Fedora 10 came out and I am currently updating it from Fedora 9. So my laptop is currently out of commission until it has finished downloading the new components which is rugthly 1.2GB.

Hope it works out, normally you are not suppose to update it online, but I didn't want to download a 5.4gb file which I would have needed to burn to a dvd.

Agh... I'm not a big fan of fedora... my stepdad's been trying to put it on my laptop so he can access it from the network... it has a lot of cool games, but I grew up with Windows. So i'm used to it.

Well I have been using fedora since fedora core 4, but that has not stopped me from still using windows. I just believe that I have a lot more settings to play with and it connects to my universities wireless internet out of the box . You don't have to install anything or configure some obscure settings like in windows.

Well I like both of them. They each have there ups and downs. This is why I use both of them.

See thats why he uses it. He just put fedora 9 on like last week (something like that) I was kinda freaking out because I still had msn then. Lol! And my parents can't know about that.

Well you can get pidgin on fedora, it works really well and you can be connected to more then one account at a time. It's also good because it replaces all the other chat application out there due to it's large range of support of different protocals

Ah. I think he got it so he could put download all of our movies onto our network that way we could just get rid of the actual dvds. Now he just needs to fix up all of my vhs'. I'm tired of having to hook up the big screen every time I want to watch a vhs. Lol.

My father is the complete opposite of ours. My dad wants to keep everything on dvd and if I get something he wants me to burn it on dvd, but I say no , no , no (had little music). Well for the pass 5 years I have been playing movies from my computer on the television, I just have to stream them from a hard drive attach to one of my computers or have directly on the computer. I just find it easier and more accessible.

At least we no longer have a dvd player so we have to play everything on a computer and he seems to accept this idea, but I still thinks he wants to buy a new one, even if I got my wii to play dvds.

The problem with north american televisions is that they don't work with pal videos. All of our tvs (crt), tape players and dvd player could play both pal and ntsc. But now we come here with a collection of european manufactured disks and obviously they don't work on the big television we got here. The only way to play them is on a computer or on the television we brought back.

I just want to be able to watch my vhs'... I love old disney movies. Lol! Your dad sounds like my grandpa .

You know they came up with a different system that hooks up to your wii and you can watch dvd's on it. At least thats what I heard.

ps3 can play dvd and blue ray, no attatchments required, its pretty sweet.

Well the ps3 does not play vhs

Pal is the standard which was accepted international, but has you can guess it was not accepted in north america where we had to make our own. In north america they use ntsc instead of pal.

So if you have happened to have lived outside north america for a long time you tend to built up a library of movies. Well you might have a dvd player that accepts all region dvds, but it will still not work since the tv doesn't understand pal, while our old pal tv could also understand ntsc or something like that.

I got my laptop upgraded to fedora 10. It's working great and it did not blow up on fire . Now I only need to sort out the package management. For some reason it updated all of the sources to the latest version except for the updates. If I cannot find a solution I will not be getting updates.

I guess this is for another time,I'll have to get some sleep soon
