Post AVATAR: The Legend of Korra
It's coming guys! The long awaited sequel for the famous cartoon series is revealing more and more stuff. I made a topic to discuss this and only this as there is a lot of information appearing about this stuff. . .

First of all the new trailer released during the most recent comiccon.

As you can see, this is looking amazing. The setting, design, and cinematography of the series looks amazing. No wonder why Nickelodeon asked to double the episode number.

For those that do not know what this is, this is set in the same world that Avatar: The Last Airbender took place, but ~75 years after the ending in Sozin's Comet. Aang is, first of all, dead. But his successor for the position of the Avatar is a rebellious, aggressive, teenage female waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe called Korra, who has learned all bending types except airbending. The setting is in a new Earth Kingdom city, called Republic City, and the antagonist is said to be an Anti-Bender revolt. Korra's goal in this series is to stop the Anti-Benders, and learn airbending from Aang's son, Tenzin.

I cannot wait for this to come out in early 2012! From everything that is said, there is a lot going on, and a lot more information strewn throughout the internet. So, is anyone else anticipating this show like I am?

Lol, ok, after watching the trailer, I have to say. The kid at the end, HAS to be related to Sokka.

And I think this is going to be, in some ways, even more epic than the original. I shall wait and see. :)

Oh my gosh that looks AWESOME! I was always wondering when they would come out with a sequel. You had to wonder what Aang and Katara's children would be like and now there's another Avatar but we get to see a female version! That's epic! :D I can't wait to see it! :D

You know I've been meaning to watch the original Avatar series, and now that I have hi-speed I think I'll try and find it. 'Cause this show looks pretty epic, I must say. :)

@Saphirarox
Actually, his name is Bolin. He's an earthbender, and part of the new Team Avatar. He's said to be the main comic relief for the show. His older, taller, and Zuko-esque brother, Mako, is a firebender, and also accompanying Korra. They're actually friends because they're in a professional bender fighting league together.

@Astralwing
Aang and Katara had three children. The youngest of which, and the only bender, is named Tenzin. Korra apparently is learning airbending from him, so he's a master. This is Tenzin:
Image

Tenzin himself has three children, Jinora, Ikki, and Meelo, and is expecting a fourth. All are airbenders. Jinora is the eldest and said to be a bookworm. Meelo, the youngest, (and pardon me here) is freaking ugly, and most likely overactive and annoying according to this picture.

Draco: Yes you should!!! They're super amazing and awesome to watch. I finally got the first two "books" and they're so cool and the creatures are cool too. (Everything is mixed in that world, like Momo the flying bat-like lemar XD )

Brisino: That's awesome! :) At least now we know that the air bending trait will be passed on and will live on. Lol we'll see, but yes he does look a little hyper-active doesn't he?

Astralwing: Indeed. However Airbending is still endangered. Tenzin is the last master of the art.

And yes, the animals do tend to be mixed up. Korra even is riding a mix between a polar bear and a wolf in place of Aang's Appa. There's also a Momo replacement in the new series. A mix between a red panda and a ferret that they call a Fire Ferret.

@Draco
Yes, I agree, you should. I have the entire series on DVD because I loved it so much.

Also, in case you're wondering, here's some pictures of Mako and Bolin, Korra's companions in the series. They're also brothers that practice different bending styles, which is a first in the series.

Here's a sped up one that's better quality, but it's kind of annoying to watch it faster:

And, here's official news that the show will air in 2012:

YES YES AND YES! I can't wait, although I am said to see Aang go I want to see some more water-bending. I loved the original show and I can't wait to see Korra in action, she looks a lot more aggressive that Aang ever was. Also her animal companion is a Polar Bear/Dalmatian kind of hybrid. I'll miss Appa the most..... YipYip

YES! :D This will be amazing.

Also, I just came across this news sometime ago that at least one of the main characters from the original series will still be alive, and possibly play a part. Who it is, they will not say. My money is on Toph or Zuko.

It definitely makes sense for it to be Toph, because she's the youngest. Plus, if it's Toph, it's almost guaranteed that she'll be Korra's Earthbending teacher. I would guess that Korra has either mastered Waterbending or is very close, so it would be easy to implement Toph in the first season.

