Zalda
Yes, i've finally made a male charry. Sometime i should make an evil charry that's actually powerful. And before anyone asks, yes, Corido is going to become a charry, too.
Name: Zalda (Birth name Haerin)
Age: 28
Skills: Zalda is an expert swordsman, is very fast and has been taught everything there is to learn, but he has absolutely no skill whatsoever at subtlety. He’s good at attacking the weak spots, seeing an attack coming and fending it off, but has absolutely nothing when it comes slowing down, assessing the enemy, dropping back slightly to let them think they’re winning. His main skill comes in strength. Zalda is incredibly strong and can usually win by sheer force.
Zalda’s skill with magic is similar to his swordsmanship. He has incredible magical power, but no subtlety to speak of, he isn’t good at examining his enemy’s wards and finding a spell to slip through them, he usually wins with sheer power.
Gender: Male
Race: Shade
Hair: Violet
Eyes: Violet
Home Village: Gil’ead
Parents: Hanna and Lonech
Siblings: Corido
Character history: Zalda was born as Haerin in Gil’ead to Hanna and Lonech, one of Gil’ead’s richest merchants. From the start it was clear that he was very ambitious, but his parents made no attempt to curb his fierce personality. They said ambition was a good thing. They were too blinded by adoration for their son to see he was too ambitious. When Haerin blackmailed one of his “Friends” into giving him money, when he knifed a pet cat and nearly killed it, and did numerous other things, very few of these reports reached his parent’s ears-No one wanted to annoy one of the most influential families in Gil’ead-And when his parents did occasionally hear about what Haerin had been doing, they managed to shake it off as only misinterpretation of the facts, and Haerin got off with only a severe scolding. When he was born, Haerin even began to torment his younger brother, Corido, but Corido was too frightened of his older brother to tell anyone, and when he did tell, he usually regretted it. Haerin was taught fighting and swordplay and excelled at in all these subjects. His parents saw nothing in it, insisting on believing that he was an ordinary boy, though rather ambitious and not very friendly. When he was thirteen, Haerin asked to take up sorcery. As usual, his parents did not see any dark motives behind this and got him sorcery lessons, saying that he was just an ambitious boy who was interested in magic.
But they were wrong. Though Haerin’s parents refused to see any darkness in their son, it was there. He had dreams of ruling all Alagaesia and the lands beyond, but even he knew he did not have the power. Which was why he took up sorcery. For five years he learned the fighting arts, magic, mental barriers and attacks, and sorcery, until, when he was eighteen, he decided he was ready.
Haerin liked hunting. When he hunted, he could kill things and no one made a fuss. Once he had killed a little girl’s puppy. That was about the only time he had ever really gotten into trouble. So, nobody thought anything of it when he said he wanted to go hunting, no one thought anything of it. He shoved a lot more than necessary for a quick hunting trip into a bag, and was gone.
Haerin’s plan was this: He would go deep into the woods, then call up one of the great spirits, then allow it into his mind. But he would not let the spirit posess him. No. He would use the spirit to make himself more powerful, and then, then he would be ready. No longer would he be Haerim, the rich merchant’s son, he would be Haerim the conqueror! Ruler of the empire, the Beors, and even Du Weldenvarden and the lands beyond!
Haerim went deep into the woods, then began preparing himself. Even he, boiling with impatience for the moment to finally come, knew that this was a very dangerous process. Carefully-Or as carefully as Haerim ever was-He warded himself against the spirit. When he was finally done, Haerim called the spirit.
His breath coming a bit faster as excitement rose in his chest, Haerim watched as a sinous, shadowy figure rose from the flames. The shadow came entirely out of the fire, then, its movements like that of ink flowing, drifted toward Haerim. It swirled around his waist, brushed his fingers, seeming to examine him like a wild animal. Then suddenly, it attacked. The shadow abruptly swirled upward and into Haerim’s head. Haerim felt the spirit attacking and caught it, not allowing it to overwhelm him, but not allowing it to escape, either. The mental fight lasted over half an hour, but Haerim won, wrestled the spirit down and locked it into his mind. No longer was he Haerim, son of Lonech. He was changed. He was Zalda, the shade. As power flowed through him, Zalda loosed a howl of triumph at the sky.
Zalda began running toward Uru’baen, and as he ran, he planned. He would offer his service to Galbatorix, learn as much about Galbatorix as he could, and then he would strike. Defeating Galbatorix would be hard, but certainly not impossible-Galbatorix might be strong, but he was only one man, and his servants couldn’t be as powerful-Just look at how easily his other shade, Durza, had been defeated-And once he had conquered the empire, he would move on to the rest of the world.
Zalda was enlisted in Galbatorix’s service and soon became one of his most important men. For ten years he served, and only made any really big errors twice.
