This is a really long argument and everybody is repeating themselves. Most people think it will either be Arya or Roran, but has everyone considered the possibility that Galbatorix might break the egg before it reaches his enemy's hands? Or who knows? Maybe the next rider will be Elva. She already has the Gedway Ignasia.

Well, I suppose now would be as good a time as any to present some possible evidence that suggests Arya. (Even though I still doubt it will be her.) I was playing the Eragon video game and at the beginning there is a sort of side mission where you help this little girl find a sword she calls "Blade of Grass". She describes it as being (I didn't memorize everything she said so bear with me)long, green, and sharp. When I found it I looked to see who I could equip it to and whose name did I see , much to my surprise? Arya's. More than likely it's irrelevant, but it didn't seem like a coincidence to me. I was playing the GameBoy Advance game,btw. It might be on the other models of the game, but I don't think it will be. What do y'all think?

no way! vanir is younger then arya it said in the book while they were sparring that vanir was of a younger generation! that was while eragon was having an attack.

and by the way ya know that the elves were also presented the eggs when they were only in their teens. not elf teens but #of years. and vanir was being mean because he thought eragon was really weak which turned out that he was wrong.

Arya


Arya is the most likely candidate to become the rider of the green dragon. First, there is the fact that she is an elf, and a strong and talented elf at that. From what we’ve seen of her skills both with magic and with the sword, she would require very little training to be useful in battle, merely enough time for the green dragon to become mature enough to fight well in battle, which would be as soon as the green dragon learned to breathe fire, around six months after hatching. Along with that, Arya is female, and not just that but Eragon’s love interest. If Saphira were to fall in love with and mate with the green dragon, that would change Arya’s feelings for Eragon and the two of them would fall in love, as well. Third, two of the most often mentioned facts about Arya are her eye and magic color: emerald green. While eye color certainly has nothing to do with becoming a dragon rider, all of the riders we’ve seen so far in the trilogy have possessed magic the color of his dragon. While there is no evidence that this is always true, it can be interpreted as foreshadowing to her upcoming relation to the green dragon.


The main piece of evidence against Arya is that people claim she is too old. However, there is no evidence that there is a set age limit for becoming a rider, so such a point is meaningless.

So, it is highly likely that Arya will be the rider of the green dragon.



Roran


Now we reach the group of four characters who are the most likely to become the rider of the green dragon. The main evidence people suggest for him is that, as Murtagh and Eragon apparently have the blood of a rider in them, Roran, who they claim also has the blood of a rider in him, should be one as well. This is wrong, however, as Roran is only related to Morzan (the rider he is supposedly getting blood from) because of Selena’s marriage to Morzan, and therefore does not have any blood relation to the man.

Counting against Roran is first the fact that he is human and second the fact that he is male. Now, Eragon spent about four months training with Brom and about ten months training with Oromis, and even after all that time and training, Murtagh was still able to beat him, with apparent ease. For Roran to be effective in battle, he would likely have to train for even longer that, and that’s an amount of time that the Varden just doesn’t have in this war. It’s likely that the Empire could win the war in that amount of time.


So, it’s possible but not probable that Roran will be the rider of the green dragon.

I think people just like Orik, and they don't like Arya or Roran. That's the only reason to "think" that he will be the next rider.

i have my own proof for Roran
1. Roran has to play a big part in book 3 and he is too weak to unless he is strenthened by a dragon.
2. he is mortal so without a dragon he will eventually die.
3. ergagon and roran go to helgrind wothout arya and that could be were they find the egg.
4. arya was with saphhiras egg for a very long time. if saphira didnt hatch for her why would the green dragon?
5. roran is related to eragon and Morzan.

Okay, here goes nothing.

For Roran to be a blood relative of Morzan's (giving him that Rider blood y'all have been talking about) his mother would have had to have stayed the night with Morzan. Or his dad would have married Morzan's sister or something. (It never said that Morzan had a sister, *sarcasm*.) We know that neither of those situations happened.

I think that Roran and Eragon are going to find the 3rd dragon egg in Helgrind. If they don't, the quest for the egg will take up to much time. And ppl? This last egg doesn't mean there won't ever be anymore dragons. It's entirely possible that Saphira mates, has eggs, and gives some to the Riders (Eragon, Oromis, and whoever). So any of these people could become Riders, even if it ain't for the green egg.

so anniebee, are you saying that you deny the fact that eragon is related to morzan? because eragon is related to morzan and roran is related to eragon so in other words, roran is also related to morzan.

