I thought what I said was pretty simple. If you had comitted a crime, such as the killing of a person on the opposition team; the team you once belonged to. you then continued the killing to the opposition team even under a spell, would you go back to the team that you had killed members of? most likely not, because they would not trust you enough to be hospitable and welcoming. people would be watching you, every corner you turn, to see if you were going to do something wrong.

Brom specifically mentions in Eragon that if this moment ever came to be, Eragon would have to choose either serve Galbatorix or die. This Murtagh knew beforehand and he choose power, with the power he choose to serve Galbatorix.
You need to bring to mind the various conversations held between Eragon and Murtagh. In many of these Murtagh had expressed how he clung to life. So it falls to logic he rather serve Galby than die. He even tells so to Eragon in the Battle of the Burning Plains; "life is still too sweet for me to part with it so easily. No stranger's life is more important than Thorn's or my own ." (Eldest, 650)
I believe he is lost forever, if repentance should come to him, it would be at the brink of death.

I do need to point out that WE, the readers are assuming the 3rd egg will hatch for Ayra due to the fact that CP has paired traits of the riders with the dragons. However, he also has said that the magic does not necessarily has to be the same color as the dragons. Thorn can still mate with Saphira. He is not evil, that is just the way he has been forced to go because of Murtagh. A dragon's orientation is altered by the rider. He may be good at heart, but because he has a rider he follows his riders intentions. And it is still possible for Eragon to break Murtagh's oaths to Galbatorix.

As for Saphira really mating. It is in fact the green dragon she mates with. An interview form Shurtugal, CP said that Saphira ends up mating with the green dragon.

the third egg is the green dragon- i dnt no if cp actually stated that but since the green dragon is gonna b on the cover of the third book it most likely means he will b the 3rd dragon ( pattern: 1st book cover, saphira- 1st egg 2 hatch; second book cover, thorn- 2nd egg 2 hatch; 3rd book, greenie- 3rd egg 2 hatch? - if it was j/ some other dragon that cp was 2 make up 4 the 3rd book then he could have put glader (cant spell) on the cover of 1 of the 1st 2 books- he didnt so that means the green dragon will b the 3rd egg

i personally think it will be the green dragon in the third book. thorns evil and will probably end up dying just like murtagh. shrewkin, well who knows. he might turn good after galby is killed. i think qrqmis will probably die in the third book taking glaeder along with him. i dunno. to me the green dragon makes the most sense. or it could be some wild dragon.

it'd be boring if Saphira mates with a wild dragon. Shruikan is going to die, along w/ Galbatorix. I think that Thorn has 5 X the chance as Shruikan. Thorn COULD, though not likely, turn good then mate with Saphira, but Saphira already hates Thorn. They kinda got off on the wrong foot there. lol. the most likely is Greenie, because he will most likely be good, and Saphira will most likely be affable towards him, unlike how she would be towards Thorn or Shruikan.

The availaibily is more towards greenie and Thorn seeing how Oromis is on the brink of dieing and Glaedr along with him. And Shruikan and Galby are going to die so that excludes them, so Greenie and Thorn most likely.

i think that Saphira will have only distain for Thorn. And by then, she'll probably already have mated w/ Greenie.

But it takes like 6 months for a dragon to mature. And they'll need to be doing some stuff and not just sitting around waiting for the dragon training and maturing to end.

yeah thats true, but i don't think that for dragons age is a factor. saphira herself seemed to mature pretty fast.

5-6 months when they can mate and breath fire. but it will take at least that long for Greenie to be trained, which gives PLENTY of time for Eragon to make a couple smart moves on Arya, not like the CLEARLY stupid ones he's made.

hpoefully eragon will mature too. if he does as fast as dragons do then there shouldn't really be a problem. unless arya still only views him as a friend.

lol. i think that he has shown progress. And i think that she will gradually become closer to Eragon, because she will only really be able to relate to Eragon and Oromis. So she will become closer to Eragon, and that will posibally be the first step.
