Myn
Myn
Age:- Unknown, Appearing Young Adult/Post-Teenage
Gender: - Female
Skills: She is skilled in climbing and traveling across terrain, having done such all throughout her youth, and is quite agile by nature. She also is an above average sword fighter from her training by Thorvald, and has fair aim with the knife and hunting bow. She can instinctively call on bursts of extreme speed and and extraordinary strength when in mortal danger, but the backlash and sudden draining of strength after the exertion is very high, even dangerous. She also possibly possesses an ability in the magic arts, including displays of pyromania, but it is uncontrolled and dangerous to her at the moment.
Race: - Unknown
Hair: - Colored like this picture, except less preppy of course. http://celebhairstyle.files.wordpress.c ... d-hair.jpg
Braided like as in this picture. Reaches down to mid back, is thick but very straight. http://www.instructables.com/image/FQKA ... ur-own.jpg
Eyes: - Her eyes are a crimson/maroon color, which glow slightly, but is only noticeable after darkness has fallen. The pupil is dark red and circular, almost black. Eyes are otherwise normal in ability, framed with short maroon eyelashes.
Home Village: Unknown. Her adopted home is an isolated cabin, north of the village Eaon, on the island of Beirland.
Parents: Unknown.
Her adopted father is a human man by the name of Thorvald, a retired soldier and fisherman. He is a wizened but fit man in his later years, originally from the city of Kuasta. He never spoke of his past, except that he had fought in the war of the Rider's Fall many years ago. Myn asked him about it once.
"Myn, the past is overrated in my eyes, though it is true that yours will likely affect your life deeply one day. But your actions in the present, and when the past comes to confront you, will be how this world remembers you, and that is all that matters."
Siblings: - Unknown.
Character Personality:
Myn is a very quiet and disturbed individual. Due to the huge gap in her memories, she questions her sanity at times, and sometimes causes her to panic with fears of whether the persona she knows as "Myn" is real. At times, she has psychotic episodes consisting of mindless outbursts of violence, usually involving spontaneous combustion and pyromania. These episodes are usually triggered by extreme emotions, and she feels a paralyzing fear shortly before falling unconscious during the attacks. This is also quite detrimental to her mental state, and is a major factor driving her search for answers.
When she speaks her remarks are well thought out and lacking any awareness of tact, as she sees no logical reason to flatter or conceal her opinion. If another asks what she thinks, that is exactly what they will get, but she almost never does so unless prompted. It is one of the reasons Thorvald took her in, as he appreciated her sometimes difficult and confusing personality, because it was the opposite of what he’d hated in former life. She has little regard for life of any sort, in the sense that she is a very pragmatic person in action. Ever since the incident in with the hunter, she has ignored and maneuvered away from other travelers, especially humans, as she feels they are the most prejudicial of species to her. She rarely laughs but also rarely is angered, being a mellow person in truth; adding in sharp tongued comments and dry observations when she does choose to speak out loud. She possesses an extremely fertile imagination, which is another part of the reason for her reticence, the rest of the reason being she simply feels there is little that needs saying.
This all combines to portray an appearance of aloofness and mystery when encountering others, but she can present a facade of amiability when needed. She has no moral compass, but she knows she really can’t blame others for their natures and ignorance, because they most are too set in their ways to change or even consider alternative thoughts. (regarding her appearance) Other people and adventurers are mostly beneath her attention. Her only possibly soft spot is towards children, as they have not been corrupted by their adults yet, but she never approaches them due to their likely reactions. He does feel more at home with the non-human races, but figures she would still be subject of hatred and fear, hence the constant cloak over her body. She believes that the only true honor is in looking out for oneself, and those one considers allies, for she believes all other types of honor are hypocritical delusion. Now that Thorvald is gone, she is struggling to continue her growth into a person while still grieving over his death.
Character History:
Myn’s only memories of her childhood are of wandering lost in a strange, lush forest while it was heavily raining. Filled with the sounds of raucous birds and other creatures, she crashed and stumbled through the forest, trying to escape an overwhelming sense of fear. The last thing she remembers is something barreling through the treetops behind her. The rest of her childhood memory is completely blank. The next event she recalls is waking up an adolescent on the northern beaches of Beirland, and looking into the icy gray eyes of Thorvald. He carried her back to his cottage on the ridge and nursed her back to health, even after viewing her demon-like appearance.
