Post Thoughts On The Film
I thought I would try to find out what others thought of the movie? I was really disappointed they messed up so many parts the cut out the werecat, Anya was unconcious for a while i didnt even think they were going to poison her. Brom didnt dye when he was meant to, they didnt go to Terim but still met Angela, the Shade wasnt killed by the crystal roof... i didnt see any dwalves nor were they underground. And they went onto the second book with Eargon staying as Anya left when they were arguing cause the elves wanted to continue with his training while the Varden didnt want him to..... talking about training he never learnt to read, Brom never really taught to to fight and no one really had a sense of humor.

I would have like it if i hadnt read the book but the butchered it just like in Troy Paris lived and they had a happy ending which ust so didnt happen either.

lol i just had to have a rave to ppl that would have read the books cause telling my friends doesnt work cause they didnt read them. [/i]

Post does not do justice to the book
:x My daughter and I just went to see the movie and we were very dissapointed! The movie did not portray the book properly.
Some of the acting was terrible, Angela was the worst character of all.
Her lines were retarded.
They left out all of the important things like how Eragon chose Saphira's name.
There wasn't much bonding between him and her.
It took them so long to choose Saphira's voice, but the one they finally chose was completely wrong.
The dwarves werent dwarves, but ordinary sized men.
Eraon met Murtagh before he rescued Arya, and Eragon was locked in the prison also.
And they completely skipped Eragon's training with Brom.
In the end of the book Ergon was on the ground fighting Durza and not on Saphira.
He was also stabbed in the back wich was a big thing in the second book.
They skimped on special effects and chose to spend more money on gawdy costumes for the vardens. If the movie was on a limited budget they should never have made it.
The book Eragon deserved more than the 104 min. than it was allowed.
We expected more out of the movie and the book deserved more than what the movie delivered.
We thought it would at least be three hours..... I'm glad we only spent five bucks each to see the movie.

they left out elva which is a huge thing and plus brom killed a ra zac. Roran joined the army Hoarsts sons are in the army and no solombum means no voult of soals. Garrow didnt go to town by getting carried by saphira when eragon got back. eragon didnt have scraped off skin on his legs and there was no Jeod so i dont know how they will make eldest into a movie if they ever do because why would roran come back when his in the army plus in one bit it says that hoarst sons dont write to him and its ruining ther mother meaning most likely they are dead and what about elva shes a big part of eldest its really dissapointing. i think fox should of spend more time or at least tryed to have gotten it close to the book. i wouldnt of minded if it was longer if that meant it would be better. what happened about CITY IN THE MOUNTAIN. plus no dwarfs means no dwarf kings. I think eragon should have been better. i can only wonder what cp thinks about this. and Murtagh is ment to dissagree about going to the varden not tell him he can lead them there. it dissapointing really

WORST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!

There was no depth, they ruined what Eragon was and instead made a Dragon movie, that was not Eragon. And a young kid named Christopher paolini sold the rights to his books and let a loopy producer produce a disaster, and to think, good movies get bad reviews, what do bad movies get?

People who hadn't read the book were confused and on top of that they even felt it was rushed and made no sense.

Where was the desert?

Where were the twins?

they got 10 pages right out of what, 500?

What was witht he tree thing and killing a razac?

Arya doesn't ride horses!! She can run faster then them!

Sparring field and tests?

Introduced to the vardin?

Almost drown?

City that the urgals killed all the viliage?

Brom showed he was a rider

No glove?

No bonding what so ever?

RUSHED!!!!

