Post Mario Kart (for the Wii)
O.K., i got this wii, and I must say, its one of the best games for the Wii! its so fun! I have the steering wheel, which is definitely a plus. its game play is so much different from Double Dash in the sense of steering. so, people, talk about it here! lol.

Lol, it IS pretty fun! The graphics are a lot better than Double Dash and they have a lot of cool new items and stages. The wheel is awesome to use!

yeah i talked about thsi in the other mario thread but hmm hahaha ill do it agian!!  ???

yeah i thought it was a fun game i think it makes it a lot harder if u DONT have a steering whell to use i think if u dont have one and u have the normal remote it doesnt seem to respond to like ur turns as well as the steering wheel (which does make sense) but i do like the battles they are fun at certain idk areas or whatever they are called!!

I hear that if you use the Wii-mote instead of the wheel combination it really detracts from the experience. I don't really see how it would make too much of a difference, but that's the general agreement between the experts.

I hear if you want to really be competitive it's probably best to use the Gamecube controller.

I have only played the game for like 2 mins at best buy though, i'm not really an expert, I just read a lot 8)

Yes, I too think that if you want to try to get good,
it's best to play with the gamecube controller!

I've tried several controllers on this game, but I still can't
seem to beat the whole lot with the steering weel etc,
just gamecube controller xD

Me either! I'm okay with using the wheel or the Wii Mote! It doesn't make much of a difference to me! This game is really fun and addicting! =P~ =P~ =P~

lol, well its seems like ur pretty good at playing vid games, like my cuzzins! lmao! ur a born gamer! rofl!

so, everybody, wats ur fav item? i luv Bullet Bill, but u only get him if ur in 12th and ur far behind, usually. Sometimes, its not fun being 1st cuz there's no one around u and the only items u get are banana's (which i use to stop shells coming behind me), the fake item boxes, sometimes green shells, and, very rarely, the red shell.

I love getting triple red shells and shooting all of them at one person.

And I've beaten the 150cc cups.

lol, well, i just shoot them at one person, pass them, then shoot at another, then pass them, then shoot the last one at the next one, that way i take out three people.

seriously? its pretty hard. don't the ppl at the end always attack u? like i was so close to the fin line, and i was in first, then somebody hits me with a red shell, the POW thing comes and hits me, then i get shrunk, AND i get struck my lightning and minimized. thus, i finish off like 8th.

If I'm playing with my brother, I always make sure I use them all on him. he gets so pissed off.

Only if you're in 1st. Keep in 2nd or 3rd the whole time and then at the end draft off someone and take the lead. That way you can't get nailed by blue shells.

Lol, I always used that same technique in Double Dash for the GC, Alpha! I've only played this game once but I can tell it's better than DD. I didn't get to use a b,ike when I was playing though. Are those better than the cars?

I used the b.ikes when I played. They're a lot better, I think. Idk they felt like they were faster and they could make sharper turns. Other than that I haven't played this game enough to really say much else lol. I really want to get it though....but forsworn already has it...hmmm... :-k

Are you serious? We can't type bike?

Well, I prefer bikes. The bike only has one level of mini turbo, and the karts have two. The karts are usually faster, but bikes accelerate more.

Did you guys get to play with the wheel? It's amazing how a piece of plastic makes the game infinitely better.

@toph- no u shud DEFINITELY get it! i won't be angry.

the wheel adds to the experience rly well. i didn't know u cud play it with a GC controller. i like b,ikes better cuz they start up faster and can make better turns, but after playing with karts on 50cc it was at first hard to get used to it, but i got the hang of it. the only thing karts are better at is that if they ram into u, it's more powerful, but b,ikes are still good at that.

Hmmm....bikes. Bike. Bikes...Did it work? lol

@alpha: Hmmm that's true, the b.ikes do accelerate better. Too bad I didn't really get to play with the b.ike and kart alternatively to compare them

@forsworn: SERIOUSLY?? Thanks!!! Hmmm now we just have to convince our parents....lol.

Awww no fair!! I didn't get to try the wheel at all since our COUSIN from NEW YORK was hogging it!!! The one who always plays Miss Murder!!! GRRRR!! He used it like every time!! Oh well

EDIT: Oh okay, so we can say "bike" but we can't say b.ikes because it's censored

the kart feels kinda weird, and if u fall off the track, the kart takes so long for it to start up again! bikes u just press the button and it accelerates right away.

