Fighting Fire with Fire

But just so you know, the main storyline involves Kit and myself. IC: Rigel rose from the sand, shaking his feathers to clear them of dust. He shook his head slowly, wondering why it was so foggy. He opened his cold yellow eyes and noticed the ashes strewn around him. Oh, I see. I've just regenerated, he realized, standing upright and examining his surroundings. His memory was slow to come back, but he was sure it would. Rigel first noticed the corpse of a dragon nearby, and a few scenes of the fight began to replay throughout his head. Why did I kill him? I must have had some reason. No matter. My memory of the reason shall return quickly enough, he thought. He knew his wounds in the battle must have been greivous enough for him to decide to regenerate, or perhaps he was forced to. It did not matter now; he was in full health. The next thing to do was assess the area for more immediate threats. Rigel opened his wings, darkly feathered in scarlet, purple, and tipped with deep blue. He flapped a few times, closing his eyes as a cloud of dust rose from the wingbeats. He angled his body and wings differently and soon found himself rising into the air. The wind rustled pleasantly through his feathers, and he relaxed as he rose above the ground and danger. He wasn't afraid of danger. He just didn't like being caught by surprise. Now, to remember what I have been doing. Something tells me it was important, he thought, his mind turning inward. There was an image he could not shake, and that was the image of a glowing, silver, circular object. Rigel wondered what it was, but could not see any more details. His only feeling about the object was that it was dangerous and must be destroyed. She had had a sudden flash back from her life before and of her family, and she was looking for the exact spot she'd seen. She wasn't sure how, but she knew it was farther South then she was now, but she need to eat. She spotted a small herd of camels, and she couldn't resist. She slammed down onto the biggest one, breaking it's neck as she landed. Rigel was patient, though. He could wait for the memories to return. The only reason he wanted some of them back was so that he'd have something to do. At the moment, the phoenix was bored. He had looked for any nearby threats, found none, and had begun flying aimlessly. He sighed. Regeneration was like this for him; waiting for the memories to return. He knew, somehow, that it could take weeks or even months for everything to come back. He also knew that he was special in that regard; somehow he could retain much more than average phoenixes. He could still not remember why, though. As he was flying, he noticed another of his kind eating the remains of a camel. Good. Perhaps I can find something to do while I wait for my memories to be restored, he thought, deciding to speak with the phoenix. Something told him to be wary of his own kind; though. He would approach with caution. Rigel sank on the winds, parachuting gently down. He got closer to the other phoenix, enough to make out what she looked like. I suppose it would be polite to extend a greeting to one of my kin. Her eyes darted around her and she spotted who spoke. It was another Pheonix, but he was dark colored, something not very common in her race. Something inside her told her to be wary of this Phoenix; she wasn't sure if it was just instincts or just a reaction to his strange color scheme. Uh, hello. I have a couple things I want to happen in this rp. Heehee. IC: Rigel lowered himself until he was at the same level as the other phoenix, a pleasant smile across his face. Encountering other phoenixes was very rare, and would hopefully bring something of interest into his brief period of remembering. I am pleased to meet you, Kaileena. It is rare to come across other phoenixes, he said. He thought he should know why it was getting harder to find other phoenixes, but he couldn't remember why. He blinked in frustration. Something was telling him to be cautious of others, very cautious, and yet he did not know why. IC: Rigel hovered nearby, his head angled a little to the side with interest. A flashback to your birthplace? How interesting. Who wouldn't want to investigate that? he said. Though he had a remarkable memory for a phoenix, he somehow realized that his memory ability had only just come a few tens of thousands of years ago. He still didn't know why, however. He thought for a moment before replying, not sure how to. Actually, I'm not entirely sure. I just regenerated, you see, and when I did, I found a dead dragon nearby. I must have been fighting him. I think my color has to do with something in my past as well, but more distantly. I don't remember what, yet, he replied, trying to delve into his memory. Why was he