Post RPGC: Resurface of instinct
OOC: I was sitting looking through the forums, not much to do and I suddenly thought of a great idea for a thread. I ask all dragons to join, especially since this has to do with them. There will be a large twist in the story down the track and one of my characters will be changed forever. I'll leave it at that.

Aeraldi lay on the ground next to his children, in the valley that Phalynx had found and protected. He held his eyes shut, though sleep didn't come over him. As much as he didn't like being kept awake, he felt content just lying there with all of his children, Al'nair the oldest, Sirius the middle child, and the twins Polaris and Saiph. He listen to all their breathing, all soft and care-free. He had slept for the first part of the night, though after waking somewhere in the middle of the night he awoke to the silence.
Aeraldi sighed and shifted himself away from his children, moving off into the night.
The valley was lit with the light of the moon, giving enough light that any dragon would be able to fly in it. He spread his wings and jumped into the air, flying into the sky. He always enjoyed flying, more so now since he found Phalynx and learned that she liked flying too, but it was always a good way to let the worries of the world flow past him. A memory swept past his mind, forcing him to relive the events of old.

Aeraldi flew through a familiar valley, although it was empty he could feel that dragons should be here. There was a large waterfall at one end and a few caves that were caved in on the sides of the valley. There were trees that covered the hillside, all twisted into shapes that would have resembled scars. He landed on the hillside and put his paw on one of the trees, his claws running down it gently. It was far too familiar, where did he know this from? He shook his head of the unbidden memories and continued.

Aeraldi shook his head, he knew that valley now and why it was familiar. But usually my memories come when they have relevance, what's different about this time? He thought as he flew. He sighed again as he knew he wouldn't be going back to sleep tonight. He still decided he should go back to the valley of his birth and find out why he had the memory.

After an uneventful night of flying, Aeraldi came across the valley with the waterfall. A figure stood on the rock that had dried him off many years ago, a man with a robe. Aeraldi became curious, how did a human get to where only a dragon could?
Hello? He asked the figure gently.
"Hello Aeraldi, how have you been?" The voice was cool, though not one he recognized.
Fine..? Who are you? Aeraldi asked as he stepped closer to the man, who didn't seem to flinch at the fact that he was a dragon.
"Someone who is concerned about you, as you have changed for the worse I'm afraid."
Aeraldi was curious beyond reason now, not only did he know his name but he knew about him. He angled around to get a look at the man's face.
Who are you?
"I have gone by many names, but the one I like the best is the one I won't tell you my good dragon." He turned and touched Aeraldi on the snout, a flash of magic sending waves of energy across the mountains and through the land. The pain, the pure pain that washed through Aeraldi set his entire body aflame and gave a memory that he had hoped to forget.

GET OUT! Aeraldi screamed into his mind at the presence that sought to take his body away from him. The change was painful, so painful he tried his hardest to make sure it didn't come again. He roared in agony and fell to the floor, tear rolling unbidden down his face. Just go...

Aeraldi would have realized what was happening to him had be not been in so much pain, he was changing. He could feel rage welling up inside of him, a fury that was beyond him but not beyond another dragon he knew. He fell to the ground, his body changing. His scales ran Crimson, and all he could feel was the rage that drove him, the instinctual memories that told him to fight, to kill, to taste dragon blood. He roared loudly, feeling the pleasure that ran over him.

In Du Weldenvarden, Aelir slept soundly. His own son sleeping beside him. It was peaceful, quiet, and his rider was sharing his experience in fatherhood. The sun shone gently onto his face waking him from his slumber. Another morning in a world where nothing could harm him, at least not here. He felt a small tingle in the back of his head then, something that wasn't there before. It felt strange, something had felt... Indescribable.
That was when the pain hit him.
Aelir screamed in pain, every fiber in his body set aflame. His mind filled with urges, urges that he knew were of his own being but he had learned to control. He tore the ground beneath him, the pain consuming him.
Keralin gripped the bed he lay on, sharing the pain that Aelir felt. He screamed with his dragon, it felt as if a thousand years of agony suddenly rushed through him. And then the pain stopped.
Everything looked different, everything confusing. Aelir knew what he had to do, he was bidden. I'll make sure nobody harms my family, not the two-legs and not any dragon! His instincts forced him into the air, he would make sure that this forest wouldn't hide anything from him.

Post Re: RPGC: Resurface of instinct
OOC: Uh oh... lol this looks awesome, Aeraldi. So how old are the kids in this one?

IC: Phalynx slept peacefully, her sleep silent, and her dreams the most pleasant she could imagine. She slept in different places every night, including in her valley. Sometimes she slept in the ancient city of Unity, sometimes on the huge ledge over the underground-sourced waterfall, sometimes in the valley itself. At the moment, she was on a grassy ledge over the main valley, on the side. Blue-shaded trees hung over her, and her family slumbered quietly beside her.

Phal suddenly felt a strong, powerful flash of pain that sent her awake with a cry. For three seconds, she writhed on the ground, trying not to screech at the torture. Finally, it ebbed away to a dull ache, but she felt an extremely strong tug on her body, urging her south. NOW. She had to go now. Phal stood up, panting breathlessly, and her eyes darted back and forth frantically. Sirius was twitching violently in his sleep, and Phal knew why. She had long suspected, and had recently come to know, that he could feel the same pull on his body that she could, that told them where they were needed. The others were blinking open their eyes, all in expressions of worry. And Aeraldi was gone.

Phal flapped her wings to lift herself away from the ground, knowing he wasn't just on a simple night flight. He was not in the valley. Phal felt the pull, and knew he had to be where it was directing her. She glanced down, and saw that Sirius had come awake. What's wrong? Where's Dad? We've gotta find him! I know where he is, we have to find him! Sirius exclaimed, his voice uncharacteristically emotional. Alna'ir was staring at her brother in shock, but swiftly nodded her agreement.