104 minutes? Wow!! It didn't even seem that long!!! I thought I was watching the clips!! Was there any part of the movie that we haven't seen from the clips?
I think FOX bought the rights thinking, ok, good kids book / movie, and didn't realize its potential.
I think CP sold the rights to them because being his first book, he wasn't sure if a bigger movie production company would have taken it. I'm not too sure he cares for what they did to his book!!!
Overall, it was ok, but VERY disappointing!! And as much as I would like to see a movie for each of the books, how can they make one for Eldest with as much important stuff as they left out?
I did really like Brom though!! He did the part well, even if most of his lines didn't come from the book!! I especially liked when he says something like, "Better to apologize now than to ask permission"

I've watch the movie and I'm real disappointed with it. It's nothing compared to the book. Everything in the movie is mess up! -_- Characters appear where they are not suppose to be, Brom dying in a wrong way at the wrong time. They really mess up the movie real bad. That's all I can day. It's such a disappointment. Sad.....

FOX, you have let us all down.
But.....
Saphira turned out to be pretty cool. I know a lot of people were worried about how she would turn out,. She should have been bigger with more definite fangs, but overall she turned out really good.
And the brief showing of the black dragon, well, that stole my heart!! Even though he is evil (or at least under Galbatorix's control), He was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!! When can we get a downloadable version of him? I want it!! :D :D :D :D :D

That's what I thought.... I went with a friend who hadnt read the book and she really enjoyed it mind you she didnt like Eragon's character. I think I would of liked it if i didnt realize all the things that were cut and changed.... i did expect it to be different and I was really excited to see the film... for months I was planning on seeing it as soon as possible but not only did it cut things but to change things and take away big points such as dwalves and reconizable elves and characters that really do have a impact on the story and characters. Thats what disapponted me the most they could have made the film still only that long with enough on the book... they made Goblet of Fire which was a long book but that stayed rather faithful to the book.

But if u hadnt read the book it would b really good.

My friends dont read Eragon and they find the flim bad. The only thing that's good is the actor is cute and baby Saphira is cute. They were confused at certain parts like the growth of Saphira. And they're shocked to find out that Arya is an elf when I told them cuz she dont look like one at all.

My friend has neva read eragon but she loved it.
I think it was reli gd nd i think alot of u had VERY high expectations. no movie reli shows the book if u no wat i mean. and it would be quite hard to portray the bond between dragon and rider due to the fact that none has actually eva asked a rider but think that its was shown relativly well coz it is a difficult book to put into movie form because its so different from normal life. I enjoyed it personally. and the twins were init i think becoz there have been pictures of them and the actors i think were named.

The movie was fine. It did feel like it was getting rushed. I was mad that they cutted out so many parts and characters!!! :x Okay, maybe it is the worst movie I saw that was based by a book.
The animations for Saphira was awesome, Katrina wasn't even mentioned in the movie, so was the twins, etc. Though then again, the movie was fine. :|

There was nothing there that could be really pulled from the story, the interations of the characters were all wrong.

I went in expecting that it would be different and the first 1/4th of the movie i was fine, but when it started rushing along with all open ended scenes and no as the reviws put it "plotless movie made by fox" it made it difficult for me to enjoy it when they ruined every thing that made the second book (i don't think they can make a second movie and call it Eldest)

Plus i don't know if Chris will sell the rights to Eldest after seeing this.

I mean the LOTR's had a better representation, and the count of M. had a good story to it even tho it wasn't as good as the book, The movie Eragon didn't have a plot. There were no twists. It was corny :S

Eragon Movie Releases!
Posted by Mike on December 14 @ 10:38 PM | comments - 522
The day we've all been waiting for! The highly anticipated Eragon movie has now (mostly) released world wide! If you aren't one of the brave fans who're seeing the movie at a midnight showing, make sure you get out to see it today or this weekend!

Fox gave Shur'tugal an opportunity to see the movie at the World Premiere in London, where we recently got back from. Here's our review summary:

Cuts were made, characters were left out, and some odd-jobs were hired for roles that, to the average book fan, will have you raising an eyebrow... but the major thing to keep in mind is the length of Eragon as a book, and having to turn such a long book into a movie. Though some major plot changes were made (ones that didn't need to be - such as the ending of the movie), most were excusable, understandable, and at times, necessary. Despite the plot changes, Eragon was still a captivating and impressive movie. Eragon and Brom were portrayed beautifully, and the emotion ran through this movie exactly the way it should have. The acting was up to par, and the CGI work was exceptionally stunning. I'd recommend seeing this movie to any book fan or non-book fan alike, and bring a tissue or two for that certain death scene!