By the way, do you happen to remember where you found that news? If it's a site like AvatarSpirit, I'd like to have it bookmarked for reference.

I don't remember where I heard it, I think it was from someone else. (also in the series, Korra is supposed to know water, earth, and firebending, but has yet to learn airbending)

But I just came across something far more stunning.

Here is a site that has not only the opening sequence, but also clips from the the pilot episode that shows metal benders, Korra's training, the future role of the Order of the White Lotus, and even the main character who they said would still be alive.
http://dongbufeng.net/site1/content/view/1205/188/

The music and animation is just simply stunning. . . This is going to be an amazing show. I can definitely feel it. :D

Toph's daughter is leader of a group of bending police in the main city now and also the only other metal bender there is

but I think the surviving member is Katara here's a link to a gif on my blog http://contrarybastard.tumblr.com/post/15907217522/sarafena-x and that does look a lot like her

Ah, yes, you're right Brisineo. It's been too long since I've been in the fandom or looked up stuff about Korra, so I forgot that detail. I'll make sure to take a look at the rest of that stuff when I have the chance. Thanks for the link.

And I agree, Finscealach, I think it's Katara. Mostly because in this picture, the old woman appears to be wearing Katara's necklace.

I really hope the show airs sooner in 2012 rather than later.

A quick Google search turned this up:

(Posted source: http://www.mtvnetworks.be/nl/press/articles/?id=179 )

Since that's a translated quote from overseas, it may very well air in America sooner than it does there. It could very well air this spring or summer in America, but at the latest, it appears to be airing this coming fall.

Katara outlives Aang? That is rather interesting. I'm guessing that Korra has to be the granddaughter of someone or something because it doesn't make sense that Tenzin is so much older than her. Is Korra not in relation to Aang and Katara or is that information not released yet?

I actually cannot wait to see the artwork. It is definitely more advanced than the last series and the whole "the world has been so modernized in only 75 years" is going to be interesting as well.

I thought that the series was based upon that people stopped believing in the avatars not that they were outright revolting but I could be mistaken because I was only told that and haven't looked up these things myself.

Well Aang was no relation to the other Avatar's so no I doubt it, but because Korra is a Southern Water Bender she probably is related to Katara.

And yeah, I like the idea of the bender revolution it adds alot to the citizens of the city

I think you mean KATARA and Aang have three children together.

I don't believe Avatars have any blood relation between each other. It's just the Avatar Spirit reincarnated into a new body.

Yeah if it has to travel between each type of bending then i doubt it, usually benders would have only stayed within their own people so mixed bending children would have been rare

I thought that the series was based upon that people stopped believing in the avatars not that they were outright revolting but I could be mistaken because I was only told that and haven't looked up these things myself.

As Avatar tradition goes, Korra was born around the same time Aang died when he was around his late 70's. His relatively young death was explained to be caused from his time in the iceberg damaging his body. Tenzin was born several decades before Korra, so that is why he is older.

The modernization makes sense if you match the technology of The Last Airbender to the mid 19th century, and placing the tech of Legend of Korra with the early 20th century. However it will still be interesting as to how the advancements influence bending, and how bending in turn influenced the shape of invention.

The antagonistic element of the series is an anti-bending political/terrorist group comprised of angry and/or jealous non-benders who are skilled in conventional weaponry and martial arts like the Kyoshi Warriors, Mai and Ty Lee were. The Avatar is still well known, especially since what Aang had done less than a century ago, (a giant statue of him stands at the bay entrance to Republic City) but Korra lies somewhat in the shadow of Aang and much of the show is about Korra trying to find her own way.

Quote:
Eh. I wonder who got with who then if Korra is no relation to Aang.

Korra's parents are shown in the trailer. They appear to be normal Water Tribe citizens that live in an igloo. The Avatar doesn't normally share blood relations to his/her former lives, so although Korra is from the same part of the world Katara is from, and may even be distantly related, she is not a direct descendant of Aang.

