Okay...so I was asked to make this topic by a friend. (SILVER) so here it is. Has ANYONE read This book "The hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins? She also wrote the Underland Chronicles but that isn't what we are here to talk about. I had though that "The Hunger Games" was just one book. But I was wrong. It is another seris. The second book will be released September 1st. It's title "Catching Fire". I'm am dying to talk about this book to SOMEONE. So either, SILVER HURRY UP or someone ho has read it SHOW UP! xD

Re: The Hunger Games
I'm trying >.< Lol.
I do know that those versions aren't sold here. This one is:
I personally like this one better, they come with info cards of Peeta and Katniss. Whoot! =D xD
So, just wondering, what's the basic plot here? I feel like it's about a bunch of girls who play a game to see who can starve themselves for the longest amount of time or something =/ Lol.
wow, that's kinda really off lol. Basically its about an annual event that takes place every year. Two people's names are drawn from the a pile: one boy and one girl. Each of the 12 districts choose one boy and a girl. Then they are put into a contorlled arena and told to fight each to the death. Last one standing wins. Thats the basic plot without characters.
I was kidding, obviously. So, are these kids books or what? I kind of assumed they were like Young Adult Fiction or something.

They are.
Actually, Nid, I think I have a quote here you might like ...
"...brilliantly plotted and perfectly paced...a futuristic novel every bit as good and as allegorically rich as Scott Westerfeld's 'Uglies' books." --The New York Times, John Green

oh damn, too bad I have to pay 50$ in late fees at the library... (did you know that if you keep a hard cover book a week past it's due date you get charged 40$? but if you keep 3 paperbacks a month you only get hit with a 10$ charge? I didn't)
That sounds great... anyone want to send me a copy? (that aus cover looks creepy, only because it looks exactly like my ex gf <.< I mean... holy crap)

Oh, now you've piqued my interest ^.^ If I see these at the library I'll check them out. I need something to read in summer anyways.

Silver: John Greene is a very good writer. I just finished two of his books: Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns, so it's interesting you find a quote by him. That is, assuming it's the same John Green. So...Did you get the book yet???
Nida: It really is a very good book. Action, Violence, Death, Amazing plot, and a little bit of Romance (;
Shade: WOW your library fines are crazy high. Im not sure what mine are exactlybut I know that they are not that high. I nce keep a hardback book for two weeks longer and they only charged me $5.00. Your ex-girlfriend? That's kinda funny xD.

Re: The Hunger Games
WOW.
It took me a few hours to finish this, I really had to know what happened. It was amazing! At the start of the Games, my heart was pounding! I was like "Oh ****, oh ****, oh ****!" And then when they got into it! caterpillar! I need to talk SPOILERS with you Alex!!! No one read
Alex (reply really tiny).
HUGE HEAPS OF SPOILERS SO DO NOT READ OTHERWISE THE WHOLE BOOK WILL BE RUINED FOR YOU!!!: When Rue died it was like the saddest moment ever. I was like Oh my god ... don't die! And then the ending was so creepy with the wolves. I don't think I really liked it ._. the fire part was so scary, lol. And the mines! When Kat was deaf I was freaking out lol >.< caterpillar ... I loved this book so much lol. /HUGE HEAPS OF SPOILERS SO DO NOT READ OTHERWISE THE WHOLE BOOK WILL BE RUINED FOR YOU!!!
Anyway, this is the first book in years that I've recommended to mum that she might read (other than Harry Potter in 1st grade). Mainly because I like it so much and the fact both Smeyer and King have their quotes on the cover!
FINALLY YES! A human to talk spoilers with!!!! About tie. Do you see why I wanted you to read this so bad? xD
DONT READ TINY PRINT UNLESS YOU WANT SPOLIERS!!!!!!
I absolutley loved it to. And I loved Kat for what she did for Rue with the flowers even if it wasn't shown on air. Yes...the first time Kat saw Peeta with the group of people my heart sunk. I couldn't believe he betrayed her. And THE ENDING. With the potential suicides!!!! That was amazing and it really had me wondering what Kats true feelings for Peeta was. I loved how the games ended that way. And the medicine scene with the larger guy (forget his name) spared Kats life because of her helping Rue?? WOW. I still cant believe the ending...poor Peeta..I can't believe after all that she outright told him it was all an act. I kinda wanted to smack her because for him it wasn't. Anyway AMAZING BOOOOOOK!
Can't believe we have to wait until SPETEMBER 1st for "Catching Fire". UGH. Gonna have to pre-order xD.