You can read the first half of the "Mike Macauley's Eragon Movie Review" here. The second half will be releasing later on today.

And remember, our exclusive trip reports will also release this weekend!

The movie was okay, if you don't compare it to the book. My brother didn't read the book and he loved it, I though it was good, but it could've been ALOT better, alot of it didn't have barely anything related to the book. If you don't compare it to the movie it's okay, but if you compare it to the book it's one of the worst book based movies.

Post Eragon Film Review, and a plea for the Eldest Film Producers
I read Eragon and Eldest some time ago. I enjoyed the first two books so much, I raved about them to some of my work colleagues. The fantasy lovers among them also read and enjoyed the books.

When I was told Eragon was being made into a film, was I like a young boy again. I re-read the first book (Eragon), and eagerly awaited the release date, then pre-booked cinema tickets, just to ensure I wouldn’t be disappointed.

Within the first 5 minutes of the film, I realised I had build my expectations way too high. I was instantly disappointed and became increasingly frustrated with the production. The books were so fantastic and yet the film was OK at best, and in places painful to watch.

So many details and threads have been left out, and yet the film was only 1.5 hours in length. I know you have to keep a children’s film short, but if that means leaving out so many of the things that made the book great, then please … don’t bother making a film!!!

The film I played to myself when reading the book (my personal mind movie) was as fantastic as the book … detailed, true, flowing and totally captivating. Films should be produced by people who loved the book.

Christopher – PLEASE if it’s not too late, if you haven’t already signed the rights to the “Eldest” film, please let Warner Bros (or some other film producer that will do your trilogy justice) create a worthy visual representation.

Films are rarely as good as the book. However, apart from a few small gripes, I have never walked away from a Harry Potter film feeling let down.

I eagerly await the third book, which I will read with all the love and passion I had with the first two. I shall however reduce my expectations for the next two films … that is, if they are still to be made into films!!!

I felt it was bad even if you hadnt read the books due to its lack of character development. It seemed like it was over in a flash and did not give us any real sense of Eragons growqth or his relationships with anyone except Arya (who we all know from the books doesn't give him nearly the chance in 2 whole books that she gives him in one movie that butchered the book)

Hopefully it does so well in the theater that they make a second movie. If they do, we must demand a different director and a script that better resembles the book they claim to base the movie off of.

Maybe the only way to get true visual satisfaction now out of Eragon, is to hope one of the weekend kids shows (Smile etc) gets it animated. They wouldn’t be limited to a time constraint and all of the more complex scenes could be brought to life with relative ease. You'd still have to keep it relatively violence free though.

You know a couple of days ago i read eldest because i was being forced too by my reading teacher. I didn't even look at the book and completly ignored it for like at least 2 weeks. Then one day i got bored and made up my mind to read at least the first page and i loved it. I still haven't read eragon and i just came from watching the movie and i personally loved it. Thank god there are still people like Dragonzroc who defend the film. I mean could you all just relax and stop complaining about how much the film sucked and blah, blah, blah sure it wasn't perfect andsome things needed help but honestly me and my friends really enjoyed it.

Sorry, if i offend anybody but after all i'm just writing what i feel

Thank god there are still people like Dragonzroc who defend the film. I mean could you all just relax and stop complaining about how much the film ******** and blah, blah, blah sure it wasn't perfect andsome things needed help but honestly me and my friends really enjoyed it.

Sorry, if i offend anybody but after all i'm just writing what i feel

cheers lol :D
Eragon is just as good as Eldest!
the film is great !!

personally i think the only reason people have loved that movie is because in there minds they have never thought of a dragon magic language ran world and it was completely new to their minds. Other then that, the quality of the movie was all south.

