Training Days
OOC: For Twin, FE, and me. One more person can join, but pm me first please. Jason centered himself, glaring at the flat-faced boulder in front of him. He took a deep breath, then launched forward into a round-house kick. His face twisted in concentration, his mind focused on the wind whipping past his foot. In his mind he was compressing and weaving the strands of air into a ball connected to his foot. A tight smile flashed across his face for one moment as he thought he had succeeded, but the ball of air pulsed unexpectedly and he lost his concentration. The force of the trapped wind blew him away from the rock before his foot connected. The boy flew backwards through the air for a few feet before he landed in the middle of the river a short distance behind his training space.
He surfaced, coughing and spluttering, his clothes and wings and everything else soaked. A sharp whistling and chuckling sounded from off to his right and he looked over at what was making the noise. A russet red dragonette was rolling around on it's side on it's rocky perch a quarter of the way up the cliff beside the waterfall. The creature's eyes were shut tight against it's mirth.
Hush you! I almost had it! Jason growled at his friend, slapping the water with his wing. He used his power over the air to carry the water droplets over to Leo, splashing him with the cold liquid. It was Jason's turn to laugh then, as Leo rolled right off of his perch to avoid the water, and smacked into the ground. Haha! That's what you get! he crowed, trudging through the water back to the shore.
The boy shivered in the cold mountain air, his wet black hair plastered to his head. He shucked off his wet shirt and pants and left them in the sun to dry before heading into his cave home for a towel and dry clothes. He dried off and vigorously ran the towel over his hair before slipping on his shirt. He had to dig in his satchel for a bit before he found dry underclothes and while he was looking, Leo fluttered in the door behind him.
Jason glanced up at the dragonette absentmindedly and pulled on his pants, thinking about how they had come to be here.
Only a few weeks ago they had been in the company of two dragons, a Rider, and a shapeshifter. Now that was an adventure he was unlikely to ever forget. Afterwards he and Leo had drifted around for a bit before they had found this secluded valley in the Beor Mountains. Currently they were living, and training, at the head of the valley beside the waterfall. It had taken Leo two days and most of his energy to carve out this cave with his Earth powers, but Jason had been unable to dissuade him from doing it.
He had to admit though, he was glad Leo had done it. The russet was getting very clever with his powers, and had molded the existing entrance of the cave into a narrow doorway. He had even managed a small window a few feet to the right of the door, and an existing crack in the roof was transformed into a small hole that acted as a chimney. All Jason had had to do was build a door, shutters for the window, and a cot to sleep on. It was a very cozy little home, and when they needed supplies, he could fly to the nearest dwarven village. (Which was a long ways off, granted.)
Leo, is it time for lunch yet, you think? Jason asked his friend, lifting a pot off of a stone shelf. (Built into the wall, and another testament to Leo's skill.)Lunch! Lunchity lunchers lunchies! the excitable dragonette chirruped, slamming into the pile of embers and tinder that was their fireplace. He stood there for a minute, watching Jason preparing the meal. He kneaded the ground between his forepaws, then burst into flame from head to tail. The tinder around him caught immediately, taking only a few seconds to reach a temperature hot enough to cook on.
Jason looked over, then yelped, throwing wood on the fire. It works better if there's wood and tinder you know, sounded in Leo's mind. The dragonette chuckled and dodged out of the way as the firewood toppled onto where he had been standing. He was about to make a hyperactive retort when he froze. Something was moving outside, he could hear it and feel it with his power. Someone's here? he said uncertainly, looking up at Jason. The winged boy looked down at Leo, his smile frozen on his face. Then in a split second he was beside the door, unsheathing his short sword. He peeked out the window, trying to see whoever it was. No one was in sight yet, and he drew back from the window a bit, concealing himself as best he could.OOC: Leo just sensed a charry.

