his heart stumble at Phal's question. His limbs quaked, muscles rippling as blurred images replayed behind his eyes. He veered himself around quickly and vomited in the flora, hoping that was enough of an answer for Phal, for he was busy trying to resist the urge to gorge out his own throat at that current moment. Woe is me ... woe is me ... woe is me ... Bru began to hum something of a lullaby between his scarred lips. It was a message ... it told her it was alright now ... everything was alright ...

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Druisk had almost forgotten Brujole's prescence. He wondered what could have made this mighty beast throw up? Could it have been something about Retribution perhaps?
Of course.
"I believe you may have offended Brujole. I didn't realise it was possible for dragons to throw up? Then again, there's a lot about dragons I don't know."

"For my own reasons, I dislike others within my mind even if it is just to communicate." Ret said back to the others. Just let her, I doubt she could pry your mind away from you. Besides, you've also got me. Mor'ranr said. I suppose you're right. It's just difficult. Ret sighed and looked at Phalynx. "I will allow you into my mind only to communicate, if you wander where you're not supposed to I will crush you." Ret's words as sharp as a dagger. All the while taking notice of the black dragon in the forest vomiting. He knew only a few things could make a dragon vomit like that, but he was sure it wasn't the Eldunari hanging at his chest.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Phal doubted the man's ability to defeat her mind, but she didn't mention any such thing. No need to cause a dispute where none was warranted. She felt his mind grow more open, but only just. Then I thank you, sir. This makes it all the easier. And do not fear about me prying, I have no wish to know your secrets if you do not want me to. I do have morals, Retribution. And, I'd like to express how sorry I am for your loss, she said with heartfelt sorrow. Ret was obviously greatly affected by the physical loss of his dragon, it was probably why he closed off his mind. And the loss of any dragon was a sorrowful event.
Phal immediately turned and walked over to Brujole after his agonized reply and reaction. Brujole, I had no idea! I'm so sorry, she said, her voice and eyes sympathizing. Can you tell me what happened? I understand of course if you do not wish to relive it. In fact, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked, she said, immediately regretting her words. Phal frequently let her curiosity get the better of her, even in the worst situations.

Brujole craned his neck back, eyeing the sky. It's nothing, he said, don't be sorry. He didn't particularily have the unbelievable yearning to explain Aviva. That and also his mind grew more muddled whenever he strayed to think of that subject. Without feeling the need to use words, in less than a second he explained to Phal through emotions why he wasn't clarifying the subject. Once he had done, he shuffled his wings and eyed the human. What is it you're doing here anyway? he growled, ignoring the one called Ret.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
The dragon's mind against his own made his uneasy. As much as he wanted to reject the mind from his mind immediately he knew that it would be easier to talk with the dragon. Her words pierced his heart and sent sadness through his body. "Thank you for your words, but they cannot bring his body back." Ret then looked at the black dragon behind the bushes and, seeing the dragon's actions, realised that he had seen that before. It was what he had gone through. He said so softly under his breath that none could hear him except Mor'ranr. "Everything dies, one way or another."

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Druisk heard Ret murmur something, but couldn't quite make it out. He pushed it from his mind, and addressed Brujole.
"I have been traveling with my fellow minstrels and bards for the past two years, wandering from town to town, trying to make a living. However, I have been keeping my ears open for any news regarding a Shade who killed my parents 22 years ago."
Rage filled Druisk's heart, and his body began to shake, upon mention of the Shade. Oh how he wished for his revenge against the nightmarish creature.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Phal brushed her mind against Brujole's in a comforting way, hoping to offer even the smallest bit of solace. She glanced at Ret when she saw him murmur something. At least your dragon is not completely gone; you may take comfort in that, she offered with sympathy. The news of Aviva's death and the meeting of this hurt rider had both put her in a more serious mood. After Druisk spoke, she brightened at the thought of something to do.
A shade? I have no idea what shade you speak of specifically, but if you want I can help you look. I would be able to see its dark magic from very far away, she said to Druisk.

