 2012
Whoa, at first I thought there would definitely be a topic for this movie by now, but I guess not. Oh well, I haven't made a topic in a long time, so here goes!
So guys, do any of you plan on seeing this movie? I mean, I definitely don't believe in any of that "end of the world" stuff, but the movie based on it looks great! I have a feeling the greatest special effects of all time will be seen in this movie. Plus, when I saw the trailer in the theater, it was really dramatic and suspenseful, so I think I wanna see the movie!
The trailer is found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDiG49OXxS8 and the official site is found here: http://www.whowillsurvive2012.com/
What do you guys think of the movie?! It's coming out just on the 13th of this month!

 Re: 2012
I think I'll wait until comes out on video... I'm not a big action fan, and this whole shameless exploitation of irrational fears annoys me. But I'll watch it, if only so I can complain about it, as per my English heritage. You're probably right about the special effects, though. It looks extraordinary in that aspect.

I most likely won't be the one to make the decision to see it, I'll probably just be the one tagging along See, that's how things work with us... one of us wants to see a certain movie, and the rest all come too xD So yeah, I guess it looks alright, cool effects, so if you (Raf) want to see it, then I will too
As for the poll ... Is this real life?!?!! DAVEY FTW

 Re: 2012
Yay, people posted in my topic! By the way, two people chose "No way, this looks stupid." I wonder who they were.
@Kotor: Yeah, I know what you mean, everyone's overreacting about something that's completely unreasonable. But there's already a topic in the DragonRider's Council for discussing views on the actual theory. So you'll watch it? Cool! We can discuss it then if the odds turn out we both end up seeing it.
@Toph: Lol, yeah, I guess I wanna see it. We should make plans to go, maybe buy tickets early, since a lot of people are interested in movies about this kind of stuff.
@Red: Lol! So I'm guessing you were one of the people who votes for "Maybe, if I feel like it."? The movie looks really dramatic to me, that's basically the only reason why I'm considering seeing it. And also because those visual effects.

I'll probably watch it because I like survival stories and I agree the special effects look awesome, but I, like seemingly everyone else don't think that 2012 is going to be the end of the world.

This movie looks awesome. Great special effects, from what I've seen. Disaster movies are fun to watch.

 Re: 2012
We just saw the movie last night, and I must say I was blown away by it! The special effects were outstanding, and everything seemed so realistic. When we were on our way back home, I looked around and thought the world around us would start being destroyed like in the movie! They also included a storyline along with it, like the coming-together of a family that was torn apart. Everything was so thought-provoking and realistic.
They also had a lot of comedy in there. The whole theater was laughing at their jokes!

 Re: 2012
I saw the movie yesterday. It was awesome! Totally amazing special effects and CGI. I loved it! The plot wasn't bad either. Also, did you catch all those random Wisconsin references? Well, I'm from WI, and a bunch of people in the theater cheered when they mentioned the second one. (The magnetic poles one). It was hilarious. But yeah, cool movie.

 Re: 2012
LOL I thought the south pole joke was soooo bad, I mean, IT"S NOT THAT COLD IN WISCONSIN!!!! though it seems true that everyone knows someone in Wisconsin lol and the first one was a little insulting, it's like, "Nothing happens in Wisconsin, we should go back there" and yes, they cheered here too when Wisconsin became the south pole lol (The sun ***** the world again lol)

 Re: 2012
Yeah the first one was kinda mean.
Though they meant the magnetic south pole was in Wisconsin, not the geographic. Or at least, I hope that's what they meant. Otherwise the scientific inaccuracies might be too much. lol
But yeah, I tried to find out if one of the writers or producers is from WI or something, but I couldn't find anything. Kinda weird. lol
I'm totally gonna buy this movie when it comes out.