dark-colored? Certainly it was not a natural color. You mean you actually remember things from your past lives? I've never heard of that before, I thought that all Phoenix's lost their memories completely except for the very rare and random flashbacks. After his reply Kail remembered what else he had said. You killed a dragon? Why? How? There is no reason either of you should be dead, you can't just kill people. Kail didn't know why she was suddenly being protective of the dragon, she had fought before, with all sorts of being, even dragons. Have I revealed too much information? Hm. I shall have to wait and see, he thought, wondering if it was a good idea to elaborate on what he meant by "yet." He shook his head in a confused manner before Kaileena. Well, for some reason I feel as if I should remember more. I feel I will remember what I was doing, he answered, satisfied at the vague reply. With a reply like that, the female phoenix could assume he was simly mistaken. He frowned when she began making accusations against him for killing the dragon. Now that's unfair. Like I said, I do not remember why I fought him, but I'm positive I must have had a very good reason. I was probably fighting for my life, he replied, his voice a little irritated. Who was she to make accusations and preach to him about not killing? She had probably killed others in her past. And why, may I ask, are you defending a dragon? Their kind have not always been neutral towards ours. There were many times we were enemies, he added, his voice less annoyed and containing a little more curiosity. He paused. Why do I know that? How could I know that? Location should change anything, I've fought a few dragons before, but never around here, I never even been here. Maybe it is just this place? No, cause then they wouldn't've fought. There has got to be another reason. Feelings can be misleading, she said to Rigel. She huffed at Rigel, Then you're both at fault, she said defiantly. And all the dragons I've met in this life have been beyond kind to me, I just wish I'll be able to remember that later. And our kind start as much as they do, more I actually believe, young ones trying to prove themselves, irritate a dragon to fighting. The guess what, they end up dead, cause they don't know anything. All I'm saying is don't pick fights this life, try to work things out. I don't pick fights for no reason. I'm not a young phoenix trying to prove myself. I don't even know what exactly I was doing. But I know myself, and I know I don't attack others unless I am justified, or unless I am defending myself, he replied, wondering why he was even bothering to defend himself. To him, it seemed as if Kaileena liked picking fights for no reason, at least in the form of arguments. Rigel didn't argue with her on the point of dragons being nice. The phoenix could not simply dismiss his instinctual distrust and dislike for the creatures, and he was sure there was a reason for that as well. This phoenix did not seem to remember the wars that had been fought against dragons. Rigel's more distant, faint collection of memories had not really left his brain, and he could still re-envision the raw emotions of battle. That was not something easily forgotten. He decided on a better response than more conflict. Well, then, I guess you've had a more peaceful time of things. I cannot argue with you on this issue when we have such differing viewpoints and emotions on the subject. Apparently you dislike fighting and disapprove of my fight with a dragon, and I cannot alter your preference, he said, hoping to leave the issue to rest. Perhaps changing to a better topic will not result in such different opinions. Why are you carrying out your investigation here? he asked, a little unnerved by the tone the conversation had taken. I shouldn't be so distrustful of my own kind. So why am I? I suppose you'll be on your way than? As I'm sure you'd like to do something, and I'd like to find my birth spot? Things had become strange and disconcerting when he had decided to talk to the phoenix, and Rigel had no idea why. Good luck with your venture, then. Farewell, he said simply, angling his wings and flapping away. Before he could get more than a few hundred feet away, however, a pair of dark shapes materialized in the distant sky. Two dragons dove out of the air and straight towards Rigel, their teeth bared. Rigel's eyes widened in alarm, and he guessed that these two knew the dragon he had killed. The phoenix twisted himself to the side, and just out of the way of the diving dragons. They pulled up and turned to face him, roaring their challenge. As Rigel left she saw two shapes come into view; she recognized them as dragons. Suddenly they attacked Rigel and called their challenge. I'm glad I listen to my