@toph- yea sure. we can play each other! lol. and if u get it, make sure u get at least one wheel.

Darn you, Walmart! We went there today and they didn't even have anything for Mario Kart Wii! We didn't even get another Wii mote!

Idk lol. Stupid Walmart didn't have it at all though!! I'm guessing the game is what, $50? And the wheel's around....like $15? $20? So we should save up lol. Unless..... :-k

Forsworn, do you know if you can play online? Is there an option for it or something? Cuz that would be pretty cool.....

I think if we're gonna get the game, we might as well save up the money for a wheel, too. Simply playing with a Wii-Mote takes a lot of the fun out of it.

It's a good thing we have Wi-fi. Forsworn, you guys don't have it, do you? Oh well, we can play you guys when we see you. But at least we have Wolverien as a challenge. I wonder who else has the game... I'll go check Wolvie's thing at the top of the Electronic Zone.

Then he said that it was in the living room, so all we ran in there and Mario Kart was sitting on the table! We were just playing it so much. I use Waluigi and I ride the Wario bike. I'll PM Wolvie once we find our friend code. :D

Rosalina? Do you unlock her or something?

I'm not really good at this game, I mean, I'm all right. I was much better at Double Dash. This game is harder to control. I lose when I use the wheel, but I'm decent with the GC controller. I've never tried the remote before, though I hear it's tough.

Yeah. You get her a lot faster if you have Super Mario Galaxy data on your Wii.

It takes some time to get used to the wheel. When you do, it's just as good as a normal controller.

There are so many more items and cars in this game than DD. Plus there are like so many levels. We don't have King Boo yet, so I just use D.K.

Rosalina's from that game, so it takes less races to unlock her if you have that data. I dunno why, but it does.

I've been wanting to get Dry Bowser, but he takes a bunch of stuff to unlock.

Dry Bowser? I think I have to go play this game bit more, lol.

I was wondering, how do you get a boost in the beginning of the race? Like, when do you start pressing or holding 2?

Well, you know Dry Bones? It's a skeletal Bowser, basically.

Right after you hear the second beep on the countdown. That gets you the fastest boost, I think.

Yeah, I was playing someone who was Dry Bowser over Wi-fi, and it looks pretty sweet. And thanks for that advice, alpha! Those guys were just able to use the beginning boost.

Do you guys know how to do a wheelie when using the Wii-Mote or wheel? I only figured out how to do it while using the GC controller, and that's by pressing the top button on the control pad. Hmm... it's probably in the manual... I'm too lazy to go and check though. Besides, what are we going to talk about in here without all these questions? :D

A) never played with the wheel (and in VS. it's easier to get the wheelie that way don't ask

B) wheelie is obtaned by jerking the wii mote up and away from the TV (bike only)

C) jumps: if you wheelie just as your leaving the jump ramp you got a boost the instant you land (this works for both cars and bik.es)

150 cc not that hard if you sit the first 2 laps in 7th or worse because then you can get the better pick-ups

yep, that's right. when i do tricks on ramps it gives u a speed boost. so does sharp turns on manual, and sometimes on automatic. and yea, for some reason i can't get the wheelie correct. i still need to get it. a

nd on 150cc, it's better to either get a very long lead halfway through or just beat them in the last 10 seconds. cuz if ur in the lead, it stinks, cuz at the very end of the race with like a few seconds left, u get attacked with like everything! urgh!

i stick to mario and zip zip b*ike (nice and speedy), but i might use other characters and b*ikes once i unlock them. i still need to beat 150cc. hey are u aloud to use other character's b*ikes? like is wario aloud to use mario's?

hey arya, toph, sokka, and aang, are u playing on 50cc?

Thanks for the advice, Shade :D

@Forsworn: Nah, we just played 4 players so far. And I think Sokka and Aang just played online a little. We should start 50 cc today though :D

I don't think you can use other b.ikes with other characters....but then again I wouldn't know, I haven't really tried that lol

Yup, thanks, Shade. :)

I don't think we'll be playing the 50 cc anytime soon. There's always at least two of us who want to play at the same time. We'll get around to it though.