Re: The Hunger Games
YES this book is freaking amazing, probably my favourite now. I don't know, this or my classic Memoirs of a Geisha? GRRR!
Anyway, my mum says that she's never enjoyed a book so much in years. And trust me, my mum breathes books every month. She's running home right now to read it actually ROFL!
It was SOOOO sad when she died, I felt my heart crumble!! Gosh ... stupid Capitol. caterpillar and guess what Alex? I messaged this girl on a site a went on and she told me something amazing cause she infact has won Catching Fire (I only know one thing though). I love it how Kat shoots at the Gamemakers. caterpillar ... I can't get enough out ... it was freaking amazing .. and when Cato's gf dies slowly .... oh my gosh .... .________. this book is pure amazing. I hope Kat goes for Gale, I hate Peeta after seeing that picture of him >.<
I wish spoiler tags worked ...
Kat kinda reminds me of myself a bit cause I spent most of my childhood playing in the forests in the mountains where we lived. And my guyfriend who came with me looked just like Gale! ._.
At first I thought Gale was a stupid name, cause it's a girl's name, but I seem to like it now.
EVERYONE ... READ ... THIS ... AMAZING ... BOOK!

SPOILER! I know...I went to that site. Lucky Lucky girl xD. I kinda want her to end up with Peeta (I for one have not seen the picture lol) I really like Peeta. I'm not sure why...LOL. I know...in a way I felt bad for Cato. It's not like he asked for this. None of them did. They all were forced to become people the are not, which is why I can't say I hate any of them.
PLEASE READ THIS BOOK EVERYONE.

Bah, I'm still going for Gale. Peeta, the stocky baker's son. I don't know about you, but that's not working for me xD Lol, Shade, just go buy it.

Sure, just as soon as I bike the 53 miles to the nearest non-christian book store... (though I think it's cheaper to pay the 8 dollars... lol)
but seriously... I don't like that picture of her... (I think that's a her...) it's just creepy...
Spoiler I don't know...I really like Peeta...I doubt he's stock after that! What did you think about him losing his leg? Yea tell me. Rue is defintley a fav. Cinna also. Don't you love how they give the kids al luxury and the best of the best before forcing them to kiss each other? xD
Yea me too Shade. I like the American covers better. The ones I first posted. They are more mysterious. xD
Lol, when he lost his leg it was surprising. He didn't seem to care! I was like, wth? Rue is my number one cause she's just so adorable and innocent. To kiss each other? Lol! What do you mean?
I just noticed our cover version is a little different. I'll take a photo in a few weeks when my friend gives my book back lol. She's borrowing it at the moment.
Anyway people seriously. If you want a good read, this is for you.
HAHA that was a bad typo! KILL*** Yea Rue is amazing..she is secretly strong...like with the hopping the trees. But then curling up with Kat...that was so amazing. Yea...I think he was just happy to be alive lol.
Haha yea. That's so weird. I've never seen the copy you posted a while back. They dont sell those hear.

Re: The Hunger Games
Spoiler LOL! You confused me there. It was so adorable, I love her so much. I wish Rue somehow could've made it. That would've been awesome. I wonder what was in the grasses where Thresh was hiding ...
It's not that weird, it's just the Australian cover! Lol. I suppose to make it look more young-adult-ish.
SPOLIER Did it say much about Thresh's death? Other than Cato killed him? Yea..but I don't think the Rue thing would have been as good without her dying..i on't mean to sound cold...but the flowers and the song were a major part of it...and it also would've meant Peeta dying.
I'm at the library right now and it says there's one copy available, but it isn't there! What the hell? This series is getting really popular ... it's like on a bunch of summer reading lists.
Oh okay. Well I want to read them but it looks like my library is deficient ... Anyway thanks for putting those spoilers in small text. I'll come back here if I get a chance to check these books out ...
No problem (= You defintley should. xD It's an amazing book.

whoa, it looks like I'm gonna have to read this book lol... I hadn't ever even heard of them. *shrug* lol Nida, I laughed when you said your library was deficient that was funny... I actually keep laughing every time I think about it... haha...
...I just finished the book and all I can say is.... OH MY GAWD! That was effing amazinggg! I can't believe how it turned out, in the end, with the Games, and then Peeta... it was unbelievable! Gosh, please tell me this is a trilogy, right? Must.... read...more..... This book is DEF high on my list of favorite books. Hell, I'd def say it was better than Inheritance! And that quote was right, it is pretty similar to Uglies! Only more bloody, of course. Gosh... Katniss is awesome! What a character... I also really liked Rue... Peeta was pretty cool, too. But I need the next book!!!

