I'm sorry if I offended you. However who would make a book where he would die? ok fine he can die like at the end but who else it there to save the varden. I am not disscussing this anymore.

sjlsscsdoo is asking an interesting question. What if Eragon were to do? I don't think he's asking if Paolini will put it in his books, but if, as the story stands, Eragon were to die. What would the situation then be. This is a hypothetical situation. Am I right?

No problem! So, what IF Eragon suddenly had a massive heart-attack and died before Brisingr was released?

well, in that case, i would have to go against my previous belief that the third egg won't hatch. if eragon died during the gap between eldest and brisingr, then roran would be the next rider, avenging himself with the ra'zac and then killing galbatorix





wait, i just remembered that christoper paolini released the third chapter of the next book in the special edition of eldest and eragon and roran are both in it....so he couldn't die before brisingr....but he could die during the attack on the ra'zac, and then they could reflect back to the last couple of months and show eragon sharing some training with roran, and then when the next egg hatches after the attack on the ra'zac, you get a brief glimpse of roran going to Ellesmera, and then the attack on Galbatorix...or something like that....you people can perfect my flaws....im too lazy to do that....

But Eragon is the link between humans and dwarves, and he is the symbol of hope for the Varden. So, if he dies, it would be like cutting off the head of the snake, and Nasuada would have an extremely hard time keeping the Varden from disbanding and giving up the fight.

maybe instantly because eragon dies while him and roran are stealing the last egg......

Well...Roran would have to do something really amazing to prove he's as good as or better than Eragon "was". So, if nothing else, the panic delay of the Varden would give Galbatorix time to resupply and replan.

well....if eragon had been telling roran about magic.....and maybe before eragon dies, roran gets to meet oromis, and oromis tells roran some things....and then when they're trying to steal the egg, eragon dies....but the egg hatches for roran.....then roran already knows some stuff....and is already a good fighter....so maybe they'll trust him......

Correct. We know that Eragon cannot die in the books. We just were wondering what the impact would be if he were to die, which of course, won't happen in real life.

well, really, the impact would be catastrophic to the dragon race, because saphira died.......but, thorn could be turned good and leave to some other island and find a mate, then it wouldn't be so bad....

But what if Thorn wasn't able to sever that evil hold Galbatorix has on him? And what if Roran wasn't to become a dragon rider?

and, regitress, if that were too happen.....i would cry in misery and sorrow for the fate of Alagaesia.......(and the dragons)......



maybe the dragons from far, far away might come over to alagaesia for some reason, some trouble on their island right when thorn and murtagh are about to destroy the varden, and then the varden are saved and new dragons are here......YAY!!!!!

Not necessarily, because When Galbatorix's dragon died, he didn't die. Of course, if their bond was strong enough, then it's possible that she could wither away and die.

but remember, a dragon can die and the human will live (in the case with Brom's dragon Saphira and Galbatorix's original dragon). but if the human dies, so does the dragon.

Ok, well, I must have forgotten that... Anyhoo, Saphira will certainly die then. THat means there are only four dragons left: Thorn, Galbatorix's dragon, Glaedr, and the unhatched egg (which must be green!) Two of these dragons are bad and one is too old. The world has no hope! Who knew Eragon's life was so tied to Alagaesia?

well, for one, i really think that unhatched egg is going to be destroyed, because what reason would cp have to hatch it? except maybe if eragon died and roran took eragon's place on the new dragon. but what if that new dragon is female? then wouldnt the whole dragon and alagaesian race be saved?

You know that part about if the rider dies the dragon does too, isn't really correct. Galbatorix's present dragon isn't his. Remember the book said that he killed its real rider and forced Shruikan to be his dragon, so why then, did Shruikan not die?

because galbatorix made shruikan his dragon first then killed the rider. so the dragon couldnt die for his old rider because his old rider was his rider no more....

But according to CP that is not possible, because once hatched the dragon is linked to its true rider and thus will still die from the loss.

CP hasn't explained dark magic enough to make that theory.

Hmmm....It seems that we have found a hole in CP's book.

CP says that there is a link between the Dragons and their riders. If the Rider dies, then the dragon will die too. However, if the Dragon dies, the Rider will not necessarily die. Galbatorix's dragon died, but he did not. He made Shruikan his by using magic to cloud the dragon's mind and killing its owner. But how did the dragon survive, if, when the rider dies, the dragon dies? And CP has not made it clear whether a human can use magic to keep the dragon alive and sever the link.....Interesting.