Druisk's eyes filled with hope. Could this dragon really be offering him his long-sought dream?
I would be honoured to have you accompany us. You have no idea what this means to me.
Brother! Are you ok? I sense a change in you..., came Nighteyes' worried question.
Yes my Brother. Everything shall soon be as it should.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
"Yes, and I plan to ensure that each and every last one of them are destroyed," replied Druisk.
Brother! If you make me wait much longer, I shall come after you myself! We have arrived in Teirm and found accommodation for our stay. Hurry up!
Ok Nighteyes. We'll leave shortly.
Teirm. It had been many years since Druisk had been home. He wondered how his adoptive parents, Micah & Kettricken, were doing, and his adoptive sister Kestrel too. They had not wanted him to go on this journey in the first place, but understood why he felt he must.
"Might I suggest we head to the town? Nighteyes is growing impatient, and the day is coming to a close."
Then, to Phalynx and Brujole, I do not know what kind of accommodations Teirm can offer dragons, nor how and where you sleep in the first place. Will this pose a problem? Brujole, you are more than welcome to accompany us as well if you wish.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Phal's green eyes gleamed happily when she heard Druisk's heartfelt reply. No, I am honored to be giving you such happiness, my friend, she said, and bowed her head briefly. She listened to him speak of going to Teirm. The thought was exciting; Phal had never been to the port city, though she had seen it at a distance. Of course, she couldn't actually enter the city without causing a huge amount of chaos. Well, she couldn't enter the normal way.
Oh, do not worry. I'm sure I will find accomodations, and Brujole if he wishes to accompany us. Do you think your family would mind if I met them? And if not, could you tell me exactly where they live? she questioned, already formulating a plan. Like the rest of the Empire's cities, Teirm was sure to have an underground system of tunnels for use by the soldiers. With her sight, Phalynx could easily find them and use them to get secretly into the city.

"My family would be honoured, and extremely surprised to meet you," Druisk replied happily. "They may be a bit wary of you at first, but I'm sure they'll overcome that in no time."
Druisk turned to Retribution. "You may accompany us as well if you wish. My family can provide you with accommodation if you like."
Nighteyes?
Yes my Brother?
Can you go and see my parents? Seeing you will let them know that I am here and will see them shortly.
Of course Brother.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
I am glad to hear of it, Phal said, nodding her head politely, Now, can you tell me which building they live in? I wouldn't want to surprise someone else by mistake with my entrance. Phal laughed at the thought of sneaking up through the tunnels and catching someone off guard. The mental picture of herself emerging amidst a family dinner suddenly came to mind, and she began laughing even harder.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Ret bowed his head to Druisk and replied, "Thank you but I cannot accept it. I hate people and I am sure they hate me. I can see it within their eyes, they do not approve of how I clothe myself or how I smell. I take no time to clean myself, I see no point to it since I am not trying to impress anybody. I will sleep outside the city where there is nature and nothing to stare at me." He looked at Brujole and directed his voice to him, "I can help with the pain, if you want. It may not be words you wish to hear but they will dull the pain... At least enough to find something to live for."

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Druisk watched as Brujole spread his mighty wings and took off.
"Well that was unexpected." He turned to face Ret.
"You can do as you wish. However my family do not make judgements on first impressions. The offer is there, should you change your mind."
Looking at Phalynx, Druisk spoke with his mind once more.
My home is on the edge of town, along the shore. My mother has a tendency to hang some hideous flower-print curtains from the windows. It's also the only house in the area with a flower garden in the front.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Phalynx stopped laughing and watched as Brujole flew away. Goodbye, Brujole. I hope to see you again, she called after him, concern etching her voice. He probably wanted more time to himself; she could respect that. Still, she didn't like seeing another dragon in such pain. She turned back to Druisk and Ret with a lighter heart.
Well, Druisk, I think I can find your home just fine. Do people walk past often at night? she questioned, wanting to make sure of one last detail. She highly doubted his family would appreciate her digging through a tunnel and into their dining room or front yard. Much better to dig out somewhere nearby, where no one would notice, and then visit them at night.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Not really. That area around my house is usually pretty quiet - not many people head towards the ocean shore at night as it gets quite chilly.
Brother, came Nighteyes, interrupting the conversation. You would want to make an appearance soon. Your family grows worried that you're not here yet. They think that me being here on my own is a sign that you may be... well, you know what I mean.
I shall be there shortly my friend.
Druisk turned to Retribution and Phalynx, addressing them both. "Might I suggest we head off now? Nighteyes seems to think my family is under the impression I have met with an ill fate."

