Post A familiar sense of woe
OOC: Hey people this is my first time back in a very long time, but I'm back and hopefully for good this time, anyone can join so please do

IC Tuorin pushed his hair back from off his face as he bent to examine the Dwarf's wares. He noticed the brooch, crafted in silver and sapphires, it was shaped like a finch with sapphire wings and eyes while its body was a delicately etched silver piece. The brooch reminded him of a time without worry, of a time when he was left to love. Over two hundred years have past and I still miss you my love. "How much for this piece?" He entreated. The dwarf grunted and fetched a companion. A slightly taller and leaner dwarf came from behind the stall. "Derûndânn Elf, how can I be of services to you?" asked the new dwarf, clearly younger than the smith. "I was just wondering as to the price of this finch brooch?" responded Tuorin. "To catch the eye of a elf is an honour. For you 15 gold pieces and the pretty little trinket is yours." Tuorin decide to pay instead of haggling all day. Once the purchase was complete he made his towards Beartooth River Sioc I'm making my way back to camp, how fares the hunt?

Sioc licked his foreclaw clean of the grime from his latest kill. The hairy-four-hoofed-goat had been quick, but he was faster. Sioc paused for a moment as a feeling of anguish swept over his partner-of-mind but Sioc knew this was no physical pain Little one why do you seek to remember the grief He thought to himself. Lifting his great wings Sioc took off from the cloud-breaking Beor mountains and circled over the river. When Tuorin called out to him Sioc began the slow descent over the sloped-cool-aired-ground, tilting his wings Sioc caught a downdraft from the mountain and rushed to their camp The hunt was easy, the meal was messy, I still have fur in my back teeth. I will see you at camp and be safe

Tuorin smiled to himself as he left the market. And then a mental spear lacerated through his defences, his head felt as if it would spilt open, he tasted blood and his vision blurred. In the distance he heard a roar like rolling tunder, and then Sioc was there. Helping him push back the attacker

Post Re: A familiar sense of woe
Rok dove down, flaring his wings and flapping powerfully when he was a hundred feet above the ground. He came to a standstill, hovering in the air for a few seconds, then dropped down beside the shore of the small lake he had spotted from above. The brown lowered his head and quaffed down a few large mouthfuls of water.

His head jerked up, a startled hiss escaping his throat as a roar echoed throughout the mountains. He looked around warily, his bright orange eyes taking in everything. That was a dragon, he said to himself, leaping into the air. He circled the lake a few times, using the last echoes of the roar to get the direction of the dragon, then arced off and sped toward it.

Before long he came upon a white dragon with ice-blue markings. The dragon was thick in it's neck and chest, telling Rok that it was male. He was a good size, at least a century old, but nowhere near Rok's own eight-centuries of growth. From the rage and panic rolling off of him, even from this distance, Rok could tell someone precious to the dragon was in danger. His Rider, Rok thought, the wound in his mind and heart that never seemed to heal fully, wrenching, threatening to tear wide open. He closed his eyes and grasped his head between his forepaws, shaking his head slowly from side-to-side as he tried to clear it.

His wings were still moving, but slowly, just enough to keep him in the air while not really moving forward. After a few seconds he released his head and started towards the other male dragon again. Wait! I heard you roar, what has happened? Is it your Rider? he called, eyeing the dragon closely. If he was enraged enough, he might attack Rok thinking he might have information on his Rider. Not that he posed much of a threat, Rok was at least three times his size.

The big brown sped up the beats of his wings until he was closer to the white-ice blue, then stopped, hovering in the air beside him.

Post Re: A familiar sense of woe
Sioc had lost control. Panic had engulfed him. One moment little-one-Tuorin was taking to him, the next there was only pain and then nothing. He could no longer feel him. TUORIN! BROTHER! ANSWER!. He bellowed at the skies. Rage consuming him. He released his wings and paused to take flight. The dwarven street will run blood but just before he launched into the air he felt a tendril of Tuorin's thoughts touch his mind. The pain was fading, but he was alive. Sioc pushed his concious into Tuorin's and helped defend his Rider. Tuorin's mind was a blizzard of emotions and memories. Sioc quickly shelled his partner, giving him room to breath

Thank you

Sioc sighed. His thoughts are weak but he is alive. Sioc then assaulted the attackers with his own mind. Smashing through their barriers he quickly located 3 minds. Causing two to kill each other Sioc caused the last to break his own legs. Then he read their location from his mind. Returning to himself Sioc noticed that something was amiss. He was in the shade. Only seconds had passed it was not right. Turning about Sioc noticed a Dragon of huge proportions. Bigger than even elder Colrath who had taught him to fight. Every time Sioc knew this dragon would have the advantage of power, but if it came to a fight hopefully Sioc would be the lithe of the two. Tensing Sioc judged the elder ones movements. He was not ready for a fight, nor did he look frighten or cautious. Slowly he decided this massive Dragon was no threat. Yet. Who are you elder one And do you mean to hinder me?

Tuorin finally started to gain his sense back. First was the smell of the dusty ground underneath him. Next was the sound of the huddled crowd nearby. Tuorin slowly tried to rise, that was when he noticed the thud, thud, thud. My wards! He was being attacked. Tuorin's battle reflexes kicked in. Before his surroundings where in focus Tuorin swept his right foot in a wide circle on the ground, leapt into the air and drew a dagger from his belt. Landing close to the attacker Tuorin stuck the blade into the ground where the attackers throat should have been. Clang! The sound of metal on rock. Tuorin's eyes refocused. A group of dwarves surrounded him. A look of shock on their face. And under him was a small dwarven child. A wicked knife in his hand. Realisation dawned upon Tuorin, he'd missed his attacker's throat because it was a small child. Standing up straight and lifting the child by the scruff of the neck Tuorin began quizzing him "I HAD TO! I HAD TO!" the child began screaming. "What do you mean had to? Asked Tuorin. Setting the child down but keeping his hand on the child's shoulder. The market guards were standing nearby getting accounts of the events from the nearby crowd. "I had to" whispered the young boy as he began to weep. With the guards so close casting any spells aloud would be dangerous So he began to mutter in the ancient language. Spells he had devised to test if one was acting of their own free will or not. This child had not. Handing the kid over to the guard Tuorin said "It was a simple cut purse attempt. It seems he was trying to impress some older kids or something. No harm just make sure he gets home safe" "Of course and again we apologise Master Elf." "Think nothing of it, even I was young once" with that Tuorin began to walk away. Sioc?