 Re: 2012
well if you add plate displacement theory on top of the poles switching polarity, Wisconsin became the Geographic "south" pole that plus we do have the Frozen Tundra lol maybe they just have something against us Wisconsinites, you never know

 Re: 2012
Yeah, but according to the movie, the continents didn't get misplaced north or south too much. The Himalayas only moved a few thousand miles east and slightly north, I believe. So I think it was only magnetic south pole. (They were discussing magnetic field-lines as well.)
lol they might. You never know. Maybe Roland Emmerich had a bad experience in Wisconsin or something. Or a very good one. Maybe that was his way of commending us. lol idk

 Re: 2012
Haha, I'm not really following the whole Wisconsin thing. [stupid question] You guys are from Wisconsin, right? [/stupid question]
I actually don't even remember hearing those jokes in the movie. I guess, me being in Pennsylvania, I didn't pay much attention to references to other states. It's some psychological thing, isn't it?
You guys know what's weird? In the movie, they showed a variety of religious monuments and statues being destroyed, but they actually didn't show the Ka'bah being destroyed. The Ka'bah is the most sacred Islamic building that we believe is the home of God. Now I don't want to get into a whole religious conversation/argument here, but, since I'm Muslim myself, I'm interested in why the director decided to leave a clip of that out. Maybe he admires Islamic beliefs? Or maybe he was just too lazy and didn't feel like creating a clip to show that? Do you guys have any ideas or any knowledge about this?

 Re: 2012
Probably because it's not as recognisable in the West where the primary audience of this film is. Or that the Ka'bah is not as spectacular in structure as the St. Peter's Basilica for example. I mean in comparing the scale of these structures. In disaster movies, the bigger and more recognisable structure getting destroyed, the better it is. That's my theory. (or something to do with the film's plot, I haven't seen it yet) I'll return to pompous lurking now lol

 Re: 2012
I agree with kotor. It's probably not very recognizable to most people that will watch the movie. If they had a clip of that getting destroyed in, most people wouldn't know what it was.
And yeah, me and Shade are Wisconsinites. Yay!

 Re: 2012
I may see this when it comes out on DVD but I'm not sure. Most of the commercial was CGI and I'm not a big fan of that if you have real people in the movie. The plot seems slightly interesting, but the picture looks cheesy

 Re: 2012
Are you kidding? The CGI was amazing! It was unbelievably mindblowing! It was really awesome. I love CGI, especially in this movie.
If you rent it or buy it or whatever, make sure you watch it on a large tv with a good sound system.

I'm going to go see the movie tomorrow for sure this time, no doubts!!! I bet it's one of those movies you HAVE to see in theater to appreciate it, like the Matrix. My dad saw the Matrix in theaters believe it or not, and he LOVED it.

This is an amazing movie to see in theaters. It just fills your senses with awesome effects.
And The Matrix is amazingly awesome no matter how you see it. One of my favorite movies.

 Re: 2012
I SAW IT I SAW IT IT WAS AMAZING I NEARLY SHRIEKED OUT LOUD DURING A FEW PARTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
heehee, everytime they mentioned Wisconsin, the whole theater just laughed even though they were supposed to be serious moments...lol I went with my step-mom and she had to ask about a few of the scientific facts and I was so proud of myself that I could answer them and know I was correct! Heehee, it felt good to be smart!!!

Yes, yes it was, and I knew the first Wisconsin thing wasn't serious, but even during the serious moments, it was still so dang funny. I actually said, "Well, guess you can't move south like you planned to Dad." Oh and it IS for the scientific things.

Lol, I can imagine how that would've been for you guys. It's weird; if you guys were from a different state, like me, you wouldn't notice it. It's funny to think of how things can change in different places.
We watched it again this weekend because my cousin had it on his computer and he hadn't seen it. It was still great, but definitely not as much as when we saw it in the theater. It makes everything so much more dramatic and sends a chill down your spine with the big screen and such. Oh well, when you watch it for the second time you still feel the intended sensation.

I saw it last night. I thought the story line was good and most of the special effects were pretty good some of them plain sucked. They could've done better in that area at least.

The special effects? I thought those were all phenomenal! I couldn't find a single flaw in them, and the movie almost fooled me since everything seemed so realistic! Lol, I guess that's what you thought. I personally thought the special effects were the best part of the entire movie.

It was scary how realistic it was.
The special effects were great! The earthquakes, tsunamis, and the volcanic eruption were all spectacular.

 Re: 2012
i would have to disagree with that some of the special effects were a bit over kill. also there were way too many close calls when they nearly died every few seconds but they survive then it happens again and almost die again too much good luck for me.
but other than that it was an okay movie. i have my own thoughts on what will happen in 2012 anyway.
