Brisingr
It's official. The third book of the Inheritance Cycle is entitled Brisingr and has a picture of Glaedr facing right on the cover. The book itself is black. http://alagaesia.com/“BRISINGR is one of the first words I thought of for this title, and it’s always felt right to me. As the first ancient-language word that Eragon learns, it has held particular significance for his legacy as a Dragon Rider. In this new book, it will be revealed to be even more meaningful than even Eragon could have known.” -C.P. In case you didn't already know, it will be released September 20th. *someone sticky please*

I couldn't have been happier to be proven wrong. I like the new cover as well as the name for the book! (Now if only the book would come out sooner...)

Re: Brisingr
That's incredible, I was sure it was confirmed green. But that's still cool- the gold of Glaedr and black book will look great together. I'm a bit disappointed that the "E" and 6 letters theme didn't continue though lol

Whatever happened to the green cover? I thought we had confirmed long ago that it was going to be green with a green dragon facing to the right.

The 3rd book was probably going to be called the Empire and be green, but then CP found out he had to split it, and quickly made up the cover and saved Greenie for last.

Re: Brisingr
That's no surprise. Remember, Glaedr is old. Old guys have beards.

It's also embarrassing and makes you sound like a fool when you tell others. At least for me. One Positive though: The cover looks outstanding. Just as well, because it made up for the distinct laziness in not making up a fresh picture. I hope its good. Hopefully CP has realised how flawed the first two books were (especially Eldest) and decided that he would try and fix up his mistakes by having four books and making sure the story is consistant, doesn't copy the Star Wars plot flat out, and adds a bit more originality. I don't think they should do the 12:01 am release though. It's definitely not another Harry Potter.

But dragons arent supposed to have beards it makes them look undignified! Besides the book tittle isent as bad as some of the ones I have suggested to my friends. You just have to say it like you know what your saying!

What are you talking about? A neatly trimmed beard makes everyone look dignified! Besides, Brisingr isn't that bad a name if you don't get hung up on the matching thing. And it has more symbolism than Empire.

Re: Brisingr
what?
And its all a matter of opinion what you think a beard make people look like. Personally i think that a beard that is small kinda looks really dumb. No offense to any one. But i dont think that a full beard would look any better on a dragon then a neatly trimed one.

Well, probably because the title means more to eragon than just a simple spell. I don't think it is his name because he is named after a dragon rider, and that's symbolic enough. That wouldn't be much of a climax to the book-"By the way, your true name is Brisingr" How exciting.

i agree.
having the word fire as a true name would be kinda strange in the first place, and for all i know, i would think that a true name would be longer than that.

cp said "it has held particular significance for his legacy as a Dragon Rider. In this new book, it will be revealed to be even more meaningful than even Eragon could have known." also maybe there was something fishy when he was able to use magic in Daret using brisingr without knowing the word

I dont think that is his real name because it said that learning your true name broke and destroyed some people. I dont think that Brisingr as his true name would make such a big impact.

I actually think it would be a good idea for his true name to be brisingr and it would make sense.

It CAN'T be his true name as it is already the true name of 'fire'. Two different entites cannot share the same true name.

Re: Brisingr
[color=#FF0000]Aeraldi[/color] is right. It can't be Brisingr since that is the name for fire. It can be bla bla brisingr bla bla, with any amount of bla in between, but it can't be solely Brisingr. Brisingr has enough importance to not have a hidden meaning... I mean it was his first spell, dragons breath fire, Burning Plains, etc.

You are exactly right. September 20, 2008 at 12:01 a.m. in the United States. And notice that it's now Saphira's News, not Eragon News.

Re: Brisingr
I agree. I thought it was going to be another exerpt or something like that. This is just maddening. I don't even remember a god being mentioned in Eragon or Eldest. I don't remember it saying that the 1st Eragon was a god or even viewed that. I thought elves didn't have a religion so that wouldn't even work. Right?!

Re: Brisingr
first eragon and vrael were just legendary riders, not gods, so I doubt it could be them. I think it'll most likely be a dwarf god, they're practically the only ones that were mentioned.

Re: Brisingr
I have tried to keep an open mind on all the happenings with this series. You don't fool around with fans like this!!!
First, CP took forever to publish the excerpt on the new book, and of course, left us hanging. Second, he took forever to announce a publication date! Third, he splits the book in 2 parts Fourth, He has Glaedr on the cover (well, we are all assuming the Golden dragon is Glaedr) Now he talks about a deity??? The only ones who believe in deities are the dwarves. So what does this mean?
I am so ready to get on with this series!!!!

Re: Brisingr
Yeah, it's been almost 3 years since Eldest came out! In fact, when Brisingr does come out, it'll have been over 3 years!! I think that is far too long just to release a book! And all of these little updates aren't exactly helping us get through the wait

Re: Brisingr
What aggravates me the most is the fact how people were pointing fingers at JK Rowling and accusing her to be "milking the Potter series," and doing "publicity stunts" and NO ONE has pointed a finger to CP!!! JK IS RICH already she does not need the publicity or income!!! (I do not mean to bash him, so pls PEOPLE, do not JUMP ON ME!!!) I mean it has crossed my mind that HE IS milking this thing. Oh well!!! Who knows??? Only him & his publishers I guess!

no, i agree. The whole splitting it into two parts was unnecessary. one big one would have been fine. but he'll get a LOT more money this way.