Re: Training Days
Hawke whooped, the fresh air slapping his face repeatedly. Although it was an odd comparison, Hawke couldn't describe the ecstasy that flowed through him like a river just breaking out of a dam. He had flown once with Star Gazer, but the dragoness had been messing with Hawke and her Rider, Reb, nearly the entire flight, so it wasn't the most exciting experience Hawke had ever had. This, however, trumps anything else by a long shot. They flew on level with the earth, a sloping valley descending a a hundred or so feet. The entire picture was serene and the sound was peaceful; the steady roar of the waterfall wasn't being interrupted in the slightest.
Hawke barely began to realize that Elisa was descending until her talons grazed against the ground and she stopped. Hawke furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and glanced at his Bond. Elisa, what are you doing? the young Rider questioned.
Elisa didn't respond so Hawke undid the straps and jumped from the saddle into the air, hovering about twenty feet. Elisa began to crawl silently towards what looked like a home fashioned out of rock. Actually, that's exactly what it was. Hawke's eyes widened when a possibility of what his crazy dragon was doing popped into his mind. "Elisa. . .you can't! They could be enemies!" he whispered desperately.
She didn't turn to look at him but responded. Maybe so, but look at how grand this home is. I've slept in caves before, but this is amazing! Now she did turn her head to stare at Hawke, a pleading look evident on her face. Hawke? Let's make one too!
"I can only control wind, not the earth! Now get back here before they hear you!" Hawke snapped.
Would you listen if I called you by your special name? Elisa asked pleasantly, though there was a mischievous edge to her voice.
Hawke's eyes widened again. "Come on, I absolutely hate that name!" He stopped, then cocked his head to the side, listening closely. "I can hear someone moving. Now look what you did!" Hawke chastised. His hand gripped his greatsword as he descended to the earth and walked carefully to the makeshift doorway. He stopped about ten yards from the doorway so as to not startle the homeowners. "Hello? Is there anyone there?" Hawke asked.

Re: Training Days
Jason watched carefully for a few moments, and just when he had decided it must have been an animal and moved to sheath his sword, a dragon appeared between the trees. His mouth dropped open and he stared, sword tip dragging against the ground. Of all the things he had expected to see in the Beor Mountains, he didn't know why this surprised him so badly. His eyes narrowed as the dragonness (there was a distinctly feminine air to the way she moved) looked over her shoulder at something, and then a person, presumably her Rider, dropped out of the sky in front of Jason's home.
He froze again, his hand hovering over his bow and quiver. It wasn't the fact that the man was flying without the aid of his dragon that startled him. It was the fact that he was flying without the aid of anything, at least that Jason could see. He jumped in surprise when the man called out. The boy snatched up his bow and a few arrows, and kicked the door open. I'm Jason. Who are you? he asked suspiciously, edging out of the door. He kept the knocked arrow pointing at the ground, but he could only too easily have it aimed and flying towards the man's heart if he felt threatened.
Leo flew out of the door behind Jason, swooping down to perch on his back. He chittered excitedly, whistling and chirruping his delight at seeing another of his larger cousins. I'm Leo! Who are you? he chirped at the dragoness.

Re: Training Days
Hawke raised his hands up in a peaceful gesture when someone walked out of the makeshift home with a bow and several arrows at the ready. Hawke narrowed his eyes at the bow. If the man shot one, Hawke would snatch it out of the air. If he was unlucky, the arrow might pierce his hand in the process. He thought about using his Vision, but decided not to. "Peace, my dragon and I do not mean any harm if you don't. We were simply traveling through the Beors and she got curious when the saw this home," Hawke explained. "By the way, this is a nice home. How long did it take to make it?" Hawke asked casually, his hands still in the air where the man could see them. He examined the rocky fixture.
Elisa ignored the man with the bow and arrow and walked to the small dragon. She was pleased with the young one's happy and eager personality, not the suspicious, cautious, and overall boring tone of her Rider and this other man. My name's Elisa. It's a pleasure to meet you, Leo Elisa replied happily.

Re: Training Days
Notus was watching from a plateau not too far off from where the young man had been. He'd been focusing his attention on the boy, and was watching his technique. Attempting to focus any form of energy at a single point on the body was a difficult thing to do, but he seemed to be gaining the ability rather quickly.
When he managed to propel himself into the water of the river behind him, Notus couldn't help a dry chuckle from escaping his lips. He watched as the red flying being hovered at him, apparently amused and watched as they fluttered into a makeshift home carved into the rock as a cave. He cocked his head. He could sense several beings in the immediate air around them and watched as a dragon boldly flew down, its lithe and thin body hinting at it being a female, and then presumably her rider, floating down after her.
He seemed to be able to control the wind as well, but didn't look to be an elemental like Notus. After a moment a gentle breeze ruffled through Notus' white hair, making it look even more wind-swept and he glanced at the current, then took his hand and gently guided it towards the two sets of creatures. He stared at them, then decided that with his breeze message he would go down and meet them. He was still quite a ways off, but he was certain that the rider could at least see him if he'd simply look his way.
He let a small smirk form itself on his face and he took a step off the plateau, and began to fall. He allowed his arms to fall out and form something like a wingspan, already feeling the different currents. He crossed his legs, placing his left foot in front of his right and felt his boots kick in as he gently fed the air through his boots. It would be obvious to them if they saw that he appeared to be gliding down the cliffside, as if he was riding the rocks.
He grinned and flipped, letting his gauntlet skim the rock face and spun in the air excitedly. He pulled his legs back to the rock face, and continued his descent towards the group.