Exactly what I was trying to say. Now if we could get plausible evidence we could prove that SJ is correct, yet CP probably doesn't even seem to know his own mistake. It is quite the mind-boggler...

no, wait. we have not found a hole. pg. 33 of Eragon (softcover) says that galbatorix and morzan stole a dragon hatchling that became shruikan. the only magic involved was to make it hatch for galbatorix. when galbatorix killed a rider was when him and some ally decided to kill an elder and then galbatorix did and then killed his ally....

Well, what about Roran. Based on his character, what do you think he would do if Eragon had died immediately after fighting Murtagh?

well, for one. roran would chase murtagh to the ends of the earth, probably find a dragon egg, have it hatch, go back to oromis for the same training as eragon, chase murtagh, kill murtagh, find galbatorix, kill galbatorix, and his dragon would leave to some island, find a mate, come back to alagaesia, dragons repopulate the earth, roran takes the throne, end of story.....

But what if the egg doesn't hatch for Roran? And while Roran's doing all that, Galbatorix will be rebuilding his army and using the lull to attack and destroy the Varden.

Besides you forget about small but important detail: Roran is slimy peasant so he can never kill so many people! Unless he start to use pitchfork

okay, if the egg doesn't hatch for roran, then it probably won't even hatch for anybody as it will probably be destroyed in the final battle. now, before you start going all boo-hoo about the future of the race of the dragons, consider the fact that roran is still a good fighter, just as good as any of the varden probably, and his intellect in the art of war will probably be of good use in attacking galbatorix. so, once the ra'zac are dead (where eragon will probably die. that, or when theyre raiding the egg), roran and the varden will attack galbatorix, kill him, save murtagh and thorn, roran will rule, thorn will leave, find a mate, and come back and repopulate alagaesia.

Why do you people like Roran and Thorn so much? First of all I don't see reason for Eragon dying after he go on raz'zac hunt, those beast just broke Roran's hand what can they do to much stronger dragon rider, only hope for rozzacs is that Eragon will start crying in the middle of battle because Arya doesn't want him, not very probable but possible.

Egg can hatch for anyone, I would add a new character because it would be surprising and still much better than dragon rider with hammer, ok ok so I hate Roran ...

well i dont think CP wold just add a new person cause the character would not have time to develop a personality al the riders curently have been intro douced in the first book therefore haveing time to develope or whatever. so i think the rider has been introduced in ERAGON

Because his part in Eldest was boring and he did lot of weird things (like when he let razzacs to steal his girl from his bed) and I don't really know i just have this strong feeling.

New characters will have plenty of time to develop since there is going to be 4th book, right?

Yeah, Roran seems to be too subject to his emotions, which is why I really didn't like reading his part of the story in Eldest. Blah.... Plus, he doesn't have that innate ability to use magic like Eragon. I still think that with Eragon will die the last hope of Alagaesia.

okay. so apparently i missed a lot last night because i was at some boring stupid class (you know what im talking about, regitress).



okay, so weve pretty much agreed that roran wouldnt be the next rider. we agreed that before i even posted my last post. but arya? idk, i just cant see her being the next rider. besides, she IS so powerful, what need does she of a dragon?


and i agree that roran is all that you said, but think about this. yes, he may be a slimy peasant, yes, he may not be good with a sword/bow, yes, you may hate him, but he is still eragons cousin, which counts for something. eragon would not leave life to have his cousin unprepared. between eldest and brisingr, eragon could train roran with sword/bow/magic (what little bit a non-dragon rider can do {like Du Vrangr Gata}), so Roran would be a least a little bit prepared for the next big battle.


but then somehow roran is there when eragon goes to steal the last egg, eragon dies, but roran escapes. the egg hatches, roran is already prepared, but he still has to go to oromis. so you see him briefly flying to oromis, but you dont actually have to read the training, because you read that in eldest. then next chapter (so and so weeks/months later), roran comes back, fights galbatorix, and wins.



and btw, i dont like thorn, incomer, i just happened to mention him because if the third egg was destroyed, thorn would be the only hope for the dragons.



but if roran is the next rider, a green dragon will probably be female, so it could be Thorn and ???????. but i dont like that. blech. thats just disgusting. thorn is too evil, and probably will never change. roran will probably have to kill thorn after galbatorix just because thorn never knew what good was before he hatched. anyway, so ?????? will go to weird island to find mate, come back, and repopulate alagaesia. yippee.

Thorn technically is not evil, he just has to follow everything Galbatorix says, because Galbatorix knows his real name.
As to the egg:

Its possible it could hatch for Roran, but I don't want to believe that because I just don't like him....