We've company and you have something to collect Sioc showed him a window out-looking onto the top of a purple and red stall selling jewellery and such. The very stall Tuorin had bought his trinket

Tuorin made his way to the stall. It was getting close to dusk and the assistant was packing up the wares. Tuorin waited until he was gone and scaled the building through the window. By the door was his package, straining to undo the bolt lock. Tuorin knocked the black garbed dwarf out and threw him over his shoulder. Undoing the lock and strolling out the back way he made for camp I'll be there in less than an hour

Rok stopped as the dragon faced him. He watched the other dragon size him up warily and felt his mind reach out to his own. I am Rok, he said simply, tilting his wings forward a bit to slide towards the other dragon. Your thoughts are crazed, enraged even. What has upset you? he asked. His molten-orange eyes narrowed when he saw a few of the worried creases between the dragon's eye-scales ease. Is it your Rider? Are they okay? he continued, deciding that it was okay if the other dragon knew he could spot a bonded dragon.

Sioc paused before answering. Just waiting and listening to Tuorin, as soon as the elf hit the main path to the camp he focussed back on the dragon, Rok. He was attacked, just a moment ago. But now he is safe. He will be with us shortly. I am Sioc and my Rider is Tuorin. We have no quarrel with you but tell me this. How is it that you arrived at the same time my Rider was attacked? Sioc knew that the attack was too powerful for a single entity other than a dragon or a spirit. They had cut off his bond with his Rider, Sioc didn't even believe such a thing had even been possible. As the elder dragon descended and gave away his advantage Sioc realised that he was doing so to show he ment no harm. Elder who could be powerful enough to break a bond of Rider and Dragon. Even for just a moment there I feared Tuorin had gone from this world. Had passed on to the void without me.

It pained Rok to show a weakness as terrible as the one he bore, but he opened his mind to Sioc a little further and allowed him to feel the jagged, pulsing edges of the pain he felt. I understand completely, he said quietly, snapping the barriers around his mind back into place after a few moments. He looked away from Sioc and pretended to scour the ground, as if he might find answers for the white-blue down below. Let us not waste anymore time, we should rush to aid your Rider, he said, looking back up at the dragon and twitching his tail, indicating he should take the lead.

Post Re: A familiar sense of woe
In that very moment their minds touched Sioc realised in his time in this life he had never felt pain such as Rok. I am sorry for your lost. And indeed he was. Sioc gazed at Rok knowing that Rok must be a strong one to continue without his bonded partner. To live such a life would be too painful for Sioc, without Tuorin Sioc would be too lost to continue on. If you wish to follow. With that Sioc leapt into the air and spread his wings wide. Tilting south he made his way to Tuorin and resolved never to leave the little elf on his own again.

The only sound was of Tuorin's feet thudding into the dirt as he ran. Pausing for a moment he switched his luggage to the right shoulder. He used a small bit of magic to heal his knees and back. It was then that he felt the pressure build around him. I'm still ten minutes from camp he thought to himself. Looking up he seen Sioc taking flight and shortly after him a mass of brown moving behind him. From this distance it looked as if a hill had decided to follow Sioc. Sioc, please tell me that he is on our side? He mentally laughed but if the massive dragon was not on his side, well it would not be nice way to go.

Yes his name is Rok, we will be with you in a moment and then you can introduce yourselves. Tuorin be careful, Rok has lost a Rider. Sioc replied solemnly

Oh, Yes of course. Tuorin paused at the news. Then he bundled up the dwarf and dragged him into the nearby woods, away from the road. As he conjured a flame, dug and filled a small trench around the encampment with water he began to fill his water skin when Sioc landed behind him. He braced his knees for Sioc, but the Dragon Rok was so big that he still had to grasp a nearby branch to hold onto to steady himself. Tuorin turned and took a moment as the sheer size of the dragon was over-encumbering to try take in at once. Opening his mind slightly Greetings, Rok-elda.

OOC:
Mind if I pop in with Jia? Sarai might come in too (depending).

IC:
Jia beat her wings rapidly to slow her flight, alerted by the roar of a dragon. It was a male...and it sounded angry. She didn't hear an answering roar, so it wasn't a fight...She turned and listened to the dying echo, then twisted in midair and flew in the direction she believed the dragon to be. With her small body and slightly over-sized wings, she managed to find the source within fifteen minutes. What she saw however was odd. Two male dragons. She tilted her head and narrowed her eyes. One of them had a saddle on its back. She snorted. That was probably the one she had heard. She flapped powerfully and rose into the air, watching them. After a few minutes both dragons took flight and began to fly together in one direction.

Curious, she tilted her wings and followed. Sarai might be fast but she would take a while to catch up, so she had time. Jia blinked when she saw the smaller male land in the trees, then thought that he was probably joining his Rider. The two crescent shaped scars on the left side of her neck twinged, and she scratched at them idly, pondering if she should investigate further or find her daughter. Curiosity got the better of her and she tilted her wings to glide down to the ground.