instincts some of the time, she said as she flew over to them. She switched to her full burning phase, she hoped that that would stop them from attacking for a few seconds since it isn't every day that something becomes fire. Once she was sure they'd hold off for alittle she switched back to her normal form. Kaileena had come to help, which surprised Rigel. Though it did make sense that she would want to know what was going on. One of the dragons hissed angrily at the fiery phoenix, his teeth bared. This monstrosity killed our friend, and if you interfere, you'll die too! he screeched, enraged. Rigel narrowed his eyes. This is your warning, dragons. Back away now, or face his fate, the dark phoenix said coldly, about to erupt into flames himself. The other dragon charged him at last, and Rigel did burst into flame. However, he was immediately surprised, as his fire was blue... and cold. The dragon passed right through his wing, and shuddered, twisting around with an incredulous look on her face. What magic is this?! What is this cold fire?! she cried. Rigel hissed as he flew at her. The dragon recovered and charged at him to. He knew that his fire form was not very useful anymore, not like this. However, Rigel felt stronger, much stronger, and not just physically. He felt as if he could do anything. And suddenly, the words came to mind. Rigel muttered under his breath, and watched in shock as his fire swirled outwards and small, hardened arrows of enchanted ice formed out of the flames. The arrows hurtled towards the dragon, piercing her wings and causing her to cry out in pain. Gender: Guy Affiliation: Dragonriders	Re: Fighting Fire with Fire Kaileena didn't care to heed the dragons warning, but Rigel's surprised her after what she had said to him before. Males just don't listen. Kaileena wasn't quick enough to stop the second dragon from attacking, but her quick eyes quickly zeroed in on Rigel. His form was wrong, horrible wrong. She never thought that he would be composed of cold, it just wasn't natural; a Phoenix was supposed to be hot. What's wrong with you, she turned on him, This is so... so... Evil. Suddenly she recalled rumors of a dark colored Phoenix with a personal vendetta to fulfill. Rigel STOP! You dragons STOP! RIGHT NOW!! She flew in between them erupting into flame again and this time putting a fire box around each, with her magic to contain them. Rigel you did something wrong apologize. And you dragons, you attacked without seeking a less violent way to solve this first; you apologize too. Evil? he said, his voice quiet. Were his powers evil? Was he evil? No, how could I be? I just regenerated, and I don't feel evil... he thought, still shocked. He jerked, surprised, when Kaileena dove between him and the dragons, her fire erupting around them in a cage. Rigel, somehow, knew he could get out. The dragons hissed and roared at the other phoenix, angry that she had stopped their fight. Why do you stop us? This phoenix is evil, can't you see that? He will kill us all and think of us as no more than flies to be crushed! the male cried. The female was inspecting the jagged holes in her wing membrane. Rigel frowned. How am I evil? I don't know why I killed your friend, and I just regenerated. The dragons nodded with narrowed, suspicious eyes, and motioned for them to follow. The same with us, phoenix. Don't even think about escape, the male hissed as he flew past. Rigel simply flew behind without another word. The flight was silent for the first five minutes. Rigel was thinking more and more about the things he remembered, and why he remembered them. He wondered, most of all, why his fire was cold and why he knew magic. He could feel the slight tingling in his mind that meant he could speak words and have his wishes carried out. As the party reached a slightly less sparse area of land, Rigel suddenly screeched and his body erupted into cold blue flames. He fell to the ground, writhing as an intense memory gripped his body. He felt the power surge into him as if it had only just happened. The glowing, silvery light hurtling towards him and hitting him, making him feel as if he was aflame, but with a fire of light rather than heat. The power raced through him, igniting his blood, and then finally subsided. He saw a brief flash of several others like him, their bodies all glowing with an ambient silver light. Rigel came to with a start, the cold fire gone and his feathers tinged in a light coat of frost, the vapor of which was already drifting away like fog. I- I just had a flashback, he realized, knowing he had discovered part of the answer for the question of how he had the powers he did. When he looked around, he saw that a large area of the ground had been burned away in a circle around him, but was now coated in