I was just wondering, because I am. I get laughed at for it a lot, I was wondering if anyone else knew how nasty (and scary) it is to have a seizure ><

I myself am not, and have never had a seizure, but I have a friend who does. And to top it off he's like 6'9'' so it makes it really hard for his mom to help him when he has one.

If someone laughed at you for having something you can't control they are jerks. That is so mean that they would find something funny about it.

That's awful. People epileptic here are immediately helped by everyone else, not laughed at. Never. And Australia has the most bullied children in the world too.

I'm not, but what's it like to have a seizure?

Hard to explain, especially since I haven't had one in ages (on medication to stop it.)

I'm not conscious through the actual seizure itself, (shaking around and stuff,) but i know I'm going to have one a few minutes before it happens, because I get an 'aura', which basically means a recurring symptom before I go into it, and it's unique to most people. In particular, I start feeling dizzy, then get some weird sorta multicolored shapes in the corner of my sight which pulse and flash and move around, and they start to fill my vision more and more until I can't see anything. While this is happening my heartbeat starts to race and I start shaking uncontrollably, then I black out and the next thing I know I'm laying on the floor surrounded by ambulance crew being told I've had a seizure...

Oh you poor dear... Epilepsy runs in my family, but I have yet to have a seizure that was not due to other conditions. My favorite aunt in the world has epilepsy... worries me to death... what causes your seizures? You know, cause certain things can trigger them.

Well I would never laugh at someone that has a seizure, that would be totally wrong. Any way has a lifeguard you get taught how to respond in many situation and that is one of them. It's been a while so I'll check in my books for the water procedures that have to be taken

Well they state to keep the head of the victim out of the water if it is happening in the swimming pool (kind of obvious)

1. Keep head out of water and bring victim out after the incident
2. If the victim is on solid ground remove all objects which are around which could be harmful to the person.\
3. Do not place anything between the teeths of the victim
4. Call the emergency services
5. When it is over make sure that the victim is not hurt, check the breathing and pulse rate and then treat the state of choc (I am not that sure on how that last part translates. This is one of the only course which I took in french so I know the french terminology, but not the english one)

6. Try to keep them laying on their sides.

I do know people epileptic, just never asked them about it cause they seem uneasy.

hmm.

i read about a lady once who is now epileptic...
i'll tell you what happened...

idk, she had gone a vacation with ehr famil anf they were in some forest i think, yeah and there were big trees and stuff..

so a thunderstrom broke out and she was in the forest with her dog.

to take cover from the lighting and the rain, she decided to rest under a tree,. Bad idea.

Her dog somehow sensed that something ad was gfonna happen to he ran away from there but she stayed back and just after a few seconds, she got struck by lighting... oh boy...

she had 3rd degeee burn but she lived.

but sincce then shes become epileptic...
now she has sme weird pacemaker sorta thing that sends a small current through her body and keeps her from passing out during a seizure...

i read this somewhere...