Post My Thoughts About The Movie
I am hearing a lot of people saying that they hated the movie, and that they were very disappointed. I, on the other hand, have a different view. I mean, I do agree that they did cut out a lot of details from the book, and they shortened scenes up quite a bit, but I enjoyed the movie. I loved the beginning of the movie when Saphira was just newly hatched, it was so cute. And then when Eragon was trying to get her to fly, that was adorable. I didn't really understand why she disappeared into the clouds, and then returned as full size... that didn't really make sense. And some other things that I didn't like, was the little changes they made here and there. Like especially with Eragon's uncle. Why did they find him with bits of straw on him, and the house was not torn apart? And he wasn't just supposed to be instantly dead... What happened to Eragon digging him out of the rubble and bringing him to a healer? Something else was that they moved through the movie very quickly. And what happened to the werecat's part in the movie? I guess that the thing that actually affected my opinion on the movie was Brom. He should of been in the movie a lot longer, and he should of had a much larger part. I think that they killed him off too quickly. I was just really surprised of how little he was in the movie. But that was my only major concern. By still, even though there was many things that I think shouldn't of been changed, or altered... I still liked the movie, it just could of been better, that's all.

Some loved it … some hated it … and some thought it was merely OK.

I’m not one of these people that moan about everything … my glass is definitely half full!!!

However, what really annoys me is regardless of who thought what of the film, it could have been a great deal better.

I wanted to be WOW’D
I wanted to see all the magical things that I’d read being brought to life

If they’d have given me that, then more people would have loved it.

So, you thought it was OK or even good … it should have been magically, enticingly, phenomenal … but it was disappointingly flat, boring and totally unconvincing. Hardly a masterpiece!!!

If believers don’t criticise when faced with mush, then producers and directors will always take the easy option … the fast buck. Let’s create a version and get it out there now and start getting the money rolling in.

Producers and/or Directors – Get it right and get the glory … otherwise get lost!!!!!!!!!

Let’s see if Fox keeps the same creators for Eldest.

I just saw the movie.. it was f*ing terrible. The dialogue was cheesy and unrealistic (you cant spout 'witty' one liners whilst riding a dragon for like, the second time ever) and they missed out a huge amount of stuff, and it lacked in character development, thus giving the audience little reason to empathise.... Altho I did have higher expectations from reading the book, I can still identify things that sucked in the movie. The only good bit was the graphics (baby dragon = cutest thing ever)

Exactly.

i agree. fox totally killed eragon. but what will happen in eldest :?: are they gonna add extra bits that aren't in the books? ( like they haven't done that in eragon) and if they did make eldest how different will it be from the book :?: overall im not happy and it was very confusing, not to say the least,

i too watched the film and i was EXTREMELY DISSAPPOINTED !! i mean what was with the ending where the hell did that go ? and wasn't murtagh ment to disappear at the end and ajihad die ? and the fortune teller angela she was in the wrong place !! infact they missed out tierm all together !!! and the ra'zaac (sorry if spelt wrong) aren't they ment to have beaks and wear cloaks ? and what on earth was durza riding at the supposed battle ? infact the kulls and urgals magically appeared out of nowhere cus they missed out the desert thing ! also why wasn't arya unconcious when they saved her ? also they didn't go in depth at all with brom.. they didn't show the training or swordsmanship skills ! the acting was terrible i mean the eragon charcter was wooden and really unconvincing ! brom was to mean cranky ! many charcters weren't even mentioned and what happened to the werecat ? one thing i was really dissapointed about was that they didn't show the crystal that saphira breaks ! and how he killed durza is completely wrong i mean he wasn't ment to be riding saphira ! anyway i could go on forever but i won't cus i'm going to run the director out of town with torches and pitch forks !!!