Although Thorvald was a bitter old man who hated others intensely, he grew to be content with her presence. He knew that she had nowhere else to go, and always said she reminded him in spirit of someone from the war. He never did talk about the war much, but he had much to say on his adventures among the other races, and Myn would sit listening enchanted for hours. He often said that his biggest regret in life was never being able to spend any time with the dragons before they were wiped out.
"They can't be all gone!" Myn exclaimed, with a horrified expression twisting her features.
"No... they're not," Thorvald ground out with a heavy voice. "But Galbatorix controls the last mature dragon, Shruikan, and he holds the last three dragon eggs known to exist. Perhaps under his rule, the dragons will be rebuilt, but they will be not be the proud and beautiful race they once were."
And that was the last they spoke of that.
Thorvald seemed comfortable with her abnormalities, and as a result she never considered herself unusual over the years. As she grew older, she began to question her past and how she had come to the island. Thorvald had no answers, except to take her down to the beach where he found her. She spent many hours on that strip of land, first in searching vainly for clues, then as a spot of meditation and thought. She would entertain herself by picking up detritus thrown out from the great whirlpool, and spent many hours imagining stories for the nameless people brought to their violent end. Myn felt she had a kinship with the people, as often the only evidence that they had existed would usually be a bit of plank. She became very fit from traveling up and down the island, and from when Thorvald began teaching her the ways of survival and combat.
The day she discovered what others thought of her differences was when she met a hunter from Eaom traveling in the forest. She followed him for a time, unsure of whether to reveal herself. The hunter heard her advancing and swiftly turned around, thinking he was being stalked by a mountain lion. At first glance, he jerked back in terror at her appearance. She hid behind a tree trunk, but his terror quickly turned to anger, as he slowly drew his sword from its sheath. He made a sign with his hands and with shouting “I shall not suffer a DEMON to LIVE!!”, he ran at her, slashing with his blade. She was so shocked that his first wild swing almost decapitated her, but her body quickly reacted on some internal instinct. She spun away from his swing with incredible speed and twirled her way behind him, where she placed her hands on his head and tore it from his body.
She immediately blacked out.
When blearily returning to consciousness a few minutes later with a ringing headache, she discovered a smoldering circle of char extending some ten feet in all directions. The body of the hunter was destroyed and unrecognizable, looking like something sizable had hit it at an extremely high speed. Immediately focused by the memory, she ran back to ask Thorvald for help, shaken by the man’s reaction and her instinctively extreme violence. He told her that he had suspected ever since he had found her that she somehow had demonic ancestry or or some type of latent possession, which would explain her unpredictable bursts of violence and unusual appearance. He proceeded to tell her exactly who she reminded him of from the war: his best friend, who was a magician by the name of Reynard. They were cut off from the main army for weeks, and knew they would not survive long. Reynard, refusing to accept their imminent destruction, called a spirit into his body and became a Shade. In the resulting confusion and wholesale destruction caused by the new Shade, Thorvald and his men escaped, but the price was high. Reynard caused much mayhem and violence, eventually being hunted down after the death of many, many people. Thorvald said he always felt guilty that Reynard had never gotten another chance, and that was the original reason he had took her in. And he had always known that Myn would never get a chance either.
He said that he had tried to find out through discreet listening and questions over the years, but all he had ever heard were the wild old seaman’s tales of demons and beasts in far corners of the world.
“Perhaps the elves would know more.” was the last thing he ever said to Myn.
When he went fishing the next day he never came back. Myn waited for two weeks before discovering pieces of a boat that may have been his washing up on the shore. She was devastated, as he was the only person and family she’d known in her almost eleven years of life on the island. Her anger and sorrow were more than she had ever felt or could bear. The forests burned with the passions in her soul. Coming back to her senses, she ran to the cabin and went inside, where she grabbed Thorvald's sword and her equipment before the structure was consumed by the flames. She knew then at that moment it was time to leave. The next day she left for Eaom, and from there wherever her path would take her, one day hopefully leading her to the answers the ancient races may hold.
Weapons: She carries Thorvald’s old steel warsword, serrated knife, and her hunting shortbow.
