I, for one, have always sustained and continue to sustain, the fact that Ayra is too, much too old for Eragon. If Arya doesn't go with him ... it isn't meant to be. Lots of lose ends to tie up in the third book, the love story just being one of them. What about Saphira being the last female dragon? Would love to see Arya be the next rider, and her's and Eragon's dragons fall in love, while Arya and Eragon do the same - and they fly off to some distant land to ... well, you know, reinstate the rider legacy. J

Do you remember Hrothgar's first conversation with Eragon? He said something around the lines of "The time of the Riders has passed, Eragon. They will never rise again─not even if Galbatorix's other eggs were to hatch." Eragon 443 (I found the quote). J 1] I have sustained since the beginning that Ayra is an honorable person. She is aware of all the existing facts which make the relationship impossible and she has made no secret of it to Eragon. I also believe she has also been sending mixed messages to him. One example that comes to mind is when Eragon asked Ayra to go into the tunnels after the battle of Farthen Dur, she accepted to go to track the Twins and Murtagh, she specifically said in the AL, "Wiol ono." which means "for you." (what's with that?) and I remember it because I adopted the phrase. 2] We must assume that it is 99.9% probable that Eragon WILL leave Alagaesia forever. So far almost all of the readings Angela made in the bones have come to be, as well as Eragon's visions. So I am inclined to believe he WILL leave Alagaesia, but if it will be with Ayra, that is a huge ? Paolini did not give us much to make anything out of it in either of the books. (Tricky guy!) 3] And I do agree with you on all the lose ends to tie up and I hope he does it nice and neatly! I am hoping for the existance of a wild dragon for Saphira!!! (Wishful thinking) One without a history and not as a last resort! I am not sure if I want Eragon and Ayra to end up together though, but I do believe Ayra has earned the right to be the next Rider. But I am dead set against Ayra and Eragon as a couple, it's creepy! _________________ ~.~.~.~.~.~

IMNC was of the belief that Ayra did not have any feelings for Eragon, other than those of a friend. He supported his theory with the fact that she said so in the AL. I have always supported the position that she DOES have feelings for him. HOWEVER, Ayra being the oldest here, has a lot more on her plate than paying attention to a little boy's infatuation. I have said Ayra is an honorable person. One who knows, (due to her veeeeeeeery long life span) the importance of her mission as well as Eragon's. Even Oromis told Eragon that in the event that Ayra did have feelings for him, she would sacrifice them for "the good of the many." Oromis also pointed out to him the vast age difference between the two. Ayra is aware of all the existing obstacles in any type of relationship between them., hence, the story of Linnea under the Menoa tree. However, she HAS sent mixed signals to the poor boy. Just to give one example: (In Eldest) After the Battle under Farthen Dur, when Saphira points out the fact that Murtagh and the Twin's bodies are not among the dead, Eragon asks Ayra to go into the tunnels to see if she can find Murtagh. What was her answer; "Wiol ono" "For you." Why not "as a favor to you!" That would have been the answer to a friend. Besides, she has been too touchy, touchy with him. Ayra BELIEVES her feeling are those of a friend. That's why she was able to say it in the AL, just like Murtagh believes what he was told by Galbatorix in regards to his kinship with Eragon. She is much too old and has far too much and many life experiences compared to Eragon. He will always be at a disadvantage. But then, I don't see Nasuada and Eragon together either; they are too equally matched. (Not counting the Rider thing, I mean as humans.) And good point by the way Annie, how is Eragon and Nasuada going to be able to get together if Eragon is going away right after he kills Galby? She can't just quit being the leader of the Varden like that, it will be in chaos. Plus I"m hoping for Nasuada to become queen anyway. I think it is Roran on the beach yelling out and Arya and Eragon are on the boat. It makes sense. For one: Arya is an elf so she may want to go back to where her people are. Two: Eragon has to leave anyway so he has to be going to the elven lands I suppose so shouldn't Arya tag along to see her heritage?