first off i would like to point out that i loved the story in the movie but was disapointed by it, so i went and bought both the first and 2nd books, and read em both within 2 weaks. Well it's been less than 1 weak since i finished, so i have a very good memory on all of it.. Anyways to my point, first off i'd like to say, things like arya's hair color, or how saphira grew up don't matter.. For time saving they did have to cut alot out of the movie so it wasn't 8 hours long.. however here is where i think they screwed up storyline wise.. (I point out these things because i beleive that they are what make events in the 2nd and to be 3rd book crutial, and there for make it so that a 2nd and third movie will be a pain to make). First off in the deleted scenes section of the 2nd disc, they have the aperance and showing of rorans love to katrina. Second they have the showing of the twins, and third they have the blessing on the baby. All of these with some of the most rediculouse excuses from the director as to why they where taken out, on the katrina thing he said it showed eragons affection, which wasn't important.. Yea he maybe right there, but what he doesn't seem to understand how rorans love for katrina will take an enormos roll in the 2nd book. Next there was the twins scene and the baby blessing. It's the twins fault that Rajihad and Hrothgar (in a sence) where killed, plus the kidnaping and forcing of Murtagh to join forces with galby, which plays a huge roll in the battle that ensues and the steeling of Eragons sword and his finding out about his parrents.. majorly crutial there. and the child, it plays an emence roll in helping out the varden 1 save lives and 2 help them to predict things that won the battle for varden. Both of these things where very crutial and important aspects to what happens in the 2nd book. Well retarded mr director, all he has to say is he wanted to get on with the battle that was coming up and didn't want to staul it with these (as he said) "unimportant additions" :( ... 2 more things i'd like to add, 1 why didn't they add in the warecat and his sayings to eragon, which i'm sure will both play a very important roll in the 3rd book, making the difference in the battles that will ensue. Last i'd like to say what the heck was the director thinking having Arya leave before things that happen in the 2nd book ensue.. So my point is if they added in these 4 things, then took out the part with arya leaving the movie woulda been no more than maybe 10 minutes longer, but 10x better and woulda stuck to the story line alot better setting up the 2nd and 3rd books.. But as of right now i don't see how they plan to make the 2nd and 3rd movies with these major mess ups that make those story lines impossible.

i think the movie was VERY disappointing, i know they cannot play out every page in the book but come on!! If i was CP i would be very angry, i expected a few bits to be missed out but this is in NO WAY loyal to the book!! it missed out Jeod and Katrina, and what the heck was with the Ra'sac??
In all i was very disappointed and hope they will use the money raised by this movie to make Eldest much better, oh and by the way Fox Studios, you had better not miss out Eragon going to Elessmera!!! or i will not be watching the film more than once!!! (ive seen Eragon 4 times)

I think they should make extended versions, like they did with LOTR.

theres not much i can say yall pretty much said it all. it was a good movie, as movies go, but it DEFINATELY wasn't the book. the book was soo much more indepth. it was a little bit of a letdown. although it was interesting to see how other people see the characters ( the characters that they showed)

It sucks and it is out of time with itself in the movie. Hopefully if they make a second one it will be better.

not neccessarily. if they release the Eldest movie, which they will (it's a planned series and CP released the rights to do it), it will be after Book 3 comes out. then the directors and producers and writers will know which of the more important elements they need to incorporate. then, Eldest and Book 3 will not be as much of a mess as Eragon was.
also, i went to see the movie with my family. none of them had ever read the book and they managed to follow it fine. they actually enjoyed it a lot. in movie terms, Eragon was pretty darn good.

well yea i read the book, and still thought the movie was good... and you are correct saphira, i too heard that they are waiting for book 3 to release to start on eldest... but i still say they will probably start with all the main characters in eldest that weren't introduced in eragon as in the book at the beginning of the movie. Like i heard a possibility of starting with orik. that could introduce him.... then maybe show elva before her enchanment and show eragon enchanting her in eldest as well before it starts with Murtagh and ajihad leaving for the dwarven city... where it could also introduce the twins...