Phal let out a shaky sigh. She was reluctant to leave her children alone when she wasn't sure what would happen, but she couldn't bring them with her. She drifted reluctantly back to the ground, wanting nothing more than to race southwards. I'm sorry, but you can't go. I'm not sure what's happening, but I can't allow you to put yourselves at risk. Stay in the valley, and wait for me or your father to return, she said, her eyes burning with green fire that warned the four young dragons not to argue. Na'ir, however, was not one to listen to reason. But we can help! What if you both need our help, and we're not there? What if you get in trouble? she argued, her own green eyes sparking.

Phal shook her head, and the golden stripe in her right eye glowed fiercely. No. I understand your arguments, Na'ir, but you are not coming. I'm not willing to put you at risk, she said sternly, and was surprised to hear such a tone come from her. Na'ir looked down in a resigned manner, finally realizing that arguing was pointless. It was then that Phal noticed Sirius seeming to struggle ferociously to keep himself still. I... I don't think I can make myself stay here... I need to go! he said, shaking his head and kneeding the ground with his claws. Go into Unity, Sirius. Explore, or do some research or experimentation. I know it will be very hard to resist leaving, but you have to. Try to take your mind off of it; it's the best thing you can do, Phal said, her voice calming and encouraging. Sirius nodded hesitantly.

Phal raised her wings and backed away, preparing to depart. Please stay here. Please. I love you all, she said softly, her eyes still burning, but with love and affection. All four of them nodded silently, whispering their own farewells and I-love-yous. Phal beat her wings in one powerful downstroke and rose above her valley, the urge to head south driving her above all else. She surged forward, not willing to stop for anything.

Post Re: RPGC: Resurface of instinct
OOC: This takes place after the Shadow Wars, so they are old enough.

This valley was his, he lived in it centuries ago and he would live in it now. This valley was his. No-one else's, unless he permitted it. He felt the ages upon him, the changes he was forced to endure so he would survive. Now he was powerful enough to make sure he could live the way he learned. The way dragons were meant to. Free, and beyond any control.
Speaking of freedom. He thought as he saw the animal inhabitants of the valley now fleeing the area around him. I am hungry. He jumped off the cliff and dived for the fleeing animals with a dangerous gleam within his eyes.

Aelir flew in the air above Du Weldenvarden, the forest beneath him looking more dangerous with every second. Keralin, viewing through Aelir's eyes, began to agree with him.
This place must burn. They thought together. They will not harm us or our children.
Keralin shook his head and gripped it tightly, forcing the thought out of his head. No, they won't harm us. I am part of them, and they a part of me. They are part of the clan!
Not my clan! They aren't like me! They aren't Dragons!
Yes we are! They won't harm us! We are the same clan! Wait... Clan? They are our people!
No! This place must burn!
Aelir! Wait! What's happening to us?! This isn't like us! What's going on!?

Aelir's mind was having trouble accepting the fact that Keralin was part of him and that because Keralin was an elf that he was part of their clan. Or people. I... I can't control myself! I feel as if these urges are taking control of me. I can't... I can't... Keralin, help me! Aelir pleaded with his rider.

Polaris screamed in agony, she had never felt so much pain in her life. Not to mention the fact that she was feeling the pain that coursed through Saiph as well. When the pain stopped though, all she could do was cry.
Saiph as well. Such pain was beyond a dragon of their age, none knew how to deal with it. When Phalynx told them to stay, he couldn't think of any reason to go. The pain could come back, why was it there in the first place. Why did it hurt so badly?
And why do I feel the urge to go south with mother?

When Aeraldi finished his meal he remembered the one who caused him pain. Rage welled within him and he felt the need to kill the one responsible. He flew high into the air, looking for the robed figure. Nothing stood in his valley anymore, not a single animal and certainly no two-legs. Aeraldi felt relieved and angry at the same time, nothing was in his valley but he couldn't pay back the one that caused him pain. Aeraldi hated the man, and if he ever saw him again he would make him pay.
What if he has gone to hurt my family? He thought suddenly. He won't not with Phalynx there. But he won't escape this forest. Aeraldi then jumped and set to burning the entire forest around him, if anything tried to escape then he would see it.
Then as the valley was aflame, Aeraldi looked at the fires and the smoke that bellowed from them. He felt alive, he felt the power that would allow him to protect his family and his way. Nothing would stop him.

Post Re: RPGC: Resurface of instinct
Sirius could not feel the pain as strongly as his siblings, but he felt something equally uncomfortable. He had the urge to go south so strongly, that he thought he might die if he stayed, his body tearing itself apart if he tried to remain still. What's wrong with us?! he cried, What's wrong with me?! He didn't know what was happening, but he couldn't think clearly.

Na'ir was gritting her teeth through the awful feeling, her wings tense and stiffened. I don't know what's wrong with us, but we have to fight the urge. We have to stay here. Maybe if we fight it, we will eventually win, she said, more to herself than the others. She needed to convince her own mind of that. She shifted from foot to foot, trying to ignore the ache.

If we stay out here much longer we'll eventually succumb. Maybe... Maybe there's a way to keep ourselves from flying? Sirius said, pacing in a frantic circle.

Maybe there's a way to trap ourselves- trap ourselves inside of Unity. There are lots of tunnels, Na'ir replied, trying to think of a way to seal themselves in without risking their lives.

Phal felt a dull, constant ache in her muscles and chest, and a dizzy feeling kept creeping into her mind. She had to constantly shake her head to keep her brain clear. Something was going terribly wrong. She had to find Aeraldi, and she had to find out what was happening. Her children were old enough to do what they wanted without her orders, but she hoped that they would listen to her this time. Something dangerous was happening, and she didn't want them in the middle of it.

