I think that the "vault of souls" is hidden in Helgrind. Galby has to know where it is and that would make a perfect hiding place for it. Everytime a person is Alagaesia dies i think that their souls go to the vault of souls and Galby somehow is using them to make himself and Murtagh more powerful. That would explain the reason why Galby is getting more powerful every year...wht do u think?

I think that jawpaw14 may be right. It makes sense that galb would be getting more powerful every year because if he somehow found a way to harness the power of the vault and peoples souls go there when they die he would get more powerful.

You guys may indeed be onto something with there "galby gaining power from dead people" but i do not think it is from the vault of souls...Mainly because Eragon is ment to speak his name into the vault, why would saying his name into a bunch of glowy souls give him the power over them? I think that the vault of souls is more like something where the true nature of a person is kept, and when you discover your true name and speak it to this vault, you harness all the power that your name can bring thus making you more powerful. Since this book is very good vs. evil, i doubt that Eragon would use a similiar method to how glaby came to power since it would ultimately be an evil one as Brom or Oromis suggested. (I think that the Razac or the shade taught Galby how to harness the souls or something like that form those who die). Just my opinion, but I think my way does fit the plot line, and CP's writing neche a bit better.

Keogan, your opinion does seem to fit the plot. The power doen't have to be evil. Eragon could just gain command over the souls.

thanks for your support dragon rider =) anyone have any ideas on how galby is gaining power though? thats the one thing i can not figure out...i'm guessing one of his evil minions taught him...or maybe someone behind the scenes is manipulating galby? doubtful, but possible i guess.

i think that he learned the word for the anciant language because the book says it is a word of great power and it was lost when the elvs came over seas so i think that is how he dose it

i think the Vault of Souls is in Doru Areaba, on the island of Vroengarg. it seems like the logical place to me, well it does if the Vault of Souls has to do with what i think it does. i think it has something to do the dragon's Heart of Hearts(HH), maybe when a dragon dies and its HH rots with the body maybe the dragon soul goes to the Vault along with the dragon souls who've had their HH broken.

Or another theory is that rider's soul is also included in what i said above

no that is the old broken tower thing that Eragon stops at when he is coming back to Surda after he sent Sloan to the Elves. remember he meets that one crazish guy there who's spent his whole life looking for answers to questions. then Eragon mentions it to Angela and she said that she was like his apprentice or something, (i'm not sure exactly, i don't have Brisingr with me at this moment.)

Galby was only hiding the entrance to a cave not a whole mountain.

Yes, I am sure that in Brisingr Galby only hides the entrance to the Ra'zac's cave. In Eldest we here that he Murtagh made an illusion of an army but it is also possible considering the twins were not thought to be traitors at that point that the empire just knew who the varden spies where and planted information in there minds.

I think that you will soon forget/get tired of making posts in colour. I only check the book if someone questions the facts if everyone agrees then there is no need.

Personally i believe that the rock of kuthian is named after one of the forsworns dragons, because when eragon mentioned it to ormomis and arya they said it was familiar but they couldn't recall it and as for the VoS i reckon that it is on the island where seithr oil comes from and as for vroenguard isn't that the place the riders ruled from? so it wouldn't make sense for them to be there as it says that it was an evil place that no rider dared go.

I think the Beor Mountains might contain the vault of souls. Also, Galby can't know the name because that is probably the "name" that he is searching for. Also, he is probably gaining power because he spends all his time gaining power over the Eldunari.

he might have tapped into the vault of souls and when Eragon speaks his true name his name is the word that commands the souls. Also i think the "question" tegan was looking for was that exact question, where is the vault of souls. or what Eragons true name is because Tegan said "do you know the question?" Eragon replied "no" and Tegan said "oh i thought you knew" so maybe he was looking for Eragon's True name to open the vault. I don't know.



The VoS maybe is in Hadrac Desert or Maybe even (i know it's stupid) Carvahall, wouldn't it be a good twist to go back to Carvahall all destroyed and find to VoS being a huge Rock that the villagers thought was nothing.

That's what I was thinking too... like that rock formation in the center? Didn't they say somewhere in the books that had something to do with dragons?

I think Sblobby saying that Kuthian is named after a forsworn is pretty good. The thing is then Eragon wouldn't be able to say it either.

But what if Kuthian rock IS at a place named after a forsworn. Thats why Arya and Orimis had heard of the Kuthian but forgotten where it is because they dont remember the name of the place it is at. Tah DAH.

why,though? might it just be that it was believed cursed or something, but nothing is reallly wrong with it? or is it that there is something wrong with it... maybe some horrible creature lives there and people dont go there for fear of being killed or eaten???

I think chances are the vault of souls is hidden in the spine because in book one someone (I don't remember who) said that galby loses a large chunk of his army in there. They wouldn't have fallen off a cliff or something because they would probably be seasoned pro's. What else could there be. Maybe he finds a myth about it in dwarf scrolls (rock) and stumbles upon it around where he found saphira egg. I think thats a place where you can contact the dead and they give him knoledge about how to defete galby

i think it is in VG bcuz it says only dangerous creatures live there now, so who would go there? perfect hiding spot!!!