Quote:
Yeah if it has to travel between each type of bending then i doubt it, usually benders would have only stayed within their own people so mixed bending children would have been rare

Interesting you should say that, as the friends that team up with Korra are from a mixed bending family. They are brothers, but one, named Mako, is a fire bender, the other, named Bolin, is an earth bender.

Also, this is an interesting thing that I found. This is the first part of the graphic novel series that will detail what happened between A:tLA and A:LoK. It's called the Promise, and it's actually really good. (It moves a bit fast though, so you may have to pause to read)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rxQjMMe_yw

The only thing that irks me is when Katara and Aang start calling each other pet names. Ugh. Just doesn't fit. :?

Yeah, The Promise is a neat idea. It's good that they're continuing Aang's story, but I also think having Korra as a fresh start is a good direction for the series.

Thanks for that summary, Brisineo. I needed a refresher after such a break from the fandom.

Yes, I believe they're signed on for two seasons of Korra.

It has indeed been a long time since the original show ended. I think it's been, like, four years or so.

The Last Airbender started in 2006 and ended I think somewhere around June 2009. So you're not far off.

Nick is smart for milking out as many episodes as they can. They know the show has only given them positive ratings along with a huge fanbase. They will not drop an opportunity such as this.

It certainly did get crazy around the time of the finale. Hopefully we get that kind of enthusiasm about the new show.

Those are some nice wallpapers. It appears a couple are widescreen, too, which is nice.

Here's some more information about Korra:

http://www.theavatarportal.org/blog/?p=2393

It appears as though the show is called "The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra" instead of "Avatar: The Legend of Korra." Which is a worse title.

On Korra's release date, all we have in "soon," and we know it will be sometime this year.

It also appears we'll be able to learn about Ursa in Korra, and that awful cliffhanger can finally go away.

I think that's an apt summary of the important information.

Actually that's older information. The title was temporarily changed to Last Airbender: Legend of Korra because they were dealing with some copyright issues against the other Avatar movie. But eventually they got through and it was changed back, as you can see in the title sequence clips.

According to a translated international announcement post from Nickelodeon, Korra is scheduled to come out internationally this fall, and it may come out as soon as late spring for the US.

Actually, the graphic novel series set between the events of tLA and LoK is supposed to deal with the story of Zuko's mother, considering that Zuko won't have a role in Korra.

I don't know if you actually looked at the link, but it's from February 9th. That's not really older information. The Nick executive said that what you saw on the leaked clips was "international versioning." The American version appears to be called "The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra," according to a verified Nick executive. The International version of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" was "Avatar: The Legend of Aang," so it makes sense that the international version would use the same title phrasing. We'd hoped that it would be called such in America too, but no such luck. If you can find me a verified link where it says the American version is called "Avatar: The Legend of Korra," believe me, I'll be glad, but until then I'm going to believe what someone from Nick said about the title.

This spring would fit under the timing of "soon."

I'm just telling you what the Nick executive said about the show. He told someone they should watch Korra if they want to find about about Zuko's mother. I have the graphic novel, but I haven't read it yet, so I can't say what goes on in it. However, I can say that a Nick executive said this:

It appears it is, dangit. It still leaves me unsatisfied and I think that there will be quite a few complaints about the name. Curse you James Cameron, curse you.

All the information that I've received about the graphic novel series, which is a lot, tells me that the main story of Zuko finding Ursa will be in there. It may be mentioned in Korra if it is released before the second and third part of the novel series is out, which I think is in May and June.

Also, in the comic, Ozai uses the location of Ursa as a bargaining chip to manipulate Zuko. It only hints more that she will be a part of the whole story.

I know. The movie "Avatar" wasn't even good, and now it took the title of the show away from us. Grrr.

All of that could very well be true. I'm just passing on the information I found to you, which is that it will appear in Korra.

I think I need to get around to reading that comic. *goes to read it*

This spring, guys. It looks like this spring.

Take a look at the description on the Korra forum at Nick.

"With the Hundred Year War long over, benders live harmoniously with non-benders in a bustling steampunk paradise called Republic City. Meanwhile, a bull-headed but incredibly talented 17-year-old Avatar named Korra is growing into her powers in Southern Water country. But how long can the peace really last, and what will happen when Korra escapes to the city and these worlds collide? You'll find out when Korra comes to Nick this Spring, but until then, keep on top of all the Avatar: Legend Of Korra gossip, right here!"