Phal's flight staggered as her wings kept tensing up in cramps. She growled and shook it off, having to fight off another bout of dizziness. They were getting worse, and she was starting to feel nauseous with each spell. I have to keep going. I have to go, she thought. The gold stripe in her eye was glowing constantly now, and she could not spare the effort to stop its radiance. Any onlooker would see a small gold speck of light in the sky when they looked up.

Phal kept flying, relying completely on her instincts as she tried to fight off the waves of nausea. Despite the setbacks, she had gotten within sight of the Beors. Aeraldi's close. Very close. Only a few more hours, she thought, her hope and determination renewing.

Post Re: RPGC: Resurface of instinct
A familiar presence, someone he knew was coming closer. He could feel it. Aeraldi didn't know who it was, at least at first. The memory hit him harder than ever, though it did less than just remembering a name.
Phalynx. He pondered, the memories hitting him again and again. My mate, yes. Yes. Phalynx, a welcome part of the clan. I invited her in and she accepted. She deserves to be here, and I can keep her safe. There was someone else as well, who was it?
Aeraldi's thoughts were jumbled in a great mess, he knew he had to think straight but he couldn't bring himself to overcome the feeling that everything wasn't under his control. Things could happen to him or his clan. Where was his clan for that matter? Where are the rest? There should be more, I remember there being more before. Before when? When was now? Aeraldi gritted his teeth in frustration and ran his claws down the nearest tree. A good way to keep the claws sharp. The presence was closer now, he could almost sense her thoughts.
Phalynx, my mate. A welcome part of the clan... His thoughts began again.

"Think Aelir, remember why we are here. We are here because it is safe. We wouldn't bring our child to a dangerous area." Keralin reasoned with Aelir, closing off part of his mind to him. If he was to stay sane, he had to be free of the influence that afflicted Aelir. He hated himself for it.
It is safe here... Taliear, yes. It was safe here for him, and for Hayren. Hayren isn't my child though... He is my son though... He is a part of Taliear. Aelir growled in frustration, since he could sense his Rider's thoughts. He knew something was influencing him, but he had no idea what. My thoughts are jumbled Keralin, I can't keep a single thought in my head for more than a few seconds. Seconds? Time? What was there time for? Would his son run out of time? The forest. It had to burn, it wasn't safe, not for Taliear.
"Aelir!" Keralin shouted, trying to get through to his dragon. "Aelir, listen to my voice. You know me, you know these people won't harm you."
Kill him, he isn't the boss of you. Why am I listening to me? Who is me? He isn't me, why is he a part of me? Aelir's thought ran rampart, Keralin trying to calm him down.

I don't wanna go into the dark, don't make go into the dark! Polaris pleaded with her bigger sister.
I hate the dark, I can't fly down there! I can't see down there, I hate it! Saiph pitched in as well. Just let us stay here, we won't go. I don't wanna go. Please don't go! Saiph's voice sounded very child-like at that point, a child who was afraid and didn't know what it meant.
Stay with us Na'ir. Saiph crawled closer to her bigger sister, pressing in close. Don't go.

OOC:Looks interesting.

Bahamut writhed in pain and he roared out. Suddenly he was having visions of his past.
Fire...blood...flesh.
Suddenly blood began to seep from Bahamut's maw. In his horror it was not his own. Begining to gag, he vomited up what looked like dragon flesh.
His mind was throbbing, he placed his claws on his head.

Monster..No...You dont belong in this world..No!
Murderer!
NO!! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!
Bahamut stumbled around in his cave, crashing against rocks.

Do you think you can go on living..
Do you think that you can be forgiven..
You were damned since the day you were born. Cursed to be feared and alone. Not even your parents accepted you...how could they? You are an abomination to your own kin. You will only know death.

Bahamut unleashed a pillar of flame out his cave, opening another hole in the ceiling. He flew out of it with tremendous speed. Something was drawing him south. His vision was blurry...Bahamut was crying tears of blood.

Post Re: RPGC: Resurface of instinct
Na'ir struggled to control her thoughts, shaking her head angrily. Her alarm intensified when her two youngest siblings began pleading with her. No, no, I'm staying. I'm staying right with all of you, she responded, her thoughts changing. I have to keep my brothers and sister safe, I have to. That's my job, keeping danger away. We'll stay here, protect here, she thought, her worry over her parents fading and her desire to keep her home and family safe coming to the forefront.

Sirius growled, his wings tense. Yes. Protect. I'll protect you all, and we won't have to leave, he said, and surprised himself at how inelegant his words sounded. No, this isn't me. What's wrong? What's happening? Sirius thought anxiously. His instincts were telling him something was very, very wrong, but he couldn't figure out what.

Phalynx shook her head again, the quick, sudden waves of dizziness not getting any more severe, but not letting up, either. The looming mountains seemed to call her by her natural instincts, and she felt a different pull to them as well; a pull that told her she needed to be there. She was having trouble thinking properly, and had to summon all of her focus to keep her mind from wandering. The dizzy spells certainly weren't helping in that effort. Aeraldi! Phal cried out with her mind, having more trouble than usual in finding him. Her connection to him seemed distant, and hard to reach.

The silver dragoness entered the huge mounds of stone and earth, still confused and in pain. It felt as if there was a battle raging inside of her, one that would not let up until the body it occupied was used up. She gave a small moan of pain as the dizziness returned, and held her wings taut to keep her self airborne.

Luckily, it wasn't long before she reached the valley. It was the valley Aeraldi had shown her not long after they had become mates, telling her it was where he had grown up all those millenia ago. Within the valley was an unfamiliar dragon.