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Ret sighed and accepted the Druisk's offer of shelter, it would be nice to have a proper shelter over him. "Fine, I'll come." He said grudgingly. He hated conversing with others, magic was so much simpler. It'll be fine, you need to eat good food for once. Not just the stuff that you catch and put over the fire. Mor'ranr said. I already said I was going, don't make me change my mind. Ret said back to Mor'ranr. He then looked at Druisk and waited for him to show the way.

"Excellent! Well it's just beyond those hills there," replied Druisk, pointing off into the distance. "Although we'll have to hurry if we want to get there before they close the gates on us. Will you be travelling with us Phalynx? Or would you prefer to just meet us there?"

"I'll travel with you. Despite how I look I am quite fast on my feet." Ret said, magic flowing through him. He wasn't sure if the spell he was going to cast had a name but he made the magic work either way. Lessen the gravity, move the air, push the blood in his body. "Let's go."

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Hold on a moment, Phalynx said as she flapped a few dragonlengths up into the air. She glanced around on their path to Teirm to make sure there were no enemies lying in wait. Alright, the way looks clear for you two. I shall be making my own way. Galbatorix's spies would no doubt catch sight of a dragon flying near the city at night, so I must go another way, she said, and flapped higher.
She made her way towards Teirm, flying close to the treetops. When she saw the underground tunnels begin, she dove directly into the trees and out of sight. She then began searching around for the entrance she had spotted, not sure where it would be aboveground. She finally located it beneath some moss and clawed it out of the way. With a quick ruffling of her wings she had crawled into the hole and down into the tunnels. From here, it was a bit harder to know exactly where to go, as she was looking at everything from ground level and not map view, but she had already found a good beginning route. Phal set off, planning to be at Druisk's home within twenty minutes.

Druisk gazed in awe as Phalynx took off.
"Have you ever seen anything so amazing?" addressing Retribution. "OK let's move - the guards won't let anyone in after the gates close."
Druisk turned and started jogging at a steady pace, eager to return home.

Ret looked at Druisk then back at Phalynx and said back in a grim tone, "Yes, yes I have." Then ran after Druisk, the magic still filling the air around him as helping him run faster than anyone should be able to. Though he only ran up to Druisk and kept with him.

Druisk jogged in silence. It was not long before he could finally see the town in the distance.
Teirm.
Home.
He quickened his pace, eager to see his family. As the two drew closer, Druisk saw the guards preparing to close the gates.
"Quickly! We've only got a couple of minutes before they shut the gates!"