But even if Murtagh is only Eragon's half brother through Selena, Roran still isn't related to Morzan by blood. He's not even blood related to Brom if it turns out that Brom is Eragon's father. I'm beginning to think Selena's history will play a slightly larger part in this than we give it credit for.

Uh. I don't know how many times I've gone over this, so look at the evidence I posed one more time. If it doesn't convince you, you're more stubborn than I thought possible.

This denotes that Bladgen had met Eragon's father. Morzan had never gone to Ellesmera, though Brom had.On pg. 435 of Eragon, Angela said, "He (Brom) loved a woman, but it was his affection which was her undoing." So what happened was she was carrying Brom's child and Morzan found out. She went to Carvahall and had Eragon. She then ran off, running from Morzan, was caught, and then killed. This enraged Brom and Brom went and killed Morzan. Later, he went to Carvahall to keep an eye on his son, Eragon.

rpm, no offense, but I have never seen anybody so stubborn! If Morzan had ever been to Ellesmera, he would have told Galbatorix where it was. Durza kept Arya alive so he could interrogate her about the where the ELVES, Varden, and dwarves are hiding. With this evidence we know for certain that Galby doesn't know where it's at. Not to mention, Oromis himself told Eragon that Galby hadn't been taken to Ellesmera yet when his first dragon was killed. He also told him that when Morzan betrayed the Riders, he haden't been taken there yet either.

And if Brom had told Eragon he was his father, Eragon could have become a liability to him if anyone ever found out where he was hiding. You can be sure that Brom wouldn't have turned tail and run if he knew there was a possibility of the enemy finding out who Eragon was. So it was safer and simpler to just keep the truth from him. Not to mention there was the possibility of Eragon blaming him for his mother's death when he got older.

Annie, i never saw you with much evidence besides what I put out, no offence. You always had backed up what I already said with maybe 2 more short lines, but mostly explanation and how the timeline works out.

I don't think it's going to be Roran. I also feel that I should say that it won't be Katrina either, since someone proposed that somewhere... I think Arya might be it, but my gut tells me she's not, and my instincts are always right. *shrugs* It's to late to bring in a new character for such a large role, so who could it be.... Maybe it's that Jarsha kid... He was the one who escorted Eragon to his meeting with the Council of Elders in Eldest. (Hmmmm, Elders and Eldest, hmmm...) Jarsha is also Jormundor's son. I found evidence of that in Eragon and in the time period these books are set in, it was very common for a son to have at least some part of his name be similar to his father's. In this case, it's the "J".

Then I wouldn't pick anybody because I really don't want the next Rider to be either Arya or Roran, because those are the obvious choices. CP should have fun with this book while still making it better than the last two (if that's even possible), so I think he shouldn't make the choice too obvious. I think it should be someone whose been in one of the last two books, but wasn't really all that important. Somebody like Jarsha. Or maybe.... I dunno, somebody unexpected and unusual.

Actually, it used to be a common theory until we decided she was way to young, no matter how old she acts and looks.

no one is to young for a dragon. in the days before the fall of riders i thought that most people/elves got their dragons at a young age.

Yeah, but Elva is only about a year old. Remember when she told Nasuada in Eldest that she made herself grow incredibly fast so she could talk to her? So she might have the body of a three or four year old, but she's really barely 1 yr old.

so...... she could still be the third rider.... arya is one hundred years old and no one has a problem with that.

i agree halfway with rpm12345, the part about brom being eragon's dad, but i just don't think orik will be a rider because dwarves were never part of the "dragon rider spell" or whatever you want to call it.

Orik will never be a Rider, can you people honesty see a dwarf getting on a 100 yr old dragon? Picture how enormous that would be, and then picture a short a dwarf is. And Glaedr is way older than 100 yrs, so imagine some dwarf trying to get on a dragon HIS size.

And would you really want it on your conscience(sp), aurora jean, that you sent a girl that's barely a year old to fight a Rider 3x her size and way more skilled than her in magic and swordsmanship? Don't say that Oromis could teach her, because he basically couldn't teach her anything helpful. Why?, you might ask. Because, a magician's (or Rider's) strength in spellcasting is limited by the strength of his body. Remember Eragon almost died when he used magic the first time to kill those Urgals. Now imagine what would happen if Elva fought something like that. She would be slaughtered.

Roran and here are the more likely candidates, but I still say it's going to be somebody unexpected. When CP does reveal who it is, we're all gonna say,"Why didn't I think of that?!". Then we're all going to promptly knock ourselves on the forehead in frustration at the fact that we overlooked that one person.