He was unfamiliar at first, but when Phal's head cleared and her vision refocused, she recognized her mate. But his scales were darkened to a reddish tone, and he had a wild look in his eyes that didn't seem right. Phal could not connect her mind properly with his. Aeraldi? Aeraldi, what's happening? What happened to you? she called, her voice worried and slightly pained. She let her wings sag and sank wearily onto a craggy ledge near the edge of the valley.

Post Re: RPGC: Resurface of instinct
Phalynx, yes. My mate, the one I am to protect. I have to protect the Valley, and my mate and my children. My children? My Children! The thought through Aeraldi's mind sent waves upon waves of memories through him, coming in such a rush that they confused him into a lucid state. He saw Phalynx sink wearily to the cliff edge. He rushed off to support her, her question ringing in his mind. Happened to me? He looked down at his scales and almost swallowed his tongue in fright.
Phalynx! I... This is... He thought upon it for a second, then suddenly knew what was happening. Why he felt like this. Instinct... The block in our minds that came from our link to the Elves and Humans, it's gone. We are still linked to them, but the control that came with it... Gone! I... He looked about the valley, seeing the destruction he wrought within it. It brought back memories of his childhood, though not nearly as violent as before. I have power now, I can defend you. I can defend our children. I can feel the strength that runs through me, the strength that I should have. The price I fear was too great though.
Once again, an unbidden memory rose, though it wasn't from that long ago. It was of the man who had touched him, who had broken the bond and influenced him.
Phalynx, I must find him... Aeraldi said softly, giving his memory to Phalynx. Just the touch, not the pain that came after it. He did this to us, and I don't know how much longer I can keep up this control. He looked to his mate, at her difficulty with the control as well.
Actually, I know a better way. He touched Phalynx on the snout with his own, opening his mind to hers. I give you the control I hold now. Maybe you can help us before the baser instincts of our species consume us. I will follow you, my mate, to the ends of the lands and the skies. Maybe you can hold it together long enough to find this being. Aeraldi let the control he had gained from the memories pass to Phalynx and allowed himself to be consumed. He would follow Phalynx, but he wouldn't know it.

Saiph huddled close to Alna'ir, feeling the warmth of her scales gave him comfort and helped calm him down. Polaris kept close to Saiph, being close to him help calm her down. She couldn't explain it, but she felt she could feel the warmth of Na'ir as well. It was comforting, though it didn't stop her from feeling afraid.
Why did mother go off like that? Doesn't she want to be with us?

And where's father? He abandoned us! He left mother here all alone, left us here all alone! Don't go Na'ir! Stay with us Sirius! I'll be good, just don't leave!
I'll be good too, I swear! Don't leave us like mother and father did!

Keralin still pleaded with Aelir, trying to make him see reason. "Aelir, I'm your rider remember? I as much a part of you as you are a part of me. You chose me remember? Remember the happiness I felt at knowing that I wasn't going to be alone?"
Aelir did remember, and it did help to calm his nerves down. The shock of the pain and the change was lessening now, allowing other thoughts to pass through his mind. Yes. I hunger now. He walked off into the forest, away from the rest of the elves. Keralin was relieved and worried at the same time. Now he had to keep Aelir from harming anything that didn't deserve it. Keralin ran off after Aelir, keeping a small distance between them. He wanted to be closer, but he wasn't sure what that would mean for him.

Post Re: RPGC: Resurface of instinct
Bahamut was forcing himself to fly faster than he ever had before. He didnt know what was drving him, but he didnt care. It didnt take him long to reach an odd valley. It seemed familiar to him, but he couldnt remember why.
Bahamut's mind began throbbing again. Flashblacks appeared before his eyes. The pain began again, he roared in agony as he crashed into an area not far from where Aeraldi and Phalynx where.

Bahamut slashed the dragon's throat and blood sprayed across his face. He released the limp dragon from his grip and let him fall. He surveyed the vally he was in. It was in total ruin...he destroyed the remnants of an old clan. Corpses were burning, as Bahamut burned the last one he had slain. The ashes had turned the soil black and stained. Once he finished he expanded his wings and took to the skies. He hovered over the area and released a death-chilling roar for his victory of blood.

Post Re: RPGC: Resurface of instinct
Na'ir pressed herself close to her siblings, wrapping her wings around them comfortingly. It's alright, it's okay. I'm staying here, and so is Sirius, and so are you too. Our parents will be back, she said, wanting only to make her family feel better. She had to stay, had to protect her home and siblings. And she had to wait for their parents. Their family would be complete; they would be able to live in peace.

Sirius moved away from his older sister, growling. He wanted to fly up now, scout the area. Don't worry. I'm staying right here. We have to protect our valley. Maybe we should find mother and father, he said, worried. Why had they left? Didn't they want to keep their home safe? Sirius would keep it safe, though, in their absence.

Phalynx pressed herself against Aeraldi, still feeling the war within her. She could feel her more base instincts, whatever was controlling the other dragons, trying to gain control. But she was amazed; something was fighting it, and it wasn't just her own mind. The other side of the conflict felt familiar. It felt like... she knew! It reminded her of the pull she felt when she knew she was needed somewhere. But why would that type of thing be fighting her primality?

Phal stared into Aeraldi's eyes, almost giving a huge sigh of relief when she saw his control, his reason, return for an instant. But she could see the war raging behind his own bicolored eyes; he was fighting to stay in control. Our link... but how?

Phal hissed when Aeraldi spoke of a two-leg, the cause of all this. We will find him. We'll stop him, she replied, her voice full of optimism but her heart doubting. She breathed in suddenly when Aeraldi continued, and her eyes teared up. Aeraldi, no, we can fight it together. We can keep our clarity together, please! she cried, shaking her head, I need you, your ideas, your help, not just your presence. A few tears threatened to spill over, and she closed her eyes in resignation. He would do it anyway.