Re: Training Days
Jason watched the Rider for a moment, then hesitantly removed the arrow from the string. Even if he did manage to fire an arrow at the Rider, the dragon wouldn't be far behind in the attack and Jason didn't think his bow and arrows would be a good match-up to her scales. Two days. It took Leo two days to mold the rock with his power. The cave was already there, he just shaped it and altered a few bits to his liking, Jason replied, stepping back and setting his bow inside the door. He made no move to invite the man into the house.
He eyed the dragon as she approached to get a good look at Leo, but he was used to dragons being curious about their smaller cousin. He turned his shoulder slightly towards her so she could see him better, but his whole body was taut, ready to leap away at a moment's notice.
It was as Leo was climbing forward on his shoulder to see Elisa that Jason saw something shiny reflect the sunlight. His head shot up and his eyes narrowed, trying to focus in on whatever it was. It was too far away and moving too fast for him to be sure, but it looked like a man sliding down the cliffside. Is he with you? Jason asked suspiciously, pointing him out.
Leo studied Elisa's face for a moment, then without warning pounced at her head. He closed the distance with ease and landed on her snout, all four feet wrapped gently around her muzzle. Hello Elisa, he chirruped, looking into a big blue eye that was bigger than his head.

Re: Training Days
Now that Hawke wasn't paying as much attention to the bow, his eyes immediately shifted to wings on the man's back. He had seen a man with wings at that disaster of a ball, but this definitely wasn't him. Hawke also noticed that he spoke mentally. Was he afraid of being heard, or could he only communicate telepathically? Hawke narrowed his eyes when the man asked him if someone else was with them. He hadn't come with anyone else, but there might have been someone following him. He turned and squinted, the sunlight bearing hard on his enhanced eyesight. He made out a figure in the sky riding the wind as a surfer would ride the ocean. "No, I don't believe I recognize him," Hawke murmured, still keeping his eye on the man in the sky. Just in case, his hand shifted to the hilt of his weapon.
Elisa smirked as the young dragon jumped onto her snout, enclosing his limbs around it. She chuckled, Hello again, Leo. Turning her snout (with the little dragon still on it), she asked the man, "How old is your dragon?" Not that she was going to baby the dragon or anything; she was simply curious. She was also unperturbed by the man in the sky, figuring that he would make himself known in a moment.

Re: Training Days
Notus pushed off the rock wall and gracefully buffered his boots with extra air on the ground, then pushed forward with more air, zooming in closer. He could see the rider defensively putting his hand on his weapon, and thought that was logical. He was a stranger, and the times weren't particularly fond of newcomers.
He came up to the river, not far off from the cave and surveyed the ground, finding the least sandy area. One section seemed to be a thin sheet of slate that went to the edge of the river and downward, appearing stuck in the bank, forming a make-shift ramp. He smiled slightly and pushed forward, turning at the last second and pushing off with his left leg to flip his lower body over his head. He filtered air through his bracers and spread his arms, acting like he had wings and grinned.
He couldn't fight the excitement that came with "flying". It never got old for him, never even slightly lost its enertainment. He surveyed the ground on the other side, noting several rocks and a small path of dirt around the rocks. He landed, pulling his legs back over his head so he'd land on his feet and swerved around the rocks, not wanting to damage his boots, or himself.
When he was within twenty feet of the small group he slid to a gentle stop, letting the air go and letting his feet touch the ground, before resting fully. He surveyed them, then bowed, nodding his head, "Greetings. My name is Notus. I'm not here to harm any of you. I'm simply intrigued." He gave them a small smile and pushed a breeze toward them.