I feel like a hatchling again. she thought to herself in awe as she gazed upon the gigantic brown male through the trees. She wasn't even that close yet and she could already see him easily. She snorted and padded forward, her scales bristling. The light leather saddlepad on her back rubbed at her hide a bit. She rolled her shoulders to make it shift so it wouldn't thin the scales on her back.

She paused nearby when she knew all three could see her; she wasn't that hard to spot anyways with her gold-outlined-with-amethyst scales. She opened her mind to contact and brushed the two dragons and the twoleg lightly. Eka ach néiat malabra ono haina (I do not mean you harm). she said quietly. She moved forward so that her head and neck were fully in view. I heard you roar and came to make sure everything was alright. she said, speaking to the smaller white dragon with ice-blue markings.

Post Re: A familiar sense of woe
OOC:The more the merrier. So me, Saphirarox up next then you again Dragon that okay?

Tuorin stared in awe at the new arrival. Another Dragon! Well this is getting interesting He said to Sioc.Extending his mind to the newcomer he greeted her but as he started to do so the dwarf began to move. Em excuses me a moment, I will allow Sioc to introduce ourselves, I've to just deal with this little blight Tuorin then lifted the dwarf up into a sitting position against a tree and offered him water.

Sioc gazed in wonder at the new dragon, it has been a long time since he had spent any length of time with more of his kind than young Umbra Maybe we should call our little apprentices here Tuorin? I would like for little Umbra to meet this Rok. He would not think me so old then. Mhmmm Maybe it would do them good, we'll see Sioc smiled, he had a great fondness for the Dragon and Rider he and Tuorin were currently training. Greetings Bjartskular, I am Sioc and this curious little two-legs is Tuorin my bonded Rider. It was me you heard, I was fooled into thinking my Rider had passed, a strange event indeed if you know of the bond between a Rider and Dragon. An event that this stone-lover will shortly help to tell us a little of the riddle. Sioc drank a small bit of water from Tuorin's trench Ugh you're summoned water always has a tang of metal. Could you not just pull it up from the ground Sioc turned to face Tuorin but he was distracted composing spells of truth and vision with the dwarf Nevermind though Sioc

Tuorin began asking the dwarf questions but the stubborn fool was so shocked at the sight of the three dragons he just stared mouth gaping from one to the next and back to the first. "Right so, time to do this the old fashion way" Tuorin announced, he never like talking with his mind to dragons he didn't know too well. He felt like he could trust Rok as a once bonded Dragon, but this new companion was a wild born of that he was sure, Damn you Sid, I can never trust another because of you and Emerald. With that bitter taste in his mouth Tuorin began to break through the dwarves mind. After a few moments with no progress he turned to Sioc Sioc is it just me or is this dwarf particularly good at defending himself? The dwarf was in pain, dazed and groggy, surely he should amount such a defense Check him for a protection amulet or suchTuorin quickly patted down the captive and found an unusual bracelet made of a strange dark green metal with a single orange gem set in it.This time he found no resistance from the dwarf. Sioc look at this. No reply. Sioc Again nothing "Oi have you cotton in your brain!" Tuorin yelled

Sioc turned quickly, surprised by Tuorin's outburst What is.... Tuorin was blocking him. Sioc's eyes narrowed in on the bracelet in Tuorin's hand. He quickly jabbed out a claw and knocked it from his hand. Instantly Tuorin was there again.

What was that? Then it clicked, the bracelet had been blocking him. "OH... Sorry". Gingerly picking the bracelet up in a piece of cloth Tuorin entered the man's mind as stealthy as he could. "Who gave you this?" he had no expected an answer but the man thought of a face. Blood red hair. Dark crimson eyes with slits for pupils. A wicked smile and a scar across the lip. "NO! NO! IT CAN'T BE. NO!"

Sioc once again pulled his eyes from the lithe female to focus on Tuorin. Just then Tuorin began to scream Little one?! Little one what is wrong Sioc wrapped his tail around his rider as Tuorin turned ashen in colour and his eyes were as wide as shields, the little elf and began to mumble and mutter to himself. Sioc roared, trying to grab his attention. When he glanced at the dwarf's mind he seen a bright yet sinister face Little one what is wrong? Who is this?

Tuorin looked at each of these ancient and beautiful creatures in turn. Even these could not protect him from the wolves tearing at his mind "It's him.... Sioc it's my lover's killer. It's the Shade who I chased across the lands. It is he who took Morwe from me! It's Verkir!"

Realisation slapped Sioc in the face like a tsunami. He roared in frustration and then wrapped his body and mind around Tuorin, trying to calm the elf as he looked at the other dragons, daring them to question his Rider's behaviour.

Post Re: A familiar sense of woe
Rok nodded to Sioc, acknowledging the other dragon's sympathy for what he had lost. He followed the little ice-blue-and-white south, not bothering to speak. He knew words would be needed when they reached Sioc's Rider, and he could feel the bleakness creeping up on him, as it always did when he was reminded of Ur'laya. When it came over him, sometimes he could hardly make himself breathe, let alone speak, so powerful were the memories and grief.

After a few minutes, he spotted a two-leg below, carrying another over it's shoulder. That must be him, he thought to himself, watching how Sioc oriented himself with the figure. Not long after that, the ice-blue-and-white male drifted down and landed near the figure, which Rok could now see was an elf. As he was preparing to land, Rok saw something walking towards them. It sparkled amethyst-and-gold in the light. He narrowed his eyes at the figure. I thought I saw... something... following behind us. I was not sure though. I am Rok, well met little ones, he said, lowering his gigantic head until he was looking the hatchling dragoness straight in the eye.

She has a wild and free spirit, but her heart is bound, you have nothing to fear from her, he said to Tuorin, turning his head to inspect the elf in turn. He breathed deeply, comparing the male Rider's scent to what he remembered Ur'laya's being. He smelled of dragons and leather, the various places he had been recently, with a hint of the pine needles that permeated the air around most elves. He turned his head away, his eyes going blank as he recalled how Ur'laya had smelled of oranges, her favorite fruit.