frost and mist. The female flew down into a shallow cave on the side of the hill, and emerged with a larger male dragon behind. His anger was written clearly across his face. Rigel hovered, a look of cold disdain on his own visage. This is the uncle of the dragon you killed. He was his only living family, phoenix, the female dragon hissed. The older male let out a snarl. So, you killed my nephew, did you? He was always one to pick fights, but I never thought he would get killed for it, he growled, the last sentence more to himself. Rigel nodded slowly. Yes, I did. I'm sure I had my reasons, but I would like to apologize for my actions. Both of us were killed in the fight, actually, so your nephew did not lose, the phoenix replied. I wish you hadn't, so that I could kill you myself, but I'm afraid such actions would be unwise. Leave my territory before I change my mind, the older dragon spat, kicking up a cloud of dust with a forceful swipe of his tail. It was made of solid stone, like the sandstone of the desert, but the inside of this was smooth and burnt black instead of the rusty red. Phoenix's have been here before, and this is probably where I hatched, she thought. She closed her eyes and thought hard, Rigel can remember things, so it isn't impossible. I've had flashbacks, which means those memory aren't entirely lost, I just have to find them. She searched her mind, trying to find any locked or blocked doors within. She finally found one that had been opened recently, This has got to be it. Eventually Rigel's gonna remember the council of phoenixes that he was on that chose to help Zephorion and Faefnir with Phal's egg and power-transferal and such. It might be kind of interesting if Kaileena was on that council; it could add even more fuel to the "fire." lol IC: Rigel followed Kaileena, observing the area and wondering if he had ever been here before. It didn't seem too familiar, but the general area did. Perhaps he had flown over it, or passed by? It was most likely something along those lines. NO! NO! Slow down. I can't understand, she shouted into the memories. She took several steps back and fell off the column; she hit her head and blacked out. When she came it was dark. Okay, let's try and figure this out. Kail stepped back into her mind and sifted through the memories that had settled, till she found one, the oldest, that was about her family. She watched it like a moving canvas. She discovered that she had been hatched to a special order of Phoenix's that had a called purpose. They were protectors of that lands, keepers of peace. She recalled feeling these pulls different places, but her father said it was natural for her family to feel that. She told Rigel what she had found when the memory ended and she came back to the present. His mind wandered over what she had discovered, but he knew nothing more on that subject. But thinking about a group of phoenixes brought back another vague memory; one of being in a large meeting of phoenixes. There was also a dragon there, an indigo one. There was something special about the indigo one, Rigel was sure. He was... blind. But there was something more as well, something that had to do with the blindness and seeing. What could he see? Rigel thought more and more about the vague dragon, his memory of him becoming sharper. The dragon was named... Zephorion! He had a special power, but what was it? Rigel continued to delve into his memories, until finally it came to him. Zephorion could see the true names of others; their very essence. Why was the dragon at a meeting of phoenixes, though? Rigel knew he was the reason for the meeting. He had been asking for something, but what? I wonder if Zephorion is still alive? the phoenix thought. Rigel eventually realized he was ready to sleep as well, and so allowed his wakefullness to slip away. Kail was over half way through her first life when a council was called, which she had earned a place on. She couldn't remember specifics, but it had to do with an egg, a dragon egg, if she was correct. After the meeting, another took place, in which her pulling sensation was lost. What took place she couldn't remember, it was missing from the story. I don't remember that part yet, but it seems familiar, he said. Something about this was starting to feel off. It was then that he remembered some of what he had been feeling at the council. He remembered the feelings of disagreement, disapproval, anger, and even hatred; but why? Why would those feelings be mixed with that memory? Rigel was distrustful of dragons, true, but that couldn't explain the strength of the dark feelings. I wonder why it involved an unhatched dragon. Why were we talking about an egg with that dragon Zephorion? Rigel wondered aloud. Memories of Zephorion began trickling their