Re: Training Days
Jason looked down from the man sliding along the cliff to the Rider before him. He watched the man's face closely as he peered up at the newcomer. When he looked down at Jason's wings, the feathered limbs ruffled slightly and subconsciously shifted on the boy's back. Jason ignored the curious look and turned back to the surfer. He had reached the ground now and was jumping over the river to join them.
He cocked his head and watched the man's movements. It appeared as if he used the wind around him, pushed through his boots and controlled expertly, to flit through the air as if he had wings like Jason. Leo's not a dragon, he's a dragonette, and only a few months old, he said to Elisa, walking out of the doorway to the house to confront his newest visitor.
I am Jason, pleased to meet you. Forgive me if I don't immediately take your word for it that you are peaceful, these are dangerous times, he said, nodding his head slightly in greeting.
I'm no dragon! Leo chortled, rolling onto his back so his wings and feet were spread-eagled on Elisa's snout and his belly was soaking up the warm rays of the sun. He swatted playfully at a sudden breeze that played around their group, chortling and whistling cheerfully in the background.

Re: Training Days
Hawke grimaced slightly when the man touched down on the ground after displaying a fair amount of skill with wind. A small breeze blew against his windswept black hair, and Hawke narrowed his eyes. Notus hadn't done anything to show any hostility, but Hawke wondered what the man's reasoning was in sending a breeze. Was he trying to show off? Hawke sighed, rubbing his temples. Even after his months away from that experimenting center, he was still weary of others. "I'm Hawke," he said with a brief nod.
Elisa blinked at the name. A...dragonette? Forgive my ignorance, but I haven't quite heard of a dragonette before Elisa spoke.

Re: Training Days
Notus watched the others carefully, noticing their distrust. Realization dawned on him; they obviously wouldn't understand wind-speak. They weren't wind elementals, so a friendly breeze wouldn't show them that he meant no harm. "Forgive me, I am a wind Elemental. In my home we convey feelings on the wind, with breezes and such. I forget that others do not always understand." he looked away and his eyes caught the small dragon-like creature, immediately fascinated. The larger dragon was beautiful, and obviously female from her build. He turned to Jason, "I saw you training. You are highly skilled. The technique you are attempting to accomplish is very complex, yet your progress is incredibly fast. I am impressed." he gave the young winged man a small wry grin.

Re: Training Days
Jason's wings ruffled with pleasure and embarrasment as the...elemental? As the Elemental acknowledged his skill. Maybe so, but at the moment, it doesn't feel as if I'm that skilled. I've been working on that move since before we got here, he said, grinning slightly. He glanced at Hawke and hesitated for a moment, debating about whether or not it was wise to remain here with these strangers. His green eyes flicked to Leo, where the dragonette was lounging on Elisa's face, playfully swatting at small insects that passed by him. Leo might be too friendly for his own good, but he'd never be that friendly with someone who meant me harm, he thought, shifting from foot to foot.
Finally he sighed and stepped outside, gesturing towards the door with one arm. Would the two of you like to come in? he asked. In the back of his mind he was thinking that even if the two of them did attack him, he could always escape to the skies. The only one he'd have to worry about is the dragon, and with Leo's abilities, even she wouldn't pose much of a problem, at least once he got into the air.Leo rolled off of Elisa's nose and darted into the house. Lunch! he squealed excitedly.OOC: I don't think Jason could handle much more company at the moment, so I'm going to wait to bring in Darian.

Re: Training Days
Hawke thanked the man for his hospitality and slowly walked into the abode his dragonette had been working on. It was small but effective in that it had everything one would need. There was even a chimney and a window. Once inside, Hawke turned to glance back Jason. "You were practicing wind magic, right? And Notus, you said you were a wind Elemental? That's curious. We're all dabbling in wind magic," Hawke cocked his head to the side, surprised but in a good way. Maybe all that experimenting was good for something after all...
He glanced curiously from Leo, the dragonette; to Notus, a wind Elemental; then to Elisa, who had experienced bone growth to become larger because of Galbatorix's meddling (it had its benefits, he had to admit); and to Jason, a being with wings. Then there was himself: a human rider with hawk blood mixed with their own. All in all, it was quite an interesting group.
OOC: Sorry for not posting in a while. It's gradually growing more difficult to keep up with all of my RPGs.