The world around him was going fuzzy, and he had almost succumbed to the fog gripping his mind, when Sioc's roar once again startled him. The giant brown jerked back, hissing, his eyes wide and confused as he came back to the present. For a moment he didn't recognize Sioc or the strange amethyst-gold and he hissed at them, his lips pulling back from fangs almost as long as the dragoness's foreleg. Then he saw how Sioc had pulled Tuorin to his chest, heard the worry and anger in his voice, and he snapped fully back into reality.

He settled his wings back against his body, producing a cessation of whispers and rustles as the scales and the thin membranes folded in. The brown settled back on his haunches, his forepaws ripping into the earth and the scales on his back lifting a few inches as he struggled to contain the last of his shock and fighting instinct. What happened? he asked tightly, clenching his molten orange eyes shut.

Jia snorted softly and dipped her head in respect. A great pleasure to meet you, Rok. I am Johdzsia, Bonded to Rider Kale. she said softly, blinking her teal-green eyes at him. She swung her head around and gazed at the younger Pair patiently, nodding to Sioc as he introduced them. Indeed, I do understand. I myself have experienced the emptiness of being alone. her throat closed at the mere memory and she shook her head to clear it away. Her eyes snapped open wide when Tuorin literally screamed with what could have been anguish. Her eyes instantly lit with green-gold light and she scanned the area for danger. Finding nothing she looked to the dwarf, which Tuorin had been inspecting mentally before reacting. She stopped and glanced at Rok when the giant brown hissed, then twitched her tail and ignored him. She looked directly at the dwarf and pulled the image up. It resembled a Shade, but that didn't give her much information. Cautiously, she glanced at Sioc, since Tuorin was so well hidden in the white-ice-blue male's circle that she couldn't even see him. Her eyes narrowed when she caught the thought 'Killed my lover' among the tangle of Sioc and Tuorin's combined mind. She instantly pulled out once she had that, so she wasn't intruding on other more personal thoughts between the two. She snorted and sat on her haunches. She looked to Rok and showed the image, as well as what she had heard from Sioc's mind, to the giant brown privately. This is all I could discern, Rok-elda. she had no question that he was far older than her and deserved respect.

Sioc held on to Tuorin and waited, just sitting there being the rock that his Rider needed. After a few precious moments when he was sure Tuorin wouldn't lose control over his powers and when his breathing had returned back to normal Sioc lay the elf down gently Rest little one, I shall protect you. He strolled over to the other dragons The image was disturbing for my Rider, see even ere I had hatched Tuorin loved a female elf called Morwe and she was slain by a fellow two-legs who grew jealous of Tuorin and Morwe's happiness. Many days later Tuorin found that elf in the deepest parts of Du Weldenvarden but...

He had given himself over to the spirits. Tuorin and walked over and placed his hand on Sioc's foreleg. I am sorry you had to witness that. It still pains me to have lost her. But yes the elf I once held as close as family had betrayed me and is now known as Verkir, a Shade whom I believed I had killed long ago. Tuorin pinched his nose as he often did when deep in thought. He began to walk closer to the other two dragons Sioc please contact Umbra and tell him and Kylar to stay on the island. I don't want Verkir to know about them Turning towards Johdzsia he contacted her first, yet left his mind open for Rok, A great honour to meet you Johdzsia, you say you are a bonded Dragon Yes? Well I will help you find what you need to in the mountains and then you must leave now he looked Rok in the eye and Rok-elda I have no doubts as to your power and strength but Shades are an abomination and a threat to all races so please if you would go somewhere you feel safe that would be best, if the knowledge you had was lost it would be a great tragedy to the world. And if you could stop on Uden and please teach our little apprentices some of it, well it would be a great gift for them Tuorin bowed to each dragon in turn, then he walked back and dragging Narce for his back sheathe he lopped the dwarf's head off in one stroke. Sioc, this is one adventure I do not mind you leaving me on. This is my battle and I will not drag any more into it. It is just too dangerous

Sioc looked at his Rider and blinked heavily Little one do you really take me to be a coward? No well then stop this non sense, I will contact the students and tell them to stay, and then I will try reach Fenor, we need allies Tuorin, a Shade is no easy feat and you can not do it alone.

Tuorin sighed and rubbed his thumb along the blade of his axe. Morwe, Himlan and now my Dragon and cousin, will you not be content until you have stripped me of everything? he though to himself. Yes you are right, even a Rider, even I need help from time to time A ghost of a smile reached his lips. And Sioc returned the gesture

It will be dangerous

I know

Slim chance of success

I know

Almost certain death

I know!

I'm just making sure you do. So let us go catch a Shade. Brother? Sister? Will you lend us your strength and wisdom? Sioc turned to face the Dragons to await their reply

Post Re: A familiar sense of woe
The brown male eventually calmed himself with a meditation technique he had often observed- He cut the thought off short, then turned to watch Sioc and Tuorin as he studied the thoughts and images Johdzsia had siphoned from their minds. Hmmm.... An elf-two-leg turned Shade. That is very unusual. Not only because of an elf's inherent strength to start with, but because they so rarely make mistakes in the ancient language, and Shades are created by the spirits finding flaws in their bonds, then turning upon their masters. This one will be a tough enemy to defeat, he said gravely, speaking only to the amethyst-gold so that Sioc and Tuorin could speak privately.

Rok watched Sioc approach, listening as the dragon told them the tale of Tuorin's doomed lover and the jealous friend. Before he could finish, Tuorin joined them and completed the story. I'm sorry for your loss. Betrayal from a brother is never easy, he said, humming softly and nudging him gently with his snout. He pulled away and settled back on his haunches again, listening to Tuorin speak with Johdzsia. When the Rider turned to him and begged him to leave as well, the brown snorted and looked away.