Now for the Arya theory, wouldn't it have already hatched because she ferried it between the varden and the elves for 70 years, until it was captured by Galbatorix. Not to mention, she said, in Book 2, that she had already been presented to the eggs and none had hatched for her.

wow. i never thought of that, but i like that, because i really dont want arya to be the next rider. idk why, i just dont. maybe because it would be another thing that eragon and her would have in common, and eragon just needs to move on with his sorry life.

To repopulate Alagaesia of dragons, of course. Plus another dragon, in the right hands, could help destroy Galbatorix.

CP already said it was male.... he also said Eragon would have a long life so I don't think he will die anytime soon.......

that was off topic, so, anyhoo, where were we? Oh yes, I have not read the books since this past winter. I reread them only because I couldn't remember what happened, and I needed to refresh my memory before Brisingr.

What about the tension between the Dwarves and the elves? The dwarves were reluctant to accept Eragon, so if he died and another human became a rider, what would their response be?

probably bad, cuz they only accepted eragon cuz eragons cool and good and just totally AWESOME. but another rider (unless its Roran) would probly displease them....

oh yeah. their only hope at winning the war and they are DISPLEASED! That has to be a joke. They wouldn't be displeased. They wouldn't like the rider *cough Arya cough*, but they wouldn't be displeased with there being another rider. It would be a good thing.

Perhaps some of the rulers would understand the importance of having a rider as a figurehead of hope for the people, but most of the regular dwarves would hate it.

Not true! Eragon promised in Eldest that he would help Roran save Katrina, so he'll be in for a while. Besides Roran is probably going to be the next Brom/Murtagh character, you know the person who spars with him, travels with him to many places. CP Based the entire first book on who travelled with him. CP had to have people travelling with Eragon, so he might make Roran, take the empty space of Murtagh. Based on their heartfelt conversation in the tent, that's what could happen.

Remember, this isn't about how CP would write in Eragon's death, but what would happen if, in reality, Eragon died. It doesn't matter that Roran's an important character in the book. He just doesn't have the necessary skills to become a rider. And besides, the egg is so far away that he'd have a heck of a hard time getting to it, if he was even able to.

not if eragon was helping him.....remember, we concluded that eragon would die while him and roran are rescuing the egg.....and remember, i also said that eragon would have started training roran in between eldest and brisingr so that he would have the qualities of a rider.....

I think it's funny how every new person who comes to this thread always tells us that Eragon won't die, then we have to explain that this is a hypothetical situation and has nothing to do with CP or a theory about what he'll write....

If eragon would die it would be to kill galbatorix. But I dont think that he will because of his vision in the first book.

if eragon died that would set off a chain reaction of dead people and there would be pretty much no one else alive; saphira would die cuz she's his dragon; elva would die cuz he didnt switch the spell and she'd die saving someones life; roran would die cuz he would try to save katrina and die in the process; raazc dies cuz roran dies attempting to use magic then he blows up killing everything around him; katrina dies of shock that roran dies; sloan dies when he relizez katrina is dead and has nothing else to live for; murtagh dies cuz galbatorix gets mad that the razac are dead and takes his fury out on him; thorn then dies; nasuada then dies from the shock that the dragons are all dying and she'll have no one to fight the big bad meanie and solve all her problems; orik dies cuz...he felt like it (im running out of dead people theorys!!!); arya dies cuz she decided to try and kill galbatorix single handedly and was walking up to his castle when she tripped and smacked her head on a rock and died from lack of remaining brains; islanzadi dies cuz arya died pathetically; galbatorix dies from lack of enemies and; that pretty much leaves just angela and solembum alive...wait...angela dies from...umm...wait scratch that, she's the only one alive so she takes over the world and rules it her own way! *gasping for breath*

i think eragon needs to stay alive =)

lol thanks ive been reading things for awhile but i never joined and im reading the books again so im remembering new thoeries so i thought what the heck i'll join and add my 'brilliant' theories to a growing pile of nutty ones!

ok about roran dieing i forgot he was a rider so i must think up a new death...*pondering*...*lightbulb flickering DING DING DING DING* ok so roran has the green dragon and he's saving katrina and the dragon (named...umm...lamo...nvm...he's name is...weak-one...nah that wont work either...ok forget his name wait! he is nameless!) ok so nameless and roran are flying around trying to find katrina and...a random arrow hit him and he dies...no...not pathetic enough a death for him...ok...brainstorm for new death...umm...got it! he's flying on nameless and katrina who just barley escaped from razac by herself saw roran flying so she tried to jump on the back of nameless but in the process she bumped roran's funny bone and he is wincing in great pain and he slips off nameless and falls to his death below!