I hope that this is true, and not a cruel slip-up. Since it's from Nick, it's probably real.

Also even more exciting... new trailer! :D We finally get to hear Korra's voice and other cool stuff, check it out

The beginning part with Aang made me sad :( lol and I was kinda hoping Korra would sound more like Katara, but whatever, she still sounds cool

I couldn't get it to buffer passed 24 seconds, but it looked awesome from what I saw. I especially liked the roadster she tossed into the air with earthbending. :) This is certainly going to be interesting. :)

That's cool that we have a trailer. Although it was a bit cheesy, with the voice narrating and all.

It made me sad to see that worse title on an official title card. Bleh.

It looks like it's from the first episode, based on the end of the leaked opening sequence.

Here's another clip that was just recently released: Legend of Korra: The Fire Ferrets Strike Back!

And, this appears to be more proof that Korra is airing this spring. It looks to be from a TV guide. I don't know if it's legitimate, but it gives me more hope for a spring airdate. I just wish we had something official.

I can already tell that this is going to reach meme status very fast.

Those are really good clips. The battle scene sounds similar to a 20's boxing match by the announcer's accent. It only makes me that much more eager to watch it.

Granted it's still not Avatar: The Legend of Korra, but at least it makes more sense now because there obviously is not a single last airbender. Full article here.

Also.. the release date is to come out within the next 2 DAYS?! Exciting stuff, man.

Post Re: AVATAR: The Legend of Korra
This certainly is exciting.

This article tells us that the premiere will be an hour long, and composed to two episodes: "Welcome to Republic City" and "A Leaf in the Wind." It also gives a quick summary of the two episodes, so spoiler alert, obviously:

Spoilers wrote:
In the premiere episode, “Welcome to Republic City,” Korra leaves the safety of her home and travels to bustling Republic City to begin her airbending training. Once there, she is shocked to find a big city full of dangers, including criminal bending gangs and a vocal anti-bending revolution. In episode two, “A Leaf in the Wind,” Korra is living with her airbending teacher Tenzin on Air Temple Island. Frustrated with her inability to master airbending, she turns her attentions to Republic City’s famous Pro-bending Arena. There she befriends two brothers, Mako (David Faustino) and Bolin (P.J. Byrne), who compete in professional bending matches. Korra is immediately drawn to Pro-bending’s dynamic fighting style.

If this post is to be believed (there's no source), then the third episode is titled "The Revelation" and the fifth is titled "The Spirit of Competition."

Also, if Korra Nation gets 100,000 likes/shares before March 24, the episode will be released online on that date. The site has a progress meter, so check up on it and like/share!

There's so much information all of a sudden.

I will be honest that I literally screamed when I saw the release date, and shed tears of joy through the trailer, both from it's epicness, and it having one of my favorite TSFH songs in it.

This. . . this is beyond amazing. Amon looks like he'll be waging psychological warfare more than physical. Korra's clashes with the airbending ways will definitely prove to be antagonistic, and the overall population of the city appears to be hostile.

I CANNOT WAIT A SINGLE MONTH FOR THIS!

Also, here's a compilation of the soundtrack:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbTvY2dC ... re=related

The main theme is just stunningly beautiful.

Oh man, this is strange. Someone got a hold of the first episode and leaked it to the internet just yesterday. Of course though I was hesitant, and when I finally went to check it out, it turns out it was already taken down. But a lot of people have already seen it and they said it was really good and that I missed out.

Man, I wish I could have seen it, even if it was only part of the show's premiere. :? Though the few remaining copies of the episode floating around the internet are in such a horrible quality that it makes it not worth it. :(

Thank you so much for telling me this.

Here's a link where you can stream the episode.

http://www.hypable.com/2012/03/18/episo ... aken-down/

EDIT: Okay, so I just watched it. My verdict: it's pretty alright. It's a solid pilot, and like most pilots, it's nothing spectacular. The show looks promising. If it matters, it's a better first episode than The Boy in the Iceberg.