way into the phoenix's mind, and he remembered more of the dragon's backstory. There had been something about a city, and Zephorion had defeated the evil dragon who had attacked and nearly whiped out that city. The evil dragon that Zephorion had defeated seemed oddly important, but why? Before Rigel could reach more memories, he noticed the Kaileena's feathers raise slightly in irritation. She seemed frustrated. Don't worry, if you don't remember anything more, I could. I know we shall find out more about this soon, he said encouragingly, but his mind soon went back to thinking of the evil dragon. With his name came a rush of memories, almost too fast to make sense of. Kumaraq. Rigel nearly leapt backwards, but withheld his shock. He remembered seeking out Kumaraq, talking with the dragon, gaining some sort of power from him. He had done something for the dragon, and had recieved... what? Why had he been working for an evil dragon? Rigel's thoughts became troubled. If he had worked for an evil dragon... did that make him evil? Why would he do such things? Indeed. A small level of trust is one thing, but it can go too far. I do wonder at the reason for the phoenix's attack, though. It couldn't have just been out of the blue, he replied, still thinking over his own memories. The attack, for some reason, was still familiar; and Rigel seemed to have an inkling as to the reason as well. For some reason, he guessed that Kaileena's father had been killed because the other phoenix thought he was a traitor. But who was that other phoenix? And why did Rigel know all this? Did he know that phoenix? As he tried to remember how he knew of this, other memories played back. Other phoenixes had been killed, yes, and all by the same phoenix. I think that phoenix killed many others as well. I don't remember much else. Only that this phoenix seems familiar to me. Maybe I knew him, or maybe he killed someone I knew. I'm not sure. I wish I knew where to look, at least, he replied. Somehow, he could sense he was getting closer to finding the truth. The answers seemed just under the surface of the water, and if only he could swim a little ways, he could reach them. The haze was parting, and soon Rigel felt another memory coming on. His body jerked suddenly and his muscles tightened. He froze, shaking, as another, but less violent, flashback occurred. * Rigel was at the council meeting. It was what he remembered. A feeling of hatred built up in him as he saw the dragon. Zephorion was there, and requesting something that should never have been requested. The dragon was asking for the phoenixes' help in assisting him. It wasn't any normal assistance, though. As he listened to the council members speak, Rigel only grew more and more furious that they were even considering this. Before they could get any further, he suddenly half-raised his wings and stood straight, the signal that he wished to speak. The others fell silent. How can we even be considering this? This is a dragon. If we give this dragon powers that rightfully belong to us, then who's to say she won't use them for evil?! The dragons may be plotting against us! They could use her as a weapon to defeat us all, or she could lead them! he cried. The highest-ranking elder frowned at him. But Zephorion has promised us she will not. Despite what some other dragons are like, you must admit that this one has never let us down before. His word is as good as a phoenix. And it is said she will be taught in the ways of the most noble and peaceful of her kind. In fact, it is written in the sky! You cannot deny fate, Rigel, the old one argued, his voice gruff with age. Rigel fumed. Despite education or the word of this dragon, she could still turn out evil. She could still destroy us and the world! he retorted. But Rigel, our powers will bestow into her a good heart as well as strength. Do you doubt that? Do you doubt us? the elder said calmly. Rigel realized he had been backed into a corner. Thinking quickly, he decided to relent. He had a new set of plans. No. I do not doubt us. I did not think of that, he said, his voice filled with false remorse. The elder nodded, satisfied. Then will you join us on that night? I can't quite remember what happened after our meeting, but memories are returning... he trailed off as he thought more about what happened. Where had they gone? Wait... the silver thing! It was the egg! He remembered now! Memories were pouring into his mind like a flood, almost overwhelming him. He saw that night. They had gathered in the valley, the stars shining unnaturally bright overhead. The phoenixes had gotten into a circle around the egg. There they hovered, until a great power descended into them. It was like nothing they had ever experienced before. Rigel could feel the tingling, electrical