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Phalynx walked along in the tunnels at a brisk but relatively leisurely pace, for a dragon. She felt rather like some creeping thing about to emerge on unsuspecting victims above, and laughed at the thought. They shouldn't be frightened to see me! she thought with amusement.
She continued on until the tunnels began growing more damp, water dripping from cracks in the ceiling and moss growing in small patches here and there. She was in the ocean-side tunnels, and nearing the house Druisk said was his. Not long now, she thought, locating the flowers near the house with her sight.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Ret heard Druisk and quickened his pace, running faster than a normal human. "I'm going to help you move a little faster." Ret said before pushing Druisk's legs just a little faster than should have been normal. He also held onto Druisk's body to stop him from falling flat on his face and before the gates shut they were through. Ret bowed over and started huffing enough though the run wouldn't make him do anything of the sort. He wanted to keep up the appearance of being relatively normal for the guards because he had no intention of wasting his energy on such pathetic people. "Lead the way." Ret said.
OOC: Hope you don't mind the god-mod... I'll change it if you want.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
OOC: Nah that's all good It took a moment before Druisk's heart was beating at it's normal pace. What was that??? I've never run that fast before in my life! Druisk thought to himself. "Phew! That was a close call. My home is this way." Druisk led the way past the guards, all of whom were eyeing them suspiciously. They travelled through the city, past the familiar shops and taverns, until they arrived outside of Druisk's home. It looked just the same as it always had. The flowers had grown in number, but everything else remained unchanged in the two years he had been away. Druisk raised his hand and pushed the oak door inwards.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Phalynx crept into a tunnel near the harbor and waited. It opened out under a very old, rotted out dock, and the opening was, luckily, large enough for Phal to get out of. She didn't want to risk going out yet, though. She would emerge when darkness blanketed the town to make sure she was not spotted from a distance.
Druisk, I am in a cave near the harbor. I will emerge when it is dark and I will go to meet your family, if they don't mind, she said, stretching out her limbs and yawning a little. Might as well get a little nap in before it gets completely dark, she thought, lowering her head to rest on her foreclaws. She glanced once more at Druisk's home as he and Ret approached the door.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
OOC: Yeah sorry about that - couldn't be bothered writing much more at that point.
That's fine Phalynx. I'll prepare my family for the shock of their life!
There were shocked gasps all around. A swarm of people rushed towards Druisk, with cries of "Druisk!", "You're home!!!". Druisk turned his head and gave Ret a look that clearly said "Sorry about this."
"Ok, ok! Enough! Calm down! I'm home!" he said, trying to disentangle himself from his family's arms. Nighteyes rushed forward and jumped onto Druisk.
NEVER ask me to leave you like that again!
Immediately the questions began.
"How are you?" "What have you been up to?" "You look thin - have you been eating enough?" "Why didn't you come back with Nighteyes?"
Druisk turned to Ret and said, "Retribution, this is my mother Kettriken, my father Micah, and my sister Kestrel. Everyone, this is Retribution. I met him on my travels. I hope you don't mind, I've invited him to stay with us for a bit, before we head off again."
His family were taken aback. "You mean you're leaving again??? But why? Surely you know how much we've missed you!" cried his sister.
Druisk looked at his family apologetically. "I'm sorry, but I haven't accomplished what I set out to do when I left here. But, with the help of some new friends, I think I may be able to do just that. There is actually someone who would like to meet you all a little later. She's a...," Druisk paused for effect, "DRAGON! I think with her help, I can finally locate and defeat the Shade!"
One by one, he watched his family's jaws drop. They all glanced from him to Retribution, eyeing the newcomer suspisciously.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Ret looked at the family reunion and a small sense of longing opened up in him. He had a family at one point... Don't... He told himself, Don't bring that up again. Ret put up with the introductions and when Druisk mentioned the dragon he watched how the family reacted. When they looked at Ret then Ret decided he could at least say something. "Why are you looking at me, do I look like a dragon to you?" I believe that was a joke you just made. Mor'ranr said. I'm not entirely uncivilized, I'll do what I must to make this go smoothly.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Everyone laughed at Retribution's comment - even Nighteyes had to try to hide his amusement. The tension in the room dissipated as quickly as it had begun.
Kettricken gestured to the table, inviting everyone to take a seat.
Druisk was made to recount all of his adventures for his family - his near misses, how he had had no luck in locating the Shade - the whole reason for his journey in the first place.
His sister Kestrel was completely absorbed in his story, particularly enjoying his tales of travelling with the other minstrels and bards.
The time seemed to fly by as Druisk caught up on what had happened during the past 2 years that he had been away.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Phalynx eavesdropped on the conversation going on in the house above. She had moved to a tunnel closer to the house to do so. What she heard intrigued her. Druisk had obviously been doing a lot, and his stories made her think all the more highly of him. He does deserve my help with the shade. I will not fail in this task, she thought with a determined nod. She glanced outside, and saw that it was now dark and late enough for her to go aboveground and meet Druisk's family.
Druisk, it is dark enough for me to come out. Would you please convey to your family that I am ready to meet them when they decide to come outside? she spoke into his mind, waiting for a pause between stories to do so. She stayed near the hole going into the harbor, ready to emerge.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Of course.
Druisk stood up from the table.
"Mother, father, Kestrel. If you are ready, the dragon Phalynx is ready to meet you," he said, addressing his family.
His family looked up at his with nervous eyes.
"It's ok - you don't need to be afraid. Phalynx will not hurt you."
Kettricken and Micah exchanged a worried glance, but it was his sister Kestrel who spoke.
"Ok brother. I trust you. Let's go meet ourselves a dragon!"
Druisk led the way out of the house, followed by his family, Nighteyes, and Retribution. They walked around the house, to the shoreline.
Phalynx, we are ready.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Excellent, Phal said happily, and backed up a few paces. She then ran forward and took a running leap out of the hole, spreading her wings slightly as soon as they were clear and navigating away from the dock and small cliff. She then flared her wings to their fullest extent and flapped upward, the moonlight glinting off of her star-silver scales. She flipped around to face the shore and then flapped gently down, landing gracefully in front of the small group.
As Druisk has already informed you, I am the dragon Phalynx. I am very pleased to meet you all, she said in a friendly voice, her green eyes gleaming.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Gasps of shock and awe escaped from Druisk's family. Never before had they witnessed a creature so majestic and beautiful.
"Druisk! What is this I'm feeling in my head? Is that the dragon???" cried his mother.
Druisk cursed himself silently. He should have prepared them for this. He had not even considered the fact that they had never reached out with their minds to speak with others before.
"Yes mother, that would be Phalynx. This is how dragons communicate with others, although you can speak normally to communicate with her. I'm sorry, I should have warned you all."
"No no, it's ok son. We're just not used to having another presence within our own minds."
Kestrel stepped forward and addressed the dragon. "Greetings Phalynx! I am Kestrel, sister to Druisk, and daughter of Kettricken & Micah," indicating her mother and father respectively. "It is an honour to meet you."

