Post Re: hello saphira forums from austria!!
i'm back home in america now, where the food is good and normal.

and not really, that was me saying hi from austria, and i will tell some of what we did and hopefully post pictures of some of what we saw.

anyways. we arrived in munich, germany, and drove to salzburg in austria, where we stayed for about two days. we also ate at the cafe mozart and saw a marionette play. we saw a castle, and got to walk around and enjoy the city. We then went to Melk, where we stayed at the Golden Star. then we drove to Durnstein, and hiked up to the castle there, where King Richard the Lionhearted was held prisoner. The next day (the fourth of july) we went to Melk Abbey, which was near our hotel. it was a very elaborate and cool abbey, and had an interesting history. we then went to the castle/manor of the archduke ferdinand, whose death sparked WWI. the next day, we visited the castle aggstein, the most famous castle in austria, which also has an interesting history, and i bought a sword there. we then headed to the city of cesky krumlov, in the czech republic which also had a castle, and we saw it briefly the first day, an more of it the next day. my brother also bought a sword here. then after buying his sword and looking at the castle and gardens, we drove to a village near the town of P'sec (sp?), where we stayed until the 14, working at a soccer camp for a lot of kids there, which was lots of fun, especially hanging out with the american tour group working the camp and plaing local matches. on the 14 we went into prauge, which is the czech capital. we walked around, then ate dinner and looked at the castle, then eventually to to our temporary home at 2am and slept. sunday the 15, we drove to hodinin, where we settled in to a hotel, had dinner, and the next day stayed for part of another soccer camp before driving to vienna. in vienna, we walked around, saw a huge armory full of arms and armor form medieval times and stuff. the next day we grabbed a quick breakfast and saw a large royal mansion palace thing. it was cool, and had a very cool greek gods style fountain, an on a another cool building. the gardens were beautiful, and then we went briefly through mazes and labrynths and saw and apple struedal made, then drove the four hours to munich. the next day, we went to the airport, they delayed us five hours till almost 6pm, we flew the 9 hours to philly, went to the hotel us air put us up in, got up at 4:30 today, and flew home. and now i just got on and told you about it. so yeah, our trip in a nutshell.

We went to Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic also! It's almost scary the amount of things that we did that were the same or similar to things you did. See "Going anywhere for the Summer?" for info about my trip.

Post Re: hello saphira forums from Austria!!
We only spent a day in Salzburg unfortunately and we spent it doing a Sound of Music tour. We also went to Hitler's Eagle's Nest, which he got for his birthday from the Nazis. We didn't focus much on Mozart either, regrettably, but we did go to the village where his mother and sister lived. I forgot what a funicular is, could you remind me? We only went to two castles though and both were in Bavaria, the castles' name's were Neuschwanstein (sp?) and Hoffschwangau (sp?). Neuschwanstein was the castle that inspired the Cinderella castle at Disney Orlando and belonged to "Mad" King Ludwig III. Hoffschwangau belonged to Ludwig's father and his family and was the castle that Ludwig the third grew up in. Ludwig never lived in his own castle, it was never completed, because while it was being built (14 years after they had started building) Ludwig was declared insane and therefor in-eligible to hold the crown so his Uncle was made king ("Mad" King Ludwig had a younger brother but his brother was declared insane long before Ludwig was). Two days after being de-throned, Ludwig was found dead in a river, by suicide, homicide or accident, no one knows.
Just thought I'd give you some history about the castles :)

Oh I think we went on one of those in Prauge to this famous resturant. It's really cool, all the sides are made of glass, kind of like a green house. It's sort of expensive but the food is incredible and so is the view. You feel like you can see the whole city of Prauge up there. It was funny because President Bush had been only days before us on his trip to Prauge.
