they can refer to something else, like when Arya asked Eragon how he was doing, he said better than before, referring to his back.

Most likely she was shocked that Eragon likes her. I think that it would be a first instinct to say no.

I think Eragon has feelings for her, because at his age when he sees a hot chick he's attracted to her. However Arya has no feelings whatsoever with Eragon, because she was in love with an elf who died in the beggining of Eragon. Also she is much older than Eragon.

there are 3 reasons eragon likes arya:

1. she's an elf and is therefore attractive

2. she looks eragon's age, and so makes here seem even more attractive

3. eragon remembers angela's prophesy of him marrying someone of royal birth, and therefore he thinks it's more likely.

I never said she would approach Eragon. Her sense of duty has been so embedded in her mind and body, it would seem ridiculous on her behalf to just go to Eragon and start flirting with him. Nevertheless she is capable of the weakness of the flesh. I do believe she will finally come to understand her feelings for Eragon early on the next book.

Eragon isn't just some love struck teenager. Eragon is a a lot wiser then that. He likes her because she is a friend, is a magic user and an amazing sword fighter. Arya was for a long time the closest thing he had to another Dragonrider.

That's some of the reasons but with the closest thing to a rider is wrong. I think he likes her because she is the most beautiful elf/woman he has ever said.

1. on page 5 of eragon, it says about arya: "her beauty which would have entranced ANY MORTAL MAN, held no charm for him" note the ANY MORTAL MAN part, eragon is a mortal man!!!

he fell in love with her BEFORE he knew she was a princess, and actually didn't like the fact, besides it works with the prophesy. He saw it as another obstacle keeping him from her. Nasuada isn't royal, unless her mother was. her position does not make her of noble blood.

there's only one problem with that theory: HE ISN'T IN LOVE WITH HER!!! actually, there are two: she is his leigelord, so it would be morally wrong for her to seek a relationship with him.

Eragon is not one to be fickle in love. He loves Arya and that most likely won't change.

First, the 'her beauty' thing is a metaphor to describe how beautiful she is. We haven't seen countless Varden staring at her star gazed have we?

Eragon was in the capital of the elves for a long time. If he only likes Arya because she's a beautiful elf, then he would have been dumb-struck with all the other pretty elves walking around.

If we are to go by the textual meaning of the book, Ayra's feelings for Eragon are those of a friend. If we are going to go by speculation, she has feeling of "more than just a friend," only she has not confronted them.