sensation even now as the memory of that intense power raced through him. He remembered building up the power, and suddenly it was released, all streaming into the egg in a great, glowing flow of starry light. I remember! That night, when we gathered around the egg. The silver egg had been hidden well by her brother, and he was unlikely to find it or get past the spells that had likely been placed on it without luck. His luck had deserted him, it seemed, for he was no closer to finding the egg or the gold dragon than he had been thousands of years ago. Of course I know where they came from. Zephorion hides somewhere to the east, but he hasn't shown himself for many millenia. I doubt he is alive any more, he would be very old. He wouldn't know where the egg was, anyway. Faefnir dwelled in the Beors, but there are many dragons there, and my attempts to search for him have not ended well. Those dragons have been warned about me, it seems. The egg was carried by Faefnir to the southwest. It is most likely in the Hadarac or the Beors somewhere, if it has not hatched yet, Rigel explained, feeling the information trivial and of the most basic nature. He stretched out his powerful wings, still feeling quite refreshed from the recent regeneration, and took off into the air. He angled his wings southwest, heading toward the distant Beors. Surely there would be some clues there. He had searched before, but new opportunities could arise, especially now that he had a second phoenix with him. Yay lol. I'm still not entirely sure what should happen next, but I have enough of an inkling for now. lol IC: Rigel was crouched behind the rock, observing the Mountain a few miles distant. Colorful shapes moved in orderly patterns around the tall cone of stone and earth. The dragons had it well-guarded. However, they themselves were unprotected. The phoenix narrowed his eyes as he tried to pick out a single bright-scaled shape. Someone they could separate and corner. The trip had been mostly silent as Rigel had brooded, though he had expressed his plan to Kaileena. Faefnir was heavily affiliated with the Dragon Mountain, the seat of power of the dragons in Alagaesia. Surely a dragon there would have knowledge of his wherabouts. If they were lucky, they'd even find direct clues to the silver egg. Their first choice would probably be to send in Kaileena to ask for information peacably. If that didn't work, they could capture a single dragon and get information by force. That was why Rigel was waiting behind the rocks. Kaileena had just departed for the mountain entrance to seek information, and he was waiting patiently for her return. He had found a place where he could escape easily, though. He was not a trusting phoenix, and if the other wanted to, she could simply alert the dragons to his presence. Then he would be chased out and back to square one. Help me! Help me! she squawked at the dragons. She crashed into a shale slope, near where a dragon was standing guard she assumed. Some dragon just tried killing me, it was awful. He just jumped, and started tearing into to me, for no reason. Kail opened her wing to show the hot blood running from it and her side. It was a ways back, he was big. I tried to stop him, to talk to him, but he didn't respond, kept attacking. I lost him in the forest, but while I was trying to talk to him, I got his name, it was Faefnir, you know of him? I was looking at some stuff before replying, and I found out this is the time when Star Gazer's parents were still running the Mountain, and her grandfather was like enemies with Faefnir, so her parents hated him too! Perfect! IC: Rigel watched as Kaileena made her entrance, and he had to admire her acting skill. It did make him a little more wary of her, though. The dragons were already flying up to her with looks of concern. The dragon at the head of the patrol listened carefully to the phoenix, wondering why she had suddenly shown up practically on their doorstep. When she finished, he turned to his companions. Faefnir? The name sounds familiar. Think we should take her to the King and Queen? the young captain asked his squad. They all gave nods of reply. He turned back to the phoenix. We will take you to our King and Queen, Night Demon and Light Witch. They will know what to do. I am Dark Talon, captain of this squad, the iron-gray told the phoenix with a nod. He motioned with his wing for her to follow them. Rigel smirked. The plan was working perfectly, and soon Kaileena could have some valuable information indeed. He watched as the dragons, headed by a deep iron-gray, led her towards an entrance of the Dragon Mountain. OOC: Yay! If the dragons knew enough about Phoenixes, they'd know she could've changed and been as good as new, she prayed they didn't. She