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Ret shook his head and thought silently to himself, showoff. He had to admit though, she did look majestic in the fading light. It reminded him of how Mor'ranr's scales used to reflect the sun almost perfectly. Why doesn't it go away? Ret asked the void. Would you really want to forget? Mor'ranr asked. No... I never do. Ret was gratified by the words of Mor'ranr.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Phal smiled warmly at Druisk's family, though she was careful not to show her long fangs. People not used to dragons could be alarmed by a draconic grin. It is my pleasure to meet you as well, Kestrel. I know my method of communication may be a bit strange, but I can't really produce the same kinds of sounds you can. Any attempt would be somewhat awkward, she said with a laugh, her eyes glittering.
So what do you all do in Teirm? Why do you choose to live in this port city? she questioned, curious about the family. The more she learned about them, the more she would learn about Druisk. That would aide her in tracking and fighting the shade, and also satisfy her natural curiosity. So, she decided to try to gather information about them.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Kestrel spoke up again, becoming more confident in the presence of the dragon.
"Well my mum here is a florist - you may have noticed the flower bed out the front of our house? Or perhaps not, considering how little light there is. Anyways, those are all brand new species of flora that she has created. People come from all over the world to buy her flowers."
Kettricken's face turned a bright crimson colour - clearly visible in the dark of night. Micah placed a hand on his wife's shoulder, and kissed her on the cheek, so proud of her accomplishments.
"And my father is a well-renowned carpenter in town," she said, smiling proudly at her father. "I help them out wherever I can, but my true passion is music, like my brother."
Druisk stood back, watching his sister gush over her family. She had grown up so much in the past two years.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Ret watched the introductions with mindless interest. He cared not for these people with their professions and their struggles. After all, how could they understand? They would probably die if they felt what he felt. Why am I even here? Why did I agree to come here? He asked himself. You came to be civil, don't forget that now. Mor'ranr said. Bah, I'll do what I want. And continued to watch as the people mooned over the dragon in front of them. He didn't care, there were far too few dragons in the world.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Phalynx listened politely to Kestrel speak of her family here. She glanced at the flowers again, noting the lovely patterns of ultraviolet coloration on the petals. It was a shame Kestrel's mother could not see that aspect of her creations. Oh, no, I saw your flowers. They are lovely. And may I note that your family and your lives seem quite tame compared to what I am used to, she said with a laugh. Even that was an understatement. In her life, most of her time was a long period of travelling broken by fights and excitement.
Phal glanced over at Ret. He seemed very quiet and withdrawn. By now, she didn't expect him to be anything else, though. It seemed to her like he needed more friends. She turned back to Kestrel when she finished. In my travelling I haven't heard much music, I'm afraid. It would be nice to be able to listen to more, she said.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
"Well if you are going to be accompanying my brother on his journey, I'm sure you'll hear a lot of music. He's got an amazing voice!" said Kestrel.
Druisk grinned sheepishly at Kestrel's comment.
Nighteyes rolled his eyes at Druisk.
Don't start thinking you're all that, my brother. Had I the ability to sing in your tongue, I would make a MUCH better minstrel than you!
Druisk laughed out loud.
Gee Nighteyes - jealous much???