The first time Zalda made a mistake was when he was given orders to capture two spies. Galbatorix had received news that, at a designated time and place, two of the Varden’s spies would meet, and one would be carrying extremely important information. Zalda captured them and locked them in the dungeon, determined to get the information out of them. His impatience being stronger than his caution, he took no care and gave orders for them to be tortured mercilessly until one of them spit out the information. Instead of getting them information that could have given them an advantage in the war, Zalda drove them insane, the information lost.
About just after this was when Zalda began hearing rumors: His brother, Corido, was getting troublesome, running all over the place, and, in general, being an annoying younger brother. He had a blue dragon with him. And he was spending a lot of time in Surda. Zalda’s annoying wimp of a little brother had become a dragon rider and allied himself with the Varden.
The second time Zalda erred was when a patrol captured an elf. He locked her up in an out-of-the-way fort and gave everyone who had seen her strict instructions to tell absolutely no one, on pain of death. He didn’t want Galbatorix finding out about this. He wanted the elf, and whatever information she carried, for himself.
The incident with the two spies and hammered some patience into Zalda, and he wasn’t taking any chances with the elf. So he did not torture her. He devised another plan: He would keep her in absolute darkness until her spirit was broken completely. He allowed her access to a tiny amount of occasional light, as all this was to get information from the elf without her going insane. This plan required far more patience than he had ever used in his life, but he wasn’t taking any chances, even though it nearly killed him to wait so long. Unfortunately, not letting Galbatorix know about the elf meant that he couldn’t send any more soldiers to the fort. There was no way he could lie about why he needed the soldiers without Galbatorix finding out, Zalda knew Galbatorix had spies everywhere.
Which was why the elf escaped. Later, he learned that her name was Ninya, she had joined that Varden, and was strenuously opposed against Galbatorix. That incident made him decide: He would have to strike against Galbatorix soon. He didn’t have enough power, he was tired of working in secret, he couldn’t do everything behind the scenes. If he had been able to send some more soldiers to the fort, the elf would not have escaped. If he hadn’t had to keep a low profile, hadn’t had to keep the elf secret, she would not have escaped. It was time to start gathering allies. Soon, very soon, he would strike. He would kill Galbatorix. He would kill that elf Ninya, if he found her. And he would most definitely kill that disgrace of a yonger brother.
Character personality: Zalda is a person with little or no patience. He can never see much point in waiting when he could be moving. In his opinion, immediate attack is almost always the best plan of action. Zalda never bothers to be subtle when it slows him down and is usually reckless. He has a very high opinion of himself, though he does not consider himself to be omniscient. Whenever Zalda gets in a fight, he generally wins, but only through sheer power. He never tries to be subtle, his only tactic is direct attack. For Zalda, losing patience and losing temper tend to go hand in hand, and when Zalda loses his temper, the best course of action is to extricate yourself from the room, and preferably the building if possible. If you are the subject of his anger, you want to be very, very far away. Zalda is very contemptuous of people who think slowing down can speed things up, people who get in his way and try to tell him to slow down tend to either die or get pushed somewhere very far away. When Zalda makes a decision, he chases down his goal with single-minded intensity, and anything in his path should jump out of the way or get squashed, because he won’t be paying much attention to anything but his goal. Unless it’s point-blank obvious that it’ll get him killed, Zalda has no compunctions against charging straight into something which already is or will probably turn into a fight. Zalda always acts first and thinks later. Zalda has absolutely no sense of decorum and will never beat around the bush. He always goes directly to the point.
Weapons: Zalda has only one weapon besides his magic: The sword. His sword is about three and a half feet long and a few inches thick, made of hard iron and reinforced with magic and built for transmitting strength to crush an enemy. The sword’s hilt has a ruby embedded in it and is spiderwebbed by purple-red lines. The scabbard is blood red, embroidered with designs in blue-purple thread.
Likes: Power, destruction. Not much else.
Dislikes: Galbatorix, Corido, having to slow down
Character’s physical description: Zalda is extremely tall, about six foot eight. His hair is dark purple, just a few inches past his shoulders. His skin is extremely pale and his eyes are the same color as his hair, filled with a malevolent determination. His shirt, pants, and ankle-length cape are all made of black velvet. The shirt is covered with red and gold embroidery, his pants have the same pattern on the cuffs and his cape on the edges. His swordbelt, also black, is thickly covered in the same embroidered design. From his belt hangs a broadsword. His boots are the same black as the rest of his clothes, though without the embroidery. The horse Zalda usually rides, Mangdyar, is as black as his clothes. The saddle is covered in the same designs as Zalda’s clothes. Zalda has a suit of heavy armor, though of course he usually doesn’t wear it, but keeps it in his saddlebags, though doesn’t bother to pad the armor to disguise clink of metal in his bags. Dreams for the Future: To become ruler of the world and destroy Corido
Reasons for Dreams: He thinks Alagaesia’s current rulers are weak and stupid and have let the Empire grow lazy and considers Corido to be a disgrace as a brother
Alignment/Side: Officially, he’s on Gablatorix’s side, but in reality, he serves only himself.