YAY!!!! I know, it's amazing, right? Yes, the next one is out in September!!
How cool is Kat? She's like .... just so tough! And Rue .........
I know, I can't wait! Did you also hear that they're making a movie? I think it's supposed to come out in 2011. If they do it well it'll be just so awesome...
[Possible spoilers] Kat is cool as hell! I really liked Rue... the poor girl. But I don't get it. What was Kat doing in the end in regards to her thing with Peeta? She can't possibly believe it was fake and only for the audience? She keeps thinking about Gale... but I don't think she even likes Gale :/ And the end was such a cliffhanger, she didn't get to see her family! Ah well, September isn't so far away...

Re: The Hunger Games
Yup, I knew. Lions Gate has the film rights. They're still looking for a Katniss ... (if only they'd come to Australia x3)
I know! It was so sad when Rue died, like the saddest part in a book I've ever read. What do you mean? I think she may like Gale ... I prefer Gale though. Stocky blonde Peeta ... not really a turn on for me lol. Tall dark-haired guy? Best. I know, I can't wait, neither can my mum lol. How amazing was it with the scene where Rue's district partner kills the blonde?
{spoilers} Gale's cool, too. But Peeta is sweet... you can tell he really cares about Katniss. We don't really know if Kat likes Gale in a romantic sense. All we know is she has conflicting feelings about it...
Oh oh oh, have you read the first chapter? It's available online, I can link it if you want

Lol, I don't look much like her ... need olive skin.
Spoiler:: Nah, just not my type xD I would prefer her to get with Gale. I am SO team Gale here lol. And I think Cinna is gay. xD What was your favourite part?
Nope, I already know one gigantic spoiler. I'll read it when it comes out
That's true... you might be a bit tall for her, too.
Spoilers: But Peeta loves her! Well, I'm sure the love triangle thing will be worked up more in Catching Fire... my favorite part, hm... I'm not sure. There were a lot of good ones. The freakiest part was with the muttations, though... do you think it was really them? Like, how did they make it so it was the tributes? That was scary...
Oh really? Is it about... Peeta&Katniss? On second thought, don't tell me, I don't want to be spoiled... but it's so tempting...

Re: The Hunger Games
Lol, I could play the posh mayor's daughter. Or Kat's mum xD
Spoilers::
Yeah, but still ... Gale just seems better lol. He wanted to run away with her. I know! That was so freaky, I was like, "what the heck?" I don't know ... maybe we'll see them in the next book somehow? I think the whole ideas sad though, I mean, the kid's having to go through all that ...
Haha! I learned from a forum, a girl who'd won a writing competition PMed me and asked if I wanted to know (I made a topic that was revelant, she thought I knew! xD).
Yes you could be Madge! X3 No, her mom is a loser! She doesn't do anything, you're too cool for her ;D
Spoilers: That's true... I just wish we get to see more from his perspective in Catching Fire... I know! I mean, weren't they supposed to return their bodies to their families? Not use them like that.... :shudder:
LOL! But you don't mind knowing? Before the Avatar finale came out, I learned a huge spoiler too, this brings back memories XD
I'm looking up actors/actresses for the charries. Do you think this kid would be good for Peeta? Or how about him?
P.S. I made a sig, you like? :3

LOL Madge!!! You could play Kat, you'd be awesome!
Spoiler: It's so freaky but so damn amazing! I think this is my favourite book series .... xD I'm rereading it now.
"The thing I love most in the world is music" That is the most awesome thing ever for Rue to choose.
Well, it was thrown right infront of me and I think it's enough of a spoiler xD
Holy crud, he looks perfect!!! Can you find a Kat?
Btw http://www.hungergamestrilogy.com/phpbb3/ I joined a bit ago as Little BeeBee xD you should join so we can take over together! It's not a bad place, alot like SF but not as much young kids. Same rules and all.
Me as Kat?! No way, I cannot live up to her epicness! And I can't climb trees like her, or shoot a bow and arrow >.>
Spoiler:: Awesome! I know, Rue was such a cool character.... BTW, I'm making Rafi read this, and that in itself is a miracle, because he never reads! Rima's reading it, too ^-^
I don't know about a Katniss... most fan sites I've seen want Annasophia Robb to play her, only with her hair dyed brown. Something like this:
Ohh sounds good, I'll join! My name is Mourning Glory.

