I get my bad teeth from my dad. My actual teeth are ok, but I get cavities easily, and needed a brace. I get my brace off the week after christmas! YAY! Right now, I have little elastic bands which attach my top teeth to my bottom ones to re-align my jaw of something  It's really hard to eat- I can barely open my mouth, and the bands keep snapping, so I have to replace them lol.

You mean a retainer? Yeah, I'm getting one on Monday, but at least you can take it out. And now my teeth feel unnaturally smooth because of the painful scrapey polisher thing. Painful, but smooth... lol.

Usually after you've had a brace, your teeth like to move back to where they were originally, so you usually have to wear a retainer at nights to stop them moving again during the day.

Anyone ever had braces and tried to play a saxophone? My dentist "highly suggests" braces, but I don't want to give up my last resort music scholarship :/

I know someone who did that, you can get these special strips of wax, which stops your brace interfering with the instrument. Ask the orthodontist, I had some to stop it rubbing at the back when I first got it. In the long term, nice teeth is well worth it, if sometimes painful and annoying during the braces stage lol.

Cool. The other thing I was thinking about was those Invisiline(sp?) things that fit over your teeth. I strongly doubt that I would even notice when I was playing. The setback here is how long it would take to pursuade my mom. Those things are really expensive, or so I hear.

Yeah, if he can take it out, then it's a retainer. I'm getting a clear plastic retainer instead of a metal band for some reason, it looks like this: http://www.drleslee.com/images/content_ ... salign.jpg
http://www.gotsmiles.net/images/aligner.jpg

which might actually be called the invisalign. I think maybe they are called aligners in America instead of retainers like here- not sure. Anyway, orthodontic care on the NHS is free for children and teenagers, so I get my "invisible" retainer for free.

Osthato Chetowa: If you got a brace, the invisalign probably wouldn't fit over that, and if you didn't have a brace, there would be no point at all in getting an invisalign. They are only really used after your fixed brace. I know you can get special wax/mouth-guards for people who play instruments anyway, which go over the brace so it doesn't interfere :D

The clear alternative to braces.
Image

Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners that are custom-molded to fit you. The virtually invisible aligners gradually reposition your teeth into a smile you'll be proud of.

Remove your aligners to eat, brush and floss
Change aligners every two weeks
Your teeth move little by little
Regular progress checks with your dentist or orthodontist
Results often in 6 months to 1 year

Why people prefer Invisalign
The convenience and ease of use of the Invisalign system have made it the choice of over half a million people. In fact, Invisalign has been effective in giving hundreds of thousands of people amazing new smiles.

Most people won't notice you're in treatment
Won't disrupt your lifestyle
Free initial consultation with participating doctors

No metal wires or bands to irritate your mouth, and best of all, most people won't notice you're in treatment. Invisalign®, the clear alternative to braces, has been chosen by over 500,000 people who want amazing smiles.

lol, ok, they must be a lot tighter than they are here then. And they aren't actually invisible, my friend had some- it looked like she was wearing dentures lol, you know that clear plastic you get in packaging? It looks like you've got a piece of that wrapped round your teeth lol- yeah, I have to get them too  . Anyway, your teeth can't be that bad if you're planning on getting invisalign instead of traintracks (fixed braces), hope it turns out for the best if you decide to get the treatment/retainer :D

I just had a tooth extracted, so that my teeths can move more. It is so nice when your dad is a dentist, because he was the one that did it and he anastatise the place even more then normally so it didn't hurt for at least 5 hours

I still have mines on, but I think I know since I had it on the tooth that was removed.

1. Remove elastics
2. Remove wire
3. Remove metal piece from tooth " I didn't even knew that he had removed it, painless"
4. polish tooth to remove glue "lots of dust, don't breath in, it's nasty"

5. I there's something else I don't know

Yeah!! It makes your teeth feel slimy!! lol, I though I was the only one who got that feeling. I think it's because they polish the glue off, that it make you teeth feel so smooth it's slippery. lol. And I found that having the actual brace pulled off wasn't too bad- it happened really quickly, and like Louis said, if you have those metal rings round your back teeth, you don't feel them being pulled off at all, it's painless. The polishing is the worst bit, you get dust from the glue and enamel all down your throat and over your face lol. That's the only bit that hurts a little. And it did feel weird without them on for a while, but I've got used to it now.

Also Shade, brushing doesn't stop your teeth being wonky lol. Of course we brush! I hope... And it's not that more people need braces than they used to, they've just become more widely available, so more orthodontists can give them to people who need it now.

They're stuck on with a really strong kind of glue lol, if they were set into your teeth, there would be big holes there when they got taken off

Ugh... I'm not getting mine until 9th grade at the earliest, and then I'll have them for at least 3 years after that...

I have a HUGE overbite, and my teeth are way out of place, since I had an assist around one tooth and they had to pull it out before it ever came in, and then I had four more teeth pulled because they wouldn't come out to let the other teeth in. So, the other teeth have moved in to fill the gap, and are all crooked. And my top two front teeth overlap a little... lol I have as many problems with my mouth as my dad... stupid genes...

I have to have braces on for OVER three years! I hate it! At least one year is finally over, but now I have rubber bands and I have to wear headgear at night to realign my jaw.

Spacers only hurt before and after they put them in.

Ok, maybe I'll force them in every once in a while, but I can assure you I will definitely not be wearing that thing every night for another 60 odd decades!

614 years old, Firetongue???? I'm sure if you lived that long you would've killed yourself.

lol- I'm tired and make too many typos. My spell check will change my words, but won't check what numbers I mean!!! Ok, change that to 6 decades... I think I would be horribly depressed after 600 years of living.

Then my question remains... Why don't you want to live past 74?

lol, you know that song by Robbie Williams, I hope I'm old before I die? My feeling on that is I hope I die before I'm old  Getting to even 80 would be horrible- you wouldn't be able to do much, you probably wouldn't be able to live by yourself, and you'd have the old people smell by then! rofl!