The sword is of regular size, unadorned except for a single red rock set in the flat of the sword near the base.
Similar to A, in terms of hilt, not sword. Not nearly as fancy. http://home.istar.ca/~jcra4d/Media/britmil.jpg
The serrated knife looks like this, except less machined of course. https://www.hahnssurplus.com/images/P/KB1219.jpg
The bow is a small shortbow, suitable for hunting.
Likes: - Silence, wild berries, charts and scrolls of all types, hunting, lightning, trees, mountains, insects, clouds, the desert
Dislikes: - Most people, especially noisy ones, horses, fire, water, smoke, bees, salt, ships, the sky, cold
Weakness / Fear: - Water puts Myn into a sluggish state. The reason she stopped helping Thorvald fish was because of what happened the one time she fell in the ocean. It immediately put her into a stupor, and she almost drowned before he dragged her out. Water in all forms affects her negatively; in a downward arc the more she is submerged. Rain and fog make her feel sick, but she can function at reduced efficiency.
Her other major fear is of herself, and her lack of control when emotional or circumstantial extremes provoke unthinking violence and destruction. She fears her instincts, and the results of what happens to her afterward.
Another weakness would be her radiation of heat in place of sweating, as that may make her more visible to those creatures which possess infrared vision.
Animal Companions: - None.
Character's Physical Description:
Myn is approximately 5’8 (1.7 m) in our reckoning. She is corded with lithe muscles from exploring, climbing, traveling, and training her entire life. Every part of her body is a particular shade of red. Crimson eyes, burnt amber hair, tied back in a single braid such as displayed above. Her skin is a distinctive pinkish red, only appearing normal near the hands, with ruby colored nails filed to look human in appearance, being rather pointed and clawlike in natural form. But her most noteworthy feature is the short, fat, and sharply tapered horns growing out of her skull above her elfin ears. Similar to the top horns in the picture below. Her features are characterized by high cheekbones and a similar elfin tone to her features, like a narrower version of Cate Blanchett’s Galadriel in Lord of the Rings. They are marred by a slightly wider than spider-line scar extending from just underneath her right eye to the corner of her mouth. Her back also has several mysterious crisscrossing scars. Her ears are pointed and lay flat to her head. Her clothing consists of leather tanned from a species of small deer present on the island. A simple vest and leggings is all it consists of. She carries another war souvenir in her pack, an old set of iron mail with unknown origins, but ordinary enough. Thorvald’s old sword is belted in a musty deep brown leather scabbard around her waist, and a serrated knife is stuck in the other. She carries her pack and her short hunting bow on her back, along with a quiver of around fifteen arrows. Her footwear is Thorvald's old soldier boots, which he had kept in good condition in a cupboard for many years. Myn does not sweat, she instead radiates excess heat, resulting in her skin often being hot to the touch. Her voice is raspy, and her breath always carries a slight smell of smoke. Myn's teeth are slightly pinker than human standards, and are pointed in appearance, graduating back to normal towards the back of her mouth. Her lips are a dark shade of red. She always wears a voluminous black cloak with attached cape when traveling to hide her true appearance.

Pack: (except less stupid and commercial of course—the general shape and size) http://www.nungar.com.au/catalog/images ... ck-eng.jpg
Dreams for the Future: - To see all of Alagaesia and the world beyond, to discover her history and fill in her past, to find her original home, to fix the hole left by Thorvald’s death.
Reason for Dreams: - hope, given to her by Thorvald, that there are answers to be found.
Alignment/side: - Neutral
*crosses fingers that I did this right*

Re: Myn
I agree, this is a very nice character. I know there isn't an age you can give her, but can you put on how long she was with Thorvald for?
Other than that, I approve of this one.

Re: Myn
Edited, 4th paragraph of history. :} We all know there's something odd about his age, but she doesn't. :]
I had a quibble as well.. i originally wanted to have her completely remove the hunter's head, or make that bit more violent to make it seem more abnormal. I mean a lot of garden variety people could snap necks if they lost all semblance of civilization. (a la Steven King's Cell) I guess my broader question is what level of violence is acceptable in RP'ing.
thanks guys :]

Re: Myn
Well, I approve of most levels of violence, just don't put anything that could be considered torture.