Yeah, I've finished it. It was really good, I rated it a 9.6/10 in the other topic here in Books. I thought it had a unique storyline, and definitely had more mature concepts in there. I haven't ever read a book like it, and I also liked how the author included all of Katniss's (did I punctuate that right?) thoughts and options so thoroughly. It felt like I was actually participating in the Hunger Games because I felt all of her struggles and emotions. Overall, it was a great book.

caterpillar =D We got Catching Fire today!!!! MUST READ ^o^
I think HG is like.... my favorite book ever ... o.o
Agreed with Raf; Collins is a heck of a writer ;D
TEAM PEETA ALL THE WAY! bring it, Silvaa ;D SPOILAZ!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The muttations were seriously freaky... Do you guys think it was the actual bodies of the deceased tributes? But how did they turn them into wolf-thingies? Maybe I'm underestimating the capabilities of the Capitol, lol. But even if they altered them physically, how did they make them.... not dead? =/ And on top of that, they changed their brains somehow because all the muttations were attacking Katniss, even the Rue one, right? OR, maybe the muttations weren't the tributes at all, but maybe they were other humans that they altered but maybe they gave them all the respective traits of the tributes just to throw off the remaining tributes.... ??? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Like it? No... I ******* LOVE IT!!!! Holy crap this book is so awesome, I'm not even half way through and I think it's the greated book I ever read. For those of you that haven't read it. READ IT NOW! Yesterday, I was in one of my classes and I left the book out, and some kid started looking at it, and was like "Hmm, this sounds good." He started to read the first few pages, but class ended and he had to stop reading. Today, BAM!! He has the book. True story.

Awesome! It's nice to know more and more people are taking interest in the HG. Maybe the series can even surpass Harry Potter! Well, not likely. It should be up among the best series though.
Rima finished Catching Fire the other day, and she ran downstairs screaming like a lunatic, so I'm assuming it was a good book. Apparently it's 10x better than the HG. It's too bad I won't be reading it any time soon. Nida has to finish it, and then I'll be left with it during the school year, which isn't a good time for me to read. Ah well, at least I'll be late in discussing it with Silver.

I read Hunger Games all night Tuesday, was freaking epic, it was like, quarter after one in the morning and I was shocked when they killed Rue ... it was like, whoa! I love it, I'm going to get catching fire tonight maybe,...

Nice! Have you finished it yet? By the way, keep careful with posting spoilers in here, I have a feeling the Hunger Games fandom from SF is going to increase soon. All we need to do is keep convincing people to read the series.

Re: The Hunger Games
yeah but, you're reading a book where 24 people are fighting to the death and the book just happens to end after the Games, so obviously 23 people are going to die, and the first person view really does kill who's going to win... I mean, I loved how it was told and how well it was told in FP but... and yes, I finished it the night I got it... or rather, the next morning (3:30 am ) happy? I said 23 :p *is currently looking at library holds on other tab* did you know that there is a book called "Catching Fire: How Cooking Made Us Human" I should so get that lol (Catching Fire has 47 holds and there are only 8 books lol...) I love my library lol

Re: The Hunger Games
So I just read both of them and I am addicted. I liked Hunger games better than catching fire, simply because Catching Fire seemed...rushed? I liked the detail she gave during the games in the first book. Don't get me wrong, Catching Fire was amazing, but tHG was better. Can't wait for the last one to come out.

Cool, I had no idea you read the series too! Did you decide to read it because of our recommendations of was it out of your own will?
I haven't read Catching Fire yet, but I definitely intend to. The third and final book is supposed to come out sometime in 2010, according to Arya's information. Yeah, she gave a lot of detail describing the Games, but enough to the extent of remaining interesting. I'm glad she didn't go overboard with the descriptions, like other authors I know...

@Fronzz: Another obsessed fan =D Join the club xD I know what you mean, CF was a bit rushed, but I think that was for the best; too much description would have dragged on and on unnecessarily (coughEragoncoughrockscough). It helped keep a fast, exciting pace ^.^
But the ending, gack! Total cliffhanger, I'm like dying -___- Must read third book...*waits* v.V
@Aang: Hurry up and read it! X3

You know, I really do not know how to feel about Katniss just now. I am confused, disappointed, upset, understanding all at the same time, about how she acted towards Peeta. I am dying to know what happens there in Catching Fire.