I think there are some vehicles that are available to any character, and some that are only available to a few. I always use Waluigi, and every time I race I ride the Wario Bike. And I think the Standard Bike is open to everyone... not really sure, but I'm just guessing.

So what's everyone's favorite level(s)? I like the Mushroom Gorge and the Peach Beach. Oh, and Waluigi Stadium and Toad's Factory are pretty cool. 8) And there was this other place in the trees or something, but I can't remember what it was called right now.

EDIT: Lmao! Toph and Sokka are playing on Wi-fi right now, and there was this one guy named "momo"! Ring any bells, Avatar fans? :)

Hehe, those tips helped a bit!

Lol actually, I already did two cups on 50cc. And now we have the Star Cup.

Yeah, because I don't have many vehicles for my players. ( I use Mario, but sometimes Luigi.) I like to use the Sugarscoot b.ike.

I like that new level called Koopa Cape, the one with the water current and lots of jumps. I played Rainbow Road on Wi-fi and it was extremely hard! Or maybe that was because I was using the wheel. The Gamecube controller is much easier.

Lol yup! That was so weird!

No, not really. All the other characters are recycled besides him.

I can't believe you all use the GC controller. The wheel is definitely the best way to play. Seriously, I'm doing Mirror Cups with the wheel. If you practice, it's just as good as the GC controller.

My favorite level is Peach Gardens.

I dunno...I guess I'm just used to it. Or maybe I'm a little old-fashioned.

I haven't played enough to know many of the levels yet...lol. But I do like that Mushroom Gorge one.

@Alpha: Yeah, I actually used the whee a lot, and now I'm getting first place a lot. I'm just as good as I am with the GC controller. But doing tricks and wheelies are much easier with the GC controller.

Oh, and who's Rosalina?

@Katara: I think we need to do Grand Prix more so we can get all the levels. But I really like the Koopa Cape and DK Summit places.

Yeah, we really should get started on the 50cc races. I can't stand those POW block items, though. They annoy me.

Tricks and wheelies are fine with the wheel. I can't stand using the d-pad to do wheelies. Flicking the wheel works better for me. Flicking it down doesn't work that well, but I just hop into drifts when I reach a corner.

Rosalina is a character from Super Mario Galaxy. She helps you throughout the game. I guess they just brought her in.

If you use the wheel, you can dodge Pow Blocks. You flick the wheel when the block is at it's smallest size, right before it hits. You still lose your items, but you won't lose any speed.

Hmm... idk, the wheel for me is really annoying. I guess I just need to use it more. It seems like the GC controller is much easier, but maybe it's just because I'm used to playing DD with it.

Ooooh, I see you're going for the ladies, eh alpha?

Are you serious? You can dodge those annoying little items? Man, why didn't you tell us before? Lol but can you dodge them with the GC controller? Just wondering...

Probably. It's weird, I use the GC controller in Brawl for the same reasons you give here.

I guess. I do prefer to use them on bikes...

You didn't ask. And as far as I know, there's no way to dodge them with the GC controller. Try using the d-pad at that time I guess, since that seems to be equivalent of flicking the remote.

On who? Lol never mind, I won't ask. A man has his secrets.. and so do alphas! Okay, I don't know what I talking about here.

Yeah, I'll give it a try next time I play.

Oh, I see. OH, I see now. You're a naughty little boy, aren't you? Wait, I'm younger than you.. okay, this is getting really weird now.

No. All we have is that Sprint internet card thingy. We have a network at our house, but the Wii won't connect to it.

  I guess I am.

So, do you use a light, medium, or heavy character?

I can't seem to play competitively with the wheel, the turning's just not reliable enough. I'm just so used to the GC controller...

All time best level in the whole entire game: DK Summit :o

I use Yoshi. I'm assuming he's light....? Or medium probably

Are you serious?! Lol I thought he was light.. oh well. DK, Wario, and Bowser are definitely heavy, right? And how do you know all this anyway?
Toph wrote:

I know what you mean. I'm so much better with the GC controller! For some reason, when I play with the wheel, it seems as though I go slower. With the controller, I was like going at 100 MPH! And I was even able to control what I was doing.
Toph wrote:

I agree. It's like it was made for tricks! Remember that part of the level where there are all those bumps on the ground and you can either go over those or take the small ramps with the boosts on them? That part is crazy, because you can do a trick on every bump. It's amazing.
Toph wrote:

I think he's medium. But wait, if Waluigi is heavy, I think Yoshi should be too. Idk, let's see what alpha has to say.