I'll save you guys from any spoilers so you can watch it.

Wow, I just watched it and just. . . Wow. This looks like it's going to be amazing. I now REALLY can't wait until the 14th.

You have to take into account that this is only the first HALF of the pilot. There's much more to be revealed from this that will introduce the show. Also, Amon just looks and sounds just epic.

I know it's only one half of the premiere. However, the show is formatted into individual episodes, so I still judge it by its individual "chapters." The premiere is just two episodes, really.

It wasn't bad. I just didn't think it was phenomenal. The show definitely has potential, and I think it's going to be good. The first episode just didn't blow me away. And really, I didn't expect it to. I've never seen a show where the first episode amazed and hooked me. For me, it usually takes a few episodes for the show to establish its base and get me really interested. And, it seems to me, that it takes shows a few episodes to really get good as well.

I certainly have high hopes for The Legend of Korra.

The episode is still available to stream here. Be sure to make it full screen.

Korra Nation is really close to reaching 100,000 likes/shares. Since it says "unlocks the premiere early", do you guys think that means we get both "Welcome to Republic City" and "A Leaf in the Wind" from the early release?

Yeah I would assume so... they did say premier, so.. lol. And I'm really tempted to watch the leaked one but I'd rather leave the excitement for when it gets unlocked. Speaking of which, I wish the counter thing had numbers on it, cause we're almost there but I can't tell how many more likes/shares we need :/

@elve king: Woo, more people coming back for Korra! :)

Well, numbers or not, we made it!

In addition, AvatarSpirit.net reports that it will indeed be the first two episodes releasing this Saturday.

I'm so excited. I wasn't that excited for the leak, but for some reason, now I feel like the show's really starting. Just two days!

But fortunately, I'm so elated that I can completely ignore the pain. This weekend?! I'm punching the air in excitement, that's how happy I am!

I can't wait until the episodes are released. Then, hopefully, we can get some discussion going in this thread, just like in the old days for the first show.

Plus, on Saturday, once everyone's seen the episodes, we don't have to worry about spoiling anyone.

By the way, has anyone noticed that on Korra Nation, when you click the symbol in the middle it shakes?

Does anybody know which Nick channel TLK will be showing on? I'm trying to figure out if I'll have to watch it online or not.

Also... @Bris: Bahahahahahahaaaa!!!! I hope your toe wasn't hurt very badly, I know how annoying foot injuries can be. I still have a faint bruise from where I dropped a can opener on my foot 3 weeks ago. -_-

It will probably be on both the Nick website, and Korranation by Saturday. The Television premiere will still be on April 14th.

And don't worry about my toe. Fortunately, despite the hammer dropped actually being a sledgehammer, it was at knee height when I dropped it. My foot hurts a bit but it's nothing bad.

I think a lot of discussion is going to go on from this. Aang seemed to be quite the visionary in his adult years, and some true explanation into the origins of Republic City, the expansion of the Order of the White Lotus, and whatever happened to Ursa will be in the comics coming in May and June. That will probably hold a lot of information that will cause a lot of discussion amongst fans. And then in watching how Korra will evolve from her battles with both rampant crime and Amon. This will be one heck of an interesting development through the show.

Korra should have an interesting character arc. In a way, it's similar to Aang's, as she needs to mature and grow into her role as the Avatar to do her duty.

One thing I'm really excited for, and that I think will happen, is Korra talking to Aang in the Spirit World, like Aang did with Roku. I want to see older Aang!

Lol, yes! I want to see that to! :) Although they might try to pull the "He's in spirit form, so he can look however he wants" and make it the Aang from the show.

The new episode is up on Korranation.com! Check it out!

I'm liking how this show is going along. Korra of course is quite a dynamic character, who's flaws are more defined in the second half of the episode. Her inability to airbend is rather obvious as all the other bending styles use aggression or defense in some way, but Airbending is completely different; it is passive and requires the user to fall back and move with their opponent instead of against them, something that Korra doesn't get yet.

Pro bending looks like an awesome sport, by the way. :D While Bolin is lighthearted, he isn't really a copy of Sokka, and Mako, although brooding, isn't another Zuko. Which is good, because I don't want a repeat of the same character types.

