How to Role Play
First of all, a role-playing game (RPG) is a game in which members (players) take upon the roles of characters and collaboratively create narrative like stories. Most RPG’s don’t have plot lines, and simply follow the flow of what is happening in the story itself. Conflicting minds rarely let a story finish, so a conclusion to the constructed events and characters hardly meet an end.
Example of an RPG Bob says - Jack ran up the hill and saw the big blue truck before it passed behind the huge trees. He ran after it and to his surprise it stopped around the bend and begun backing up towards the cliff. Jane says – Louise parked the truck right upon the cliff’s edge, and before climbing out of the vehicle she grabbed her rifle from the seat next to her. Bob is one member, and Jane is another. They both tell the same story by sharing different perspectives through different characters.
RPG Rules
- Don’t force actions or dialogues onto other characters.
For example: You can’t – Louise turned around and fired a well aimed bullet at Jack’s chest thus killing him. You can – Louise turned around and fired a well aimed bullet at Jack’s chest hoping to kill him. You can’t – Louise yelled at Jake spitefully “I hate you” and then raised her gun while he pleaded “Please don’t kill me” You can - Louise yelled at Jake spitefully “I hate you” and then raised her gun waiting for his reply. - Do not use any sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive language.
- Only role-play your own characters, unless another player gives you permission to take charge of theirs.
- Do not God-mode or power play.
God-moding is the endowment of god-like abilities (strength, age, magic, etc.) upon a character. Power playing is the disregard of another member’s character's attack/ actions, or role-playing other characters by not allowing them time to react.
RPG Terms “OOC” stands for “Out of Character”. “IC” stands for “In Character” NPC’s are characters that don’t have a restricted member behind them and can be used by anyone in the RPG
Hope all of this helps, and if there is anything more to be added I will gladly do so.