I am not so easy to scare away. As you very well know, there are precautions I can take that will ensure my knowledge does not pass from this world. I will not do it at the moment, however. It does not feel right, I do not feel that my time in this body is coming to an end. I will join you, and you will not stop me. There may even come a time that you might be grateful that someone with my wisdom joins you on this quest. And when it is all said and done, I would like to meet these students of yours, he said to the Rider, though he allowed the others to hear his words.

In short, I will of course help you, wing-brother, he said to Sioc, dipping his head slightly. It was a gesture that acknowledged the white-blue as hunt-leader, even though Rok was many centuries his senior.

Jia eyed Rok as he spoke to her. Indeed. Rare, but not impossible. snorted and her eyes narrowed as Tuorin attempted to urge her to find what she was after and then go. Her tail twitched. I am not a mouse to scurry and hide at the slightest danger, Tuorin. My Rider and I have faced many horrors in the year we have been bonded. she said, her gold-lined-amethyst scales along her neck bristling. She blinked at Sioc as he asked if she and Rok would accompany them. I don't know about wisdom, but I can lend my strength. Of course I will come with you, wing-brother. she said. She snorted and stood, shaking her wings partway open. Would you mind waiting for my daughter, however? She would hate if I left her behind. And don't worry about her coming along...she can take care of herself. she said. She reached her mind out and found Sarai was actually quite close. She sent the black-gold a flick against her mind to tell her where she was. Sarai acknowledged it and shifted directions. My daughter, Sarai, will be here momentarily. she informed the others.

Sioc's chest swelled with pride as Rok gave him the lead, We know of your ways but we would rather you were not forced into such a thing Sioc bowed graciously and his Rider followed. Jia of course we will wait for your daughter. I hope she was not guessing too much trouble in this regions, although stealth will be impossible with four dragons I'd rather a small bit of secrecy than none at all Him and Tuorin bowed again. Little one shall I contact Rima and Fenor?

Tuorin stared at these magnificent beasts, they barely knew him and yet they would help him fight these demons, the thought gave him strength and hope. Tuorin snapped back into reality and bowed to each thankful for what they would help him achieve. Yes, yes of course find out where he is and if he can make it within the next two days. And ask him to spread the word to any others who might help. Tuorin looked at the hunched corpse of the dwarf. That was a little rash of me... He began to move the body out of the clearing as Sioc searched the land quickly for the sense of Rima's mind, thankful the mysterious hound burnt so bright it was never hard to locate her. Do either of you know anyone who could help, I know a little of Shade's but not enough to actually try to tackle them, even had I enough time to learn it all I wish I wouldn't have to. Now would be the best time to gain allies before we set of to accomplish such a feat of strength. Tuorin gazed deeply at teh elder dragon, hoping maybe this one knew something of Shades that would help him rid the world of this evil.

Sioc found Rima in moments and opened his mind to her. RIMA! You lazy hound wake up! He knew she would scorn him for that, but the little furry four legs was fun to annoy. Rima, get Fenor and meet us here He set her a mental image of a cave near the lake not far from the clearing they were currently at. We need you. More so then ever before. Sioc left her without a reply, he knew they would come. Blood is thicker than water after all.

Post Re: A familiar sense of woe
Rok stifled a laugh and looked at the ground so that Johdzsia wouldn't see his grin when she fiercely defended her right to join the party. We are well met, youngling, he said to her, respect warming his thoughts. It pleased him to meet a young dragon so full of spice and determination. When she mentioned her daughter, he cocked his head, his eyes narrowing. Another hatchling? But... When I returned to Vroengard and the lands beyond, I was led to believe there were no more eggs, he said. He pulled his chin to his chest and drummed his talons against the ground.

After a moment of thought he looked up and allowed the others to see his twinkling eyes. The foolishness of the old. I should have guessed as soon as I saw you, Johdzsia, that all was not as it seemed, he said, shaking his head in exasperation. Now that he was not ignoring the obvious, it was clear from her size that the amethyst-gold was no more than a few years old, too young to have hatched before the Fall.

He noticed Sioc's obvious pride at being leader, but was even more impressed when he didn't flaunt the new position. There are very few ways by which I can be forced into anything, and the Pair of you are too true to try any of them. My thoughts are my own, and I appreciate the gesture, he said to the white-blue. I'm sorry, any who I used to know that could help, are gone, curse Galbatorix for his crimes. Since I don't know anything about this particular Shade though, I can only assume he can be killed the usual way. If he has any powers out of the norm, then it will be more difficult. What can you tell us of his abilities? he said to Tuorin.

Post Re: A familiar sense of woe
Jia tilted her head at Rok as he looked to the ground, curious, but didn't question what he was doing. When she heard his rumbling mental voice she smiled a bit and dipped her head to him, her teal-green eyes twinkling. At his questioning tone she grinned and let him figure it out. My little Sarai could be right under your nose and I doubt you would notice. she said with a joking snort. She winked at Rok. Hardly foolish, Rok-elda. In today's age, things are much different. she admitted, a little sadly. She glanced up when she heard the thuds of Sarai's running approach, then looked at both dragons anxiously. The only reason Sarai was even conceived is because I was captured and brought to Uru'baen. she murmured to Rok, Sioc, and Tuorin. A few moments went by, then the breathing of a dragon rasped in hearing and then came loping into sight. If the black-gold was any other creature, she probably would have been sweating bullets. Sarai skidded to a halt beside Jia and then stood with her head low, tail limp, and wings sagging, panting slowly for breath with her jaws parted. The gold-amethyst snorted at her daughter. Didn't I tell you not to run yourself ragged young lady? she scolded lightly. Sarai gave her a reproachful look, still panting. Once I felt the minds of two dragons and a Rider? Hardly. Like I would miss the chance to meet another Rider, another dragon outside of my family, and yet another dragon that could easily be larger than my father. she snorted and drew herself upright, having caught her breath.