Can't wait until the next episode. Hopefully we'll see more Amon in it.

Pro-bending does seem like an awesome sport.

I enjoyed this episode much more than the previous one. Although predictable, it had plenty of comic relief and introduced more of the main cast. Korra and Tenzin also came to a better understanding of one another.

Korra also made a significant improvement in airbending style at the end of the episode.

There's a couple of interesting things that were recently released:

Here's a character sheet that shows Aang and Katara's other two children (Kya, a Waterbender, and Bumi, a nonbender), as well as giving us Korra's parents names (Tonraq and Senna, both Waterbenders). Also interesting to note is that Lin's father is listed as "unknown." Mako and Bolin have "unknown parents" as well.

This is an image of Republic Times, a newspaper in Republic City. It doesn't really give us any new information, but it's still cool to see.

Lastly, these three cards tell us the official rules of Pro-Bending, and they are a very interesting read.

These images came from a review by Animation Insider. I haven't read the review, but I've heard it's positive, which is good. Hopefully Korra is as successful and as well received as its predecessor.

That's weird, it says that for me too. I've uploaded them to my Photobucket. Try these links. If these work, I'll edit the previous post.

Character Sheet

Republic Times

Alternatively, this page has links to all three images, which works if you go from that site. Actually, you'll have to use it to view the Pro-Bending Rules, because it wouldn't resize properly on Photobucket.

Sorry about that. That's really odd.

Cool links! Especially interesting to see all of Aang and Katara's kids.

So a new series of trailers have emerged and they're all pretty sweet:

**Potential spoiler** If you pause the 2nd video at approximately 21 seconds you will see a Makorra kiss :O Could this be the next Kataang?

That's funny, I was just coming to post these videos. Looks like you beat me to it. :)

I'm getting even more excited for this show. I can't wait for April 21st!'

I don't really think that counts as a spoiler because it was in a commercial. Based on the end of second episode, it definitely seems like Makorra is a possibility. I haven't quite seen enough of the show to decide, but if I had to decide now, based on the show and that kiss, I'd definitely pick Makorra for the canon ship. We'll have to wait and see.

Here's a new clip with an interesting caption: "Korra’s training is interrupted when her fire-bending crush Mako arrives." I thought it was pretty funny. It also gives further evidence to Makorra's being canon.

Also, right now, the first two episodes of Korra are free on iTunes!

Wow, this is my third post in a row in here. It's pretty empty in this thread.

Apparently, the version of the trailer with the Makorra kiss has been reuploaded to the Nicktoons website without the kiss. Which is weird. I don't understand why they would bother to change the trailer. All of the fans who care about shipping have already seen it.

Unless it was an April Fool's joke. It was right around April 1st.

Of course, since the kiss already exists in a trailer, as well as the "firebending crush" clip, there's quite a bit of evidence right now, in addition to the actual content of "A Leaf in the Wind."

Still, I think it may be too early to decide any ship's canon.

I still haven't watched the first two episodes *ducks to avoid projectiles*, but I will soon. After that I will decide if any of the ships are worthy of my opinion. Although I will say this, I think it would be funny for Korra to get with the firebender, since firebending is the opposite of waterbending. :)

Except, Korra's not really a waterbender at heart. She has the personality and temper of a firebender and the stubbornness of an earthbender. But since you haven't seen the episodes, I'll leave it at that. 8)

Did anybody else get a little twinge in their heart when Katara mentioned Sokka and most of her friends having already passed? :(

Yeah, that part kind of brings it home that this is an entirely new series.

On another note, there was a new clip from Korra Nation released last night, in which Korra and Mako are attacked by chi-blockers.

I wonder, when does this scene take place? And why isn't Bolin there? Maybe it's related to that clip in the one commercial where Korra says something like "We're going to save your brother."

So, after the premiere today, there was a little promo for the third episode:

It's the only decent quality one I could find, so sorry about that.

Theory: Amon knows the Energy Bending techniques of Aang, which he uses to take away benders' powers. (Plus there's a scene of him in one of the videos you posted that shows him holding a man's head in a similar way, along with him trying to grab at Korra's head a couple times)

Huh, I never thought of that. That would be really cool to have the show.

