I was rereading eragon last night and when I came to broms story i saw something. He said that when the elves were defeated they retreated to their secret places.

wouldn't there 'secret' places be du weldenvarden?

It is possible that there are elves across the sea. Brom did tell Eragon that they loved the sea and traveled to Alagaesia, so that would mean that they had another home before. Maybe some elves went back there after the fall and were unknown to others of their race. That might be the reason Oromis or another elf didn't say anything. It's not a very likely theory, but it just popped into my head.

Maybe the Spine is one of those places and remember half of galbys army disappeared in there.

I think it's a good idea maybe the dream eragon had with the elf ship was happining when he dreamt it like with arya. But the dragons are a problem .

Brom was also at the time lying to Eragon because he knew where the elves where at the time having been there himself before gil'ead.

Yes, ships do start disappearing however they are the ships of merchants secretly supporting the varden such as Jeod and this because the twins are traitors who have been secretly giving information to galbatorix.