Aeraldi. Don't worry. I'll find out where he is. I'll find out what he's done. I'll stop him, and I'll bring you back; I'll bring us all back, she sobbed, failing to hold back her tears, now. Aeraldi prepared to send her what control he had left, but she moved towards him, feeling his warmth against her. Wait, please, a little longer. Aeraldi, I love you, she said quietly, wanting to tell him before he lost control. What if he was never returned to normal? What if she failed? No! No, I can't think like that! she thought. She waited and allowed Aeraldi's control flow into her, though despairing as it did. She could already feel the conflict within her being resolved, and her clarity returning. Were dragons everywhere going through this? Having their minds replaced with thoughts influenced by instinct? Was she alone?

Phal sat for a while longer, tears streaming down her face. She barely looked up when she heard another approaching, and then gazed dimly at Bahamut when he crashed. Was this truly real? Was it really happening to all of them? Bahamut?

OOC: Whoa, I am defianetly joining this! But I need to read it more thouroughly first, lol. :D

EDIT: Read it, loved it. I'm still joining, if that's alright...Alright, I’m bringing in Syllwin! :D

IC:

Syllwin was lying on an ice of sheet she made herself in the Du Weldenvarden, as she took a little nap. It had been too long since she was on vacation, and every time she did so something strange or horrific showed up. She had been on vacation for two days, and she was intending to use every minute of it no matter what the case. She didn’t, however, try to think of anything like that. It was a peaceful day, and for once she didn’t mind the sun’s rays warming her up. The air around her was cool enough.

Suddenly, a flash of unordinary pain surged through her being, a red hot flash, which made her groan in agony. Syl was practically rolling on the ground, clutching her side, until it had subsided. The throbbing hadn’t ceased, however. It was as if it was an echo scorching through her body. She sat up, shaking, wondering what this could possibly mean. She didn’t know if she was dying or…

In that moment, she knew Bahamut was in pain similar to hers. Syl didn’t know how she knew, but she did. It was as if his pain was her own. He was suffering. But where was he? She had to find out.
Syl quickly arched her wings so that she could take off into the sky without hesitation. She would be able to figure out something from there, but she didn’t know where to begin. It seemed to be coming from the east as far as she could tell. But her sense of direction wasn’t always the best. She didn’t really need it all that much, and now she cursed herself for not practicing on direction skills.

She urged herself faster and faster, until the feelings were becoming stronger. The hollow pain she felt was still there alongside it, and Syl had a hard time ignoring it. But now she knew where she was going. There was some mountains and a couple valleys as far as she could tell…and she wondered what Bahamut was doing all the way out here…

I love you too. Aerald said back, I know that if nothing else, I would not to be with anyone else. He felt he warmth coming from her, even as he felt the clarity disappear from his mind. The primal urges of his race then burst through his mind, he was pure. He heard the collapse of a large dragon behind him and he whirled to face the threat to his valley. It was a strange looking dragon, one that looked strangely like the two-legs that had assaulted him. But it wasn't the same two-legs, so he bore nothing against him. At least not yet anyway.
What are you doing in my valley!? Tell me or I will kill you where you stand!

For all that Keralin knew of the ancient ways of Dragons, Aelir wasn't following any of them. He didn't rampage through the forest, nor even attack anything that growled at him. Aelir went straight for his food and let nothing else distract him.
"Aelir, how are you feeling now?" He asked tentatively.
Better than I have in a long time. The thought was very precise, not like the drivel that Aelir was spouting before. I feel alive, I feel free! As if that thought disturbed him he began growling. This cursed feeling wanting me to go south though is hindering my freedom.
Keralin asked, curious. "What feeling?"
I admit I was crazy first, unable to remember how I thought before. But now I... South. I must go south. Aelir unfurled his wings, readying himself to fly.
"Wait for me!" Keralin said concerned, running to Aelir and jumping onto his back. He didn't think twice about it until he was sitting on top of Aelir.
Part of me... The thought was faint, as if Aelir was only thinking to himself. As Aelir took off, Keralin thought upon the wisdom of letting Aelir go where his instincts told him to.

Polaris felt relief at the fact that her older siblings said they weren't leaving. Their presence comforted her more than she could say, though she wanted to be alone as well. Why did it hurt before? She asked so innocently.
Why were we punished? Saiph's only experience with pain had been either fighting or being punished by his parents. He couldn't remember fighting anyone so why was he being punished.

Bahamut recoiled and got up. His mind was throbbing still and he began hallucinating the past. He visioned the dragons in front of him from ones he had fought in years past. Blinded by raged he charged in at the red one. Swiftly he grabbed him by the neck and dragged him across the dirk and chucked him into a large formation of boulders. He crashed into them. Without waiting Bahamut launched a fireball into the area he threw him into. Now he flew up over the ruined area and wait for his opponent to rise.

You may have awakened from the dead but I will put you back to your grave!

Post Re: RPGC: Resurface of instinct
Phalynx reeled back as Bahamut surged forward, attacking Aeraldi. The tears from her eyes now turned angry, and for the first time in her life, she wanted to take her rage out on someone else, and fully intended to do it. She let out a piercing trumpet of a battle cry, making her scales fire up in brilliance. She flapped straight into Bahamut's face, blinding him in her starlike radiance. Cease your fighting, Bahamut! We are not your enemies! Continue and I promise, you will die! she screeched into his mind, upping the level of gamma radiation coming from her body. If she wanted, she could kill anything with a gamma ray pulse or gamma radiation-infused flame. It would leave her unconscious, but she would get Aeraldi back safely to her, no matter what.

Na'ir kept close to her youngest siblings, feeling protective over them, and upset at their own confusion. She did not know how to answer their questions. I don't know. I'm sorry, but I don't know. Maybe we should just stay here, and wait. Our parents will tell us, she replied hopefully.

