Yes it was the Island is called Vroengard but it is widely considered to be part of alagaesia and so if he stays Eragon won't be fulfilling Angela's prophecy.

We wont be able to tell if the one where he lives a long time or forever will until the end of the fourth book unless he gets killed. There isn't a way he can live on the islands because they are a part of Alagaesia. I bet they travel to where the humans originally came from.