My only question is, can non-benders learn to Energy Bend? I don't see why they couldn't. Besides, before the Avatar, people used to bend the energy within themselves, so I guess there's no reason Amon couldn't do it now.

Lion Turtle in 321, "Avatar Aang" wrote:

Of course, if that's true, isn't Amon essentially a bender? Isn't he the exact thing he's trying to rebel against if he uses that power?

Hopefully we get more insight into this in Saturday's episode, "The Revelation." Especially since this is the guide summary for the episode:

Zap2It wrote:

Alright kiddies. The forces of Silverwolf and Shade demand to know how it is, that after just two episodes, they are already shipping Domkorra.

Pay tribute with your knowledge and perhaps you will be allowed to live.

Isn't Domkorra just shipping a Korra that is dominant in whichever relationship she's in?

I don't think it's an actual ship between two characters.

Yeah, there is no character that has "Dom" anywhere in the name.

The main ship amongst fans is Makorra. And that's a pretty obvious one.

It's a little early to say, but Makorra certainly seems as though it will be endgame. It was fairly obvious that Kataang was going to be canon pretty early on, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the same result here.

The only other ship that could have any substance is Borra, but I doubt that will become canon. At least it's more likely than Zutara.

Yeah, I think maybe Amon is an energy-bender, but I don't see how his little followers can't abide that and not regular benders. Doesn't make any sense. Also... Could it be possible Amon is related to Ozai (son/grandson) from after his encounter with Aang? If he is, Ozai could have puzzled out what Aang did to him, and then figured out a way to turn it on others, then taught it to Amon.

Also, given how Mako was staring at Airbender Island at the end of episode two, I would say Makorra is a safe bet. (Yeah, Korra looked to be staring at the bending arena, but I think she was actually taking in the whole city.)

@Shade: Have you seen the eps? The way Korra and Mako act around each other is evidence enough, for now anyways.

Pretty sure Amon is like Azula's little helper from the original series. she hit you in a few key spots and you fell to the ground. I cannot see the creators adding in a new kind of "energy bending". i also maybe hope that what Aang did is something reserved for Avatars only.

Makoraa is a go.

Well, we know from some of the released clips that there are more chi-blockers, so you're probably right about that. There's a very good chance Amon can do that too.

Energybending wouldn't really be new, since it was in the original show. It might be that only Avatars can do it, but I don't believe there was anything in the finale that suggested that only Avatars can have that ability.

I agree. I definitely think Makorra will be canon.

There was a new clip from Korra Nation released yesterday. Description: Korra and Mako ride Naga through the city looking for Bolin before he ends up in serious trouble.

In other news, the fourth episode is called "A Voice in the Night." The summary, from Zap2It: Korra is recruited to join Councilman Tarrlok's task force which tries to rid the city of Equalists.

It was stopping to buffer every 5 seconds, so I think I'll just wait until Saturday to watch it on the tv. :)

It actually doesn't say what episode that's from, so you may have to wait longer than Saturday to see that clip. You could always pause it and let it buffer for a little bit. The Nick Player only allows for a minute of pre-buffering, but the clip is only 1:21, so that should be adequate. The clip really isn't that revealing, so it's fine to wait.

So, earlier this morning this thread linked to a tumblr post that had a supposed list of the episode titles. It's worth noting that the tumblr post has been taken down. Here are the supposed titles, so spoiler alert if you think these count:

KrimzonStriker on AvatarSpirit.net wrote:
Chapter 1 Welcome to Republic City

Chapter 2 A Leaf in the Wind

Chapter 3 The Revelation

Chapter 4 The Voice in the Night

Chapter 5 The Spirit of the Competition

Chapter 6 And The Winner Is…

Chapter 7 Skeletons in the Closet

Chapter 8 The Will of the Firelord

Chapter 9 Tahno’s Love Triad

Chapter 10 Festival of White Lotus Bloom

Chapter 11 The Avatar’s Promised

Chapter 12 Rebirth

I believe that the titles chapters one through six have already been released in some way, so those are real. So, there's that. It may or may not be true. We'll just have to see.