Sirius shook his head. He was standing a little off from the group, watching the hills and distant mountains for any signs of activity. Something is wrong. There must be a reason for that. Maybe it's a reason I can fight off, he answered, still feeling a strong urge to defend and fight.

OOC: Im gonna reply while I have this in mind. I apologize for skipping.

Bahamut had to look away to avoid being blinded. You...dare...interfere?!? He lunged his arm out at Phalynx and had a death grip around Phalynx's neck. You may have set out to kill me... You may have rejected me from the race... But in death, I.. will..MAKE..YOU..ACCEPT ME. In a mighty thrust he launched Phalynx into the ground.

Bahamut roared as he hovered higher above the ground. He opened his maw and reached for the magic and built up mass amount of energy. Before he could launch his attack, the unbearable pain returned. He recoiled and he fired, but into the sky as he lifted his head in shock.

A voice entered his mind. Bahamut, you are so foolish. Your anger consumes you. I did not lure you all out here to kill eachother.

Who..are..you..?

Syllwin heard some roaring off in the distance, which made her heard beat nervously against her rib cage. She hurried her flying, only to find Phal's valley with a few dragons ready to fight. She recognized them. Aeraldi, Phalynx, who was fighting with...

Bahamut! Syl screeched, dive-bombing into the scene. Bahamut, stop! What are you doing? Are you insane?

She barrled into his side, away from Phal, so that they were rolling down a hill together. You mustn't fight them, they're our friends!

His eyes seemed wild, unnatural...To Syl, they seemed foreign. Bahamut, my love, it's me, Syllwin, she told him in a desperate attempt to bring him back.

OOC: Argh! Cease your god-modding, Daidrea! Phal can dodge, you know.

And Astral, we're in a valley in the Beors, and Syl doesn't seem to be affected by the loss of the two-leg connection. You're going to make her affected, right? It's making the dragons lose parts of their minds, and make them more primal and instinct-driven. Just lettin' ya know.

OOC: Sure, yeah, that's fine. Just remember: as time goes by, their instincts will probably get more powerful, and eventually they won't be able to fight them off any more. Phal has a little more time of clarity now, but she's still on a time limit before she starts feeling the effects, again. :)

OOC:Ok...just to point out it was hardly god-modding. I didnt take control of your character or made your dragon say something. I merely reacted to your actions. If I wouldve let you post first it would greatly reduce my ideas or it would take too many posts just to get through one part of the fight scene. I'm pretty sure you can take a hit or two. You couldve posted something in reaction to what I did. Like you burst out of the rumble and attack me. Or something of that sort. Do you understand?

And I'm not really mad, I just don't want you to do it a lot, kay? We do have rules. And I don't like it when other rpers don't take Phal's agility into consideration... :)

OCC:*Sighs* Well I got ya....but let me explain this. If you play something like that "it's the rules" all you are doing is putting that person down with just coming up with an idea. Things are not always face value. People shouldnt afraid to limit themselves in the presense of an RPG mod. Course I'm not saying free-rein, but in the situation that presided here moments ago...it does look more interesting and exciting to compact actions forward then waiting on
"Bahamut throws back a swing in attempting to punch so and so"
"The other dragon dodges and swings around and swoops in to counter."
"Bahamut reacts and does....so on and so forth."

It can make it more convient and interesting to do some actions ahead. What I didnt do in the situation is that "Bahamut threw Phal down and she is knocked out and can do nothing." That is unacceptable. What I did is create opportunity on how you would react.

OOC: If you want to do something like that, maybe you should take into account what the other person can do as well. Or maybe even announce your intentions of an action and begin to move for that.
And I think that what Daidrea was not too bad either, he simply attacked Phalynx and didn't hold her for the next round.

And also, Bahamut attacked Phalynx in the presence of Aeraldi. He is gonna get it.

lol, like I said, I'm not really mad. Just annoyed because I want you to realize that I would have let that happen, I just would rather have written it myself. I am smart enough to take advantage of a more story-good thing, like Bahamut hitting Phal away, and I'm not arrogant enough to make her dodge every attack. I just want you to realize that, is what I'm saying.

And the rules thing, it really is against the rules. lol I don't care, I'm just sayin'.

OOC: Dang straight it is! Now, prepare Bahamut to feel the full fury of Aeraldi.
Also, I might add that the main antagonist will be controlled by me if you don't mind. I'll reveal his identity soon, I swear.

Not only did this dragon land unceremoniously in his valley but he had to go and attack his mate! This one did not deserve to live, not now, not ever. Aeraldi released a roar of pure fury, fire threatening to escape from his maw.
YOU WILL DIE FOR HURTING HER! Aeraldi took off, his claws making deep impressions within the rock beneath him. He rammed so hard into Bahamut that Syllwin was knocked off of him. His claws dug deep into Bahamut, as he breathed in. The fire within his chest swelling to much that it felt that it would explode within his chest.
This is MY valley and you attack MY mate! DIE!

Post Re: RPGC: Resurface of instinct
Phal snapped her wings together and rolled when she hit the ground, feeling bruised but not harmed badly. She stood up, feeling more pains added to those already there, and glared at Bahamut, her eyes burning with green fire. She wanted so much to attack, to help Aeraldi tear him apart; but do that, and she would be forgetting what was happening. Bahamut was not in his right mind, and if she attacked, she would be forsaking the control she had left. I don't deserve it if that's what I'd do with it, she thought sadly.

Phal had to find a way to break up the fight, though. But how could she stop two male dragons from fighting, when their minds were controlled by instinct. Suddenly, her head snapped to the area near the ground, where Syllwin was picking herself up. The icy dragoness seemed to still have some control left. If she had enough control over her mind, Phal could get her to help. But would she agree to what Phal had planned?

