(enter LOTR fanatic) Gandalf would kick all their asses. Also in the hobbit gandalf and other istari defeated sauron (Neuromance I believe he was known as.) Sauron was the reason bilbo and the dwarves had to go through mirkwood. Gandalf improved vastly after defeating the balrog so much he was the most powerful being in middle-earth and possibly even outside of it as well. I believe Sauron is of around the same power stage of an Istari before he went evil and went with Melkor. Arg its been long time since I read silmarillion and if I could eb bothered this rant would be a bit longer... but heh lucky for you I guess. Also im guessing a lot of you havent read the book...when eowen stabbed the ring raith and also when merry did they lost use of their arms for a long time. Unlike in the film, only pippen was at the battle at the gates of mordor...I wish the put in the bit where he killed the troll cheiften. it would be a little more difficult but he finally beat them... In LoTR the elves aren't as powerful as in eragon... so a wizard like Gandalf can beat them