*stickied* I am so sure this thing about the green cover had been published somewhere. I am almost 99.99% it was on Shurtagal. I am so sure because I can remember an argument coming up indicating the 3rd egg would hatch for Ayra seeing that her magic was green (or something around those lines) it was a way of foreshadowing the pairing. Don't get me wrong, I like Glaedr tons, but I don't want to get my hopes too high up just now!!! (I hope he mates with Saphira!!!!!)
I too am put off with the "E" title too!!! All I can deduce is that the fandom may have guessed more than what the publishers may have liked so they changed it. Whatever... I'm so disappointed... and yes, I'm sulking!!!!

Re: Brisingr
Well, it seems to me that CP always goes with the opposite of what his fans want, and what his fans expect. For example, he didn't follow the 6 letter and E theme for book 3. That's why I don't think Arya and Eragon will end up together, becuz that's everybody expects. Also, I don't think she will b the next dragon rider, it's too expected. Well, that wasn't rly about CP that much...oh well lol

Re: Brisingr
Eragon Meets a God in Brisingr
Hang on a moment...isn't that stretching the story just a little to far? I mean wouldn't the god have dethroned the evil king? Or maybe the god is controlling Galbatorix? In any case, I think its stretching the fabric of the laws of Alagaesia a bit too far. Inheritance is about to enter the realms of really out of this world.
Actually, I'm looking forward to Brisingr. But not for the thrill of the read, of adventure. I'm looking forward to Book III for a completely different reasons - to point out all the flaws. I rub my hands in anticipation. I know that this book will be full of mistakes and plot holes and the like, just by reading the spoilers.
Also, I'm peeved at Paolini for taking 3 years and more to finish Brisingr. And its only 700 pages. I mean, seriously. Robert Jordan, the author of the amazing Wheel of Time series which knocks Harry Potter off his over-spoiled backside and is only a step below Lord of the Rings, can churn out a 800, 900, 1000 page novel in a year. And the quality of his work overall is amazing. And Paolini...well, I suppose we can't really fault him. He is a novice at writing after all. Somehow, I don't think he's been working on the book very hard, else he's a slow typer.
Also, I am very annoyed that Paolini doesn't maintain better contact with his fans. (I don't consider myself one, but still).
I could ramble on forever here.

Give it a rest, critics are good to have, because then there is something to talk about. And I believe that the "god" thing does sound quite stupid.

CP always gives the worst spoilers and updates...like seriously, they're pointless. His Alagaesia Fricaya Network email was completely unrelated to the books, and the only updates he offers are the release dates. He is really getting on my nerves now. Don't get me wrong, he's an amazing author! Just lousy at pleasing his fans

If there's one thing I'm hanging out for it is the fact that I am wondering whether or not CP actually is going to come up with his own ideas in this next book. He has ripped of just about every fantasy book and somehow turned it into his own. Don't take me wrong though, I think CP is a great guy, but many people say he has commited bookwriting crime, which I think he hasn't!!! *confused face(BBCode says "Your confused face has failed") Yes, yes I know. . .

Re: Brisingr
Mr. Christopher Paolini has released another spoiler about Brisingr today which is posted on shurtugal. I'll post it here, but be warned, if you do not want to see the spoiler, do not read! I repeat, IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER!!
Ok, so CP said that in Brisingr, Eragon will encounter a terrifying new enemy. He didn't say much about the enemy, but he did say that he likes to laugh a lot, and not in a good way. Is it just me, or is that like the most boring spoiler ever? Oh well.

He should have made the new enemy someone that we know - built up the clues like Palpatine in Star Wars Episodes I, II, III. How Lucas did that is absolutely genius. All I can say is - goody, looks like I'll have a wail of a time analysing Book III.

Oh well, at least it's something slightly interesting.
PS. I think it's whale of a time.

Re: Brisingr
He's trying everything to keep people interested in his books, but with such a large gap between them its hard to have a great expectation.

Re: Brisingr
Yeah it seems like he just keeps adding these useless little "spoilers' to keep us fans interested. Unfortunately, it's not a very intriguing spoiler. In fact, it's hardly a spoiler at all! It tells you absolutely nothing about the plot. It's like saying, "In Brisingr, Eragon will use his respiratory system to breathe." It's just pointless!

Re: Brisingr
Well, a NEW enemy will....do, what? I have no idea. Whats the point--he's got freakin Galby and Murtagh, and the entire empire--he killed a shade, what else can there be? He likes to laugh alot? *sigh* I'm growing continually more disillusioned, CP. LAME SPOILER!! It wouldn't let me watch it, though. Whatever.
Yeah, Sauron, you'll have an absolute FIELD DAY with Brisingr....I'd love to see you critique CP's book to his face.

Oh, I'll have more than a field day... Heck yeah will I critique Inheritance to CP's face. All I need are the plane tickets and CP's address.

LOL!!! I hear you Siege!!! I had a hard time opening the file for the supposed SPOILER and I really should have used my time on something else. It's a spoiler that's not a spoiler!
Frankly, I think I'm losing interest in the series. I constantly ask myself if the waiting period of 3 yrs will be worthwhile. I'm not so sure anymore!

Re: Brisingr
How long was it between the first two? The years have gotten hazy... Yeah, CP definitely needs to learn how to promote his books better, that's a pretty dumb "spoiler". And is this new character just going to pop out of the ground? Because he already has quite a few villians to play with. My guess is that when he lengthened the "cycle" he needed something to advance the story, make it longer or somesuch.

Too right! I think I've lost interest aswell...Its just such a drag to have to wait on and on and on for this bloody book! My stupid countdown in Brisingr is not making it any faster either. I think I just created anarchy in peoples minds

Hey guys, don't be too hard on him. You have to take into account, the amount of time it takes, to write a book of that kind of size. Not to mention when they get writer's block, and don't forget the editing and spell-checking.

I think its just laziness on CP's part.
