Remember when they were at the Menoa Tree? Remember the story she was telling Eragon and how she was telling him the lady was too old for the man? She was secretly saying that she knows she's old to Eragon and she knows of his crush on her. She's telling him not to fall in love with her just in case she isn't the one, because she too is developing her own crush on Eragon but she doesn't want to fall to hard or else he may drop her on her rear and go after some one his own age. Women may not always love back the man who loves her, but they usually love the fact that they're loved by the man...(??) got what i mean?? I'm saying that even arya not YET in love with eragon, she definitely like him and care for him. For a woman (which emotion is all that necessary, no matter how hard she tried to conceal it), it's a pleasant feeling; sooner or later (as long as there's no other man in arya's heart), will definitely fall for eragon.
In arya's case, i think she's already has some feeling for eragon.

Arya is just hasn't quite, how can I put this, learned to love again ever since her companion died. Her heart is so cold at the moment that not even her love for Eragon has warmed it. In fact, because of her lack of love, she wounded Eragon. Not physically, but emotionally, mentally, hell she even made him cry. Poor Eragon.

I doubt that... it is obvious that from the very beginning, Eragon has always seen Arya as his love. Paolini would not change such feelings that have been present so strongly throughout the first two books by replacing Arya with another girl for Eragon. Unless there is to be a strange twist within the third book - but that again is unlikely. Dramatic changes are always unexpected but they must also always be logical.

Eragon will be together with arya or be single forever!!

I think eragon knows that he will one day win over arya. He has the dream in the chapter called deathwatch, then the prophecy about the noble birth thing and then he meets arya and its love at first site. I think he truly beleives that he will marry arya when he knows all of these things.

I do not believe Arya and Eragon will end together and I refuse to believe she is playing "hard to get." I believe she only sees him as what he is; a normal HUMAN boy. She may admire the many wonderful and noble traits he has and may be fond of him, but I do not think there is anything else. I do remember the part in which Eragon asked one of the elves that accompanied them into the elves realm answer Eragon's question as for the reason of her sadness, that this belonged to her and it was not his to say.Somehow I feel that one of the slain companions in the trap laid out for them in the Spine may had had a relationship with her. Maybe I am wrong, but thses are my two cents.

And your dog suddenly attracted to her dog, and they both play together, and you both started to introduce yourselves and chat while your dogs are playing... And the next day you take your dog to park again and there she is already there with her pretty dog and they play again and you both chatting again...

I used a dog to stay in a story about park but a used it with Arya to make a link to Eragon books. But you're right dragon isn't pet but that doesn't mean that your dragon is you! So it will be unfair if Arya will fell in love with Eragon only because of bond between their dragons!

I feel Ayra is trying to discourage Eragon and rationalize her own feeling. Have you ever been in a position where your logic tells you something and you try to act upon that logic but your heart tells you something totally different? That's what I think what may be happening to Ayra. But against all logic, feelings for Eragon are developing inside her and she wants to do the right thing.

In the scene where Eragon does a fairth of Ayra and she breaks it, (Eldest pages 387-8) it just mentions as Ayra being frightened., and I quote: "Given the circumstances, is it so strange Ayra was frightened that your feelings for her could endanger everything we have worked for"'

Other than this specific moment I do not recall anytime in the book where she acknowledges having romantic feelings towards Eragon. If I am mistaken, pls direct me to where it is in the book, and I'll kick myself for being so unfair to Ayra.

well, when she tells him the story, i think she answers the question because it was as much for herself as him. she didn't let him trully ponder it. because she didn't want there to be another answer