- - - - - - - - - -

Sarai grinned at the three before her, her scales prickling with curiosity. She dipped her head slightly to each, her lavender-flecked-with-grey eyes bright with delight. I am Sarai Súndavfodhr (Shadowmarked), by the way, daughter of Jia Kuldrskular (Goldscales) and Shruikan Súndavblaka (Shadowwing). Pleased to meet the both of you. out of habit she added, Eka weohnata néiat haina ono un ach néiat lyst ono vandr (I will not harm you and do not wish you ill). She shook her wings and blinked as she waited for a returned response.

Tuorin stared open mouth at the new comer Sioc did she just say what I think she said?

Little one stop gaping like a fish and say hello, we both know heritage has no effect on the type of person someone can be think of Emerald. Sioc glared at his Rider until Tuorin shook his head and bowed to the muscular little dragon. You have a curious parentage Sarai, I expect you to accomplish great things He nodded slightly to Sarai. Well this gathering is certain to attract some attention He said to himself. Tuorin tell them what you know I am going to scan the nearby area for any scent under that dwarf and the things of nature that reside here. Sioc nodded to each Dragon and spread his wings ready to launch into the air as a mind more ancient and more vast than any other That mind could belong to only one person in this world He grinned Evening Sioc, me and Fenor are closer than you thought we can make it to the cave by dawn tomorrow if you still need our help? Sioc could feel the speaker smiling through the link Help is always welcome little one She growled within his mind and all those around him Careful lizard Tuorin your cousin will arrive in a few hours, I'll scout the area and then pick you up on the way to the caves.

Tuorin was walking over to Rok to discuss tactics when he felt Rima and heard her growl Sioc please don't irritate her, you know how she is. He patted his partners foreleg as the Dragon took off And heed her warning, I'm not going to kiss you better if you stick your nose in the wrong hole. He watch sombrely as Sioc glinted over the forest Rok I am honestly scared like never before, and I faced the Forsworn before I was finished my education He turned up to the massive dragon and realised that he would never be whole without Sioc. He took a deep breath and shook himself once more. As far as I thought Verkir was a normal Shade but I have certain abilities with that he picked up a stone and shaped it into a bowl, within the bowl he conjured flame and water and the danced in a spiral being spun by the winds. All the elements in perfect harmony. I can control the elements, without the use of magic or the Ancient Language. It was the night I fought he, just before I found Sioc that I discovered these powers. I set a flame in his chest and washed him out to sea and yet here he is, haunting me again

Rok frowned at Johdzsia for a moment, then sighed and nodded in agreement. Sadly, you are right. I am pleased to meet at least two hatchlings though, it means our race is not as finished as everyone seems to think, he said to her, his voice brightening by the end. His eyes narrowed dangerously when she said that if she hadn't been captured, Sarai would not have been concieved. Rok could feel a dangerous growl building up in his chest, but he restrained it, waiting and hoping that he was jumping to the wrong conclusion.

Before long, a black-and-gold shaped thundered out of the trees, her whole body slumped with exhaustion as she slid to a stop beside her mother, panting heavily. After a moment she looked up and grinned at Rok and the others. Despite the storm raging in his mind, Rok couldn't help but smile back. He lowered his head until it was only a few feet from the little hatchling, close enough to see that his head was bigger than her whole body. Hello Sarai Sundavfodhr, I am Rok. If you are anything like your mother, then we are well met, he said, chuckling warmly.

In the back of his mind he was tearing Shruikan to shreds and searing his black flesh with flames, but he allowed none of that to color the part of his mind that was speaking with Sarai. She could not help the circumstances of her birth, and she seemed just fine in spite of it. He huffed a bit of smoke at her and then drew his head back to converse with Tuorin, who had come to stand beside him when Sioc had flown away.

Rok looked at the little two-leg knowingly. He could see the fear for his partner in the man's eyes as he watched Sioc flying over the treetops. He listened to Tuorin's words and was silent for a moment before he spoke, watching the dancing pillar of fire and water he had conjured in his palm. You say you stabbed him in the chest with fire? So far as I know, the only way that will work is if the fire is encircling a steel blade. Burning his heart like that may have made it more difficult for him to reform, but it wouldn't kill him completely. A Shade can only be truly killed by a thrust to their black heart, the brown said pensively, looking at the Rider with one eye. Do not worry, we will come up with something and keep them all safe, he said gently, brushing his arm lightly with his wingtip.

Jia nodded to Rok in agreement but did not speak. When she saw the expression on Rok and Tuorin's faces, she was tensed and ready to grab her daughter and flee should they attack. But they did not. She relaxed a tiny bit as Sarai cheerfully greeted them, and Rok returned the greeting in kind, as did Sioc and Tuorin. She snorted softly and sat back on her haunches, still tensed to spring and defend if she had to. She raised at eyebrow at the growl she heard from didn't comment, though a slight smirk pulled at the corners of her muzzle. She watched with interest as Tuorin summoned a small spiral of water and fire in his hand.

- - - - - - - - - -

Sarai prummed as Tuorin spoke to her first. She tilted her head at his choice in words, pondering them for a moment to see if he was being sarcastic (because of her father), or serious. She decided he was serious, and so smiled warmly, her eyes twinkling. I thank you for that. she didn't think she had to add that not many people had called her parentage 'curious', most of them had simply called it a curse. Sarai gazed up at Rox steadily, her eyes somber. Though she could not see physically, and some called her blind for it, she could see things most others could not. She crooned gently in her throat and dipped her head to the giant brown. A great pleasure to meet one as wise as yourself, and I thank you. she said, raising her head. She perked up at the sound of the growl, but then shrugged. She followed Tuorin's movement over to Rok, sympathizing with him as she read his body language. She skittered away and hissed softly when she felt something stir in the palm of his hand, but of course she could not see it. She snorted reproachfully. Warn me next time you do something like that...I can't see it. I was hatched blind but still with the power to know where I am, but I can't see magic or the elements. she said, eying his hand a little warily.