I know because I've owned the game for like two months.

If you want to see someone's wait, look at their standard bike or kart. If it's Standard Kart S, they're small, M is medium, and L is large.

Turning's fine with the wheel. You can always use automatic until you get used to the wheel, then switch to manual when you get the hang of it.

Peach Gardens was always my favorite on the DS (except Moo Moo Farms, which isn't on this one), so that just carried over.

Yoshi's medium. And you can stop treating me like I know everything.

Yeah, that's the easiest way to tell. Plus what karts and b'ikes they have available.

It's fun, but it's not anymore now that I have the Wii version. Like playing Melee after Brawl.

That's what I meant.

I like the new Rainbow Road a lot though. Pulling off the jumps across the huge holes and pulling ahead of everyone is pretty fun.

To unlock her... get a one star ranking in every cup on Mirror, play 50 games and have Super Mario Galaxy save data on your Wii, or play 4,950 games. Courtesy of a Prima Guidebook, I don't have it committed to memory.

Yeah, whenever I play on Wi-fi, the people always choose Rainbow Road. Even after we just play there, they choose it again! It gets annoying, but at least now I'm used to that level. I'm actually starting to come in first place over Wi-fi.

Lol, thanks for the cheats, Shade. Those will probably come in handy. :)

Grumble Volcano? I always liked that level....hehe. DK Summit is so fun to play in! After all the jumps in the new levels, it's boring to play in any of the old levels. I wish they hadn't put in all those old ones like the old Mario Circuit or w/e....Rainbow Road is tricky with the wheel, but the most annoying level in the game (at least for me) is Moonview Highway. I mean it's a really fun level, but the cars get really annoying...

how do you unlock King Boo? cause I'm sitting here looking at him and I can't remember unlocking him (honestly, seeing as how I started my own file only today and now I have King Boo, Diddy Kong, Birdo, and Rosalina)

oh well I have all the 50cc beaten... so yea that may be so...

How to cheat a Blue Shell of your wheels: your first in the 150cc with two people right on your tail and all of a sudden the Blue Shell warning starts. what do you do?

A)hope that you have a mushroom
B)wait until the blue shell dives at you at this moment you can use your mushroom and effectively dodge the blue shell (oh and you need a little luck too cause after the shell comes the POW and red shells  )

@Old levels: Lol, I love playing all the old levels. Especially since I own every Mario Kart except the GBA one.

@King Boo: Finish the 50cc Star Cup in 1st place, or play 750 games. Although you guys already figured it out.

@Blue Shell: I think I've dodged a blue shell once, and it was all luck. Besides, I got nailed with 2 red shells right after anyways...

I see what you mean, they ARE pretty classic :D But sometimes they just need some new stuff too, lol. Well they do have new levels...so basically it's a great mix of old and new combined to make a fun game

We got King Boo only because we beat the 50 cc Star Cup; we definitely haven't played 750 games

Wow, I had no idea you could dodge those!! Whenever I get a blue shell warning, I just hit the brakes, let the 2nd person get in front of me, and let THEM have it. Then I just get in first again lol. Though dodging it sounds like a much better strategy...

I know I didn't play 4,950 to get Rosalina.

Actually, since you need a mushroom, chances are you won't be able to dodge it. You usually don't get those in 1st. Letting someone else get hit is usually your best bet. But if you can dodge it, it's one of the best moves you can make.

Wow, you have to play that many to get her?? I doubt we'll be unlocking her any time soon then, we don't have any Super Mario Galaxy data to help us out...

True. In first place you don't get very good items/pickups/weapons/whatever you want to call them. I guess they're all right though; they're just defensive anyway.

Have you ever used a blue shell in first? It turns around and hits you...

Wow. I don't know which of those is harder to do... The Mirror class is probably easier, since it wouldn't take nearly as long as the 4,950 games

Really? I've never gotten a blue shell in first, lol. I guess you'd have to get it in like 4th or 5th and then move up to first, then use it...

You can get Rosalina that way? Cool, I'm just happy there's an easier way to unlock her, because I seriously doubt we'll ever play that much, or get Galaxy.