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Ret walked off away from the group towards the lakeside, making sure he would stay out of the light. Dragons were all good and well but he had enough of the admiration, he wanted to practice what he loved and there was nothing he loved more to practice with the water. He sat heavily on the shore, the sand cool beneath him. He cut out the sounds of the people near him and concentrated on the sound of the running water, on it's flow. On how the flow ran through his mind, the ability that unlocked his powers. He raised his hands and drew a small amount of water from the lake, twisting it within the space between his palms. He carved the water into a likeness of Mor'ranr, of how he looked when he was alive and adjusted the light on it so that it appeared orange. He then increased the flow exponentially and turned the water into stone, making a perfect statue of Mor'ranr. A payment... He thought to himself. This statue will more than pay for the food I have eaten here. Then I will owe these people nothing and I can leave this world with no attachments. Must you think always of death? Yes, it is all I know. Ret then got up and walked back, cradling the statue behind him. He would give the statue as a gift when he left but he wanted it a surprise when he left.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Phalynx smiled. Well, I look forward to that, if what you say is true. Though I'm afraid I won't be much judge of talent; I've heard little enough to be able to be. I suppose I'll just have to take your word for it, Kestrel she replied with a laugh. She glanced over at Ret when he wandered off, wondering what he was up to. She turned back to Druisk and his family.
How did you decide you wanted to be a minstrel, if I may ask? she asked, and then laughed, I must say, the concept of having a specific job is unfamiliar to me.

Re: Revenge - A Bittersweet Symphony
Druisk smiled at Phalynx. "I've always had a love of music. The group you saw me travelling with, the other bards and minstrels, came to town a few years back. Shortly prior to their arrival, I had decided to set out on my journey to locate the Shade that killed my biological parents, much to the disapproval of my family here. The group's arrival gave me an opportunity to combine my love for music, with my desire to find the Shade," he said, his voice breaking with emotion as he spoke of his biological parents.
"Nighteyes became my ears among the crowds as I performed, listening out for the slightest mention of anything that could be useful on my journey," he said, rubbing Nighteyes affectionately behind the ears.
Oh stop, you're going to make me blush, replied Nighteyes sarcastically.
"Enough about YOU brother - I want to hear about Phalynx!" said Kestrel. "Where did you come from? How did you come to accompany my brother and Nighteyes? Do you have a Rider? Or are you a wild dragon?" she began, not giving Phalynx a chance to answer her first question before asking another.