Sioc tilted his wings slightly to encumber the winds rising of off the mountains slant. He drifted for a moment and then quickly rose towards the clouds as he spotted movement. Flying in a spiral as a hawk would high among the clouds Sioc watched as a caravan of Dwarves, Humans and Urgals moved into an old abandoned watch-point of the elves. Urgals and Humans? This is not right they shouldn't be this deep into the mountains. Even with a Dwarf escort. Finding a downward draft Sioc landed on the closest mountain edge he could find and focused in on the old ring of rock and iron. As he watched he noticed the group working quickly to repair the gates and then he realised their was no markings No war paint on the Urgals and the Dwarves are wearing clothing without their insignia! Surely this is a force of rebels? And there, at the top of the watch tower was the Shade. Sioc's blood began to boil, his claws extended to full length and a roar began to swell in his chest Hurt my little one, you shall be skinned alive two legs, and then I will claw your evil heart from your chest Sioc clawed around to the other side of the mountain before he took off going towards the lake

I apologise Sarai, I did not mean to startle you Tuorin stopped the spiral and quenched the flame. A blade I will have on hand this time and I shall cut his heart out with my hands if the sword fails me. Tuorin's anger was reaching a dangerous point as his body temperature began to raise. Sitting and closing his eyes he started taking deep breaths. Still have anger issues I see. Really cousin, after all this time you need to smile more. You'll get worry lines Tuorin froze FENOR! How long it has been. You must be close indeed, unless you've been practising? Are you going to be here soon? I am currently scaling the very mountain Sioc pointed out, I should reach the cave before sunset, Unless of course you'd rather give me and Rima a lift? When Sioc returns we will set out immediately Tuorin stood up and began preparing his stuff "My cousin just reached the mountain, when Sioc gets back we mean to set out and meet him there you can are more than welcome but Rok I doubt you will fit in the cave with all of us, luckily it has a clef outside that will fit us all". Tuorin then began to look towards the skies, Sioc was getting closer

Sioc felt his Rider's excitement as he tucked his wings in and began his descent Are you ready to move out? I'll share what I've seen once we are all gathered, I hate repeating myself

Rok looked from Tuorin's palm to Sarai's lavender-grey eyes, bending his neck again to peer into the glittering irises. No, I don't believe you can, can you? And yet I never would have guessed, you move around so well, even in unfamiliar landscapes. You are a powerful little hatchling, young one. I shan't be surprised if we haven't seen the full extent of your powers, he said warmly. He didn't know why, but Sarai reminded him of one of his grand-hatchlings who had died in the Fall.

I will never hurt her, Johdzsia, you can relax. I do not make a habit of killing the young because of the evil their fathers committed. Nor do I think Tuorin does, he said privately to the worried mother.

That I should like to see, Rok said to Tuorin, chuckling darkly at the Rider's ferociousness. His head snapped around and he eyed the Rider when he felt a sudden rise in the heat to his side. Before he could figure out what was going on, he smelled Tuorin's surprise, and then the male two-leg was announcing the arrival of his cousin.

That sounds fine, now excuse me while I go find a ledge to take off from. Big as I am, things tend to get broken when I take off straight from the ground, the brown said, walking off. He barely looked up when he heard Sioc's wings rushing through the air. Rok looked over his shoulder when the white-ice-blue dragon spoke, then looked forward again and picked up the pace.

Within a few moments he found a sufficient cliff partway up one of the mountains and started to climb the cliff-face to reach it. Normally he would have walked until he reached it's pinnacle, but they were in a hurry and he wanted to hear what Sioc had to say. When he had clambered onto the top, he turned and threw himself out into open space. With a few thunderous flaps of his wings, he climbed into the sky. He could see the others below him and circled lazily, barely moving his wings to diminish as much noise his passing would cause as possible.

Sarai snorted quietly at Tuorin and smiled. Nah, it's fine, it just caught me by surprise is all. she turned her head and looked into Rok's eye that peered down at her. She wished that she could see the color of his iris. But her abilities were limited to shapes, weight, and other, physical things that she could sense. She tilted her head at Rok and smiled at him as well. I'm as blind as a bat, so to speak, but I can still see clear as day. Better than some that can see with their eyes, some times. And I thank you. Most people think my abilities are a hindrance. It's kind of nice to hear them being praised for once. she said, her tail weaving from side to side. At the announcement to get ready to depart, she darted over to her mother and bunched her muscles, leaping straight from the ground onto Jia's back, where she settled into the saddle and held on with her little claws. Sounds good for us, too. said the gold-amethyst dragoness. Jia crouched and launched into the air, staying a little lower than Rok as she circled. Sarai grumbled in her chest and clenched her talons tighter; she almost hated flying, since she truly was blind in the air.

Post Re: A familiar sense of woe
Sioc tensed his legs as the ground underneath shook from his landing. He gazed at his parter-in-all as Tuorin began to tighten the bags on his saddle. Tuorin, the Shade is here. Are you clear minded? or has anger caused a maelstrom within your conscience? He bent his foreleg forward as Tuorin climbed onto into the leather seat and fastened his legs into place.

I'll survive. You'll see to that. Tuorin patted Sioc's large neck and opened his mind even more to the Dragon. I am both clear and pained, anger drives me as much as the knowledge that as a Rider it falls upon me to rid the world of this abomination. Now come fly on before Rima gets anger at us for being late.