Peeta is so good, kind-hearted to the bone... and Gale is such a good friend, a guy of few words, but honest and straightforward........

Re: The Hunger Games
I'm completely for Team Peeta. From what I've read (only HG), Gale doesn't even like Katniss enough to be in a whole relationship thing. At least Peeta shows true feelings for her. It may have been for the publicity at first, but it was sweet how he told her it was all real in the end.
Dude, I'm starting to sound like a girl. Maybe I shouldn't be in this topic.
Relationships certainly aren't the main focus of the HG series though. I still need to get started on Catching Fire and find out what the book could possibly be about. From what I've been hearing, it's apparently really unpredictable and has a bunch of twists, so I''m itching to find out what they are!
By the way guys, I did a book report on The Hunger Games! It was like a book jacket I had to make, with a cover, two inside flaps for a summary of the book and an "About the Author" section, and a back cover with reviews of the book. It was for my English class, which you probably assumed, and I handed it in on Monday, so I'm not sure when I'll receive it back from my teacher along with my grade. I wanted to scan it to show you guys, because I put a ton of work into it. Toph also helped a lot with the cover, since I once again procrastinated and had to start and finish it in one day. So when I get it back, I'll show my homies (you guys)!!

I'm still waiting for my turn at Catching Fire, I had my school library order it, because there are like, 12 more people in front of me I think at the Public Library... GAH! I've got nothing to read!!!... land over-all, I think Gale would be more help to Kat than Peeta, I mean, Peeta did what? sit dieing in a mud bank yeah? I just think Kat and Gale would fit together so much better... though I think a Gale Betrayal would be epic

They are both really good. I feel the same about Kat's relationships with Peeta and Gale. It isn't repetitive and easy to see who she will end up with or if she will end up with anyone. I can't wait to read the third one and see how everything ends up.

Since when is being tall and dark haired the only positive characteristic for a relationship?

Wow. Did you not read the part of the book where Peeta tried to keep Katniss alive during the whole Hunger Games? Or did you conveniently skip over that little piece?
(Speaking from a CF perspective) Gale's just an immature brat who's jealous and selfish, and when you all read CF, you'll see what I mean.
Silverwolf Strider wrote:

This is actually really irritating me, it's like Zutara all over again. Only worse.

He's sexy, hot, dark hair; he wanted to take Katniss away, just the two of them, he's strong, probably has a lot of good muscles on him. He's also older.

Re: The Hunger Games
I could care less about looks And I doubt that's the only thing Katniss is looking for, too He only wanted to take Katniss away because he's selfish and would have left everyone behind to starve, like his family and the others in District 12 who depend on him to buy meat from. Strong? Oh, come now, wasn't that Peeta's advantage in the training? For the judges? It said he would lift like 100-pound bags of flour or something back at the bakery. I'd say that's pretty strong too Older? That doesn't matter either
Face it... Peeta's just better than Gale. ^-^

Re: The Hunger Games
Ok, you're going down, Rima D=< [at least until I read CF d;]
[HG POV debate] Firstly, the great elaboration I gave on Gale's looks was to proove he's not only more eye-candy, but he's fit. Sure, Peeta can hurl around 50-kilo bags of flour, but Gale's a hunter. More stamina, more useful when it comes to survival. Secondly, if you reread, he added, "IF we didn't have so many kids" meaning their siblings and their mothers [because both Kat and Gale's fathers died in the same mine explosion]. So it was obviously just a thought out loud and to be frank, sounds like something I'd say if I were in that position too. Who would want to be near District 12 with the Hunger Games, witnessing people die in starvation etc. I'd personally prefer my own haven/paradise in the middle of nowhere with plenty of food and someone I care about, wouldn't you? And I don't really see how "hauling around baking trays all day" would make you any stronger than someone who at times shoots game, including deer and has to carry carcasses through the forest, meaning over terrain, all the way back to the Seam to be traded in the Hob. I'd say that's fairly strong. And the older part is just a turn on, that's all. [The previous sentence was added in a very matter-of-factly tone].
As for the downfalls of Peeta. Well, giving up in the mud is not much of a bonus in anyone's eyes, so he's gained no kudos for that. Gale is like Katniss, Gale can provide for Katniss, Gale would stick by Katniss, not take on the role of the helpless Swamp-Thing.
