Offended
Am I the only one who thinks Paolini is sexist? The sceane where Roran and Sloan where calling Katrina to come to them, basically like a dog who two people want, just plain offended me.

How is that offening? I think they were trying to figure out who Katrina loves more not to be mean. They both care about Katrina.

I dont think he meant anything by it.

If Christopher Paolini were sexist as you believe, why would he place women in positions of power? Nasuada leading the Varden, Islanzadi, Queen as leader of the Elves, Ayra as a powerfuk woman warrior... I don't see him as sexist.

Yeah, I just thought of that. He isn't sexist because of all those things annie said. I think he made katrina a little on the less power side because her father still rules over her.

Yea, besides even though sloan is a jerk, he still cares about her, and so does Roran. Most of the main characters are in fact WOMEN. Arya, Izlandi, Nasuada, Angelina, and Saphira

I may be wrong, but I do not perceive Katrina as powerless, or as a “damsel in distress” as many here refer to her. After all, she was placed in a very difficult position; she knew Sloan would not approve of her relationship with Roran, and took the steps necessary to meet with him whenever she had a chance. Even though it was not the proper thing for a lady to do, she questioned Roran on his intentions of announcing their relationship and told him he better do the thing sooner than later, because she was not willing to be an old maid waiting for him. Even though the Ra’zac instill terror to all those who they encounter, she withstood their interrogation and as Baldor said; “It would take more than those two to scare her.” Eldest 84. She stood up to Roran whom she loves more than life and demanded his promise as to not ask of her what he was not willing to do. The tough one was choosing between Sloan and Roran; (I know I would not ever want to be in that position.) and even then she chose Roran. When the Ra’zac blasted into Horst’s house, she did not give in, she fought to the end. As it is those demons can overpower the strongest yet she fought it. So this does not seem to me her being meek and listless. Maybe my perception is distorted, but I don’t think so!

Well maybe not totally without power. My bad, I was just saying that because she's always hiding and being afraid of her dad then she stands up to him.

Because Roran loves Katrina and hates Sloan. He would never be mean to Katrina.

If you think a bit on it, at that time and era, it was the custom to talk to the parents BEFORE any type of approach was made to the girl. Roran and Katrina had skipped that part way before the confrontation. So I can understand why she would be hiding in dark corners to meet with Roran.

Pretty much all these guys are right. Women were pretty much treated like dirt in A LOT of the past. CP has let up on that i think. So i deffinatlly dont think hes sexist. And the whole thing about talking to the pearents first is VERY true as well. That would be considered to be VERY VERY disrespectfull and just a bad thing to do anything with a girl before asking her father.

CP loves women. He put us im positions of power. Nasuada as the leader of Varden, Elf woman in charge of Du Weldenvarden, and Remember. Saphira is a female!

oh if you lived in Carvahall you'd see their women were not weak or powerless ... e.g Birgit, Elian, Gertrude. their opinions were well repected in the community.
i think both Roran and Sloan knew by that point that they couldn't force Katrina. she'd make her own choice though for sure that choice would break one of the hearts. that's why they stepped aside and waited for her.