The starry dragoness flapped down towards the ice-colored one, and helped her up. I can see you still have some control left, Syl. Please listen to me! We have to stop our mates from fighting! We must get in between them. I know Aeraldi will not hurt me to get to Bahamut. Will Bahamut do the same? she said urgently, her voice desperate.

Syllwin thanked Phalynx for helping her up, and stared at her with wide eyes. Wait a minute, do you mind telling me what the heck is going on around here? Why are they acting so weird? I've never seen Bahamut this hostile towards anyone! she claimed. And of course, Bahamut told me once, he would practically go nuts if I ever got hurt. But what does that have to do with anything?

Syl stared down at her beloved mate, wondering why he had intended to hur their friends and, more importantly, what drove him and Aeraldi to such agressions.

If you think it'll work, let's do it, Syl agreed. Stand in front of Aeraldi, and I'll do the same for Bahamut. She walked in front of Bahamut, making sure he couldn't get past her to Aeraldi. If you're going to fight him, you're gonna have to get through me, she warned him, in a gentle tone. You wouldn't hurt me, would you?

Bahamut was about to rush Aeraldi once more when another dragon stepped in front of him. He stared at her, his mind was throbbing. This dragon was familiar to him. His eyes were shaking and he stepped back slightly. Bahamut's vision was impared slightly, but he shook his head. What...? Syllwin? No...you shouldnt be here. Why..?
Bahamut stepped back even more. and placed his hands over his head. What's going on...?
He fell to his knees.

As Phalynx moved in front of Aeraldi, he moved his head so quickly so that he wouldn't hit her, but he couldn't stop the fire that had built within his chest. His fire burst out of his mouth into the air, scorching anything in it's path. The fire raged, the tinge of Crimson that would have been with his flame was outshone with the heat of the flame turning it white and even out-shining the sun. When the flame was done, and the heat dissipated, Aeraldi looked back at Phalynx. Angry, yet unable to hold it against her.
Why did you save him!? He hurt you! He... He hurt you! Why would you want to save him?

Phal darted away at the same time as Syl, thankful that the dragoness was still in her right mind and would help. She moved in front of Aeraldi, her eyes determined and fierce. His brilliant flames dissipated to the side, casting them in a bright glow. We will not let you hurt each other, because neither of you is in your right minds. We all have to work together to find and kill the man who caused these evils. So no one is fighting, she answered, her words ringing authoratatively to all. Phal felt as if she was functioning on borrowed time (almost literally), so she could waste no time with pointless arguments and fights. Hopefully Bahamut would realize none of them was a threat, now that his mate was here. She could calm him.

Phal flew closer to Aeraldi and nuzzled him comfortingly. I'm not hurt, anyway. Just a little bruised. And if you keep going with this fight, we'll all be hurt, she said, her voice softer now.

Phalynx is right, love, Syllwin murmured, approachnig Bahamut slowly. If you keep on fighting, everyone will wind up getting hurt. You wouldn't want that, would you? You wouldn't hurt your friends.

She was to the point where she was leaning her head against Bahamut's shoulder. Syl whispered to him, Something's going on, and we're going to find out what it is. It seems like there's evil at work that is controlling the dragons like this. I know you and Aeraldi are not violent against each other. We need to pull it together and stop whatever is makign you act this way. I won't allow you to suffer like this.

Syl turned to Phalynx. I think he's under control for the time being. I think we get flying so that we can all clear our heads and do a little thinking, she suggested.

Bahamut's head was spinning. He sat down and crossed his legs. His vision became clearer and he could now see Syllwin in front of him without trouble. Syllwin...thank you. He extended his his neck out and touched his forehead against hers.

Aeraldi felt angry at Bahamut still, but he felt ashamed at the fact that Phalynx was telling him off. He took comfort in Phalynx's touch, letting it wash away any thought he had within his mind. A flash of memory took him away from the moment,

I shouldn't be fighting that one, I need to find the one that did this to me. The two-leg. Aeraldi rolled himself back to his feet, and began to use his sight. Around the valley and through it, Aeraldi searched until he came upon a lone wanderer. The one who's face had eluded him, and one that tickled his memory but didn't set it off.
I've found him! He said loudly. I am going to kill him! With that, Aeraldi took off, ignoring everything else that was happening around him.

Phal sighed, comforted by the fact that her mate seemed to have calmed down. She opened her eyes, intrigued, when she sensed a memory playing through his mind. It was an important one, she was sure. She jerked back, alarmed but delighted, when he announced he was going to find and kill the two-leg that had caused this.

Phal sped after Aeraldi, easily catching up to him and flying a little ahead and to the side. Wait for me; I must help you find the evil one. Soon we will get some answers. Which reminds me; don't try to kill him right away. I want to find out more, she spoke with a smile.

Syllwin saw Phalynx and Aeraldi take off in pursuit of the culprit. She turned to Bahamut who seemed dazed and confused still. She reached out a paw and placed it on her mate’s shoulder. Bahamut, we need to go after them. I want to figure out who’s doing all this. Are you coming with?

She refused to go after the others if Bahamut wasn’t up to going anywhere. He seemed to be in a lot of pain, but if she knew Bahamut, he’d be willing to go after the man who was messing with the dragons’ heads like this.

Bahamut was silent and was occasionally shaking his head. Lightheaded and dizzy, he could barely understand what Syllwin was saying to him. We can follow, but just give me a moment... I'm still trying to clear my head.
If he wasnt in the condition he was in, Bahamut would be furious for being controlled like that.

OOC: Aha take that! I've had that happen to me a few times, it's not fun....
Here is your antagonist.

Aeraldi growled a confirmation. He wouldn't take orders from anyone, not even his mate. His mate. Just thinking about it lessened Aeraldi's rage, but he still was frustrated at the fact that she thought she could order him around. Nobody ordered him anymore. This man would pay, slowly and force him back to the way things were before.
Or are we better now that we are free? He wondered. The argument roared in his mind, giving Aeraldi a headache. What has happened to me?

