Personally, I think she looks good on the book. She is shown in her relaxed state on the book, in a fight she would still look intimidating.

What I think they need to do w/Saphira is make her "anatomically correct"
It always bugs me that movie dragons have wings that are separate from their forelimbs.
There are no 6-limbed creatures (bugs don't count), and I don't think it is relevant that dragons are magic so it doesn't matter.
The best movie dragon I've seen was the Hungarian Horntail that Harry Potter fought in G.O.F .(the most recent HP movie).
Also, they'd better get the spikes correct, as they are featured prominently in Eragon (he lifts himself up by the spikes often), and I can't see where a rider would sit on a dragon with wings coming out of its shoulders. They should either be like bat wings, where the 'fingers' are the supporting features of the wings, or like 'flying squirrels' where there is a membrane connecting front and rear limbs.

Any comments on 'anatomically correct or incorrect dragons?

geez man first of all dragons are made up so they can have all the limbs people want no need to be a baby second of all a rider would most likely sit right behind the wings or right in front of the wings if you ever see the book by cornelia funke called dragon rider you would understand where they would sit.

It's fantasy. Fantasy means made-up. Made up means not anatomically correct. I'm in a bad mood today, so sorry if that sounded rude, but I think dragons would look strange with wings like that.

OK, I actually have a brain, and I do know that dragons are not *real*, and they can look like anything their creator wishes, but I think you miss my point: When I see an animated dragon that's supposed to look real, for *me*, for it to be believable, the body kinematics have to work. A 6-limbed beast, as they are portrayed in the majority of the dragon lore, would not be able to fly.
OK, so you say, "They're magic - they fly by magic, so it doesn't matter." Well, then, why have wings?

yes but it is not suposed to be realistic if they wanted that they would not make magic or even dragons. and why would they be unable to fly with four legs it clearly says that they have very large wings in order to fly. in fact it drives me crazy when people have to be so over analystic it is just a movie why make a big deal

first of all, the majority of dragon lore describes them as haveing hind legs and wings ONLY. second, if a creature were to have two lungs(one for air and the other produces a flaimable gas lighter then air such as helium) the creature could in theory fly so long as the wing span was enough. and if the creature were to chew minerals that would produce a sperk, such as flint, then when breathing through the second lung(filled with the flaimable gas) it would make fire. there are lots of things that people like you would miss because you have such a large brain but no imagination. have a nice day

ever thought of pegasus that horse with the wings and stuff. well he had 4 legs and 2 wings so why do you argue about dragons and not pegasus too. face it, it's mythology, it doesn't have to be scientifically provable. hey, nimbus, you did just prove a point. in real life, if dragons did exist, they would have two back legs and their wings, but dragons don't , so that just proves that dragons could never exist (not like i ever believed in dragons anyways)

its not about pegasus or dragons its not even about the reality factor. its about when you are watching the movie, you feel like you can believe for even just a moment that dragons are real.thats when you are not woried about plosibility.

Saphira will look like any typical dragon,(except for being sapphire and all), or hopefully just like the cover, but we will see... i hope she dont look fake, and i hope the movie wont ruine the book... it will probably give it more publicity....but then again we will see.... i am a huge fan of Dragons in general and as soon as the movie comes out i defenetly will be the first one there.... i finished both books a long time ago and for the time being im going to read them again, because well they are awesome and non-the-less exquisite....

Yup... it would ruin the movie, and it will never be better than the book, i mean how can you cram 400 and some pages into a 2 1/2 hour movie, word for word, and its specific scenes, its just not possible, the book will always be better, there is never an ending to words and the countless number of pages you fly by....

Not unless you have the movie being played at twice the speed than normal (Gotta use proof from book Paolini! Sorry!) Eg: Page 180: Nonoyoudontunderstandificanprovethattoadsdontexistthenthiswasafrogandneverwasatoad. Try to make sense of that!

Anyway, I think that Saphira should look just that way she does on the cover. Usually the face is the most hardest thing to achieve. DUH! Now about the fire problem. That brain/nerd/geek guy yeh sorry dont know yer name, yeh u said that it'd be hard for gases to just catch on fire.

1: Early in the book when Eragon is kidnaped on a flight to the spine, he says that he will freeze overnight, but Saphira says that "the fire in her belly" will keep him warm. Now either she has an extremely high body tempreture (more than any man-made furnace today) (How she can contain it I dont know, Dragons as said by Brom are mythical and magical to the extreme) and as soon as it's exposed to the open air, the air catches fire. Dont ask me how it just does sometimes.

2: Or if that thing about being able to make helium out of normal oxygen in a lung is possible, then as said in my former thing just above, her throat is hot enough to make it catch fire. Or like the ancient chinese used to use a certain paper that when dipped in some certain liquid it would catch fire. Maybe Saphira makes this liquid in her and her neck has certain chemicals in it to make it catch fire too like the paper.