continued her act as she followed, adding the occasional stumbling to the ground. Her feathers had gone from the more golden fire color to a red fire color, due to the blood that was caking to them. She was begining to feel light headed from the blood loss, she had cut herself to deep. Hopefully this wouldn't take too long. All Kaileena had to do was get some information, but with all the dragons there was high risk of complication. If she stayed long enough, one of the smarter ones was bound to look for information on phoenixes and discover her ruse. Hopefully that wouldn't happen. The dark phoenix settled down into his crevice, stretching out his mind and closing his eyes, falling into a sleep-like state of waiting. Dark Talon led his squad into the entrance, nodding politely at the two dragons guarding the hidden doorway. The boulder was shoved aside, and the gray headed his squad into the narrow side-tunnel. It was by no means a fancy or elaborate entrance into the seat of the dragon throne, but it was the closest one. They would have to make due with the small width of the walls. Eventually the group came to a larger tunnel, but still a side-tunnel. Dark Talon wanted to avoid running into too many other dragons, as he wasn't sure what this phoenix wanted, and for now the information needed to stay with him, his squad, and soon the leaders of the Mountain. At the entrance to the King and Queen's quarters, a party of guards surrounded his squad. Explain your business, Captain, the most burly of the dragons demanded. This phoenix has news and possibly important information regarding a certain dragon, news for the King and Queen, Dark Talon replied formally. The guard nodded. You and her pass, then, the rest stay here. The Queen's out right now, but the King's in his room. Second entrance on the left, he said, gesturing with one wing for his companions to part and reveal the entrance. Dark Talon turned to the phoenix. Follow me. The low ceiling and compressed walls prevented her from doing so. Her eyes glowed in the reduced light of the tunnels, but the King's room was lit enough that her eyes were again dull. She worried about this Dragon King. Was he as powerful as some are rumored to be, able to see into the mind, or did have several Guardian dragons to do that? Would they discover her plan? Would she be killed? Was there even a chance to escape? The dark room beyond beckoned. The young gray caught the scent of the King in his study, in the room to the left of this one. He stepped inside a little nervously, wary of the shadowy lighting and the silence. When he entered, he stepped apprehensively to the side. On the edge of the room, almost lurking on the border of shadows, was the powerful Night-Stalker dragon. Night Demon was powerfully-built, but he looked angry. Whenever Dark Talon saw him, he looked angry or annoyed. His head was pointed directly at the pair on the far side of his dim room, his eyes locking them with his fierce gaze. What business brings you here, Captain? Why is this phoenix here? Perhaps she has news of my daughter? the King rasped, stalking closer. Dark Talon shook his head. No, sir. Still nothing of the egg. But she does have information you may want to hear, and might need some help, he replied, his voice respectful and submissive. Night Demon turned to the phoenix, his angry eyes now focused on her. My name is Ka- Aneeliak, and my story is this... this big dragon, Faefnir, he attacked me a ways from here, for no reason that I could find. I barely escaped with my life. I just barely noticed the guards outside, and sort of crashed in on them. They then brought me to you when I mentioned Faefnir. I was hoping, once I recover, to snuff out his life as he did mine. Would you happen to know where he resides so I could catch him unawares. As the name "Faefnir" was uttered, the King's eyes narrowed angrily, and he glanced backwards for a moment. His shift in gaze was too rapid for Dark Talon to make out what it had rested on, though. He was already turning to reply. My father warned me of this dragon. He has caused trouble for the Mountain in the past, with his wild claims and assumptions. No doubt he has at last gone crazy. If he has attacked an innocent creature, he must be stopped, Night Demon began, his words quick and filled with contempt. Dark Talon took an almost unnoticeable step backwards, unnerved by his King's furious tone. I know only that Faefnir resides somewhere in the center of the Hadarac. If it will be more useful to keep it, or if it is something he stole, then we will take it back, the King replied with a shrug, the venomous hint still edging his voice. The iron gray still didn't know what caused his King's contempt, however. He was growing curious himself as to what Faefnir was guarding.