There, a lone robed figure walking on the ground. All the pain, anger and confusion from the last few hours caught up with him. He was going to make his man pay for what he had done, for everything in his life. Phalynx's words echoed in his mind though, causing him to wait in his revenge.
Face me! The anger in his voice apparent. The robed figure stopped and turned to face them. The face beneath the robe all too familiar and not a person that Aeraldi had expected at all.

Retribution turned to face the mighty dragon, his face serene. "So how is the gift I gave to you?" He asked.

OOC: Woah! Awesome plot twist, Aeraldi! Even Phal's mad, now. :D

IC: Phalynx shook her head with a sigh. Aeraldi in his present state didn't realize how important information was. She didn't blame him for wanting to rip apart the man that did this, though. She surged forward when she saw the figure on the land ahead, walking along in a dark robe, his face as yet unknown.

Phal hovered beside her mate when he shouted at the figure, who turned around. She reeled back in shock, and her own anger suddenly boiled to the surface. Phal's lips drew back in a snarl and she dove straight at Retribution, landing before him and growling ferociously. Her feeling of betrayal was making her unreasonable, and now she wanted to rip him apart where he stood.

Gift?! This is no gift! How can we live in violence and primitive ways?! Our nature has changed! Who are you to alter the very minds of our race?! Who are you to cause this pain, this anguish?! You must reverse it! she screeched, enraged. Phal stood directly over Retribution, the green fire that seemed to light her eyes when she was angry now a raging, deadly inferno. Her large wings stayed unfurled and wrapped partially around herself and the two-leg as if she were a hawk and he a piece of prey.

IC:

Syllwin rumbled with happiness, knowing that he was going to be okay. Of course, love, she murmured. She gave Bahamut time to rest and clear his mind, but all the while she kept looking back at Phal and Aeraldi, worried and confused as to what was really going on. She could feel the anger radiating off of the mates, they must have gotten into an argument of sorts. She wasn't able to concentrate on that now. She had to get her own mate up on his feet so that they could catch up.

How are you feeling? she whispered to him soothingly. Do you think you'll be able to fly now?

He felt so exhausted and lightheaded. It just bothered him so much that he couldnt figure out what had happened exactly. In either case, he was just happy that Syllwin was there to comfort him.

Ret's eyes changed from amusement to blank in a single blink of his eyes. "My dear Phalynx, and Aeraldi," He added the second name almost offhandedly, "is there something you notice that is different about me?"

Aeraldi couldn't process the information, he didn't know Ret very well but he did know the once dragonrider had never involved himself in affairs unless they affect his view of honor and righteousness. And even then, he only did what was necessary. Aeraldi did notice something different about Ret though, a major difference. He wasn't marked with the horrors of his past any longer.

"He sees it." Ret said, looking at Aeraldi. "I don't know why you hold onto your previous ways, they are what have destroyed your race. I give you a gift, the power of your race flowing through you once again so that you may survive. Mor'ranr understood, he accepted and now he is more powerful than ever before, despite his current state." Ret closed his eyes for a second, extreme concentration marking his face. "It is the right thing to do."

Phal growled, understanding what Ret meant immediately, but disliking it intensely. He continued speaking, and her eyes narrowed dangerously. Oh, I see, you were being selfish. You did this only for yourself and your dragon, not for the rest of us. Who are you to play at changing every dragon, without even talking to us or seeing what we think of the subject? You do this without permission or consent of any form, and you expect us to welcome it?! As I said before, reverse what you have done! she cried, unforgiving and unrelenting. Dragonkind had suffered many losses, but they were recovering. They needed no "help" from this man.

Syllwin smiled at Bahamut and nodded, staying close in case he needed support. She looked on ahead, wanted to catch up with Phalynx and Aeraldi as soon as they could. She could feel their presence, and Phal seemed agitated by something. They would need to hurry.

Before too long, Syl was beginning to feel the works of the strange instinct that was starting to surface in the back of her mind. She was beginning to see things and think things she would normally not think about.

We have to hurry, love, she urged Bahamut.

Post Re: RPGC: Resurface of instinct
Ret's eyes narrowed, he knew now he was in danger. "I will not reverse it!" He gathered his magic once again, pushing air between himself and Phalynx. Phalynx was pushed gently back from Ret, who raised himself from the ground using magic as well with his arms spread out at his sides. If he harmed Phalynx he would not live to tell the tale with Aeraldi standing next to him. So a display of power had to do.
Ret summoned his all, still not touching the ground, and protected himself with a shield while lightning thundered around him. His hair and clothes rippled in the currents of wind.
"This spell is for your own protection! Accept the change and rid this course from your mind. The race of Dragons must survive! I will see to it personally."

Ret is right in one thing, Aeraldi thought, if any harm comes to Phalynx, I will end him. He had to make sure Phalynx was safe, but why? What made her special? She was his mate and he loved her very much. But there was something else too, what was it?
Where are the memories? Why can't I remember? He couldn't think straight. What was straight? Just what was happening? Why was he so angry and why did he want to harm this man?

OOC: The picture is very much like the Avatar I have now.

Phal let out a low, warning hiss as Ret pushed her back a little with magic, but she allowed him. She scraped the ground fiercely with her claws, leaving long furrows in the rock. This is not for our protection! And you have no right to speak for an entire species! No two leg, or even dragon leader, has that right! she cried, her eyes glaring fire. She stretched back her wings and beat them irritably, stirring up a swift, swirling wind with their large size. She watched his magic swirl powerfully around him, making sure he couldn't escape. You know I will follow you until you change us back, she growled, lowering her head threateningly.