Lol, that's kind of funny. How did you get a blue shell in first place anyway? Do you get the item when you're in last and then make your way to the top without items, and then when you get in first, use it?

So how exactly do you dodge the blue shells again?

EDIT: Do I even have to say it?

Hehe, sorry about that

Umm I'm not exactly sure...I think you just use a mushroom when the blue shell's coming after you...oh, Shade's post said that you use the mushroom when the blue shell is diving at you. So there's your answer I guess lol

It doesn't matter, I'm kind of used to it from avatar rocks. :D

Sweet, that's a good technique. It seems like this game is much more advanced than DD. At every given moment you have to be doing something. When you're turning, you need to drift, when you're in the air from a high jump, you're doing tricks, and even when you're simply driving straight, you could do a wheelie (if you use a b.ike). And not to mention the enhanced graphics.

True

I know what you mean. It's a huge improvement since DD. Though I have to admit, we had some REALLY fun times playing that game, just the four of us....for hours...heheh!! But now we can do that with this new Mario Kart too!! Lol. The tricks are so fun to do, too. I love when there's like 5 bumps in a row and you do a trick off every one of them :o

Yeah, it was fun. And you're talking about those bumps from DK Summit, aren't you? :) They have them in Rainbow Road too.

Yeah, pretty much :P That level is just soo fun to play in!! I especially love that huge half pipe part of it....hehe!! Rainbow Road would be funner if you weren't trying to not fall off while doing tricks, though. See, that's the thing, in DK Summit, I can just kinda go crazy. But in Rainbow Road you have to be more....cautious? lol

Once you get good at it though, you don't need to be cautious. At the part with the wavy ground where you can do tons of tricks, you begin to do them on each wave, and using the speed you get to jump those two holes rather than go around, and cut ahead of tons of people.

Really? They always seem to be faster than me.

I got in 4th or 5th, and got up to 1st, and decided to try it.

Once you do, it's a fun level.

Maybe that's because you're playing on harder levels than us.

I was about to ask, and I was thinking about that. I remember in DD I had a star in first place, so when I used it I was nearly lapping the person in dead last.

I think it's fun. If you have a star, you can easily jump over those big holes, but you should do a trick while you're in the air so you can stay up there a little longer.

actually, ur right, in 150cc they seem to be ahead, but i usually get a lead by the 2nd or third lap.

oh that's how! lol.

yea, but i always fall off!

@star- and don't forget u can go in the grass and not be slowed down, which can really help. u can also do that with the big mushroom!

and if u do a trick, i like the fact that u can get a speed boost.

And when you get in the lead, you get nailed by red shells constantly.

If you're using the wheel, that happens a lot at first. I hated RR when I wasn't good. Now that I am, it's great.

Yeah, that's always good. I hated that you couldn't get the Golden Mushroom in DD, because it was the Toads special item.

Well, if you didn't, tricks would be pointless.

One thing I hate about Mirror mode, I always start drifting the wrong way because I expect the turn that normal. I never manage to snake back in time to avoid hitting a wall.

That's true. I always get a green shell or banana and hold L so that it stays behind me and I can easily avoid getting hit. My only problem when I'm in the lead are blue shells.

Yeah, and I never used the Toads either. I used Waluigi and Bowser as a team. In Mario Kart Wii anyone can also get a bomb, and that was Waluigi and Wario's special in DD.

True. Drifting is also much better thanks to the boost it provides.

Lol, I wouldn't know much, since we're not too far yet, but over Wi-fi, some people chose Mirror Mode in Wario's Gold Mine, and I did the same thing. I ended up doing not so good.

I have the same problem. But when I try to slow down, the computers are too far behind me to get behind them.

It would be cool if characters still had their own special items though.

At first, I though that there wasn't any drifting and that it was just a straight-forward racing game. But it's actually more sophisticated and playing is harder than it looks.

Yeah, and with those banana carts to avoid, the level may be the most annoying in the game. I should practice there a lot.

Oh yeah, and about avoiding the POW Blocks, for the GC controller, Alpha was right. You have to do a wheelie by pressing up on the D Pad.

so that's how you do a wheele on the GC controler... ah

I'm sick of that one group that races the same track over and over honestly all 11 others keep picking WGM while I'm picking things like mario's speedway... (but their good pratice and really bad drivers plus their an easy way to unlock birdo )