Sioc allowed himself to grin and bunched his muscle in eagerness of take off. He launched thirty foot into the air and unfurled his wings as the caught a timely up-draft. The others were ahead of him and he did not try to over take them. They knew the way from his mind. Little one, why did you never mention this villain before. I would have hunted him down for causing you such grief and harm.

Tuorin sighed into the wind. Because, I honestly believed he had perished in that fight the night before I found your egg. And it was never a memory I liked to revisit. Tuorin's mind flashed through those dreadful moments of battle with Verkir and for the first time shared them with his Dragon. He felt Sioc growling deep within his chest. Calm yourself. There will be time enough later. The cliff side was coming into sight now. And less then a third of the way up was an Elf waving towards the Dragons. Pick him up will you. He looks like a fool flailing his arms about like that. Tuorin smiled at his carefree cousin, they're visits were too few and too far apart for both of their likings. Sioc grabbed both Fenor and Rima in his front claws as he began to rise towards the cleft.

HEY HEY HEY! Watch it! Don't drop me.

Agreed!

Sioc released a jet of steam from his nostrils Oh ssssssh and do not squirm. He landed on his hind legs while Fenor and Rima jumped out of the danger zone. When they were clear he fell forward and covered them in steam. Tuorin was already out of his saddle and flinging himself towards the newcomers.

Ooofff! Fenor quickly embraced his cousin back "Watch it okay. I was just man handle, well Dragon-handle but you get my point." Fenor and Tuorin the grasped each others forearms. "It has been too long Tuorin Vor." Tuorin just nodded. Fenor then patted Sioc's nose and looked into his big icy white eyes. I hope you have been looking after him with that he placed his head to Sioc's. Fenor slowed turned about to greet the other Dragons. Tuorin you travel in modest company lately you know that Quit the sarcasm or one of them will be using you as a chew toy..... It is a great honour to be in your company Rok-Elda, Johdzsia Bjartskular and Sarai Fricai He bowed to each in turn as he said their names.

Rima opened her mind to the Dragons in turn and also greeted them Indeed it is a great pleasure to know that the Dragons are still a force to be reckoned with, I would have missed your race otherwise.

Sioc waited for the greetings to be finished and then stepped forward to recount what he had seen. He made it brief and finished quickly. So as you can see they have a place to run and hide if we attack. Of course the outpost would fall quickly to any of us but there is more than likely some underground rooms that it would take us precious moments to reach with tooth and claw. Sioc knew if it was a normal plot he would trust Tuorin, Fenor and Rima to deal with the cowards below ground while him and the dragons killed the foot soldiers. But the Shade threw everything off balance. And he had no idea how many men there was in total. I'd say about a group close to fifty fighters, at least 6 magicians and the Shade. A snack for the for likes Rok but a Shade is a wild card.

Post Re: A familiar sense of woe
Rok smiled at Sarai, he could see the hatchling's unease at being in the air, even if she wasn't sharing it. If you don't mind, allow me, he said, overlapping his vision where hers should be. He glided along silently, keeping his thoughts to himself so that Sarai might enjoy the view in quiet. Before long, Sioc was diving down to catch a man and a dog in his foreclaws, then landing again when they both loudly protested the rough treatment. Rok snorted in amusement, then increased the tempo of his wings to gain more height before he tried to circle in place to wait for the pleasantries to end.

Greetings, Fenor and Rima, he said quietly, tilting into his circle. He listened closely to what Sioc had to say, thinking carefully about different courses of action they could take. Fenor, how capable would you say you are of helping Tuorin and Sioc with their mission? If you are confident enough, then I would tentatively suggest that perhaps Sarai, Johdzsia and myself take on the pawns, while the four of you head straight for the king. If he flees underground, I most certainly wouldn't be of a help. If we succeed, Johdzsia and her daughter should join you in the hunt, for which Sarai would be most helpful. I wouldn't want to send her in there unless there was another choice though, so if it comes to it, one of you should contact us. This is only a suggestion though, as hunt-leader, I tip my crest to Sioc, the old dragon said, dipping his head so that the first bony spike at the base of his skull was showing to the younger white-blue.

Post Re: A familiar sense of woe
Sarai looked over at Rok in surprise when she felt his mind overlap hers, and therefore his vision. She blinked and gazed around in silent wonder at the scenery, the mountains, the trees. They were more than just shapes and detail, they were color and life and beauty. It took her breath away. She laid down on her mothers back and simply watched, content. She barely noticed when her mother landed, except she didn't feel the wind on her scales anymore. She hopped down to the ground, bending her knees to brace for the impact. She snorted softly at the arrival of the two, tilting her head as she studied them. She dipped her head to them in greeting. A pleaure, Fenor, Rima. she murmured. Jia rumbled deep in her chest in welcome. Sarai turned to Sioc as he spoke and listened with interest. She thought for a moment, her tail twitching in response when Rok spoke her name. She raised her head and then nodded, weaving her tial back and forth. Yes, I would be. she wasn't boasting or bragging, though some humans of the Varden might think so. She was simply agreeing with his statement that she could help. She looked over at Fenor and Rima, her lavender-flecked-grey eyes sparkling. I can sense anything physical near me as long it is touching the ground. even it if is holding completely still, I can still sense it. It's hard to explain, but it's natural for me. she sat, sitting back on her haunches. She raised a paw and licked her talons to clean them.

- - - - - - - - - -

Jia snorted softly. I would suggest something, but I do not know the enemy as well. However, if we do have need of it, I have the ability to change into a human form, or any form, really. If we need it, it is accessible. she offered, nudging her daughter's shoulder and rumbling softly. She sighed and looked up. I don't like my daughter being included...But she is here, and has abilities we can use, so we should take advantage of that. she said slowly. Sarai glanced at her and smiled, her eyes warm. Jia huffed but smiled a little bit back.