End spoilers.

I can't wait to finally see another new episode on Saturday.

EDIT: This is an article on IGN about Korra, mostly the new episode. It has a link to an interview with Janet Varney, as well as an embedded clip that's supposed to be from Saturday's episode!

Post Re: AVATAR: The Legend of Korra
Well, I thought the new episode was very good. A couple of things I thought were important from the episode:

There are other gangs like the Triple Threat Triad, such as the Agni Kais.

Amon can indeed energybend (you were right, Brisineo). Now, on this topic, his energybending did not look the same as Aang's (there wasn't any glowing), so this leads me to believe it may not be the same thing. Perhaps Amon's isn't actually permanent. I'm also skeptical of his technique because I doubt the spirits gave him the power. If the spirits thought the Avatar had failed, wouldn't they have just prevented another Avatar from being born? So, my theory: Amon's "energybending" is a form a chi-blocking. Since it's chi-blocking, it could be undone. No glow, no energybending.

And, on a less important note, I feel confident in saying Makorra is a go. The scene with Jinora and Ikki, them falling asleep on each other, and Korra holding Mako's arm on the way to the Revelation are all pretty big hints. It's as obvious as Kataang.

What are your thoughts on the episode, guys?

Post Re: AVATAR: The Legend of Korra
That was an awesome episode. If anything the fighting was so smooth and seamless that it was like watching it live. And that was just the episode after the pilot. The action is only going to increase as time goes along.

I knew that the TTT wouldn't be the only gang. Interesting how the opinions and usages of bending has evolved with society. (Things that were difficult before, like lightning bending, are far more commonplace, and even are the source of electricity in the city, which is just awesome)

On Amon's abilities, let me quote the Lion Turtle:
Quote:
Before the Avatar, people bent not the elements, but the energy within ourselves.

It's actually a long forgotten technique that predates normal bending, and probably is a type of chi blocking. (used to paralyze or disable opponents) We don't know whether if the glowing coming from Ozai and Aang was a literal light, or was just being used figuratively to show what was happening between them, but it seems to be only half-way. Like Aang loosing his ability to go into the Avatar state when his chakra was blocked, Amon probably isn't taking away the bending, but instead is permanently blocking it. (It was almost scary watching the gang leader's bending slowly dissolve away)

But seriously Amon has jumped to a level of intimidation that even sends chills up my spine when I look at him. It takes a lot to do that. He fights like a Kyoshi warrior, he seems to be knowledgeable in all styles of bending so he can counter everything, (except maybe air) his voice and look is just BA, and he's apparently the savior to a cult-like following. I despise every inch of him, and I love it.

But if it's like what happened to Aang to make him lose the Avatar State, then it can't be permanent because we all know he got it back. Not on his own though, Katara had to heal him for a while and then he had to unblock the chi paths himself.

Whatever Amon does, it's not permanent. He just warps the mind of the person he's doing it to by telling them it's permanent, which they believe. Part of his menace is being able to twist a person's mind.

Can't wait to find out more about Amon as the season goes along. :) Also: his story about why he wears a mask is just a little too convenient, not sure I buy it yet.

I know that energybending is a long forgotten technique. (In fact, I used that quote myself not too long ago.) That doesn't mean that's what Amon was doing. Besides, he's not a bender, and if anyone was going to be able to do energybending, it makes the most sense for it to be someone who's already a bender. If it's been phased out and replaced with elemental bending, I doubt it would come back.

And Saphirarox makes a good point, in that the Avatar State wasn't permanently gone and it was unlocked again. Maybe it's possible that Amon is blocking chakras, or maybe it is permanent. I don't think it's gone forever, but we'll all have to wait and see.

Amon certainly is an enticing villain. I can't wait to see more of him either.

_______________________________________________________________

We know from the episode preview that Korra challenges Amon to a duel, but what does that have to do with this episode description?

"Korra is recruited to join Councilman Tarrlok's task force which tries to rid the city of Equalists."

How does an untrained Avatar dueling Amon help rid the city of Equalists? (Well, not untrained really, but unexperienced in combat.)
