OKAY!!!! I remember always saying Ayra had feelings for Eragon, since I joined this forum. I also remember saying that she has not acknowledged, not even to herself, these feeling. I also mentioned she was focused on her job and ultimate goal; defending the race of the Dragons and vanquishing Galbatorix.
I also remember Scott, you constantly opposing my views insisting that Ayra only had feelings of those of a FRIEND towards Eragon.

Back on topic!!! When reading series whch are unfinished, the same book can be perceived by thousand of readers in different ways. We also need to remember these perceptions can also be linked with life experiences. I continue under the belief that Ayra's sense of honor and duty is way above other "trifles" of life!!!.

I'm just saying, i act NOTHING like i am in real life. if i did, i would hardly ever say ANYTHING. I'm rather quiet.

Dude, Murtagh sucks. And evil. Sure it's forced, but he was forced to say he would try to capture Eragon. He wasn't forced to say he would return if failed. He had a choice when Eragon was stuck. He let Eragon live, but that was out of pitty. He would kill Nasuada if he had the chance.

Dude, no he doesn't. He let Eragon live because he likes him and they have a brotherly bond. No he would love Nasuada if he got to know her and if given the chance.

Dude, he considered staying for a little bit. He went back to Galbatorix after that battle because he chose to. He could have stayed if he wanted. And he would hesitate killing Nasuada. But he would if he had the chance. But Nasuada will live. She'll probably be the one to kill Murtagh in the end.

He didn't stay because he had made vows in the AL to return to Galby and to be his right hand man.

We have points in which we agree. We must also realize that making choices is one of the underlying themes within the series.

Murtagh had a choice, (I've said this before with quotes and everything; somewhere around this site and others.) not a pretty or happy one, but a choice.
I can understand how CP has doned very human traits in Murtagh's character. His life has heen plagued with pain, sadness and Misery, (like the sword he now holds) but an individual always has a choice. He had it. He could have chosen to die for his belief and for the good of the many or submit for the demise of the many. He chose the latter. The clue here being, HE CHOSE!!!

On the other hand, Nasuada represents EVERYTHING he is set out to destroy. Nasuada is portrayed to us as a highly honorable, committed young woman and warrior. At this point, I, personally, do not see how she can "like/love" Murtagh. He made his choice and as far as the end of Book II Nasuada knows this and shows compassion and regret for his plight and choice. I did not see any "love" though. Who knows, maybe I need to change my glasses???

Here we have a similar situation with Ayra. Ayra is totally committed to saving the Dragons and vanquishing Galbatorix. She also has a high sense of honor, duty and of right and wrong.
She may have seen Eragon's affection grow and the more I listen to the story, the more I am convinced that she has be trying to see and treat him as a friend. All for the honorable reasons I've mentioned before. She went as far as telling Eragon the story of Linnea under the Menoa tree. So she is aware of Eragon's infatuation, and is trying to do the right thing. Therefore, as I see it, Ayra has CHOSEN to do the right thing. Divert Eragon's feelings and keep hers in check, "as a friend." I do see her sending him mixed messages on some instances throughout the story though. Which leads me to believe, there is more than just friendship there, but she has not acknowledged it to herself!!! Much as I dislike the thought, I think they will end up together, even with the gap in age and life experiences! YUCK!!!!

i think she's keeping her feelings TOO in check. it became pretty obvious at the end when she did nothing when he was found alive. as a friend, she would have done more, but because she was keeping her feelings TOO in check, she did practically nothing.

I was only stating a small PIECE of my theory! This is a mere TIE-IN to the bigger picture! From what is explained elsewhere, it ties-into the theory and the story-line, explaining what occurs and further strengthening it! Your wrong shadowagent, she didn't get up because she's hiding her feelings. She loves Eragon but she won't show it. She doesn't want him to know that she really loves him by like not caring I suppose. She didn't get up because she was hiding her feelings, if she had gotten up Eragon would of known that Arya had some feelings for Eragon and he would start bugging about it more and more than what it already was.

She didn't get up, because they're not even friends anymore. Eragon pushed it too far at the Blood-Oat ceramony. She forgave him, but she never said she'd be his friend again. That would probably disprove my only evidence for the she's evil thing, but I believe she doesn't love him more than I believe she's evil. So...she doesn't love him. Nasuada does tho

I don't get why you think she is evil? Nasuada is somewhat likely but I really would be cool if Eragon and Arya got to together.

the use of the phrase "betraying nothing" denotes that she was hiding feelings for Eragon. It also denotes that she is good at hiding feelings.

Thnx scarecrow, and yeah my opinion is a good 1 if arya is only cold shouldering eregon because of trainig than she will tell him in the 3rd book, but she may really not like him. Wat about the elf maiden he danced wit at the blood-oath thing, she even sang when he left the elven land.

She could, but then nothing would explain her odd change in how she acts at the end of Eldest. I think she may have found out the true depth of her feelings of Eragon when she thought he was dead.

Me too, I think she really felt something when she heard he was dead and then he returned, I think that made her happy and lift her spirits a little, and at least hopefully showed her that she has some feelings for Eragon.

*sigh* at the end of eldest (b4 and after the final battle of the book), there is a change in Arya. A very likely reason of this change would be her realizing her love for Eragon. Then at the very end when Eragon comes back, Arya shows no emotion at all. This shows that she is hiding her feelings, a bit too well.

Ah, but that doesn't explain how she acted before and after the Battle of the Burning Plains. Before, she hesitated when she left him. That means at the least that she feels bad for pushing him away and breaking his heart. and she "revealed nothing" when she looked at him when he apologized to her. That denotes she is hiding some feelings from him. What feelings would she hide other than love? why would she need to hide anything else? most likely, she wouldn't. After the battle, she doesn't even get up when he comes out of nowhere after she thought he was dead. She had to have been hiding something there and most likely she realized the full depths of her feelings for him when she thought that he was dead.

love doesn't always have to start out with infatuation. for elves, if it did, they'd fall in love with practically every elf they come across. they reflect what their image of beauty is, and cuz it's often relatively the same as what the other's image of beauty is, they all think each other are beautiful. thusly, for elves, it's what's inside that counts, and how you show it.

You all wanna know what feelings she was hiding? Friendship. She was hiding the desire to still be his friend. Not become his girlfriend or anything like that. She was upset with Eragon, and maybe a little mad at him, because he thru away their friendship to try and be with her. Before she left Ellesmera, she said that the two could not be friends anymore.

and then she changed her mind. she IS his friend. she can easily show that. she CAN'T show love.

She ENDED their friendship. She was deciding wether or not to forgive him. She didn't want to make him think more then what there is again. So she decided not to take back their friendship. They're just aquaintences now.
